Do not be fooled by the glowing positive reviews that popped up after two former members revealed Club H is not what it advertises itself as. And it is more than just coincidental that two reviews were written on the same dates (and one by someone billing themselves as Jane Jonies! C'mon! Really?).

Club H *could* be a wonderful club given its size, location, and the class space, HOWEVER, equipment is often broken, the locker rooms have been severely under maintained, and the swanky cafe/juice bar goes largely untended.

I agree with the prior poster's comments about the towels being thin and smelling funky. In the two years I was a member, towels and showering facilities went from luxurious to down-right low budget motel. Walls are banged up. Amenities like blow driers and soaps and even hand towels have become decrepit or non-existent. Seriously, I am afraid of even stepping foot into the sauna - one of the things I most used to enjoy about my visits ? and one of the few things that warrants this club charging $139 for a membership (considering there are no swimming facilities).

My gym requirements are relatively modest - working treadmills, a few stationary weights, and someplace clean to lock up my stuff. Most if not all times I visited the club (roughly 4x a week) 25 to 45% of treadmills would be inoperable - I mean wouldn't move, wouldn?t turn on! - and would remain so for at a minimum a week to 10 days. This does not include treadmills with TV's in them which simply didn't tune in a channel - because that was practically 55% of them.

I finally quit this gym because I could run outside and not be impeded by waiting for a working treadmill or repulsion of skanky towels and floors.

One of the best clubs I've been to in the city. The staff is friendly, the place is always clean, and the classes are great! I love all of the spin instructors at Club H. Pros: Staff

.

I was psyched to join this fab gym and get in shape. However, in the 2 years I've been there, the staff turnover is nearly 100%, the manager is never there-- sometimes there are only 2 people working, the locker room is never staffed, the towels are thin and smell unclean and the steam room floor looks like they slaughter cows in there after hours. Minor repairs needed to equipment and the workout floor, i.e. a broken railing, take weeks or even months to fix. Complaints are generally ignored. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone.

KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY TRAINING SESSIONS YOU USE!

I was a member at Club H, and I thought the gym was fantastic at first. I met with a trainer for about eight months, and it was going very well. I purchased a training package that would last me for the rest of the time that I was living in NYC. About two months before I moved away, my trainer started asking me if I knew how many sessions I had left. I wasn't keeping a running total of how many I had used, but I knew that they should last me for a few more months. A few sessions later, after him still suggesting I ask at the front desk, I did that. They told me that I was out of sessions.

I went home and tallied up how many sessions I had used, and figured I should still have 15 left. I tried to meet with my fitness advisor, but she was hard to get in touch with. So I emailed her. She responded by saying that it was her last day, and forwarded my email to the trainer, the training manager, and another fitness advisor (I think she was a fitness advisor).

I contacted the new fitness advisor, and she gave me a printout of the sessions that were logged. The trainer had been logging several sessions on some days, as well as sessions on dates that I was away on vacation. She told me that they could credit some of the sessions back, but that they had to talk to the trainer about how many were actually used. I asked if I could get a refund because I didn't want to do training with that trainer anymore. He was trying to cheat me out of 11 sessions. The other 4 were a computer error, supposedly.

She said that they wouldn't give a refund, so I asked to speak with the manager. The training manager came to meet with me. I explained the situation and explained that I didn't want to meet with a trainer for the sessions because I was moving and would only have about two weeks left in the city. She said that if I was moving they could refund the sessions and it wouldn't be a problem.

She got the training notes from the trainer. He lied about sessions that we had done. He claimed that we had done sessions while I was in Boston and in Maine. I showed travel confirmations to the manager so she could see that I was out of town. He claimed that I cancelled sessions while I was in California on a month long trip. I showed her the confirmation for that, as well as emails between the trainer and me.

She credited the sessions back to my account and told me they would refund my account when I showed proof that I had moved. I went back to NYC to cancel my membership after I had moved, and I emailed her that day to let her know that it should be all set to refund the money. I heard nothing back. A month later, I emailed again, and I got a response from the corporate office saying that they would not refund the money.

I emailed her all the correspondence between the manager and I, and explained that it was not just that I was moving. She contacted the manager, and then refunded me for 8 of the 14 sessions. I asked about the rest of the money, and still have not heard back.

So, after almost three months of correspondence with the gym, I have only received a portion of what they owe me. And, after all of this madness, THE TRAINER STILL WORKS AT THE GYM.

I have been trying to find out how to pursue legal action against the trainer. If anyone has advice about this, let me know.

Wow, this place is in free fall. Was an excellent place to work out last year, no longer. Sorry. They lowered prices dramatically to increase their member base, which does not really help to improve the experience for long term members. Now, for the first time, one has to wait for machines in the late afternoon. Also, they fired people to cut cost, the cleanliness of the whole gym suffers.
Bottom line: Invest your money elsewhere.

When I first joined this gym I liked the vibe and enjoyed all the amenities. Since then, oh my, things are getting worse by the day. The level of service is declining rapidly, AC is shut off or too high, it's very humid, personnel has an attitude and doesn't feel like greeting you. Also, sometimes no towels or shower gel :-( It's too bad, I liked this gym :-(

I love when you first join Club H you are immediately given a tour of the gym and you get an assessment by one of the trainers there. Its really nice to be able to get acquainted with a gym before you start actually using it and that?s what the trainers helped me do. I wanted a trainer because I had stopped playing sports competitively and therefore knew I needed to change my workout style. The trainers had great recommendations and really gave me a lot of insight. The workout regiment they prescribed to me was very personal and catered to my likes and dislikes while working out. I really love club H because it?s always so clean and not crowded all the time. It basically has everything you could want from a gym.

I have been a member at this Club H gym for a few months. Club H fitness programs are awesome. The gym is the perfect place to workout. I love running on the treadmills, and using all of the different cardio machines. This gym is gorgeous. The gym employees are really nice and always accomodating to me. I have been to many gyms in the past and this place is my favorite workout experience yet.

Pros: gorgeous gym facility

Cons: none

.

Other than paying more than I would have liked for a gym membership ($115/month), I was perfectly content with Club H - it's located right next to my apt., never crowded, has TVs on all of the cardio machines - until I tried to cancel my membership. When I signed up 9 months before, I knew I would be moving to California within the year. My roommate and I both made agreements with Club H that if we moved more than 8 blocks away, we could cancel our membership. They did not honor this at all. I'm moving, and yet they're still making me pay because my name is not on the lease (moving into my boyfriend's house) and I'm a freelance writer so I don't have a letter from HR saying I'm moving out to California for a job.

In essence, I am a bit livid and would NOT recommend this club to anyone anytime.

Also, the last few times I was there, I timed my cardio workout to end right at 11pm, when they closed. At 10:50, the staff tries to make me leave and eventually kicks me off the equipment at 10:55. The hours say until 11pm, which I take to mean I can be on the equipment until then. I was not appreciative of the customer service.

Pros: TVs, few people

Cons: staff is rude, they don't honor commitments, hours aren't very reasonable

The facility is beautiful. It's so nice NOT to be in the basement of a building while working out. The gym floor has an entire wall of windows facing south above street level. Yes, the equipment is new, but there just isn't enough. Some very key pieces are missing. If you're a serious lifter or body builder, this probably isn't the place for you. Apparently, getting more equipment is a long, involved process. I've been hoping and asking for a decline bench press for 6 months now. Kind of disappointing. On the other hand, the staff is very nice, the gym floor and locker rooms are nicely kept, and the location is easy for the hell's kitchen neighborhood.

it was much nicer than i expected. the locker rooms are great. lots of space and really clean. i enjoy my workout. i like the layout and feel of the gym. at other gyms i use to feel like i was either being watched or surrounded by idiots. so far, my experience has been great. since i never heard of the gym before i wasn't sure what to expect, but i was pleasantly surprised. they also have a nice cafe/lounge which you don't find at a lot of gyms.

Pros: not crowed, clean, looks cool

Those first "reviews" are totally dubious, given that the gym did not even open until December '06. The writers barely attempt to conceal their posting as advertisements, poor grammar in one of them notwithstanding. That said, Club H is a nice, boutique gym. It has no uncommon amenities (for example, no pool, basketball, or spa); but it is new (still clean) and reasonably priced, falling mid-range between Gold's Gym and Equinox in the neighborhood. It's smaller than most of the other gyms in the area that I've visited. The staff are friendly.

Pros: nicely designed; new, clean equipment and locker room

Cons: nothing exceptional about the gym or its offerings

Club H is amazing. I do not even live near by and still joined, to say the least I hate going anywhere further then a walk from my apartment. The equipment alone is the newest, CLEANEST (obvious important to me since gym's actually breed there own bacteria), and most advanced. It has everything you could ever imagine. The locker rooms contain showers that put NYC prestige hotel showers to shame. The yoga studio and fitness class room are spacious. The numberous amount of cardio machines already tells me there will be no waiting for the fat old sweaty guy to finish his 3 hour 3 mile walk, not to be snotty, but I hate when I want to do 30 minutes of cardio after a light weight day and there is some one on it for an extended period of time at NYSC. To top it all off the no start up fee for its grand opening and a monthly fee lower then the crowded NYSC and Equinox in the area it was a no brainer. If you haven't checked out the club yet, i would suggest you do. however at the same time i hope you not too many of you join i want to have all the things that make it so sweet for myself.

Pros: Reasonable monthly fee, best equipment, friendly staff, big and not in a basement, good hours

Cons: n/a

Saw the signs that Club H is opening in Hells Kitchen. Really excited, as this is " The Health Club" in Hoboken - which I personally used. Now they are coming to the west side. The idea of working out on brand new, never used equipment won me over.

Pros: Brand New, Location, Reputation

Cons: No Club H Spa, only one in Manhattan ( for now)
