Message from House of Shields

Step through the doors and be part of history. The House of Shields, one of San Francisco's oldest operating nightclubs has re-opened. The new ownership has brought back that timeless roaring 20's vibe with a full restoration reverting to its original use as a bar rather than a restaurant because of prohibition. In additon to Live Music, some of San Francisco's best underground parties are hosted here every Friday and Saturday, such as www.BreakBeatAgency.com, House of Breaks (www.spacecowboys.org, Be Here, Downtown Saturday Night and The Stylus Society. Dj's include M3, Anthony Garlic, Kappn Kirk, Mancub, Jeno, Fred Funk, 8-Ball, Joshua Iz, Oolong, Serephim and many more. Check SF Weekly for Line-Up and Special Events. The Mezzanine/dance floor overlooks the bar and is available for your Corporate Event and/or Private Party. Please contact Earl Johnson for Details.

In Short
This spot features entertainment and decor from the early 1900s: bronze art-nouveau statues, high-backed wooden booths, tall ceilings and a majestic glass-backed bar, complete with tiny shields engraved into it. Happy hour brings the suits, but at night, electronic-music aficionados cram into the small dance level overlooking the bar. In this elevated space, DJs typically mix new wave, house, funk or jazz.

Key Points

  • Original Redwood Bar
  • Happy Hour Daily 6pm-9pm
  • DJ's Every Night 9pm-2am

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - There's usually no cover, except for the occasional Saturday cabaret.
  2. Save Money - Happy hour (daily 7pm-10pm) features $2 PBRs, $4 wine and $5 well drinks.
  3. When to Go - Performers range from jazz quartets to house DJs. Call ahead for the current lineup.

1st Saturday's are great

by Jacklyn_Smith

I went to the club that is every 1st Saturday, Bass Bin BBQ. It was a chill vibe and there were at least as many women as men which always makes a party nice. The girls who throw the party are awesome. Good after hours club.

Pros: lotsa chicks, bumpin bass, after hours
