This was not good sushi - I travel all over the country and a great gage of a sushi rest. is the unagi and mine was undercooked. Trust me, undercooked unagi is not a pleasant experience. The miso soup had a especially gamy oyster in it. Overall if you just want atmosphere it is fine but dont come here for a sushi experience.

I love this resturant.. and I have been coming here for 6 years. I loved the staff mainly and everything was right on the money! I have also seen a lot of the stff come and go and everytime they have a turn around I always seem to manage taking a liking to another server. I am pretty forgiving when it comes to service being in the industry I know how it is when it is busy and all that. All i ask for is to get my order right in a promptly matter.. I went Friday (October 14th) to realize that non of my waitresses or waiters are there anymore. Yes, the hostess was unatttentive, she sat as all the way in the back (literally) next to the bathroom. The waiter came up and greeted us, like normal and took our order you could obviously tell he was brand new, he took our order. which consisted of our usual:spicy tuna roll: alvacado on the side my husband is allergic to it crazy maki roll: with regular seaweed paper and no vegtables Chicken lettuce wraps no bean sprouts and a buffalo roll. normally i would get the vegitarian cleveryly but they redid the happy hr menu. and it is not on there anymore. and I admit i like to change the order.. but when our food came it didnt have anything i asked for the wraps had bean sprouts the tuna had alvacado on it and the crazy had veggies in it.the tuna tasted old and i had food p0is0ning! we had our lettuce wraps we werent even done eatting yet.. i was getting impatient for my sushi when the manager asked if we were ready for our check. I looked at her. and "NO, bc we havent even had our sushi yet" she looked at me and was like.. ohh.. well he bring it out now.. after it was bought out he didnt even bring bowls for the soy sauce. That didnt bother me, even going up to the counter to get it myself didnt bother me.. what did bother me was when i went up there the manager ANDREW saw me walking up and after i asked for it myself he asked me ohh did you need anytihng. This was a bad exp. after 6 yrs. It will be a while till we go back.

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, reasonable, not traditional

Cons: Bad service, staff is nice, but not attentive, and got sick!

.

I come to this place for 2 reasons: The Cleverly Roll and Melvin the Bartender. Sure, the atmosphere is nice (you get a good mix of the hip hop crowd and buxom blondes and their dooshbag boyfriends) and the music is really fun, but the food is AMAZIN' and Melvin can make a mean drink. He's super cute and super muscular too. It's too bad that my other favorite staff members- Kelly, Karla and Angie left, because then I would have 5 reasons to hop at this joint, but 2 is good enough for me. Viva la Rickshaw!!!

This place was absolutely terrible. Our waiter's name was Fernando and he was just awful. The hostesses were unattentive and it took forever to seat us and the place was hardly packed. As soon as we entered both girls were on their cell phones completely ignoring us. When we got our food after waiting nearly 45 minutes it was cold and the wrong order. We requested to talk to the manager, Jeremia, and he was ridiculous. He did not listen to anything we said and then we saw him go straight to the hostess area and laugh at us for complaining. This guy has got to go! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!

We used to come there every Monday night. The first time, every thing was great. My boyfriend had grey goose martinis and he said it was very good. We went back there on weekend and the guy asked for $20 for valet parking. It was ridiculous. So we left, and hadn't come back there for a long time. But it was so close to our house, very convenient, and i also love Japanese food, so we tried it again on Monday. This time was good. We had seabass and we both loved it. We got special price for happy hour. Then we kept coming there every week. We also liked the waitress named Kubo, so we asked for her every time we came there. The last time we were there, the food was not as good as before. My boyfriend ordered the chicken. Instead of the chickens on their menu, he just want blank grilled chicken breast with steamed rice and gai lan (come with the entree). It was okay, nothing was special ( just frozen chicken breast). I had Rickshaw crunch. It was small and tasteless. When we got the check, we noticed that she charged $15 for the "Rickshaw chicken". It was really over priced, because we came there during happy hours. Even in regular menu, it is just 12.95 for all chicken entrees. We didn't understand what she charged us for. We asked her and she explained something that we couldn't understand, either. Then she told us she would ask her manager, but we never saw she did...We were disappointed, because we treated her very well. She made us feel that we were being tricked. Never come back.

We love Rickshaws. Its got great atmosphere for after work dining. The happy hour is fantastic. Drinks are very resonably priced and they make greta mojitos and caperninas. The appetizers are excellent and the food is average. I'm not a big sushi eater so i cant tell you about that but they have plenty of other stuff on the menu to choose from.

What a wonderful dining experience. The food was fabulous, the service excellent and the owner was on property to ensure the wonderful service we recieved.

The wine tasting dinners on Wednesday evenings are GREAT. Very professional and the chef is to be complimented.

I will never go to another sushi bar again.

(Or at least as long as Sushi master Abel stays back there.)

Great service.

Great atmosphere.

Love the music.

The bartender knows what he's doing.

Made me a Bloody Nectarine for dessert.

The menu is bliss.

Anything I can imagine.

I can even concoct something--so long as they have the ingredients.

Try it out!!

Good atmostphere, but can be chaotic and lively area, good food. Service can be a little hectic and slow. We had a party of 8 and our meals all came out at different times spanning 45 minutes, so some let their meals get cold or finished before others. Appetizers are delicious, but portions are small so not enough to share. Best value during offered happy hours. Sushi is fresh and creative, but can be a little spicy even more than expected for spicy tuna rolls. Server almost forgot to return my change in breaking a bill with the bussle in the place.

I visited Rickshaw on a Friday night with 4 friends. We started with martinis and mixed drinks that were superb. After edemamme and shrimp dumpling (delightful) we had sushi. Callies Crunch was divine as well as our hamacchi carpaccio (thinly sliched yellow tail with ponzu sauce and jalapeno) If you haven't tried this anywhere I would HIGHLY recommend it you will not be dissapointed. My mom ordered the sea bass and we all confirmed this is absolutely the best sea bass in Houston. Overall our experience was just fabulous. Service was up to par the food was excellent ambiance couldnt have been nicer. Bravo!

I went with a group of 22. We were seated quickly. At first the lunch menu seems a little short but they are big on sushi so that greatly expands the menu for sushi lovers. I ordered the snapper. The entrees come with salad, soup, and a very interesting condiment plate. As for the salad, I like mine green like most Americans, not yellow so that was a little disappointing but the light asian soup was tasty. After soup and salad they brought out the coolest condiment tray which had a dumpling, salmon bite, a spicy relish, and a awesome looking fried potato that was shaped and garnished to look just like a small pear (wowie!). The snapper was served over rice and I found that a little of the spicy relish and soy rounded it out to perfection. The combinations of ginger, fish, and light onion compliemented each other harmoniously. Looking around the group however I could see the look of shock and surprise as some others in my group got their plates. One almost choked to death on the chicken buffalo roll because it was so spicy. Two other co-workers needed a fire extinguisher after tasting it too. I couldn't asertain from them whether the hot they were experiencing was from a horseradish type hot, or a red pepper type hot. All three of them were choking too much for me to understand the answer. The pad thai looked ok, but a little "out there" and the comments on taste were mixed. I heard the beef skewers were good though. The people eating sushi had no complaints about the cuisine. Overall the atmosphere and service were great and except for the salad mine was great. However, I rated it a 3 instead of 4 or 5 because I consider Rickshaw a HIGH RISK restaurant if you are bringing friends that generally go for Chinese buffet alot, it is NOT that kind of place. I would only take my "gourmet type" friends here who aren't afraid to go out on the edge, try new things and live a little. Tune in next week for my intriguing review of the highly acclaimed, Pesce.

If you are looking for authentic, traditional sushi and sashimi, your search will certainly not end here. Instead, add Rickshaw to your already long list of over-loud, over-priced, trendy Houston sushi dives trying really hard to be hip, think MTV Sushi. If being seen in your new obnoxiously over-sized sunglasses and designer jeans matters more than eating good food than this spot is for you. Now for the food: in the miso soup was to be found spinach, carrots, and a large mussel all served in a bowl that looks like an ostrich egg cut in half at an odd angle. Not a trace of tofu or nori in that one. The assorted sashimi resembled Lego blocks whose shape and size destroyed any textural enjoyment and were completely lacking in flavor. The sushi rolls were loose and as a result difficult to handle. I myself had one piece completely fall apart during its brief journey from plate to mouth. The spicy tuna hand roll could have been certified stomach ulcer safe as it was necessary to add additional wasabi to it in order for it to qualify as even slightly spicy. As the portions were small, we had to order an additional roll, which provided us the lone bright spot for our meal. Having not been overly impressed with the meal we had selected, we decided to ask our server for her best suggestion. Her recommendation, a salmon avocado roll that wasn't even on the menu, go figure. The roll was good, but certainly nothing to have us shell out another $80. We drank 3 beers total so don't think our high bill was due to alcohol. Be warned, as for us, our search for good sushi and sashimi in Houston continues.

Pros: people watching

Cons: everything else

This place is great for the young hip crowd. I would highly recommend going early because wait times on a Friday can be long. The Vegas and Monkey roll are great. The service is prompt and courteous. Great ambiance makes this a place to hang around in after dinner. Valet is available and recommended. I have been to many sushi restaurants and this hands down is the best sushi restaurant in the Houston area.

My girlfriends and I decided to go there for Valentine's day. It was a last minute thing since our initial reservation at this place was canceled. When we got there, we thought we went to the wrong address. The place didn't look very appealing from the outside, yet once the door was opened, we all went WOW. We were seated within few minutes and to our surprise there were many single people around so we didn't feel weird.

We ordered some appetizers which were amazing. The best lettuce wraps I ever had were served there. One note though, they brought our main dish way too fast when we didn't finish our appetizers. I advice people wait to order their main dish after they are done with the appetizers.

The music was amazing and after dinner we went and sat at the lounge. Prices are not high and actually very reasonable for such a place.

I am always on the lookout for new sushi places. After hearing about Rickshaw we decided to give it a try. The service was horrible. We waited 10 minutes just to have our drink orders taken. After ordering two drinks off their new drink menu we were served two completely undrinkable concoctions. I finally settled on something off the menu and it was equally as unimpressive. The service is very slow at this restaurant. We ordered rolls and sushi. The rolls were boring and nothing to rave about. The sushi had a nasty fish smell. The place has a funky atmosphere, but it's way too loud inside. I will not return to Rickshaw. There are much better places in town for sushi.

Nice variety for everyone to find something they like. I am not a sushi fan but went with a group of people that are. I had the manderin beef which was great. The other 3 people ordered a fewe different kinds of sushi and shared. The only problem is the tables are crammed together you are almost sitting on the person behind you. The parking is horrible

I just stepped into Rickshaw lately with a friend for lunch and I must note all the changes. First of all, the management finally listened! We were pleased to find a value lunch menu in addition to all our sushi favorites. I was curious and tried the Red Curry Salmon entree while my friend stayed with sushi. It was so much food. It came with soup, salad and assorted hors d'oeuvres that the staff told me changes daily. The salmon was very tasty with the right amount of spice. I work in the Upper Kirby area so I'm very excited that there's something new and affordable (9.95 for mine) for lunch! I will be coming back to try all the other items that sounded so good.

If you are looking for a good sushi restaurant, this isn't it. If you are looking for ambiance and pretty drinks, this is the place for you! The sushi was ok, nothing spectacular. The drinks were good (we had Mohitos all night). It is pricey for what you get but if you are just going out for a night on the town, it's ok. We had good service.

The food is delicious here. My fav is the Rickshaw Crunch roll (spicy yellowtail and crunchy noodle rolled up and wrapped with avocado and tuna). The service could be better. The waitstaff could be more attentive. One time, we had a waiter that was speeding back and forth to the kitchen and kept bumping into tables. We were convinced he was on something. Overall, it's a place one should experience

I'm from Atlanta and travel a lot and I'm always looking for the best sushi (salmon especially) in every city. I stopped by Rickshaw for a takeout lunch and was extremely happy with my order. Sooo much better than Nobu and Morimoto! Tasty and creative rolls too. Only problem was the hostess...a bit rude and didn't have a clue about the menu. Each sashimi order is 6 pieces, not 2 like she told me. (They don't tell you how many pieces on the menu). When I commented that it was a bit pricey for 2 pieces, she snidely said, "Well, we're not cheap." Well, having gone to Nobu, I'm no stranger to expensive sushi. So, I was relieved when I found more than 2 pieces, which makes this place a great value for the DELICIOUS sushi they serve. If you haven't gone here, try it ASAP!

This is my absolute favorite restaurant. I have tried to find another sushi restaurant to even compare and it is impossible! This place has the most friendly staff, the best food, and a wonderful atmosphere!

I highly recommened to anyone who enjoys asian cuisine.

This is one of my top two favorite places to eat sushi in Houston. The food is orgasmic. Try the hot geisha roll. The servers know their rolls and often recommend things you should certainly try! I don't really like going too late at night because of the DJ.

Amazing sushi and lots of delicious non-sushi items available too, so everyone will find something they like. On top of the food, the music, energy and crowd are amazing. One of the best places to start your night right!

The best in houston

I went Rickshaw on Thursday for what I had heard was the best 80's night in town. The DJ was a bad motha. How exciting is it for ambiance to meet up with great drinks and awesome food. The service was fast and smart. Reccomendations inlcude the Tuna Tataki and summer rolls The miso bass is the best dish in town with a delllicious sauce. Hotties everywhere. If that wasn't enough they also had a special menu for 80's night with THE BEST SHOTS I have ever taken. I'm talking about whatchutalking about willis . It rocked. With a berry infused organic vodka and Starbucks liquor. We then tried Like a virgin shot - Godiva white chocolate mix. The Purple rain -my love for grape was finally quenched. Then we had dezzert and I'm hooked for lifewith the Chocolate Truffle that melts in your mouth

Pros: lounge, complimentary valet, everything else

Came in to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday, and I must say, they treated us like royalty here. They offered up everything from interesting liquor concoctions to intricate sushi rolls. I loved how our waitress made certain that we had our fill of all the different things. Sorry Anh, but I claim Rickshaw as MY PLACE. I'm there once a week enjoying the company of good friends in a hip, energetic atmosphere.

Pros: Sushi Bar, Music, Cocktails

.

Rickshaw has got so much to offer. Just in terms of getting my drink on, I've got choices: an extensive cocktail selection, a plethera of wines, or a vast choice of sake. I love all the options delivered to me.... drinks and food. Sushi here's great(CAJUN ROLL!!), and they've got delicious cooked stuff (MISO BASS!!) With all the options presented before me, my waiter, Fernando, made certain I didn't miss out on the best Rickshaw had to offer. The mood of the evening was phenomenal as well with a DJ playing retro music, pretty ladies swarming about the place, and restaurant workers jumping place to place excitedly. The bar's fantastic and with rights to brag! The cocktails (RASPBERRY BERET MOJITO & PINAPPLE MARTINI!!) are quite substantial and intriguing. I'll be back for more.

Pros: Drinks, Sushi, Eye Candy

I had a blast here. The bar at Rickshaw, apparently called Bambu, kept my night from being far from uneventful. From the food to the scene, everything her excited my senses. Hector and Melvin, the boys running the bar, kept things lively all night long. My friends & I were tantalized by lavishly decadent sushi... I was cravin' a spicey hit, and they plopped a Selzer Roll that sent my eyes flyin' and me callin' for another bottle of cold sake. Lively DJ spinnin', hotties everywhere, great food, phenomenal service & genuine appreciation. They talk a good game and live up to it with room to overwhelm.

Pros: the scene, the sushi, the excess

Rickshaw used to be "the place to be". It had great sushi and a great atmosphere. Well, the last two times I have been there the sushi was far from great. It was the worst spicy salmon roll I have ever eaten and the selzer roll was horrible. I will not be back.

Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks, Valet

Cons: Sushi, Sushi, Sushi

It is a small restaurant seems very trendy with overpriced entrees. Service is really bad and even in the catering area as well. Parking is not an option you have to valet. It is just an over priced Miyako.

I finally got to confirm the favorable buzz around Rickshaw this weekend. I went to a friend's birthday party and all of us had a fabulous time! They were accommodating to our big group even on a bustling Saturday night. Try the Selzer roll: our server promised that it would ignite our senses and it delivered. I had the Mandarin Beef and the beef was so tender and juicy. Delicious (and spicy) to the very last bite! For the birthday, the manager came by with a shot called the Porn Star for the entire table. This concoction is not-to-be-missed. It's liquid ambrosia! The entire restaurant experience was fantastic -- the music, the food, the service, the cocktails (GINGER APPLE MOJITO!), the ambiance. And the people-watching is prime! One regret: Not tasting the desserts. They sounded so tasty. Definitely leaves something to look forward to next time!

I went to Rickshaw several years ago and swore I would never go back. For months I have been hearing from friends that it has changed drastically. I decided to give it another chance. Some friends and I went in for lunch. Our waitress was so attentive and knowledgeable that we let her make all of the ordering decisions! From the appetizer of Tuna Tataki that she recommended to the Miso Bass we were blown away. We decided to take her advice and come back for cocktails the next evening and were wowed by the hip Thursday night crowd. Overall I have changed my mind thanks to Shelby and will go back again and again!

I am not a sushi eater, but many of my friends are. The cooked menu at this place is outstanding. How unusual to be able to get a great bottle of wine and an excellent filet while the sushi lovers are RAVEING about their selection. Although a sleeper still, the sunday brunch menu is to die for as well. The service is friendly, helpful and attentive, especially if you ask for Beau. If you have tried this place in years past, you have to give it another shot, WOW what a difference. PS the best desserts in town.

Having not been to this restaurant in over two years, I forgot what I was missing! Elegantly decorated, the atmoshpere is trendy and sharp. But it's the menu that really provides the memorable experience: Complex and flavorful Kung Pao chicken and mild wasabi mashed potatoes were a great combo! OOOH, and the delightful soft bread served with herbed-oil dipping sauce (it used to be a complementary appetizer, now on the menu $$) Still, all worth the price. I dined at 8:00 pm on a Wednesday and the place was fairly full, but we were seated and served promptly. Looking forward to returning!

Excellent Seabass and Ahi Tuna! It's fresh food, fish, and great ambiance. The Service could be improved, and the price ranks mediocre to high. Lighten up though, they have great noodle bread and it's still one of the great places to get rare tuna and seabass! Oh the Pad Thai noodles is another great dish!

I have experienced good food with poor service at Rickshaw 3 times. On my latest to Rickshaw, several things happened that will cause me to never go back. First off, one of my business colleagues was told that what he ordered "does not really go together, but whatever" by the waiter. We asked for chili sauce three times before it was delivered not by not our original waiter, who never checked on us once. After our food had not arrived 35 minutes later, the manager finally came over and asked "what do you want?". After getting halfway through repeating our tables' order, he rudely interrupted us by saying "it will be out soon". They tried to blame a backed up kitchen ,but the restaurant was only half full. The waiter thought he deserved a excellent tip for this service by adding a 20% gratuity to our bill for 5 people.
