On my first weekday visit my friend and I find a business meeting in progress right next to us,with speakers standing and shouting out instructions to the group. There were 12-15 very obnoxious loud people conducting this luncheon

Cons: no ambience and rude customers

Went with two friends who both enjoyed the Small Rijstafel -- one with spicy fried chicken, the other with braised vegetables -- but what really thrilled them was the Ginger Milk Tea. I took a sip myself and found it to be similar to a spicy, smooth chai, heavy on the ginger. They each drank two before dinner arrived.

I started with an appetizer of soybean cakes in a Javanese batter that were then fried. They were served with a spicy sweet soy sauce that was surprisingly good. But the true treasure (and, I was told after, their most popular dish), was their Bakmi Goreng Jawa. These traditional Javanese pan-fried noodles (buckwheat noodles, perhaps, and very tasty), were served up with tofu and vegetable slivers, medium spicy. For those craving more meat, they also have beef, chicken or shrimp. I found the dish incredibly filling with nice heat that didn't overpower, and a touch of sweetness that served as a nice contrast.

I will most certainly be going back again, and bringing even more friends with me next time. Next time, I might even try the fried fish in hot sauce, or the fried chicken topped with coconut.

The only drawback -- they close at 9pm M-Th, which is a bit earlier than I would like. And if you want, they even have low tables and cushions so you can sit on the floor.

I have to say that I hadn't tried Indonesian food before I tried the Indo Cafe. I liked most of the dishes, including a stir fried green, a pud thai-like dish (but different flavors). I particularly like these little "presents" of rice, meat and spices inside a leaf. Truly wrapped like a little present. I had a kind of ice cream that I didn't care for. It's apparently a Thai fruit, but tasted a bit strange.

Chances are you've only been to Northgate to frequent the two-story Target, but no more--this Indonesian restaurant provides reason enough for the trek north. The eatery looks as though it could be any nondescript Asian restaurant…
