My co-workers and I have been in love with Divine Bar for years now. It's popular with a friendly, mature, good-looking after-work crowd on Thursdays. Hint to the guys: the chic but laid back wine bar scene keeps this place packed with girls. Weekends are a little slower but very popular for dates and the theater crowd (B'way stars included as I've seen quite a few having post-show drinks over the years). Tons of options for the beer and wine lover served by a knowledegable, friendly staff. And of course, you must try the food! Mainly Mediteranean tapas are consistently good. This place is such a gem in an otherwise touristy west Midtown.

Cons: Can be slow on the weekends if you're looking for a crowd

I discovered this place about 4 years ago and I still love it. We live 2 blocks from there and I find myself visiting every few months when we're in the mood just to sit and have some wine. The atmosphere is wanna-be trendy, but different than most of the other bars in the midtown. They have great tapas - I love the muscles, goat cheese bruschetta, and the bag-o-donuts. There is a seating area upstairs and I think it's a nice place to bring a date.

Pros: Great tapas

Cons: Limited wine selection after you've been a few times

I just happened upon this great treasure! Nancy, the manager, gave us a warm welcome 5 years ago and every time I go to NY, I go there just because of her and her excellent service and knowledge! The drinks are fabulous, the tapas are wonderful, the atmosphere is eclectic! I would highly recommend this wonderful place for everyone!

Pros: everything from the food, service and drink selections are top notch!

Cons: closed christmas day and the day after -tourists need a cool place to go

A favorite of ours for after work release. We enjoy the bar on any given day of the week. We do sit and enjoy the company of the bartender along with a great cocktail and we order a few snacks. The place is great and the prices are average.

Despite recent negative reviews, I decided to hod a surprise birthday party for my fiance at Divine Bar. Bottom line on this venue: Excellent service, extremely accomodating for holding parties/get togethers, very nice selection of wine flights, tasty appetizers, and a pleasant atmosphere. I would highly recommend checking this place out. It's a great find for midtown west.

I had my birthday party at Divine Bar last weekend. Everyone at our table ordered food and at least two $15 martinis (totally not worth it by the way). After about two hours, my friend pulled out some brownies she made and my group started to sing to me when the waiter rushed over and informed us that if we ate our brownies, we would all be charged an additional amount. We didn't make a big deal about it at the time, but looking back, it was ridiculous. After that happened, we just got the bill and took our business to a brownie-friendly establishment. Our bill was over $300 and we would have spent a lot more if not for that. I realize that you generally shouldn't bring food into an establishment but it seems like at a birthday party where the group is likely to drop close to $1000, they would let it go. I will never go back.

Pros: Creative martinis

Cons: Way overpriced, service is nothing to write home about

This place has potential, but the service is so bad, you'll leave feeling like you just ate an ashtray. We had to chase down the waitress to order drinks and food and to get the bill. And apparently, expressing any discontent with the service puts you at the whim of management who not only lost his cool, but also claimed that expressing discontent rendered you subject to their "discretionary" 18% tip policy. Making matters worse, their wine list, although seemingly interesting in that it purports to describe each wine listed, was clearly written by someone who has no idea what "oak" or "smoke" tastes like. All their wine is young and fruity - of the California $8 per bottle variety, but somehow they think the explanations warrant $13 per glass. Seriously, I would have had a better night if I'd just picked up a bottle of Two Buck Chuck and some deli salads - the food and wine would've tasted the same, but I'd have another $200 bucks in my pocket and no nightmares about hostile management picking my pocket.

Cons: Horrifying service negates any positive

This place was fantastic! I hosted a Friday night birthday party with 25 people in half of the 'lounge area' upstairs. The manager and wait staff accommodated us beautifully and set aside great space for us (couches, club chairs, tables). The food -- excellent tapas towers...lots of choices from mini lamb chops to empanadas to donut samplers -- and drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, and the ambiance was perfect! I have been to the downstairs bar before, which is better for groups of 2-6 because it is much louder and more crowded, but the upstairs area is a hidden gem for large parties.

Excellent service, great decor. Try the scallops for a tasty treat! If you love wine, it is a great place to try a few different types and learn. Also decent for the occasional celeb sighting.

Pros: Great wine.

Cons: Can get crowded, and no reservations.

Excellent wine, good atmosphere. Nice waitress, and the food was great. Would go again. The downstairs feels a little like a pick up spot...but upstairs is very different. We went to the one on the West side...

I've been to Divine Bar a few times on different days and absolutely love it! The decor and multi-level layout is awesome, the drinks are great and the menu, though not extensive is perfect for when you'd rather be spending your time enjoying good conversation versus downing a huge meal. They seem to be fairly busy on certain nights and the last time I was there, I was told that if I had arrived 5 minutes earlier there would have been an hour wait but we didn't have to wait at all, thank goodness! Take your next date or the friend you haven't seen in a while there, I promise you won't be dissappointed!!

Had a drink before going out the other weekend and really enjoyed scouring over the extensive and inventive wine list. However, wanted to sit upstairs and were not impressed that in order to sit on one side it was a two glass minimum and that the really funky lounge area was closed off for a private party.

Went here last night and had a great time. It is an excellent date place. You can chose traditional chair seating or couches for more intimate time. The food is tapas and isn't the best in the world but not overly terrible either. The real thing that you're paying for is the fun wine tasting. We ordered the French flight and it was really good. Also the whole meal was pretty cheap for New York standards. Give it a try!

I was a big fan of Divine Bar West until a friend of mine had a run in with a very nasty and uncooperative Bartender...my friend ordered a drink that was positively UNDRINKABLE---terrible tasting and the bartender REFUSED RUDELY to even consider taking it back and giving her another drink even though my friend only took one sip of the drink!!! I have lived in NYC most of my life and I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BARTENDER refuse to get someon another drink if they hated the drink they were saved....the bartender caused such a scene that a patron that was sitting next to us offered to pay for the undrinkable drink and ordered my friend another one because he felt sorry for her....

Loved the flights (pinot noir, thank you) and the helpful service. Waiter very attractive too. Order a cheese plate - they are huge with excellent and generous fruit too. Not crowded at all on a Monday night when we went, easy and relaxing. Liked the red walls and the 80s music too.

This place is awesome to go after work or for just a chill night of drinking. Lots of cute red couches and candlelit tables. There is an extensive wine list as well as wine "flights" where you can sample many different types. Also, the tapas plates are incredible- the artichoke dip is to die for! Great spot to bring a friend, a date, or a client/coworker you would like to impress

Haven't tried the original east location, but this one was pretty good in itself. We got a great table in the quieter upstairs lounge area for our large group on a Saturday night, and our waiter was attentive but not overly solicitous. The atmosphere was laid back and intimate, and us teens of the 80's loved the 80's music. Although we didn't try any of the food, the drinks were unique, fun and good (and yes, there is a full bar in addition to the wines and beers).

The hostess was rude; the service was inattentive; and our orders were incorrect. We had a group of 9 and thought this would be a fun, lively place to go. The "flight of wine" tasting is a great idea but with service like that, it's not worth it. There are plenty of other places to go.

I ate at Divine's on a Sat. night. There was a private party in half of the upstairs, which create a noisy atmosphere. I didn't mind the noise. I thought it added to the whole experience. The food was top rated with an incredible wine selection. Our waitress assisted us on some very tasty tapas selections.

How about a flight of California chardonnays to leave the day behind? This midtown tapas bar brings the wine-tasting experience to a boisterous after-work crowd. The restaurant, which holds a roomy chrome bar downstairs, sprawls over two…
