Mussels are a must (and the house specialty) at this service- centric, sophisticated Sutton Place-area neighborhood bistro that often feels like a party thanks to its explosive mix of well-dressed types in tight quarters; local fans feel it's underestimated and deserves more attention. --Zagot's Review

excellent choice for a laid back evening

by Iris W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 265

This restaurant is the ticket when you just want to kick back, relax and enjoy really, really good cuisine. Everything on the menu is very high quality. Service is always excellent and their prices are very reasonable. Nice alternative to the crowds.

Awful

by deb10022

Two of the four people in our party ordered the Angus steak. it was tough and almost inedible. The mixed salad had way too much balsamic vinegar in the dressing. After finishing a bottle of wine, we ordered two more glasses. They never came. The coconut sorbet tasted like ice cream, not sorbet, even though I was assured that it didn't have cream. I will never go back. I really don't know what people like about this place.

Cons: The steak was the worst

Alive and Kicking

by Fantastic

I must agree with pretty much all the reviews I read here. This place is GREAT
After 15 years (despite of false rumor that it was closing) Jubilee is well ALIVE & KICKING!

I had not been there in a while, but when I visited Jubilee it felt like it was yesterday. Nothing had changed.

I guess the key success of a restaurant is consistency. And Jubilee is just that.

The quality and the flavor of the food, the wine, the bartender, the music, the lighting, the atmosphere, the friendly efficent staff make you want to come back.

And now that we are in a recession - we all better make sure that what we are served is of quality. At Jubilee I am confindent to get a great meal and service for my dollar.

Take note: I tried to visit their website but found out that it was no longer Jubileeny.c o m but Jubileeny. n e t

JUBILEE.....it is just FANTASTIC!

Pros: Great value for the Dolllar

Cons: Can't think of any!!!!

Keep on Going

by Gourmande

Indeed it is a wonder when one arrives in front of Jubilee for the first time. The building does not give good credit for what is awaiting inside. But, I guess it is part of the adventure and the pleasant surprise. Jubilee is like one of those tucked-in little restaurant in Paris, where once you open the doors, you are transported into another world. It is busy, it is fun, it is happening and you want to part of it!
While you can enjoy a pleasant quiet lunch, dinner will be busy and lively. But, regardless of how busy it is the food and service remains of high standard. After 15 years in business (and I heard they just renewed their lease for another 15 years! Yeah!!!) the place is always packed with a divers fun crowd.
The staff is cordial and professional. Every time I recommend it to a friend, they fall in love, and bring more of their friends who themselves become addicted to Jubilee's food and ambience. The Mussels are a must of course. The Fish soup is one of the best in the world. The Lamb, the Steak Frites, the Stripped Bass, The Scallops, The Tuna Tartare, The Chocolat Molten Cake, The Cointreau Creme Brulee....I love it all and so it seems every table at Jubilee.
Especially in today's economy, you want to make sure you get your money's worth. Jubilee is the place for value (great food and price) and quality (great service and ambience)
Go and you will not regret it.

Pros: Best Food and Atmosphere

Cons: Landlord not keeping up with his building

Best French Bistro in NYC--for Real people

by dotsie1

BEST mussels and frites in the world. Roasted chicken to die for. Oh and the frites....French comfort food in a homey environment. Always full with neighborhood denizens of "a certain age'".Conducive to long intimates chats with good friends over well-priced good wine. Nothing hip or trendy here...great food, great and attentive service and the evocative feeling of being around a large family of cousins, aunts and uncles who are mildly quirky and who you really like to see at the holidays.

Pros: Intimate, comfortable, neighborhood in-the-know, not hip

Cons: tight quarters, not trendy if that's your thing

hidden treasure

by gurjak

I made a reservation at Jubilee after one of my friends recommended this place as one of the best restaurants in the city. But I was very dissappointed when I so the unattractive and plain exterior of the restaurant that despite the reservation that I made I didnt want to enter inside. However my husband persuaded me to give them a chance and I have to say that Jubilee was one of the best restaurant that I ever been.( and there were lots of them cause we dine out minimum twice a week).Very friendly, polite and presentable staff, nice ambience and our server very professional and attentive person-everything was just perfect.Food-mussels in curry sause so fresh, duck with beans was nice mix of different flavors and snails were delicious. Thanks to Jubilee I love french cuisine

Pros: ambience, good food and special point for great service

Cons: maybe exterior

amazingg

by izettaaa

Amazing. It has been months since I ate here but I still remember what I ate. The steak tartare was my favorite course. The beet & goat cheese salad was superb. The wines paired perfectly. Good atmosphere, background noise but a comfortable level to have conversation over. Friendly staff. Not pretentious at all.

Just TRY

by oscar23

I've eaten here off and on and every time the food has been good, if not especially memorable. However, the last time I ate here, everything was surprisingly excellent. The Steak Tartare was absolutely wonderful. The cheerful staff was very prompt and attentive. Jubilee normally isn't on my radar, but after some of the dreadful meals I've had recently, I'm happy to recommend this place.

Pros: food,staff

Always a pleasure.

by citylad

One of my favorite spots in NYC. Whether you just pop in and eat at the bar, make a reservation for that special date, or have a birthday party with friends, Jubilee can accomodate you with unpretentious style. The food is superb. Mussells to die for and french fries of perfection. You feel here like you are a very knowing New Yorker in one of the city's real jewels.

Our favorite spot

by jamieinnyc

Jubliee is a delicious French bistro with exceptional service and a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere. We live across the street and go once a week for the mussels- try the provencale and dip your bread in the sauce, yum. I usually start with the Crab Cake- it is a must-try: no fillers, 100% fresh and tasty crab meat over a delicious warm potato salad served with a meslcun salad. Profiteroles or the Apple Tart for dessert. We love Jubilee!

Pros: delicious mussles, food and great service

Cons: no delivery available

Good neighborhood choice

by 3sapphires

Not a destination eatery, good, cozy neighborhood choice. Good French bistro food, limited menu. My garlic parsley mussels were absolutely delicious, like candy. Crab cake appetizer also tasty and very fresh. Venison special, creme brulee and profiteroles good. Place was packed, and def. loud. Popular w/locals, need a reservation. Servers were quite busy but available and efficient.

Awesome Mussells!

by qtgurljny

Went there with a large dinner party. Staff was attentive and accomodating. Prices are reasonable. Wines are good and not too expensive. The standout dishes that I had were the provincial mussels and the duck confit. Both outstanding. the other variety of mussells were good but that was the best. Creme Brulee was really good too. The fish seemed to be the last favorite of all the entrees. Reservations recommended.

Outstanding

by tek1025

My wife and I went here and had a fantastic dinner. We came in as the dinner rush was starting and they seated us immediately in a cozy corner with a skylight. The server was prompt and professional. The escargot was the best I have ever had. My wife loved her Monkfish and the lamb is to die for. Desserts are a must. The wine selection is good as well.

Pros: service, selection, food

Cons: a little pricey

Wonderful food, great service

by bmb2e

Had a wonderful evening at Jubilee. Greatly enjoyed the food. The lamb is superb. Would highly recommend this place. Given the great food and service, it was surprising that they used paper mats on top of the tableclothes.

Pros: Food, Great service

Amazing French food without attitude

by Maxxx333

My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for well over two years, and we have not once been disappointed.

The food is fantastic. It is now the *ONLY* place in the city where we order Mussels (Poulette is my favorite!). Also try the Pork Tenderloin superb!

The service is just as impressive. Staff remains pretty much the same over the years, and the waiters are very knowledgeable and courteous. Do make a reservation because this place does get busy for dinner!

As far as ambience goes, Jubilee is simple but very cozy. Its certainly romantic enough, but has none of the stuffiness prevalent in some of the other French restaurants.

NOTE: check out the new 51st Street location! Similar menu, same quality, but easier to make a reservation on short notice. This place is head & shoulders above most other restaurant in the area!

Pros: Fantastic Food, Good Service, Cozy

One of NY's Best

by maniac80715

I found Jubilee using city search, and I have to say it was one of the best finds. Everything about the restaurant was perfect. The meal was absolutely incredible, and very reasonably priced. The service was very good, fast, and enthusiastic. The atmostphere was perfect for a nice, romantic evening. It has already become one of my favorite restaurants, and the tuna tartar is the best I've ever had.

Pros: The entire menu, Service, Reasonable prices

We got reservations the same day. There was no wait for the table when we arrived. The food was simply perfect. The mussels were phenomenal. One must have them as an appetizer. The service was also great. The waiter was very efficient and attentive. It's a great place for a date as the ambiance is cozy and romantic.

Pros: Excellent food

Cons: A tad pricy but worth

Love it!

by johndwyer

I've been going to Jubilee for almost 6 years now. Every time I go it is as perfect as day one. Service, food quality, comfort never varies and that's what I like so much about Jubilee. I have NEVER been let down by them. The food is amazing and I love their steak tartare macbarge.

Pros: great food, service is amazing, cozy atmosphere

Cons: sometimes crowded

no frills French !

by cyclem

Made a reservation on same day. Very nice selection of appetizers, mussels and entrees. They have 5-6 different broth for mussels. I didn't try it this time, but will probably next time. Food was great, waiter was very friendly and talkative. I highly recommend the rack of lamb for entree and the warm goat cheese salad for apetizer. The only thing: I would match most dishes on their menu with red wines, and they only have a few red under 50$, so be ready to (maybe) pay a little more than what you are used to for wine.

Pros: excellent food, good service, speak French

Cons: few wines under 50$

Great Little Bistro

by mikemerlo

Service is great, the waiters are very good for wine recommendations. Mussels are a must but the best dish is the rack of lamb, it is out of this world. Careful, though, it can make a dent in your wallet.

Pros: service, wine list, food

Cons: prices

by Juliany1939

My friend and I had dinner at jubilee, the food was excellent, very good service and the attention goes to the very charming hostess who gave us a table even though we didn't have a reservation, the place was crowded, little loud but we had a very good experience.

Pros: good price, very good food, excellent service

Cons: crowded, music can be better

It's a REAL Bistro

by babson

Sometimes you have less-attentive, non-rushed, what's-your-hurry, TRUE French bistro service! I think it's always worth the short wait to feel as if you're 1,000 miles away, cradled in a warm atmosphere with consistently excellent food. The mussels are prepared a number of different ways (try the curry!), and they will always make every effort to adjust the menu to suit your taste or dietary needs. So slow down a bit and enjoy it.

Pros: food, ambience

Cons: sometimes the service, a bit cramped
