Message from I Trulli

New York's best and most attractive restaurant
  • Top Italian Dining
  • Top Italian Wine List
  • Handmade Pasta

I Trulli Enoteca e Ristorante is one of New York City's landmarks of fine Italian dining. Its wine list features more than 450 labels (all Italian with an emphasis on Southern Italian wines). Its menu celebrates the cuisine of the Marzovilla family's homeland, the region of Apulia (which forms the heel of Italy's boot). Nearly all of the pastas are handmade daily by Dora Marzovilla and the wine list is hand-selected personally by owner Nicola Marzovilla. "The garden at I Trulli is a Mediterranean dream, a gracious shaded patio with terra cotta tiles and walls daubed with abstract landscapes in soothing colors."-The New York Times "Connoisseurs will appreciate rare selections from the Puglia region, but if you don't know a Chianti from a Merlot, the soft-spoken bartenders will make spot-on recommendations given even the vaguest criteria."-New York Magazine

desserts need work  3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

Unusual appetizers, such as the superb Capesante (Pistachio-Crusted Seared Sea Scallops (hot & perfectly cooked) over Black Chickpea Salad (cold)). Excellent homemade pasta. The desserts need work. Impressive but pricey wine list, including some interesting ones by the glass.

Worst Restaurant Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!!!! 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Whatever you think Italian food should be, it will not be found here. I Trulli has become a restaurant that has outlived its time in New York. The review posted by JSirbs is accurate and fare. The food was simply bad from start to finish. If you are looking for a quality Italian meal, you will be disappointed. I think it is fair to say that I Trulli is nothing more than an OVERPRICED DINER disquised as an Italian restaurant. Do not waste your time or money like I did. Big mistake that I hope others will not follow.

"Truly," not that good 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

Pros: okay service. Cons: Food one or two notches better than a good pizza shop. Service just okay. Noisy. Cramped tables. Expensive for what you get. Conclusion: "Truly," forget it!

Bad Experience 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I'm very sad to say this but I went to I Trulli for my college graduation dinner and I did not leave pleased. I tried the restaurant out before and dined with just two people and it was lovely. When I showed up with my party of 10 a) we did not get the garden as I had requested over a month beforehand b) we had the absolutely worst service I have ever experience in NYC...and that's saying a lot. The waiter completely forgot to even write down people's meals, we sat at the table for over an hour before anyone took our order, and the staff was incredibly rude. If you do decide to go to this restaurant I recommend that you only order the pasta. The meat is horrendous--either cold or overcooked. My friend thought she was ordering a T-bone steak but it turned out to be pork chops. I won't ever be returning to I Trulli. There are plenty of other restaurants in nyc that are Truly better.

Pros: some of the homemade pastas
Cons: meat dishes, service

Best Pasta 5 Star Rating - World class

Great dinner. I was fortunate enough to experience a fabulous dinner last night. I was a bit hesitant to go out on a rainy night and then was so glad i did. Everyone was friendly and the food was great. The room was so warm and inviting, it included a beautiful fireplace. I love eating homemade pasta and this was definetly one of the best, i have had in a longtime. The wine list had a page of wine reccomendations which we chose from and that rounded the meal off perfectly. I can't wait to go back.

Pros: beautiful space, warm and inviting

Great neighborhood spot 5 Star Rating - World class

This is our favorite place in the neighborhood. The garden is amazing in the summer and cozy in the winter. great food, great service and great ambience. We'd eat here every night if we could.
