Located across from Radio City Music Hall and within walking distance of most midtown hotels and Broadway theaters, we are a favorite lunch spot and happy hour haunt for thousands of New York City office workers and tourists needing to rest their weary legs. What's more, we feature a large 50-seat seasonal outdoor cafe that's a perfect perch to people-watch while drinking a hand-crafted ale and noshing on a salad and sandwich.

Editorial by Citysearch

The Scene
Casual, loud and generally approachable, this chain brewery is a safe bet for groups and out-of-towners. Colorful paintings and exposed brick give the space a homey charm; ample private party space is a boon for company get-togethers and birthday celebrations.

The Draw
The menu offers the usual pub assortment of nachos, quesadillas, burgers, ribs and pasta dishes. Most are fine if not particularly dazzling. The rotating list of beers is the real draw. At any given time there are five house beers to choose from, including a lager, a red ale and an oatmeal stout, as well as two or three seasonal brews.

Key Points

  • Private Parties
  • Outdoor Seating
  • Convenient to Theaters

Ratings_icons Good burgers!

Marcia E. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,037

I am always in search of a good burger so I stumbled upon this place and the burger was delicious. I didn't have the beer so I can't speak to the variety or comment on whether it is good or not but I would go back for a burger any time!

Get a great burger and soup. We stopped in here for lunch and had the best soup (on a hot day too). The soup coupled with a sandwich is a great lunch. Price is good for the NYC area.

Ratings_icons Good beer, mediocre food

Lori B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,926

When I was at this Heartland location in January, it was too crowded and the music was too loud. Now I don't mind loud music but it was the kind of loud music where you couldn't hear the music just this screechy, thumpy sound. It was meal-ruining. But the food was that good either. The kid's menu sucks. I might go back just because it was kid friendly and the beer was good.

Ratings_icons Great Food Excellent Service

Bernadette

Really want to give a special THANK YOU to the Manager Glen and our server for being so attentive and went above what you would expect. I am a Bartender and have been in the industry for close to 20 years. It is so rare anymore when people make you feel so welcome. I would recommend this restaurant and especially the one on 6th ave @ 51st St.
Thanks again,
Bernadette and Lisa from Ft. Lauderdale FL

Pros: suggested great specials and let us sample beers

Cons: Could not say one bad thing

Great sandwiches during lunch time. I haven't had dinner there but I was impressed with the lunch fare and I think its a nice upscale place to have a relaxing lunch with a buddy. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is quite good.

Ratings_icons Great food, slow service

I had a business meeting in this restaurant yesterday, after placed the order the food took a wile to came, but nothing out of the ordinary and I really liked the food, I had a burger.
Then when we were done, no signal of the waitress and we asked the guy that looked to be the manager to bring us the check, after 10 minutes one of me colleagues, called another waiter that was passing by and as soon as he stopped a woman (the person that sited us) holed him and told him to go to another desk, ignoring that we were talking to him, and also left.
After 5 more minutes waiting for the check and we stood up and went to the front to see if they can get the check for us, the woman that sited us started complaining that this was supposed to be done by the waitress that was not were to bee seeing, the guy that looked to be the manager disappeared and after a 10 minutes wait in the door they got us the check (actually they found the waitress to get us the check) my friend placed his credit card over the bill then over the table, and the woman (that sited us) when saw that started complaining that this was supposed to be done by the waitress.
We had a really bad experience with the service (almost 30 minutes to pay) but the food was good.
I believe the woman (that sited us) was not supposed to be near any client.

We were there at August 21 2007 around 13:00

Pros: Burger

Cons: Fries and Service

Ratings_icons Midtown at the oasis

Having forced my teenage daughters into several upscale eateries on a recent trip to the Big Apple I finally got it right. A stones throw from the Rock, this place had a warm feel that added to the experience. Burgers, rings, and homeade beers( including Root) were just the ticket to get away from sun- dried this and wine-reduction that. The wait- staff was efficient and courteous, bucking a recent disturbing trend in New York restaurants.

Pros: Location, value, service

Cons: Noise

Cold food, bad service. I always liked the Heartland in Union Square, but this location has a much smaller menu, terrible staff, and everything arrived at the table cold and tasteless. It is obviously geared toward tourists who will never return anyway. I recommended it to friends because it was convenient and I ended up completely embarrassed.

Ratings_icons rude waitstaff

eggsncoffee

Waited forever for service and barely got a grunt, no smile, from him. We sat in a small booth near the bathrooms (just in case he wants to know that I'm talking about HIM!). He brought the bill and dropped it on our table while he was facing another table. No thank you. Nothing. Should have left the same thing for his tip. Food was mediocre for the cost. It is convenient but so are some other "chain" restaurants.

Pros: Location, Menu choice

Cons: Rude waitstaff, Cost

Ratings_icons Booooring

moongoddess369

I've ended up here a few times because its location is easy to remember and to get to, but every time I go I remember that I didn't really like it the previous time. The food is kind of eh, not much of a selection and the service was really slow last week. There was almost no one there on a Friday night which should have been a clue.

Pros: location, easy, basic food avail

Cons: service, boring

Ratings_icons All around horrible!!

cbrault

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. The only friendly staff member was the guy at the bar. The man that was hosting promised to save a table for our party of 7, then sat a party of 2 at the very table he was saving (mean while there were boths open all around). When we were finally seated our waitress came by twice-1 for our order and 2-for our check. My turkey burger was not cooked at all, my friends salmon was completely raw. Horrible food and Horrible service. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE HEARTLAND BREWERY.

Cons: uncooked food, rude waitstaff

Ratings_icons Good midtown food...

punky21

ALWAYS full with tourists (especially because of it's close proximity to Rockefeller Center). But this place is a well-oiled machine so they know what they're doing. I"ve been here a bunch of times now and the service is always outstanding.

The food is above average for midtown and sligtly better than some of the other Heartland Breweries in the city.

This place is worth going even if only for their beer. The seasonal beers are fabulous!! Try the pumpkin ale in the fall... it's my favorite.

Pros: location, great beer, wait staff

Cons: expensive, crowded

Ratings_icons love the burgers

yukyee69

For about ten bucks, you can get a really big, juicy burger with all the fixings with an ample amount of fries. The pumpkin ale is worth trying too. A cheap, guilty pleasure.

Ratings_icons Good for a chain

jjrrww

Yes its a chain, but the service has been good on every visit, great sandwiches and salads most surprising are the excellent deserts. The Union Sq location is probably the most comfortable and most filled with locals, but Chophouse in Times Sq is a nicer dinner setting. Not bad at all.

Pros: deserts, friendly service, apricot ale

Cons: , in times sq

Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls are a must and if you are not in the mood to have one of their delicious homemade beers - their Root Beer soda is incredible - they make that too. This place has a classy feel and at the same time it's warm and comfortable. Besides the beer that is the best, they make great mix drinks too - their mixologist makes a mean apple martini!

Ratings_icons Better for happy hour than for dinner

joh103

Beers on tap were pretty good and we had a great waiter but the food left much to be desired. We all got burgers (they are huge), but like I said, much was to be desired. This place is much better just for grabbing drinks after work, the food is ho hum.

What a great place!! Great Food, Beer, staff was exceptionally helpful, especially the Manager Manny. He was awesome! Even though we had to wait to get seated, he promptly made us feel at home and got us seated fast with a friendly smile, at his packed restuarant.

Heartland Brewery is by far one of the best places in NYC to make new friends and catch up with old ones. No dress codes, no attitudes, plenty of comfort & companionship, a great place to relax in an always busy Midtown. So much more than the usual "bar food", go there to enjoy the menu while sampling one of their hand-crafted beers. Heartland Brewery is a great way to start or finish your day.

Pros: COMFORTABLE, CLEAN, LOCATION

Cons: MORE BEERS !

What a great place! Not the typical NYC gimmick theme restaurant. A cool bar with great food, and tons of excellent beer. And even with it's Pub atmosphere they were great to my kids too! Loved it!

I have been doing all of the above at the Heartland Brewery for over 5 years now and I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED! All the people that I bring there go back on their own and bring THEIR friends!
Go there once and oh yes...you will go back...you will...

Heartland is the best place in mid-town to grab a beer after work and meet the cuties that work in the building. I've eaten there on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. They offer hand crafted beers that will suit anyones tastes and are guaranteed to please. Hands down the best beer in the city.

Pros: great beer, great food

Cons: crowded bar

Ratings_icons When in Midtown...

ilovetoeatanddrink

Do what midtowners do - grab lunch, dinner or a drink at Heartland. Hoppin' afterwork or pre radio city crowd, great bar staff guarantees that you'll enjoy yourself no matter what. Try the wings, their burger when you are ready for it (big burger) and surprisingly enough for a brew pub a delicious pasta in a tomato cream sauce with crumbled italian sausage which is DELICIOUS. Karl the Bar Manager makes yummy special drinks for each season be sure to check out what's on his drink menu when you stop in. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: Pre Radio City, Karl's special drinks, Crowded

Cons: Crowded
