My favorite mexican restaurant in the city. The fresh guacamole is made right at the table. It goes great with their fantastic yummy drinks. The outdoors is beautiful and feels very roomy. Service is great and so is the atmosphere.
Our waitress was very sweet and helpful.

Pros: Great drinks, outdoor seating

You have to start with the food & menu when talking at DC Soho. It's the central part of the experience and doesn't disappoint. The guacamole, made fresh to order, is an absolute must and it exceeds expectations.
The rest of the menu has high quality Mexican style food and its worth sharing amongst people at your table.
The marg's are a must and the pitchers are re-filled quickly.
The wait staff is professional & always quick to offer a tip. The hosts have to deal with too many demanding people, but if you have a reservation or if you are polite it's not an issue. I would recommend making a reservation or calling ahead.

Pros: Guac, Food, Service, Atmosphere, Drinks

Cons: Tad expensive, Big Waits (Make a Reserv)

I have come here a few times for drinks and guac but that is all I will be ordering after actually coming here on a date. The server was in his own world, the food came out half cooked and the manager had the nerve to argue about not taking it off the bill.

Don't eat here, just order a few drinks at the bar. That's it!

Before last weekend, my husband and I found ourselves here a couple of times a month and really loved the place. But our last Dos Caminos meal started off with dirty water glasses and plates (guac & salsa bits) followed by a dirty cocktail glass - salsa mimosa anyone? These things can happen and can generally be easily resolved, but our waitress made the process rather painful. My entree arrived as a 'steak' taco instead of the 'fish' tacos I ordered. Again, our waitress came by to assert that she had HEARD me order the steak tacos (I haven't eaten red meat or poultry for 17 years). At the end of the meal, we were brought coffee full of grounds and 'floating' crumbs and something the manager described as 'curdled heavy whipping cream' to lighten it with. He sent our watress over with fresh coffee and the standard creamer and she delivered it with an astringent 'Let's see how THIS works for you!' Worst of all, we were REALLY apologetic about asking for these things to be corrected and almost embarrassed that things kept going wrong with our meal. The manager seemed dismissive of the whole scenario even after being shocked by the mess our waitress brought us for 'coffee'. Does Dos Caminos really think that their customers are asking for too much by requesting clean tableware, the food that they ordered and food that is edible? These are all things we could have accepted as 'accidents' had they been resolved quickly and curteously. If you feel that the blatantly careless service and disgergard for cleanliness standards would detract from your enjoyment of the fabulous food, avoid this place.

We had the most horrendous dining experience ever. My girlfriend as I was at the restaurant on Thursday Evening around 11 PM, May 7th. We watched and videotaped on my cell phone the manager of the restaurant and staff, go out and harass a local neighborhood resident who was standing on Houston Street minding his own business, according to the police which the restaurant staff called, who was waiting for his brother to bring his extra set of apartment keys because he had been locked out.

We watched the staff, and I don't know what they were on, but they were peering through this wrought iron outdoor garden fence at him. Real paranoid behavior. The cops came. Obviously from what we could hear of the conversation, this was a 50 year resident of the neighborhood standing outside of his building waiting for a relative to bring his extra keys.

People like this come in and ruin neighborhoods. The food is terrible. This is purely tourist trash. I agree with the previous reviews. You have to be a poor consumer to waste your time here with all of the wonderful options New York City has to offer.

I had read great reviews. Obviously, they were written by the owner. The food was mundane. The service was less. They are far overpriced. I watched the couple next to me do lines of coke on the table in full view of the staff. I was there with my family. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. They have a great location if you like a mouth full of soot from the passing trucks. I wish I could get my money back. An awful experience.

I have NEVER had a worst experience than this. It was my husband's birthday. I called to make the reservation. I explained it was a birthday and I wanted my own cake brought out.I brought the cake the day before. I called to remind the hostess the day of, then faked a bathroom break when we arrived just to make sure everything was a go after we were seated outside. It started to rain and we were moved inside. The inside was dark and stuffy. The food was really bad and EXPENSIVE! The server was distracted
The server brings out a cupcake with a candle. The whole surprise was ruined and the server just ran off.
Now it just GETS REALLY BAD: this female comes over and asks what the problem is, no introduction, just attitude. she says with a snotty voice as that she is the manager, and again what the problem is. I explain calling, bringing the cake, calling again to remind, then confirming after we arrived. I explain how important this was. To this she responds, "So what do you want, the cake?" Then she storms off, brings my cake back in it's box, and the bill (over $200) , throws it on the table, and walks away without a word. No apology, no name, and the server never came back. I honestly think this woman was psychotic. My biggest regret was that we even paid the bill. When we walked out with our damaged cake in a box, everyone seemed to look away.
This whole experience surpasses bad and borders cruel.

Dos Caminos SoHo is popular mostly because of its trendy SoHo location and the abundance of celebs that frequent the restaurant. Overall the restaurant is just average. First of all, the seats are in EXTREMELY close quarters. You literally feel like you are sharing a table with the strangers next to you! I ordered mild guacamole and it was probably the best guacamole I have ever tasted. The prickly pear margarita was great too! The appetizers were a disaster. The smallest little tacos I have ever seen and they were soggy. The crab empanadas had the consistency of bodily fluids. For my entree I got the Dos Enchiladas. I LOVE enchiladas but what I had was awful! Has the chef ever tasted and enchilada before? My date got the shrimp quesadilla that would have been decent they left off that awful sauce and if the shrimp wasn't so tough. We couldn't listen to each other speak because the music was so loud and we were sitting so close to the people next to us. I couldn't believe how much our bill ended up being with such mediocre food! Save your time and don't waste your hard earned money on this dump. I take that back; order some guac, grab a margarita or two, and then go elsewhere for some real food.

If you come across two roads (dos caminos), trust me, take the other road. This is my second visit to Dos Caminos and my first time sitting in the back in the actual restaurant section. The crowd and the service were the best two things I can say about our dining experience.

We started with the guacamole and two Camino de Oro margaritas. The guacamole is good. And the margaritas were tasty as well. Unfortunately, half the chips were soggy and inedible, so we had to taste each chip and throw out the soggy ones.

We ordered four appetizers and asked that they come two followed by the other two. They all came at once and to the waiter?s credit, he took the two back and brought them later. The first starters were tuna and red snapper ceviche. The snapper ceviche was actually very nice and flavorful. The tuna ceviche tasted like semi-frozen gumdrops with ponzu sauce and excessive chiles to cover up any unpleasantness.

The final two appetizers were Ensalada Noche Buena and Asada tacos. The salad was flavorful and quite nice; however, we could only find two pieces of goat cheese in the entire salad. The same salads at the tables of others around us appeared to have generous servings of goat cheese on top leading me to believe that someone in the back may have helped himself to a quick snack. The Asada tacos were soggy and cold.

We split the Camarones en Cazuela for an entree. I rate it a five out of ten. The flavor was ok, the shrimp was tough. It was served at the proper temperature.

We split the chocolate fondue for dessert. It was actually quite nice with both the flavor and presentation making a nice ending to a disaster dinner.

What can I say? As this restaurant is part of B.R. Guest, I expected much much more. For a fine dining price, I must at least try one thing and say ?wow, that tastes really interesting.? I hate to say it, but a nice margarita and taco bell would have satisfied my Mexican craving for the evening just as well.

Went there with my boyfriend for his birthday. Showed up a bit early, we had 10:00 reservations. I had requested an outside table and the host on the phone said it's "first come first serve" (whatever that means, they should accomodate those who make reservations first in my opinion) We showed up and went to the bar. The bartender asked a server how the margarita for a table worked out to which the server replied "i don't know, f*ck it. first he wanted salt then he didnt. i dont care" (RIGHT next to us he said this) which seemed so unprofessional to say in front of guests. The host rolled around, didn't remember us, we told him we had already checked in and he was like "oh" and he waved his hand at us like ok ill get you later...We both got the guac, it was good. He got shrimp ceviche i got lobster, both lacking flavor. I got the asada tacos. 3 TINY tacos for $15, and they kind of sucked. The server hardly talked to us or seemed interested, was very shy, i didn't even know his name. (We never sat outside by the way). I guess I'm very critical because I work in high dining establishments but the service all around seemed amateur and the food was nothing to write home about. Not worth the money in my opinion.

We went to Dos Caminos Soho for my fiancee's birthday and while it was about what we were expecting -- very average food, good/strong drinks and a festive atmosphere -- I am quite certain that they tried to rip us off after the meal. We had a big group and some people paid in cash and other by credit card, yet when the bill came, they charged those 10 people paying with credit card an extra $20 or so each. I noticed it and called it to the server's attention, and he offered some half-baked explanation along the lines of, "Oh, the other guy rang it up and he must've forgot to include the cash." I didn't want to make a scene but now that I reflect on it -- a big table of young adults, all drinking, likely not paying close attention -- I'm quite certain the servers tried to put one over on us, which is obviously deplorable. This place is not worth the trouble. Once a place gets this big and profitable, they apparently could care less about their customers.

Unlike other "City Search" reviewers listed on the site, I didn't have a horrendous experience at Dos Caminos.

It was far from being the BEST Mexican food I've tasted, but the margaritas were good, the tacos spicy and the outdoor patio perfect for a lunch under the sun.

The mojito was so strong it burned my stomach, it was not even tasteful. They took it back and I had a sangria, and the sangria was just horrible. The food was ok, but I think if you're in the mood to have mexican food, you can find better mexican food else where..and better drinks. The guacamole was good but then again its so simple to make you cant go wrong with that at any other mexican place.

Went there a few weeks ago and loved it. The Guac was incredible and the Avocado Leaf Tuna was very good. The service was just right--enough attention to take care of everything we needed but not hovering over us. Even with the restaurant just about completely filled, we weren't rushed at all. Would absolutely recommend it and can't wait to go back.

I wanted to scope this place out to celebrate an upcoming birthday so I decided to try it out with my sister and niece. When we walked in to the restaurant, the hostess visually displayed her annoyance of having a three and a half year old child dining there. When seated, we ordered drinks and food. One of the drinks we ordered was a fruit juice and they served just under a half a small glass (this was not off the childrens menu) - I have never come across a restaurant that serves such a small quantity of soft drink). About 10-15 mins after the other two got their drinks, my wine arrived. The glass needed to be changed so I requested the waiter to change the glass - rather than taking away my glass away to make the switch, he just brought me another glass and left it on the table for me to pour my wine into it myself.
Our food arrived in reasonable time - the guacamole was very good and the tacos were ok - nothing to write home about. When I was presented with the check, I noticed that I was overcharged!!!! At that point I was too disappointed with the service and the disapproving looks towards my niece that I did not bother to tell them of their error so I just paid with tip and left never to return again.

This was my worst restaurant experience in my entire life. We had early dinner reservations, but we still had to wait. And then after being seated literally 2 inches from another table of guests, we were actually TOLD to move to another table! They told us to get up and move! And then they couldn't figure out where to seat us. My husband happened to have a cold and didn't feel like drinking or eating a ton, so when I ordered a drink and he didn't, they sneered at him! And then he only wanted a taco, and they went on and on about how that wasn't an entree! Terrible. We haven't gone back since.

Typical of NY restaurants, the tab will soar when you order several drinks. We rang up over $350 for 2 couples. The guacamole is everything people say -- excellent. The rest of the food was also quite good and the entree portions were not as small as I thought they'd be. We were satisfied after having the guacamole, several shared appetizers and our main dishes. The service was good, but they need more bartenders to cope with a full house. It simply took too long to bring our drink orders.

I've been here twice now. I brought my boyfriend here for his Bday and I brought my parents here for brunch. Both times the food was amazing and margaritas strong! Def get the gaucamole! Their brunch is a great deal...for $15 I got a frozen prickly pear margarita, lobster tacos and coffee! The waiter was very helpful and attentive. If your looking for a great spot for a special occasion, def come here!

Great dishes about at Dos Caminos, but the meals almost seem like a let down after the guacamole. The servers make the guac right at your table so it is amazingly fresh. You can order it from mild to extra spicy to suit your palate. I bought my own mortar and pestil to try and concoct my own after tasting theirs.

I paid 10 bucks for a margarita and over 10 for 2 finger sized, and I mean baby tacos and a cup size side of beans. They just tasted like tacos and beans- nothing special and I was starving afterwards. The margaritas were not strong or anything special either in fact those were small too. The staff was ok, but the place was overcrowded. I wont be going back to this restaurant anytime soon. This restaurant is very obviously for the pretentious.

I wasn't that into the entree, but the guacamole was to die for. They have a bar where they make the guacamole - awesome.

the margaritas and guacomole are wonderful, and are a real draw to this place, also nice ambiance, but all the entrees ive tried, the chicken, the tacos, the fish, were all just ok to good.. id come back, but may just order appetizers next time.

I've been here twice- once for a reception and once for brunch. I've heard complaints that DC is a bit overpriced but the brunch was reasonably priced and AMAZING. $11-15 gets you a brunch entree, a margarita (regular or prickly pear), champagne, bloody mary, or mimosa, and a cup of coffee or tea. The chips and salsa are great- I'm not a guac fan but those who sprung for it enjoyed. Our waiter was a little on the surly side but the rest of the FOH staff was friendly. Everyone raved over the breakfast quesadilla and the Mexican (though I'm not sure what made it Mexican) brioche french toast with berry salsita and a side of the spiced whipped cream. Yum! Mexican brunch is a great late afternoon cure for a hangover!

Wandered in around 5pm on a Saturday night with no reservation, the hostess was very friendly and gave us a table but informed us that we had to be gone by 7pm because they were booked solid. The waitress was also very good, Nice atmosphere, candles made a good ambiance. We saw the whole staff taste testing the nightly specials with the chef as he explained them. Thought that was good that they got to taste what they had to describe and serve. We had the guacamole which was fabulous! The Mahi Mahi Tacos were to die for!! We almost ordered a second helping! Will definately go back. Great ambiance, great staff, great location, great presentation and selection and most of all, everything tasted wonderful!

SOOO OVERATED!
My friends recommended this restaurant because they liked all aspects of this restaurant. Considering that this restaurant is $$$ meal price the neon pink and green sign in front of the restaurant (Dos Caminos Soho) devalues the restaurant. The ambience of the restaurant was chic and nice. The guacomole( above average) was the most flavorable food item i tried on the menu. The marinated chicken taco lacked flavor. The marinated chicken inside of the enchilada lacked flavor. The presentation of the food equated to $$$ meal price. I have tasted much more flavorable and tender marinated chicken inside a burrito and enchilada at some Mexican chicken shacks. The passion fruit margarita was overpowered by liquor and the passion fruit flavor was barely detectable. The mojito tasted good. Overall, the food was sooo overated considering the $$$meal price.

I'm a frequent patron at B. R. guest restaurants, including Dos Caminos in other locations. I have always received excellent services, until my experience at Dos Caminos Soho. I reconfirmed my reservation, but we still had to wait 50 minutes. Their signature guacamole ($12) is known to prep at your table/moveable cart, but it was prepped in the kitchen. All their dishes were good (taste wise), but you can tell it was rushed. How can you not? A table for 4 sat 5, by adding a chair to block the walkway and elsewhere too. Many waiters handed utensils and passed hot dishes to customers, because they couldn't get to the other side. Last night might have been profitable for them at customers' expenses & experiences, but they've just lost 5+ patrons, plus their friends who will hear about it.

The best guacamole I have ever tried and I think it is good for 3 people (not 2 as they suggest).
Chicken Enchilladas was awesome, chicken was well cooked.
Margherita was amazing.
Ambience was nice, candles everywhere.
It is a bit cramped though.

I come here because their margaritas on the rocks are the best! Strong and delicious. You don't even notice as you gulp them down until a few minutes later when it hits you :). The guac is the best anywhere as well. Trendy scene and wonderful location. LOOOOVE this place.

Pros: Tastiest Margaritas!, MMM guac

This place is incredibly overpriced. The food is good, but $25 for some shrimp and rice, and another $22 for pork and some tortillas is ridiculous. Not to mention $12 for a SMALL portion of guacamole. The thing that really bugged me though was that the $11 margaritas got weaker with each order! It goes without saying, that's a shady practice to keep people drinking. For a great Mexican food experience, try El Bocadito in the Lower East Side - it's cheap and the food is incredible (and authentic) -- also, the service is great there.

I had the "spicy" Guacamole (I tend to like it spicier) and it was quite good! The Skirt Steak was a very perfect medium rare as ordered. The Waiter was great about giving time to relax which is also quite nice! I want to take my Leadership team there and have to try a few of those Taquillas... 2 pages of them to choose from! WOW!
Would highly recommend to all my friends!

I really enjoyed Dos Caminos. I went with a group of 8. We had a reservation for 9:30, some of us weren't there yet, but they seated the rest of us anyway. Our waitress brought us appetizers and drinks while we waited for the rest of our party. She was really nice. She checked on the status of our guests periodically never being rude or impatient about it. The food was great. I had the Dos Enchiladas (I ate it all) and my friend ordered the Ribeye Steak Alambre- which was amazing. I really liked the rice that came with his meal. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

The ambiance was okay, the food was below average. I don't mind spending a lot of money if the food is amazing but my group was very disappointed. The hostess was rude, they need to get someone more friendly at the entrance. I have no idea how the 9.2 average rate came about.

Went with a group of girls and spent almost 2 hours waiting for a table. Once seated, service was slow... and plus we were starving. Mexican food... not so Mexican if you ask me. Food came cold, portions came lacking and overall not worth the time or money.

This place was great, we had appetizers & main dishes. everything was great (including the white sangria). but our server took a very long time - especially when we wanted the bill!! We where tempted to look like we were walking out!!! But overall, would recommend this cool place, just not that server!!

I love Mexican food. With that said, I was really looking forward to Dos Caminos this week and was a bit disappointed with the food. I don't know if it can be considered authentic-the chilean sea bass had more of an italian feel to it and judging from the rest of the menu, it seems infused with many other flavors. The food overall was good, but salty and a bit greasy. The feel of the restaurant was sleek and trendy and very very tight. I was literally a foot away from the person sitting next to me!! It was too close for comfort but if you like a trendy place with good guacamole, go to DC. Just keep in mind it is not cheap for what you get. You may leave hungry.

Read the other user reviews--most are not so positive. I have no idea how the average overall score for this place is a 9.2.. Usually there is a trade-off when you pay high prices for so-so food (i.e. atttentive service, great atmosphere, etc). Unfortunately, this is not the case with this restuarant. Expect mediocrity all around.

Simply one of the best Mexicana Catina's in the city! Bring some extra cash.,..with the good food and excellent drink menu, you might need it. Come and check out it out! The steak is to die for and they have some of the neatest decorated restuarants in the city. I think they seat outside until November...it is a nice location for outside fun.

Ate here with a friend last week and we both loved it. A little pricey, but what isn't these days? The portions were good, and the chopped salad with roasted corn, squash blossoms quesadilla, and sea bass were all heavenly. Definitely a place to eat outside. Inside was nothing to write home about, and they need more bathrooms. Great white sangria with peaches and cantaloupe. Go when the weather allows you to sit outside.

I went with a friend to celebrate my birthday. We were seated immediately. Thats where the fun came to an end. It took forever for our waitress to finally take our order, and when she did, she was rude. The $12 guacamole could have used more lime. I had the shrimp way too salty. My friend had the snapper, upon recommendations of the rude waitress, which was bland and did not look appetizing. I did not want to leave a tip that was how dissatisfied I was. I have NEVER wanted to that. Trust me spend your time and money elsewhere.

Recently went on a friend's recommendation and was quickly disappointed. We had a reservation for 3 and 2 os us arrived a few minutes early and requested to be seated to which the hostess responded all 3 of you need to be here so we can seat you. The table on the "patio" was near the bus station and we had to dust off the soot and debris from our plates and silverware. The server was not very friendly and seemed very pressured to put our order into the kitchen very shortlyl after we were seated. If you are looking to hang around with friends - this is not the place. Considering the prices you would think the service would be on par. Definitely will not return.

Wow! I went to Dos Caminos with a few coworkers for lunch. It was amazing! Great GUACAMOLE, fun drinks, excellent main courses. And to top things off - our waiter was such a doll! He looked so overwhelmed - (and trust me - he was!). There was a HUGE group of people in the restaurant, and unfortunately they were understaffed. Nonetheless, our waiter gave us prompt service and a smile every time he came over to take an order, bring us drinks, or check up on how we were doing. He was literally running around the entire time! Most people in his situation would just act rude and crabby - but he kept his composure! I am a true fan of Dos Caminos SoHo!

I'm a native of Southern California, so I know good guacamole. This place makes the stuff better than I've had up and down the West Coast -- amazing! Make sure to share an order with at least one person, otherwise you WILL consume the entire thing; and you should save room for the awesome entrees, especially the grilled fish selections -- yum!

The only thing worse than the food was the service. We were served warm beer and when we asked for cold ones the waitress acted like we were prudes. I will drink warm beer but not when they are $8 a piece. I make a point to always clean my plate, but on this occasion it could not be done. I ordered the flank steak and it was truly the most brutal steak I have ever had. When we received the bill is when the true pain began. Not to mention leaving a tip for a rude, lazy, unattractive waitress.

Went here for a friend's birthday--we have a group of 8, not too large. The cactus margaritas are very good, as is the guacamole, but for people who enjoy good mexican food, there are much better places in NYC. Only go here if you have more money than you know what to do with because it is very very expensive--not at all a value and nothing special. Will not go again.
