Ratings_icons West Coast Chief Repair is my reliable A/C service company

Scott M.

One of our 5 ton A/C units broke down about a month ago and we had West Coast Chief come out to fix it. It was a complicated repair but they know what theyre doing the unit was fixed in 2 days (required 3 trips). People at West Coast were also very understanding. The unit broke in the middle of a heat wave and they promptly dispatched their technician to fix it, so we didnt have to wait for days, it was getting pretty close to 100 degrees inside. Now, a month later, another heat wave comes around and our other 5 ton unit takes a dive. West Coast was here in under 3 hours and the unit was back up and running an hour later. Very professional outfit. Would gladly recommend and use again in the future. Semper Fi!

Ratings_icons GREAT COMPANY!!!

I am the owner of an apartment building. Recently, i had problems with my central air conditioner. We called west coast chief repair and they were wonderful to schedule the appointment right away for the same day. I was impressed by the efficiency of the customer service. The technician arrived on time and was very professional, knowledgable, and polite. He fixed the problem very promptly and even made a follow up call to see if everything worked well. I am very happy with the service I received from this company and would highly recommend them to my friends and family.

Ratings_icons West Coast Chief Repair - BAD SRVC DON'T USE

Spent two afternoons in a row waiting for them during my given service windows. The first night they never showed and I called them 40 minutes after my window was done.

The second night - after I was assured it wouldn't happen again - the same thing happened. They were going to get to me 20 minutes after my window. They explained it with traffic, but then you should have called when you realized you wouldn't make the window, not after the service window expires.

Unless you have tons of time to spare waiting for them when they likely will not show...please DO NOT USE THEM!

We called them when the freezer in our Subzero was freezing shut. The repairman was very creepy and unprofessional, ranting about problems in his personal life the whole time he was there. They were paid a couple hundred dollars to fix the problem, which they claimed was with the drainage hoses. The freezer froze shut again, and they sent out the same repairman. He insisted that nothing was wrong (even though the freezer had frozen shut!). Then he started yelling at me in Russian and stormed out of my house while I was on the phone with his superior! When the freezer froze shut a third time, they offered to send someone else out, but only if we would pay them more money. No thanks! We called Wilshire Refrigeration instead. They replaced the heater, and we have not had a problem since.

Ratings_icons Fast, honest, reliable- business done the old-fashioned way!

I was in a serious bind a couple weeks ago when the central air went out in my 150 capacity deli on the West side - all right before the busy lunch hour! I can't begin to say how thrilled I was when a young man from West Coast Repair arrived in less than an hour and saved me from having to close our doors and send 30 employees home! The problem ended up being no more than a damaged capacitor on the roof, but these guys pinpointed it effortlessly and had me back in business within 2 hours of my initial call to them. I want to add that there was no charge for the same-day service and the price was honest and competitive. Thanks Guys and stop buy for a free lunch anytime!Maurice, Santa Monica, CA

I called them for service because my furnace would shut off and go into safe mode. Tech came and took a look at furnace and said $215 to fix it. I asked him what he was going to do and he said he was going to clean and repair system. He said if it didin't work I owed him nothing but if it did the full $215 is due. I agreed since he made it sound like an extensive repair that warranted the $215 fee. He begins and ends his repair by inserting a metal "toothpick" into a tube to dislodge cobweb and then asked for full payment. I couldn't believe what just happened but just another example of public being swindled by a professional. Are there any honest people left? They sure don't work for this company.

Ratings_icons THE WORST REPAIR SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED

Greg Z.

I have never posted a review about anyone before I called on West Coast Chief Repair. They sent out a person who spoke no (and when I say no I mean none) English. He fixed my fridge then five weeks later the part they put in went bad. When I called them the person on the phone said that they would not charge me for the repair if the same part went bad. When the repair man came out again he tried to charge me $100.00 (when they advertised that their service call is $80.00). I ended up paying him $80.00 for the labor. A couple hours later that day I told them that now not only did my fridge not work but since the "repairman" came my freezer wasn't working either and they said to give it a few more hours. I called them a few hours later to tell them that my food was now defrosting and they really didn't seem to care saying that it wasn't their responsibility and that they would send somebody out the next day. I basically had to pay $80.00 more to have them fix the bad part that they put in originally. The result was that they made it worse, spoiled all the food in my freezer and didn't care at all. DON'T USE THEM, TRUST ME ON THIS ONE

Ratings_icons very disappointed

venice homeowner

i chose them on account of all the good reviews. we had a furnace generator that needed to be cleaned, requiring access from a crawlspace. they missed their 1st service window, and didn't arrive until the end of the 2nd. the price seemed exorbitant, given all that was required was to clean a part. i asked the technician why it was so much, and he said that his supervisor had given him a price. when i called the supervisor to ask how the price was determined, i got no clear answer, just that it was "more work than a washer or dryer". bottom line, we paid $250 for less than an hour's worth of work (and that's after i talked them down from $275!). when it costs $65 just to have them come out, and you've been without heat for a few days, it's difficult to send someone away- but i sure won't call these guys again!

Pros: did the work

Cons: overpriced, missed service window

Ratings_icons Home Waranties Are a Big Mistake

FixItIn2012

Where do I start? The first mistake I made was signing up for a home warranty with Total Protect Home Warranty through my mortgage company. One of the most dishonest companies I have ever dealt with! My oven was giving me some error messages. Called Total Protect. Had to call West Coach Chief Repair myself and pay them a $75 deductible. Had to wait while they ordered the part. They installed it, and then a week later, the SAME ERROR codes appeared. They did NOT honor their 90 days parts and 30 days labor guarantee and wanted to charge me an ADDITIONAL $75 for another part. So they MISDIAGNOSE the problem in the first place and then wanted to charge me twice to have it fixed. I said okay, call me back when the new part arrived. THEY NEVER CALLED BACK. I'm sure they figured out that they would not be reimpbursed by the Home Warranty company so they're comfortable with screwing their customer. NEVER AGAIN!

Pros: I only lost $75 to them

Cons: Dishonest, Misdiagnosed problem, Terrible Customer Service

Ratings_icons Smart Repair Guy - Great Refrigerator Repair

MichaelB

My whirlpool refrigerator was leaking, constantly running and making noise. Food inside the refrigerator portion was not keeping cool.

Tech came out - found a tare in the door gasket (rubber seal between the fridge and the door). Had a replacement part in his truck.

He replaced the gasket and gave us some tips on how to help keep the fridge cool during hot summers and showed us how to clean the condenser coils which helps with conserving electricity.

Can't complain about these guys.

Pros: Tech Knew what he was talking about

i'm open to the possibility of replacing the used refrigerator but i wish they would offer me the option of getting my money back. sure they can charge me for transportation and the visit but at least give an option, right?
for now they get a poor rating, but if they give me a better refrigerator and it lasts past a few months, then I'll come back and change it. but for now I'm not happy at all. I had to through out all the food I had, and haven't had a refrigerator in 3 days just trying to figure this out.

Ratings_icons Honest Service Guy/Good Service

bass2706

Here's my review to this company. It was 8:30am, July 4th and I have people coming over to my house to celebrate. My A/C stoppped working that morning. I started to panic. I know there will be no service company that will be able to come same day knowing the fact that its HOLIDAY. I searched for company on-line and didnt find anyone open but West Coast Appliance. Although I saw a lot of bad reviews, I still tried their service. I called and told the guy that its an emergency and I need someone to come over before noon-sounds too demanding. He told me that he'll call me back to check if theres someone to come and service my A/C. Luckyly after 10 min he called me back. He scheduled me from 11-1pm same day. The service guy showed up like around 12nn. He checked the my A/C and find out that the fuse is bad and needs replacement. Guess how much they charge me $55.00. Im not sure if this is too much or just right. Knowing its holiday $55 seems to be reasonable for me. The service guy could probably ask for more and I will pay him regardless since I dont know anything about appliances. What I am saying here-the service guy from West Coast Appliance is honest and dependable. He finished the job in 20 min.

I think this company have more bad reviews than good reviews i would say. But its worth to try-like my story. I would give them 5 star and recommend this company to my friends and family.

Pros: Accurate and Honest

Cons: I cant think of Any Cons

I had my thirty year old roof-mounted combo unit replaced by West Coast Chief Repair. Their staff took the time to understand my budget limitations and worked out an unbelievable deal. Their tech arrived on time with the heavy machinery and swapped out the old clunker in less than two hours. I now have a cool comfortable home to spend those dog days of summer in San Fernando Valley.
Thank you West Coast Chief Repair! You are the best.

Great Service. Pleasure to work with

I had some major problems with my AC unit. After trying a few other companies (who btw were not able to find out what was the problem and just keep charging me for the visits) I saw West Coast Chief Repair on the citi search.
The tech that came out was very professional and helpful. He identified the problem, repaired and even followed up with a phone call the next day. The price he charged me was very low too. (Compare to others)
Thank you West Coast Chief Repair. Would galdly do business with again.

Our AC unit went down over the weekend last summer on a hot day so we called them because we heard they were known for their quick service. The repairman showed up that same day. He looked at the AC unit and declared that it would cost too much to fix it but he was willing to come that Monday and install a new system for $ 2,100.00. He it was a one time deal and I would have to let him know by Monday morning. I said I would have to think about it and paid him his $60.00 service fee. I had to insist that he give me an invoice. He did not want to. I thought the whole thing was extremely fishy. My regular AC repair man showed up on Monday and fixed the AC unit for a total of $75.00. mmmhhh...

Pros: Quick service...

Cons: Incompetence...

Ratings_icons Pricing Was Shady, Service was Minimal

jack90046

As with the other reviewers, I couldn't get a straight quote over the phone. When the guy showed up, on time I might add, things looked hopeful. Then I was told I'd need a part that would cost $200 to fix the problem. I agreed to the price (bad move on my end), and later found the part on the internet for about $25. In addition, the tech didn't notice the new part caused my unit to cycle on and off every one minute. I didn't notice the problem either, until after he left. By then it was too late. Prior to his visit the unit never cycled on and off every minute.

Bottom line, the technician solved the initial problem but left me with another one. Oh, and I paid more than $200 for the visit. When all was said and done, I was left feeling I can't trust these guys and the work they do.

I read other reviews on here prior to calling them out, but thought the bad reviews might have been random occurrences. Unfortunately these guys are expensive and I question their ability to fully solve the problem.

Pros: Tech Was On Time, Company Was Quick to Respond

Cons: Fixed Problem But Left Me With Another, Expensive

Ratings_icons Expensive - I Won't Use Them Again

AinWeHo

When I called to ask their minimum rate for a service call, they wouldn't give it to me. All I needed was for them to replace a part (which I had on hand). While a simple replacement, it took the tech 20 minutes since he seemed unfamiliar with the part (luckily, the part came with instructions). Then they wanted to charge me $120. Wow, I'd like to earn the equivalent of $360 an hour! The previous company who had diagnosed the problem (they didn't have the part so I had to order it online, then I couldn't find their number to call them again) only charged me $65 for about the same length of time. I won't be using West Coast Chief Repair again, nor will I recommend them to my friends.

i've had to go through a few places in the yellow book for sub zero refrigerator repair, before I landed on this company. it seemed like they've been around for a while, and their website really put me at ease. I called them in the morning, scared of my food spoiling if I waited a day longer. they had a tech out that afternoon. english wasn't his first language, but it was enough to communicate what had to be done. the part had to be ordered, but it was affordable, even if i had to wait a few days.i'd recommend them to anyone with a broken sub zero!

The manager of my building had a tech from west coast come out the next morning. he was polite and listened patiently when i explained the problem. he took about 15min to closely inspect the heater and luckily had the right parts to replace with him on his truck. i could see why the property management uses them! i would comfortably refer them to any friend or neighbor.

Pros: professional quality

Ratings_icons 19 Days A/C Not Fixed & Seeking Damages In The Amt of: $8502.18

wbleyaert

Letter sent Certified Mail on October 19, 2008 to West Coast Chief Repair explaining the steps I took to resolve technicians mistake. Needed to seek alternative housing (local pet friendly hotel) due to temperatures reaching 90'c+. West Coast Chief Repair prolonged fixing their mistake and after two weeks waiting, the technician removed the incorrect motor and reinstalled original (non-functioning) motor. Also at the initial visit, the technician insisted the unit be replaced - at a cost of $5400, then lowered the price to $2300, and after my decline, offered to replace the motor at a cost of $775. When the technician realized his mistake, I was charged $175. The $175 charge consisted of an incorrect installed motor and their $55 service charge. I paid the stated amount and immediately contacted Mike at West Coast Chief Repair. After obtaining two separate opinions from HVAC professionals, I informed Mike of their findings and he offered to replace the motor. I scheduled the replacement motor visit for the next available date they could complete the work. Mike confirmed the repair for six days from my call (July 3). The technician arrived on site and to my disbelief, he removed the wrong motor he installed eleven days earlier and re-installed the original motor that I called to be replaced. With the visit landing on the holiday weekend, I was unable to have the repairs completed until the following Thursday. I was forced to relocate away from home, with my dog, nineteen days

II have owned two homes prior to the present one in which I live and have always dreaded having to do any major repairs or improvements. Anybody who?s had to go through it knows what a nightmare it can be working with contractors, estimates, and unmet deadlines while your home is in shambles. Apparently, the same rule does not necessarily apply to air conditioning contractors. At least it didn?t when I found out about West Coast Chief Repair and hired them to install my central a/c system. These guys completed the entire process (including city permit!) in a mind-boggling 4 days from estimate to completion! These guys are liars and very, very unreliable!! I made 2 appointmens with them to fix the A/C because they never showed up for the 1st appt and then was 1 DAY LATE to the 2nd appointment. I should've known from the day they came to give a quote - the guy showed up 5 minutes before the END of the 3-7pm window, and the guy was really rude and acted like he didn't want to be there. Then he never showed up for the 1st appt to fix the A/C and for the 2nd appt, he was supposed to get here by 7pm, but didn't call me until 7:45pm & told me he would rather come the next morning. So he was supposed to show up at 8am the next morning, but didn't show up until 8:30am & said he could finish in 15 mins, but didn't finish until an hour later. So rude and big liars! DON'T EVER USE THEIR SERVICE!!! The total cost came out to $750 for a condenser motor and fan blade. These guys are AC specialists. i needed my ac repaired because it just wasn't cooling anymore. i though it was just going to be some filter replacements but they actually cleaned my entire condenser and everything was working perfectly. Trust them, they have enough experience to do what ever is necessary to make an AC work.

Pros: FAST, good prices.

Cons: the tech i had didn't speak fluent English. Job was done great!

Ratings_icons LIARS!!!!

msc2436

I had West Coast Chief come do an inspection of the AC system of a house I was buying, and they said it was fine, maybe just needed some freon. Less than two weeks later, it broke. I called them to come back, and they said it needed a new motor, for $1,150. When I asked them why they didn't tell me it needed a new motor when they inspected it, they said these things just happen, and you don't know when they'll break. So I paid the fee, and then tried to get a reimbursement from my home warranty company. The warranty company called West Coast Chief to investigate the claim, and West Coast Chief said that they told me the motor broke because it needed a maintenance cleaning, and that they told me this during the inspection. LIE. They told me it broke because it just broke. So the warranty company denied the claim, calling it a pre-existing problem with the AC. If it truly needed a maintenance cleaning, and they had told me this during the inspection, I could have negotiated a reduced price on the house. They either lied to me, or they lied to the warranty company, or both, but I would never use them again. I stopped payment on the check, and I intend to take them to small claims court.

Pros: None

Cons: Everything about them.

Ratings_icons REPORT THESE GUYS TO THE STATE CONTRACTOR'S LICENSING BOARD

qmab9

Its the only way to something constructive about this fraud of an operation. We had our HVAC examined by these guys. My wife was home alone when they came out. After looking at the HVAC, one of them said that the HVAC was working fine, and that the thermostat might be the issue. Then, after talking with another worker in a language we could not understand, told us that the whole HVAC had to be replaced for almost $5,000.

We had another contractor come out, who fixed our existing HVAC for $200.

These guys are scamming people. We filed a complaint with the State Contractor's Licensing Board, and I strongly encourage all people with similar experience to go to the Board's website and file a complaint.

These guys

Pros: None

Cons: They are cons.

Ratings_icons Wouldn't use again

Crunchymom

Company phoned the day before to arrange time frame, then phoned several times delaying so I ended up waiting all day. Repair was done poorly, didn't clean up garbage and tried to recommend coming back the next day to do the job which they initially said wouldn't add to the cost, then said would add extra costs.

Ratings_icons Local or not, these guys are FAST!

Phu5146

I've never had a company come out, give me estimate, and get the job done THE SAME DAY! They charge a very minimum service fee to come out, but they'll deduct it from the price when they do the repairs. Trust me, you'll want the repairs to be done by them. Professional technicians who have decades of experience. I had them come out for my Maytag stackable washer and they sent me a technician who specialized in Maytag appliances for nearly 8 years! They have an enormous arsenal of technicians and they're ready to repair ANY appliance, SAME DAY if you request. I recommend them to anyone especially in Los Angeles area.

Pros: Response time, dispatching service, PRICES!

Cons: Some of their technicians don't speak fluent English. Their excellent dispatches make up for that.

kfrederation

i recently purchased a used stove from these guys and i'm extremely happy with the price and the warranty. i think twice before buying used anything but the salesperson was knowledgeable and courteous- unlike most places, he didn't try to push the products on me. highly recommended!

Pros: great service, great price, no swindling

Cons: merchandise is split between two locations

Ratings_icons I WOULD NEVER USE THESE PEOPLE AGAIN.

sheilajgw

They sent a repair man to our house to repair our Sub-0 wine cooler which had stopped working. After pulling everything out of the cooler, the repair man said we needed a new motor. He "replaced" the motor to the tune of $395. That was January 8, 2008. Two weeks ago, (early March, 2008) the cooler stopped working again. This time, they said we needed a new control panel. By this time, I had read a few reviews -- and I told him I needed a second opinion before spending additional money for a new computer panel. I then called Sub-0, and they referred me to an authorized repair service in No. Hollywood -- they just came out today -- and low and behold -- the motor had not been replaced at all ---and not only did we not need a new computer panel -- the problem was a wire in back of the unit that had been damaged by water.

You can draw your own conclusions --- but I will never use Chief Appliance Repair for anything -- ever again.

Pros: None

Cons: At best, they are incompetent.

Ratings_icons Don't know what they are doing

helenki

They came out to fix my refrigerator. Tech had me ordered the first part but didn't fix it. They sent different tech and told me I need to order different part so I did but still didn't fix it. Third one came and told me to order another part but when part arrived he said he couldn't install it. So he left without fixing it. Whole process took over three months and they finally said they can't fix it and will give my money back but that will take up tp 6 weeks to issue the check. When I called it took me long time to get a call back if I ever did. I left message for manager named 'SAM" like three times but never heard back from him until now. Don't ever call this place.

Ratings_icons Such a LIAR!

phongngan

LIAR!!LIAR. I called in and asked for a furnace's blower motor cleaning service and was told that the job was about $100-$200, but never over $200. The tech came in the next day and estimated $599 just for cleaning. Obviously, I asked why and he said that in order to clean the system, he needs to take out all the parts, clean them and put them back and that's very expensive. I wished they should have let me know in advance before I have them come in. Eventually, I had to pay $45 just for this guy to come in and estimate this cleaning job to be $599. Remember, this is only for cleaning, not repairs or anything like that. This guy just did nothing and stole my $45. Such a liar!!

Ratings_icons Never showed up.

donker1

I scheduled a service appt to repair a leaking water heater for the following morning. The next morning came and went however, and no one showed up or called. When I called them, I was informed the technician assigned my job was busy with another job, but another technician would be at my home no later than 2pm. He also never showed up or called. When I called again, I was placed on hold then disconnected twice. When I finally managed to get an answer out of someone, I was told that the second technician was also running late, and they would attempt to have another technician come to my house later in the day, but couldn't promise anything. Since they couldn't even assure me that a technician would actually arrive at any given time, I was forced to cancel the appt and call in another plumber, who arrived within 30 minutes and repaired my water heater. I would never call this company again, nor would I ever recommend them to anyone I care about. They do not appear to honor their appointments, and when they are running late, it has been my expereince they don't even have the professional courtesy to call and inform their clients.

Cons: They don't show up, nor do they call to let you know they won't show up.
