Cesar is the quintessential tapas bar with a nice atmosphere, small dishes and excellent drinks. Highlights of Cesar include the salt cod & potato cazuela, the fried potatoes with herbs and seat salt served with aioli and the amazing bread pudding with orange caramel sauce! The restaurant is somewhat small and gets busy on nights and weekends, with waits up to an hour. The location is great, in the heart of the gourmet ghetto and in addition to the food, the restaurant is well known for being a great place to get drinks and dessert. Prices are on the expensive side but definitely reasonable if you take the quality of the food and the atmosphere into consideration.

I have been eating at Cesar since it opened (about 10 years ago). I have NEVER had anything bad. I love the unique dishes that you can't get anywhere else. The menu changes frequently so it keeps regulars interested in coming back. I am not a drinker, but I will have a drink at Cesar, only because they are just too good. The Cesar Cookbook is wonderful, as well. It has beautiful pix along with great recipes for both food and drink. I have frequently given it as a gift to my favorite foodies. The paella is unrivaled (at least in the US). Any of the potatoes are exquisite, but our favorites are the shoestring-like potatoes with a garlic mayo ?? addictive. You must go now and try the jamon iberico bellota - it is new to the US, so get there before it disappears!! I could go on and on, but you need to just go for yourself. Oh, desserts are amazing, as well - the bread pudding is total comfort food, but at some time you must try the housemade churros with a chocolate sauce dip!

Cesar is a quintessential Berkeley night spot. The menu items are very Spanish but also very interesting and good. The complimentary olives are a much appreciated appetizer.

Their French Apple Sour is delicious as are all of their cocktails. The Cuban Sidecar is also great (who doesn't love Calvados?)

The wine menu is massive and can be a bit daunting. Their by the glass fare is usually decent. It can be a bit pricey, but I think it's worth a try. It's a nice date spot.

I remember back in 2006, my girlfriend and I had been waiting quite a long time pretty late when one of the owners (I think his name was Dennis, but I'm not positive) assured us he'd get us a seat. He did indeed and not only that, he comped out entire meal and plenty of drinks. It was fantastic!

A gregarious adult crowd packs this Gourmet Ghetto tapas bar, filling up the sand-colored room and spilling out onto the sidewalk patio. The afternoon sun that enters in through the French doors creates a sparkle on the blue mosaic…
