I used to really enjoy evenings at the upstairs loft of Professor Thoms.

However, do NOT throw your party here, at least not if you're expecting it to be free. While the loft is beautiful and the drinks reasonably priced, the $100 'refundable deposit' was in fact, never refunded, despite the initial agreement to use it only as a place-holder.

Multiple conversations with the bartender and weekend manager that night, a visit to the bar the next morning, and 6 unreturned voicemails in the following week could not compel them to keep stick to the agreement.

When there are hundreds of bars around Manhattan that don't charge for parties, why choose this one that does?

This year we held our holiday party upstairs at Professor Thom's and it was AWESOME! Great people, delicious food, and a festive atmosphere. And to top it all off, they cut us a really great deal on the party, so we got maximum fun for a very reasonable price. I would highly suggest renting out Professor Thom's for a party!

Interesting place with good food and a good time. Age range between 25 -35. People seem to be professionals of some type. Good location to other popular Pubs.

They say the customer is always right. Don't try to preach that at Professor Thom's, at least not to the manager/bartender who is older with grey-ish hair and likes to wear yellow button down shirts. This guy was incredibly rude and didn't care at all about the customers around him. I am surprised this guy is employed at all with that kind of attitude. He was rude enough to convince me to never step foot in this bar again. If you are into managers of bars treating patrons with no respect, this is definitely the place for you. If you are someone who appreciates good, friendly service in a comfortable environment, don't expect that at Professor Thom's.

Where can I begin. I can't!!! Just go there and see for yourself. The food is great, the bartenders go that extra mile. You need to watch your game, they will have it on for you. The owners are great fun and the beer selection is worth staying for. And the upstairs is a great place to hang out. Not alot of smoking places left in New York, but I have found my favorite smoking balconey in the city. Kudos to these guys. I found a new home and just moved with a long lease. Thank you

This is by far my favorite bar - since it opened I've been there at least once or twice a week. The bartenders and owners rock - they are friendly, and funny, and incredibly generous with their pours...Plus, being a Sox fan in New York City can be brutal at times - Professor Thom's is a happy little oasis in the midst of enemy territory. The Red Sox game is always on (though there are at least 8 TVs so you are bound to catch your favorite team on at least one of the TVs). "Wednesday Night Bingo" is wicked fun complete w/ prizes for winning, and free shots anytime the caller calls 0-sixty nine. The food is great - esp. the fried mac & cheese and the fries but even the salads and veggie burgers are delish. Now that baseball season is winding down, I am looking forward watching Sunday football holed up at Professor Thom's. Go now and bring friends. This place rules.

By far the best bar in the east village...I went there with some friends one night to play bingo and watch the sox game and it was a blast! Every time "0-sixtynine" is called the bartender buys everyone drinks! Been there lots since and its always a good time. Great draft and bottle selection and the pizza rocks. Definitely has one of the best jukebox's i've seen in a long long time.

Every neighborhood has a few great local bars that are the best secrets. In Grammercy/Union Square/East Village this is my neighbors and my favorite spot. The music is great, no night better or worse, the bar tenders are generous with the pouring, and the lighthearted atmosphere will lifts you spirits. Seriously, you can't go wrong, if it is unpretentious local fun you seek. Oh, and the cheese fries are awesome!

Professor Thom's is a great new spot in the village--there is always a fun crowd at night or for happy hour, and it is a great spot to watch the game anytime.
