Ate here on a Saturday night around 8:30 with some friends, and even though we didn't have a reservation, we got a booth right away. Great start... From there, things only got better. The food was INCREDIBLE. Simply divine. Walk, run,

I love the food. Great menu - incredible staff. The prices are a bit high, but when you are out on the town ... it is worth the money!

I knew Jim from when he did time behind the bar at Margaux's in North Raleigh and was totally bummed when I heard he left to start a new venture. Yeah, that was years ago. Tracked him down and checked out his new digs at Humble Pie. Great decor. Fantastic eats. And, of course, pretty much every beverage you could ever want...except for that $1,000 bottle of cabernet. (Jim: You hearing me? I need some top shelf reds on that list!)

Took a friend who has Celiac Disease (wheat gluten) to Humble Pie restaurant with the kids. The kids got the usual - pasta with parmesan. The great news is that my friend had several delicious choices without gluten. She confirmed ingredients with the chef. It was excellent.

This place is awesome. My wife and I go to dinner or Sunday brunch almost twice a month. The menu is great and has items you won't find anywhere else. Try the mahi with gouda potatoes. The host (who I think is the owner) is professional and always helping out the servers. When friends or clients ask where to go, I always tell them Humble Pie!

This is the 3rd -- and absolute LAST time -- we've gone/will go to Humble Pie. Restaurant was mostly empty tonight, so we got prompt service from the regular waitstaff. Food was decent, but in comparison to other places in the area (The Pit, Zely & Ritz, Tasca Brava, etc), food was mediocre and definitely not worth the price, particularly since the owner was really rude to our group. We will definitely not go back. I do not recommend taking your guests here either. We had out-of-town guests, and they now have a horrible opinion of Raleigh dining.

Food was great. This is a wonderful place for a group with varied tastes or wanting to sample plenty of dishes. Our group had no fewer than 6 or 7 apps. and tapas and ALL of them were delicious. We were disappointed the cheese plate and banana dessert we wanted to order was not available, but the chef personally came to our table and made us a "make up" dessert for the birthday girl. Super berries and cream.
For the selections we had, we were pleasantly surprised the food bill was reasonable. A great place for dates, girl's night, a large group, or a light pre-party dinner/drinks. Would highly recommend for all of them. Atmosphere is nice and open inside and patio looks romantic and cool at night.

The food and atmosphere work together to create a perfect dining experience. The restaurant was large and spacious with a warm, inviting feel. For two people, we had four dishes which was more than enough. Three dishes to share would probably be the best combination. The shrimp and grits and ahi tuna were absolutely to die for! The shrimp broth really was "of the gods" with such a rich, but yet refreshing flavor. The grits were in the form of crispy cakes that melted in the broth to create a most satisfying texture. The ahi tuna was perfectly seared on the outside and a deep red in the middle. Their food was so delicious and I plan on going back many times more.

Jim and Joe's Place: If you had asked Joe when he was having convulsions on-stage at State's Sigma-Nu Fraternity at a Johnny Quest show, that years and years ( and years) later he would be paired up with one of Raleigh's famous bartenders (Jim, dummy) and together own one of Raleigh's top speak-easy hipster joints...he'd have said, "Probably." This place is the Viper Room for Raleigh. If you don't know what that is, ask your mom or dad.

The food is gold plated extacy and the service staff is more educated than you are. Love it.

Wonderful. My boyfriend and i went and got a total of 4 dishes, and EACH were wonderful and filling. People were friendly and its the best food i've had since moving to the triangle 3 years ago (from chicago....so i was a little spoiled with wonderful cuisine before). We'll definitely go there again

I went to this restaurant with a couple of friends recently, and I have to say it was a lot of fun. The food was delicious, and not too skimpy for tapas like a previous reviewer mentioned. The drinks were incredibly reasonably priced when we got the bill, compared with most places in town that will charge you $10 or more for a high-end vodka martini.

Our server was very laid-back and knowledgeable (we had the little blond girl, I didn't catch her name), and was able to steer us in the right direction on some menu choices. The stuffed shells were amazing, and we had a mushroom dish that was really good too at her reccommendation. Overall, service was wonderful, friendly, and efficient.

The table we sat at was out on the patio, which I have to say is one of the best in town, and it's much less loud than inside. People had a dog out there, which is good to know, because I have a dog and a lot of places won't let you sit with your dog on the patio. The one bad thing is that the flies out there get pretty annoying before dark, but once the sun went down they went away.

My wife and I have always loved Humble Pie for brunch, so we decided to check it out for dinner last weekend. We took another couple and had a fantastic time. We shared wine, desserts, and at least 10 dishes. The saltimbocca and the mushroom napoleon were great. Our bill was very reasonable for the huge spread. Our waitress was attentive and answered all questions. We plan on going back for Valentine's Day!

I enjoy TAPAS style restaurants but stay away from the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. Unless you like paying $9 for 3 small pieces of shrimp (and nothing else with it).

The waiters were very good - the salad was good and the atmosphere was nice.

My husband and I have been to Humble Pie several times since it's been reopened as a tapas restaurant, and we've never been disappointed. We've even taken our baby there for Sunday brunch a couple of times, and we had a good experience every time (even though I see other reviewers say it's not a good place for kids... we haven't tried bringing our child there for dinner). My husband helped coordinate a reunion gathering back in their lounge, and they were very accommodating coming up with a variety of heavy appetizers to please the crowd. I also went before going to "A Christmas Carol" a few weeks ago, and I was surprised that there weren't more pre-theater diners there (the staff were very attentive to ensure we made it to the show on time). Love the crab cakes and the chicken saltimbocca in particular; the bread pudding is fantastic! Wine list is varied and very reasonably priced, too. In warmer weather, we like to eat outside. Only downside is that there isn't a designated parking area, but we've been pretty lucky finding parking on the street whenever we've gone.

I have been to Humble Pie four times now and never been disappointed. The only menu item we repeated is the shrimp and grits because my husband just loves the "broth of the gods" that comes with it... but other than that, we are working our way through the entire menu! The restaurant has a casual, relaxed atmosphere and is open LATE, which can be really nice in a town where many of the restaurants shut their kitchens at 10!
The portion sizes for the tapas are on the large side, so order a couple and see if you want more. Service is attentive but not overbearing, and quite interesting to look at (one waitress has pink hair and a giant butterfly tattoo on her chest).

We dined at Humble Pie just this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. Plenty of tapas to choose from, most were reasonably priced, and service was great! Only drawbacks were that their Tortilla Espanola is not a TRUE Tortilla Espanola and some tapas were a little too small to share. The other tapas we tried were excellent--try the black bean crepe or the chicken enchiladas--both were VERY good! I will visit again when in the tapas mood!

I've been going to Humble Pie for years, still it's one of my favorite restaurants/bars in Raleigh. Eddie is the best bartender in town, hands down! Also a word of advice: if you've never had tapas, start a dialogue with your waiter/waitress, ask them about the menu, admit that you may not know exactly what you're ordering and they'll totally help you out! It's a great way to learn about the entrees, and that way you won't leave disappointed.

Pros: Get the Quick Spinach! It's the best.

Cons: It can get a little toasty inside during the summer.

My girlfriend had her birthday party at Humble Pie last week. There were 9 of us and everybody had so much fun. The food, especially the spinach tart and the pork tenderloin, were amazing. We had dessert and a lot of wine and our bill was cheaper than most "nice" places I have been to downtown. Service was helpful and our table on the patio was perfect. Thank you Humble Pie for a great 35th birthday party. We will all be back soon!!!

A few things about Humble Pie: It's trendy, which makes for a cool atmosphere but you pay for it. The food IS yummy, but incredibly overpriced. I ordered paella, which at about $15 should have contained more than 4 tablespoons of food. I know tapas; I've been to Spain and other restaurants that serve them. This is far too much money for the food. All of my friends in our large party enjoyed what they'd ordered, but we ALL felt like we should go to another restaurant to eat afterwards ... we'd all spent at least $20 and were still hungry. Also, I witnessed our server pushing his finger into my friend's steak - I assume to see which is was: the one ordered more rare or the one ordered well done - which is inexcusable. The owner did personally apologize but EWW.

When my girlfriend asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday, I said "Humble Pie!" This place is our favorite in downtown. The food is spectacular, especially the mahi mahi and the shrimp and grits. We have turned many of our friends on to the Humble Pie. The warehouse has character and the staff is attentive. Kudos!

This last review does not reflect the fine service and hospitality that my wife and I have received every time we set foot in Humble Pie. Both of the owners are always helpful and professional. We already knew one of them from one of our other favorite haunts. We took another couple with us last weekend. They are from Atlanta and said their meal and service were better than anything back home. Go for the martinis and the "godzilla roll." You will not go wrong.

I went to Humble Pie for the first time tonight for a wine tasting. It was fun, the apps were good - especially this one that had cheese with melted honey around the plate. Unfortunately, when I went to put the wine rep's card in my purse I realized (to my horror) that a large amount of honey had been dribbled all over one end of it!!!! My purse ended up being ok, I think (this just happened about 20mins ago). Then the hostess of my party was gracious enough to approach the owner about giving me some kind of compensation, a free appetizer or en tree, something to that effect. When she returned to the table she said he was offended that she had asked and said I'd better not expect them to buy me a new purse. The waiter did come over with a brawny towel (too little too late) and offered to look up on-line a solution to this cleaning problem (which by then was under control no thanks to anyone other than the bartender - who at first referred me to the lady's room). Don't get me wrong, it was nice of my waiter to offer, but at no point did anyone say to me that they were sorry honey had been poured onto my (expensive) purse in their restaurant! And on my way out, when I tired to explain that a heart felt "I'm so sorry" goes a long way to the owner his first response was that he didn't know what happened, and then he thanked me for my input. Which left me with the impression of, "Go way you fussy little woman and stop bothering me." I have to say, the purse I can get over, but the fact that the owner himself made me feel insignificant and petty makes me never want to step foot in that place again.

I eat at Humble Pie pretty frequently. It's not as great as some of it's competitors (Underground most notably) but it's still pretty good.

The patio is great in the warm months.
The bar is full of interesting types.
The 'asian fusion' items are never fantastic, so pass on them.

i used to frequent humble pie before the new ownership. it was good, but erratic. the food could be incredible or awful. if you knew the wait staff, the service was great, yet i know a couple who had a cigarette butt flicked at them by a server who was offended by the small tip (rightfully) given to him.

it couldn't be more different now. the staff and owners go to great lengths to ensure customer satisfaction and comfort--they're warm and friendly w/o being obsequious. the patio may very well be the nicest outdoor dining area in raleigh. the food is reasonably priced and consistantly very good.

and most importantly, they don't mind that we bring our dogs!

humble pie is a downtown gem.

i used to frequent humble pie before the new ownership. it was good, but erratic. the food could be incredible or awful. if you knew the wait staff, the service was great, yet i know a couple who had a cigarette butt flicked at them by a server who was offended by the small tip (rightfully) given to him.

it couldn't be more different now. the staff and owners go to great lengths to ensure customer satisfaction and comfort--they're warm and friendly w/o being obsequious. the patio may very well be the nicest outdoor dining area in raleigh. the food is reasonably priced and consistantly very good.

and most importantly, they don't mind that we bring our dogs!

humble pie is a downtown gem.

Pros: great patio, dog-friendly, terrific food and service.

Cons: parking can be a little tricky on weekends.

I recently attended a dinner/birthday party at Humble Pie with 10 others and had a great time. The patio where we sat was very busy, but our server was on top of things. My meal was delicious. I highly recommend the godzilla roll and the mussels. The restaurant was busy, especially the bar which looked very inviting.

My husband and I have eaten brunch at Humble Pie 5-6 times and the food and service are always wonderful. Although it is often very busy on Sundays, the host and staff do a great job. We always go early to enjoy their homemade biscuits.

I actually like Humble Pie, but this Sunday was the worst. It was so hot. They were out of biscuits and potatoes (which happens) I realize however these come with the meal and no substitutions were offered. I am in the restaurant business and this would have never happened at my place of business. The attitude of the staff was extremely nonchalant about the fact that the restaurant was out of half their menu and then we saw the staff eating french fries as we were leaving. Why were we not offered an alternative to the above items? There are a lot of grocery stores in Raleigh, nobody could get some toast? Why were we charged for the items that normally come with our meals? It was a terrible disappointment and the Bloody Mary's are expensive and short.

Wow! What an unexpected surprise! My friend has eaten there often and raved about Humble Pie, now I know why. The food was delicious, a lot to choose from, and they accommodate certain dietary needs. We ate outside on the patio. Our server was extremely professional and so knowledgable. I have a diet challenge and she worked with me on what to choose and was very patient. The prices were reasonable and the drinks were wonderful! I would go back in a minute and I plan to go back often. I found the atmosphere outside to be very romatic, could use some more white lights on the trees and surroundings for that more romatic touch. The inside was ecclectic. A bit of a colder atmosphere though. Could use some warming up inside. Other than that, this place is one of the best I have been to. If you have not edperienced this tapas restaurant, you need to go, you won't be disappointed!

A group was there for someone's birthday, and a waiter broke a bottle of wine that we brought as a gift. They kept promising to replace it before the end of the evening, saying the owner would be over to "make his promise good". But he never came over and we finally asked for him before we left, and he acted very rude. The story was they would "get the same bottle to her that week". She has yet to receive her birthday gift(it's been over a month!) and we don't plan on going back to the restaurant!!!!!

I ate here last night with some friends. It was my second time at Humble Pie in a week. The food is a great deal for the money. We had different waiters each time and they were both helpful with suggestions and service. We sat outdoors on the patio.

Dinner here is great for those of us who don't eat dinosaur portions like the rest of the restaurants want to serve. Tapas to die for, in a decent price range. Wednesday nights offer a special-dinner for two and a bottle of wine for thirty bucks. The menu is great.
Brunch is highly recommended, the drinks are really tasty and just what you need if you enjoyed Saturday night too much. The food's great too.
The atmosphere is gorgeous, I wish this place was my apartment. You won't be disappointed.

My husband and I recently went to a friend's birthday party at Humble Pie. It was our first time dining at this fantastic restaurant. Food and service are wonderful. The owners, or maybe they were the managers, stopped by our table more than once to check on us. We already have plans to go back next week. Prices are more than fair as well. Go to Humble Pie!

Although located on the less populated looking side of downtown Raleigh, "Hpie" serves up some very tasty food. I agree that the portion is really quite good for small plates. The staffs that worked there was friendly and attentive as well (we did dine early for a Friday evening, around 7:30-9:00). The decore of the place is OK, and lacked a bit in charm (we sat facing the kitchen, not the mostly romantic place), but I will go back for the food anytime. The Reisling I had with my dinner was too sweet, but it's only a personal preference, really.

Any of you who tried Humble Pie after the re-opening a few years ago need to go back! The new Chef, Thor, is fantastic and the menu is re-invented with fresh ingredients and an emphasis on local flavor. The shrimp and grits are to die for as is the grouper. What's really exceptional is the value, they have some of the best priced bottles of wine and very generous portions for tapas. it would be worth it even if the atmosphere lacked charm, but thankfully it doesn't, instead it's cozy and inviting. My husband I usually stop in once a week, we eat out often, but it's still a favorite.

My husband and I dine here regularly and it gets better every time. The staff and bartenders always make us fell welcome and remember our "usuals". Chef Thor has nearly perfected everything on the menu and owner/bartender Jim makes a mean margarita. You have to go just for the spinach tart and the grouper, fantastic!!

The "new" owners of The Pie, Joe and Jim, have kept one of my favorite places in Raleigh open and that is thanks enough.
However, the glow of the status quo was not enough to take my mind off the horrible service my group received. It became readily apparent that the hipster waitstaff that is the Pie's trademark and one of its benefits, is also a drawback. Go there when the staff is in the weeds and witness that hallmark of our generation: the Gen-X snotty attitude.
That unpleasantness aside, the food still kicks, but we all miss the old chef(s).
Oh, and by the way, you can catch some great bands during the week, while soaking up the atmosphere, vodka and pretty males and females.
Go. Now. Just be wary not to irk the staff.
