AWFUL customer service. Rude owner. 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Being pregnant I had to freeze my account for 6 months. I wasn't told that I still would be charged a ''freeze" fee of $15 a month. Being on a freeze for medical reasons cost me more than canceling my membership and re-joining when capable of coming back!
I talked to the owner, Vicky, and she is just rude, unhelpful and not accommodating. She refuses any refund as I should have know by reading the website (while I talked to 3 different staff members and was NEVER told about any future charges!).
I will not recommend this place to anyone.

Well maintained, good yoga classes 4 Star Rating - Very good

I mainly go to the yoga classes here, which I have found to be quite good. Yes, weekend classes can be crowded. Weekdays are rarely crowded, and the downstairs gym is often nearly empty at lunchtime. There is a good variety of equipment and weights, and it's clean and has nice daylight.

Pros: Facility, View, Yoga classes
Cons: No pool

Sound Mind and body Gym 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

This place has the most unfriendly staff for such a beautiful place. There have been few if any occasions a front desk staff smiles or is at all friendly. Some of the trainers are so aloof that, if you get up the courage to ask a question, you walk away feeling inferior. There is a great view of the ship canal which is the only redeeming quality of the place. All of the yoga classes are full to the point you have to always be aware of where the person next to you is so you don't bump into them. The ski conditioning class ratio is about 50 members to two instructors who offer absolutely no support if you have any kind of injury. Finally, be sure to bring an ipod or something because they blast crappy music all through the club- even the locker room- so don't expect a peaceful sauna or steam... the bass is so loud it shakes the walls. Oh yeah, don't count on a parking spot in the evening- the lot is always full.

Pros: great view
Cons: unfriendly staff, loud music

Best Gym In Town 5 Star Rating - World class

I have never been to such a great facility. First and foremost it's right on the water and every piece of cardio has a view! Thier area for free weights is HUGE! Not to mention they have all the stuff that I always need that no other gym has like plyo boxes and a dedicated dead lift platform. So anyway the facility itself rocks, but above and beyond that I really dig the staff. When I was on the initial tour of the facility the membership guy gave me a brief breakdown of some of the trainers there and thier qualifications, after we were all done with the tour I did my due dilligence and checked out what he had told me and dig this -

Joe Palumbo - former strength conditioning coach for the Cleveland Browns
Tim Sinnet - top 100 trainers in the nation by Mens Health and Fitness
Tony Held - specializes in outdoor activity and just got back from manchupechu
Mike Sielo - reviewed by everyone that I talked to in the area as the guy to go to to get stronger and faster

- I guess that in the end it was just nice to know that the staff was more than a couple of kids with two week certifications that are going to try and sell me a bunch of stuff that I don't really need. Icing on the cake was that the front desk girls are HOT! and super cool. So anyway I recommend this place, it's seriously so cool its almost stupid.

Pros: staff, facility, parking, location, basketball, 50 + classes a week
Cons: only open from 5am to 10pm

Not worth the high price 3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

SM&B completely relies on its great facility to charge exorbitant fees and provide few services/amenities. The equipment for weight lifting is great, and the studios are lovely, but the classes are terrible and there is never anyone on the floor to help or answer questions. It seems that the class instructors pick up classes for extra cash in addition to their "real" jobs, and so are not invested in making the class a great experience for members. Also, complaints to the management fall on deaf ears. In short, if you only lift weights, this is a great place for you (though still overpriced compared to comparable gyms), but if you take classes or appreciate amenities (like towel service), you would be better served elsewhere. Also, the hours are very limited- the gym closes at 7 on weekends and on the early side on weekdays, too.

Pros: ambience, facility
Cons: no amenities, apathetic instructors, limited hours
