What a rip off! Limited knowledge of the trade, "taken" for a ride, BAD  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Wow, simply the worst option in Berkeley for bike shops (unless you're looking at Karim's, BAD VIBE there).

Really must better options around Berkeley.

On the otherhand, the employees have to wear HOT vests (look out ladies =)

But ... yeah, I found a much better deal at Missing Link and great bike stuff at Jitensia (sp?) Studio (though way out of this student's pirce range).

Missing link also build up a set of wheels for me, great deal (gave me the labor for free because they were simply interested in the project!).

Get a Jamis bike, they're really great and offer steel frames which are more comfortable though a little heavier.

A fan in general, not sure of Berkeley  3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

In general, I am a fan of Mikes bikes and have found the staff at their other locations to be very helpful and smart. I have found Berkeley to be a bit hit and miss, maybe because they employ college kids to work there.

TOTALLY RUDE HORRIBLE SERVICE, DO NOT STEP FOOT HERE! 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

From my 1st call- UTTER RUDENESS
From my 1st time in the store- amateur attitudes and being rushed out. A general negative atmosphere in the store- I'm guessing top management is corrupt and it is trickling down.
Lazy, rude, unmotivated staff, I felt so unbelievably ignored and the service was probably the worst I have ever received in any retail store in my life, I just could not believe it.
Bikes are not like fast food...you need a salesperson willing to educate you, be patient, and give quality service. Compare this place to Pacific Bikes in San Francisco and you will see why Mike's Bikes needs to go out of business.
Do yourself and favor and do NOT GO HERE!!!!!!

Pros: Close to my house
Cons: Service, Overall experience

Others can do better 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I should have read the prior review before buying a bike here.

The same problem happened with the shop wanting to move a demo bike. When I purchased the bike, I stated that the demo was not wanted and was told that a new bike would be ordered from the warehouse. When we returned to pick up the bike, the tires were visibly ridden. The fellow stated it was new and didn't agree until I pointed to the sale tag still attached from when we bought the bike ( the sale had ended so the sale tag/bike was from that sale). I declined on the demo bike and was told the new bike would be ordered. When I picked up the bike, the tires looked the same but no telltale tags. It being a demo was denied. Surprisingly, one of the in-store bikes that we originally saw was not up in the loft. Makes one wonder.

The final decision to write this review was decided after trying to set up an adjustment appointment during the initial 90 days. The front derailleur was out of adjustment from day one. My wife called and tried to set up a Saturday appointment. She was quickly told to hold. Another person answered and the response was very short and rude, 'no appointment'. After asking when the next appointment was available and told it was Thursday, she asked for the next Saturday appointment. Now the fellow says Saturday appointments aren't given. Would have been nice if he stated that with the first Saturday request. She was treated rudely throughout the conversation. They weren't even aware of the fact that this was a bike with an earlier concern. Imagine how they would have responded if she brought up the demo issue. An adjustment will not be done at this store with this type of service.

A bad experience as a whole. Outside of the original salesperson, at no point did the store show any quality customer service.

Pros: sale prices
Cons: bad service

Buyer beware 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I was just about to buy a bike from them when all of a sudden they wouldn't order the bike that i wanted. Can you believe it??? I didn't want the demo that I just rode since it was probably tested by other cyclists. Once they started QUESTIONING me of my reasons of why I wouldn't buy the demo and that I would have to pay for shipping if it was ordered was enough for me. I went to another dealer that day and bought the bike from them with no problem. The bottom line is don't let them dictate to you that you should buy the demo, stick to your guns.

Pros: Staff knolwedge, Good parking, Location to test bike
Cons: Poor salesmanship
