  • Great Patio Dining too!

Since opening in the Spring of 2002 Luciano's Trattoria has become one of St.Louis' favorite hot spots. Luciano's carries on the tradition of fine Italian dining started by the Del Pietro family 25 years ago. Imaginative Italian entrees, wood stove pizzas, pastas and salads make this the perfect place for a quick "bite" before the show or a leisurely four course dining experience. An impressive wine list with emphasis on the best from Italy and California compliments the menu. Private dining is available for parties of all sizes in our cafe, alcoves and separate dining room. Patio dining is relaxed by an outdoor fountain. Smoking is allowed in the bar which offers full menu service and cozy conversational seating. Located adjacent to the Ritz at the Plaza in Clayton, Luciano's is a must for out-of-towners and locals alike. Lunch M-Sat 11-3 Dinner M

Very disappointing. The waiter was arrogant and couldn't even pronounce "aioli" from the night's specials. He was aloof and very absent. We had to ask for bread plates from the bus boy, who had much better manners than any of the wait staff we encountered. We asked if a drink or two could be recommended by the bar staff using specific drink elements, and instead of sending over the bartender or coming back with suggestions for us to choose from, our waiter arrived with some sort of concoction which he said that the bartender made up "on the fly". When we asked what was is in it, he said he "wasn't sure", that he had "stopped listening after the first couple things the bartender said". He then shrugged, turned, and walked away.

??

We ordered appetizers, salad/soup, & entrees. The bruschetta appetizer was missing basil. The lump crab salad left such a bitter taste in our mouths after a couple of bites, we left it be. The chicken risotto tasted like the bottom of a shoe, putting it nicely. But the waiter's response when we hadn't eaten any was that "the saffron in the dish was probably too sophisticated of a taste for us"...what an insult! We would have stayed for dessert, but quite frankly, we couldn't stand another minute of the atmosphere.

The restaurant wasn't due to close for another hour, but yet wait staff were hanging out in the bar area being quite disruptive, talking on cell phones, changing out of their work attire and yelling things across the restaurant to one another as if everyone had already left. But yet, two tables of paying customers remained - two tables who would have gladly ordered after dinner drinks and desserts under normal circumstances, had the wait staff and environment been even close to tasteful.

I would NOT recommend this for a night out with anyone you're not already married to. It would have ruined any date, which is a shame, since we had picked it for it's romantic reputation to celebrate our anniversary.

Pros: Valet Staff very pleasant, nice patio
Cons: Arrogant and absent wait staff, food not so great

had a great business lunch today! i was the guest, so i can't comment on prices, but it seems to me my soup and sandwich = $12 or so. excellent spinach and mushroom soup, creamy and consistent, filled with chopped spinach and mushroom pieces. tuna sandwich, just right and very tasty w/ nice light sauce and real potato fries w/ the skin still on them. waitress was very pleasant college student, not too present but there when she needed to be - nice attitude and even smiled at our attempt at jokes w/ her. atmosphere superb! dining room was near full, appeared very prosperous, but not too noisy. isn't it nice to dine in clayton, the old fashioned way? i'll be back often, but of course, i only live 4 blocks away...

Pros: service, dining room atmosphere, tasty food - and not too much...
Cons: parking, but hey! it's clayton, pal...
