Wolfgang's Steakhouse Tribeca

★★★★☆
After 40 years at fabled Peter Lugar in Brooklyn, the well-known headwaiter Wolfgang Zwiener went to Midtown. As they say, once you've succeeded in Midtown, it's time to hit Tribeca.

A lot of hype surrounding this place. It was OK, but for the price I'd expect more. Porterhouse was good, but a little over-cooked. Sides were decent, but portion size was too small. Service was nothing to write home about.

I went here for the first time last week when my parents were in town. I definitely recommend the porterhouse steak for 2-3. The sides were good, but not all that large. You might have to order a few in order to have enough to go around. I

Had a celebration with a bunch of friends. This place is like a carnival. Loud, rude, and classless. The waiters are extremely unprofessional, literally THROWING things onto the table. I sat in awe, wondering what sort of logic could

Excellent steak! Last night was my fist time to go to wolfgangs steak house and I loved it. It was ten of us and the manager gave us a round table. The food was amazing. The waiter suggested the seafood platter for appetizer and he was 100% right. There was more than enough food on that plate: lobster, shrimp, crab meat, oysters. Their steak for four was amazing, we had three steaks for four, medium rare, and every steak was done perfectly. It was unbelievable how the temperature on all three steaks was the same . Their Germen Potato and cream spinach was spectacular. Mushrooms and peas and onions were very tasty. Our dinner would not be completed without the wine we had Opus One great wine. Their wine list in general was very good, it had lots of choices. We are definitely going back next week highly recommended especially for groups parties, couples even solo i highly recomend this place fro portions, pricing , service , quality, professionalsm and outstading food.

Pros: God bless the service and food

Cons: i live on wolfgangs appitizers :P

We got the bacon as the appetizer, porterhouse for two, cream spinach, German fries and finally hot fudge sundae. The bacon was not the regular one you get from grocery store, it is a little thicker than the Canadian bacon and more jucier. You pair it with mozzerlla and tomato and onion and their house sauce. It was ilke heaven. The steak of course was amazing and we couldn't finish it. We packed everything to go in the wolfgangs doggy bags. Our waiter named steve the head waiter was actually pretty attentive and nice he was quiet the gentle man . the co-owner zio music was a very kind fellow who has bought my table wine on the house since of course i am there regular customer. also not to mention the irresistable filet mignon pure lean meat with jusciy creamy sauce and medillion mushrooms, to top it all off the amazing key lime pie, which was slathered with schlag .

Pros: huge dining room and wine selection

.

Wow talk about meat mountain our steaks were absolutely huge. These were of a quality we simply cannot get at home. While amazingly cheap we found the quality and quantity to be great value.Service was both friendly and attentive. My only is having two of those swimming pool size size martinis, and theshrimp coctails were outstanding in quantity and quality the bar was full had to wait an hour and half to get in but well worth it, by far the best steak i had ever had perfect for a couples retreat and amazingly cheap not pricey as it would be at sparks or smith and lowisnkys steak house , and better steak the the legendary Peter Luger's steak house. I am always by the bar every day fro drinks and friday out to dinner at tribeca AMAZING QUANTITY qaulity and service , the decor is beutifull classy , old .

We always lunch and dine at park ave but last friday tried this location on tribeca. Let me tell you that it's amazing! Just as great as midtown only more spacious and almost no wait at the door. The steaks are the same top steaks served as at park ave, the satff provided us with excellent expedious service.Of course we had the bacon appetizer and the tomato and onions; tobe followed by steak for the table. It's amazing how they get the steaks so sizzzzzling!!! The filet part just melts like butter in my mouth. We had german potatoes, creamed spinach and onion rings as always. Thanks Wolfgang we'll b back for more!!!!

When you're in the mood for a more upscale experience than the german steakhouse feel of Luger's, this is a nice change of pace (personally, I love the Luger's atmosphere). They also accept credit cards, which Luger's does not but there's something to be said for the feel of forking over a few hundred in cash.

Everything about the visit here was top notch. From exceptional service to the outstanding service.

The midtown location should take lessons on how to do it right. Hard to believe it is the same.

AN OUTSTANDING DINING EXPERIENCE
STAY AWAY FROM THE MIDTOWN LOCATION -
IT IS A MESS

We were there last week on Valentine's Day, it was crazy, very busy and we had to wait a bit, it was worth it. The beautiful hostess and coat check girls at the front were very polite and efficient despite the crowd ! The place is huge , we where seated at a nice table in the corner. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. If you go there you have to order the German potatoes and the steak of course. For appetizer go with the crab cakes, yummm :) The fish is delicious too, try the tuna! The Creme brulee and the cheese cake are a must to make this dinner end in a perfect way. I would go there again if I am in a mood for good steaks or even fish! :)

Food was great, however the atmosphere is kind of old class. Great for anniversaries, dates and bringing the parent here. The filet mignon is tender and juicy and the wines as most nice restaurants have a decent selection. I'm not sure if I would want to come again unless it was a special occassion as a surprise. I've had better with far better decor, but I am not knocking it... food is great!

but this steak may be better the Peter Lugers. I have eaten at just about every good steakhouse in NYC. IMO nothing has ever competed with Lugers but I have seen Lugers slip a bit and I may have to put Wolfgangs in my number 1 spot. The steak for 2 was cooked perfectly. The filet melted in my mouth. For an appetizer we had the bacon, shrimp cockatail and lobster cocktail(not on the lugers menu). The shrimp was probably a little smaller then lugers but very good. The sides were comparable to lugers. I was too full to go for the dessert.

This is one of the worst steaks I've ever had. Everything was salty as hell (and I like salt) and poorly cooked. The meat was an average quality and tasted of nothing (besides salt). The only saving grace was that the house steak sauce was very sweet so you could bathe the meat in it to cut through the salt and at least get your sustenance. The waiters are constantly trying to up-sell expensive wine and even tried to swap one of my bottles for one 4x the price. They are deceptive and the food is terrible. Stay away unless a lunk headed, palette-challenged trader on an expense account.

on a scale of 1-10 i rate wolfgang's tribeca a 4.
i ordered a sirloin steak and my date a filet mignon. i was quite suprised when my steak came to the table
sliced, like i was a little kid. my waiter did not tell me it was sliced steak. and to top it off, it had little flavor.
the filet wasn't much better.
we had the apple strudel for desert...seems like it was made last week. very stale.the highlite of this dining experiance was the entertaining bartender named SAL.

Touted as a steak-eater's heaven, the restaurant left me wanting much more. The steak I ordered was not cooked to my specification, and tasted more of charred butter coating it than anything else. The appetizers were, in fact, much better, than either one of the two steaks I got to taste. Moreover, despite having made reservations well in advance for a special occasion dinner, we were made to wait and then seated in the obnoxiously loud bar area, with traffic of people, sports on TV, and many other things one would not expect of a nice dinner. One of the most forgettable steaks I've had in NYC for years, but makes up for it somewhat with very nice basic appetizers, great shrimp cocktail, and interesting wine selection.

Normally I just use this site for researching places to eat, however my experience at Wolfgang's last night prompted me to write this review. We had a business dinner last night for about 14 people and fromt he moment we arrived the service was excellent. We were seated promptly. (Experienced an hour wait at the Wolfgangs in mid-town when I had previously eaten there) Once we were seated, we were waited on by at least 3 or 4 waiters. We had someone at our table every two minutes, clearing out plates, refreshing our drinks, or bringing us more food. We must have re-ordered about 20 pieces of bacon, a few additional crabcakes, and plenty of shrimp cocktail and each time the food was brought out withing 5 mins. The staff was extremely friendly as well.

As for the food, it was as good as the service. I was fortunate with a large group to sample the sirloin, porterhouse, and ribeye. All 3 cuts of meat were cooked to order and tasted phenominal. I am partial to the ribey, but the porterhouse was amazing and the sirloin was extremely lean and tasteful. The sides were all incredible. I did enjoy the mushrooms and spinach the most however.

For dessert, you cant go wrong with the ice cream sundae. Delicious.

Great job Wolfgangs SOHO!!!!

I was very lucky to get a table on the weekend for myself and visiting family. We waited a while at the bar to get seated, but it was worth it! I had one of the best meals I've had in New York and the family was floored. I would absolutely recommend this spot anytime. Maybe weeknights are better cause it's less crowded, but you won't regret it!

Mostly men inside & a bit stuffy. Atmosphere is hands down way better than Peter Lugars though. At least here they act like they care about your comfort & requests. Quality of food was excellent. You get what you pay for!

Heard that the owner was formerly associated with Peter Luger's and thought it'd be great to have Luger's steak without leaving Manhattan. . .
Ambiance: much, much better than Luger's: nice decor, bright, high ceilings, suede walls.
Food: Of course their specialty is the porterhouse. Although excellent, it was not as rich or flavourful as that at Luger's. The seafood platter appetizer was very satisfying. Sides (hashbrowns, sauteed mushrooms, asparagus) were good, though creamed spinach is better/richer at Luger's. As for dessert, apple strudel dessert was overpriced for the taste/portion, creme brulee was average.
Wine: extensive wine list. They really push a cab called Justin's, which was actually very very good, very flavourful.
Service: very pushy about certain items (the wine, the seafood appetizer, the dessert tasting set, the sides) that it got a little annoying. But overall very good service.
Location: 3 long blocks from the 1 line. Plenty of cabs, though you may need to walk a block to nab an empty one.
Cost: similar to Luger's, except you can actually pay by a regular credit card as well
