I used to think Providence 57 was an upscale place. As someone living uptown, I really appreciated having a real dance club a short cab ride from the UES. I now have come to feel disappointed and even angered by the attitude coming from the staff. The guy who takes your $20 at the door doesn't even look at you, say thank you or respond if you say "hello." The drag-queen who stamps your arm is surprisingly rude. If fact, this past week, "she" carelessly stamped my palm without even looking at me or where "she" was stamping. I said, "Please stamp my wrist, I expect to go in and out of the club." "She" proceeded to stamp up my forearm multiple times and make a hand gesture for me to "run-off now, I'm done with you." Combine these two characters with bartenders that serve you when they want to acknowledge you, makes going there a disappointment. It saddens me really that the owners don't seem to value a good customer and allows employees to act the way they do. If you're going to run an upscale club, or any club for that matter, employees need to be trained to interact with respect.

I have been to this club a few times and have never been disappointed. Most recently, was there last night. Loved the music! Other things, like prices for cover and drinks, i think are typical club prices. The drinks are made well, and not watered down like i've experienced elsewhere. Granted, i always get there early enough to avoid cover charges and huge lines, so i dont know what happens at that time of the night outside, but inside is a good time :)
Oh my only issue was that a few of my friends had called and were told no jeans or sneakers for guys, but yet there were guys wearing jeans and sneakers(and not classy "prada" sneakers either!!!)!

i wish i saw the reviews b4 i planned my b-day party here.Ok so i contact promoter Philip D. regardig Duvet or Taj and he recommends Providence saying its very upscale and promising many things. There would be no wait in line (10+ppl on guestlist gets a Free Bottle),my date and myself would be Free all nite long, My guestlist guys free til 11:30 &$20 after and females free til 1Am. A bunch of Lies, Lies, amd more Lies. Before i arrived i was already receiving calls from my guests who were saying the club was charging them at the door, mind you it was only around 11pm. when i arrived around 11:30pm i went straight to the door where i was told to get on line. when i explained i was having a party there they didnt care, just told me to get on line.As im walking to the line with some of my guests they tell one of them they couldnt come in because he had on jeans mind you im watching them allow ppl on line get in with jeans & bcuz they are wearing converse and they're white or asian and not african american wearing pradas its within dress code. Im arguing with the (cater to white and asians) black short guy about the dress code policy which the promoter said jeans were allowed. Im kept asking for Philip D. and no one seems to know who he is.So i get on line with my other guests when another bouncer comes and tell me and all of my guest to get off line. Im thinking ok maybe they are going to escort us inside. NOT!!!We step off the line and stand on the side as the bouncer and telling me we now have to pay $30 each or we arent getting in. MY guestlist now doesnt exist and they dont know who the promoter is. One of my guest come outside and tells me the promoter is inside and has my guestlist but that the manager told him not to come outside and that he doesnt want to get involved. Now im flipping out and calling the promoter myself who is not responding of course. the manager finally showed her big haired self and tells me they are not honoring my guestlist and that she informed the promoter to contact me to cancel my reservations because my guestlist had too many ppl. WTF!!! when have you ever heard of that??? 1st my guestlist didnt exist now i have too many ppl, which one is it. Mind you its now almost 12:30 and most of my guest are inside. so after arguing with the manager i decide that i will go inside alone and meet with my guest that are already inside. When i get on line they tell i am not allowed entrance to the club.WTF!!! They made me sooo irate I thought i was going to jail that night for sure...WE wind up going to another club but my night was ultimately ruined....Im really comtemplating filing a small claims suit....Worse club of All......Definitely......

I live in the neighborhood and have been here many times with tourist guests and just my girlfriend, it is amazing. You have no idea how beautiful it is inside from the sidewalk, but the place is huge! The food has been excellent every time I've dined, and it is extremely reasonably priced, the prix fixe is 40$ or something and available on the weekends, which is unusual, but good if you're just hungry. The only thing is that they don't seat very late on the weekends, due to their club that opens later, but I like the club also, so it's no big deal. Seems to be getting a rap from some clubbers and people who want 3 courses in 60min, but it's definitely a great restaurant, especially for the area.

I booked my birthday here with a club promoter: JAMES SCOTT. We talked about a week in advance about the whole event and he told exactly what i should expect, which was: my own guestlist, free bottle of champagne (since i had 10+ people), and no waiting in line when we arrive. WELL, NONE OF THIS WAS GRANTED. I arrived with my friends at 11pm went to the bouncers and told them i booked my party here and had a guestlist..they told me they didnt know the club promter and didnt care that it was my bday and to get in line like everyone else! They were extremely rude and kept yelling "i dont care who you know or who you're with get in line". SO my friends decided to get in line while i called Mr. Scott to complain bc WTF?! its my birthday! He tells me his sidekick JEN will come out and get me. SO..while we're waiting for Jen to come out which takes forever..we manage to get to the front of the line. The short bouncer starts flirting with my friend and because i was upset that NOTHING WAS GRANTED AS PROMISED AND BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMLY RUDE BOUNCERS i said "yea she likes midgets anyway"...and well that was a wrap. He said "get off the line..no one is getting in" FINALLY this Jen girl comes out and i tell her the story and instead of helping me she just chilling with me and my friends!!!
Worst experience in NYC club...ive been to a lot better places...tenjune, mansion, guesthouse and have never been treated like that. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS FOR PARTYING AND ESPECIALLY FOR BIRTHDAYS. AND IF JAMES SCOTT AKA J.SCOTT INVITES YOU....RUN!!!!!

Well how can I start this? I am a person (leaving name out) of importance in PA
I made reservations to Providence around 8:30. I loved how eloquent it looked and the privacy me and my wife had here. We sat down and looked over the menu. Since we just came from Stout's and had a little snack and drinks before Providence we decided that we would take the 3 course meal. I would eat the main dish and she would eat an appetizer. She gets the appetizer which was done fancy but my wife didn't like it because they used some kind of mayonnaises on the salad. The time was around 8:50 when she got the salad. I ordered her some calamari, which came out in 7 minutes and was good. We had some drinks and around 9:35 I finally got my barbeque chicken (1 hour and 5 minutes later after a RSVP). Anyway I cut the chicken and it had no flavor and tasted like it wasn't done. I immediately told the waitress after I had a bite to eat, that it had no flavor and it tasted like it wasn't cooked. Here is the kicker, she asked me if I wanted anything else and I declined. She brings me the check 10 minutes later and walks away immediately. I look at the check and they gave me a discount on 1 drink (yes 1 drink free). When she comes back over I ask her to speak to the manager. A manager comes to the table 10-15 minutes later, being real cocky. I tell him about all the events you just read. He tells me I have eaten all the food here and it tastes fine to me. I go back and forth with him about his taste, which are not like mine and don't you and should you always agree with the customer and show some respect to them if they have a complaint. I was ready to walk out the whole place but paid my bill anyway because I didn't want to get arrested in NY. But I will say this, would I recommend anyone to eat at the lavish, expensive restaurant. THE ANSWER IS HELL NO.

PS: The only good thing about this place is, the CLUB was excellent and I had a ball with my wife.

One of New York?s best restaurant.....I love it. The service was superb. Food is exceptionally presented & prepared. When I first walked into the restaurant, I wasn't very impressed with the decor,it's very simple. But when you enjoy the first dish you'll love this place!
I ordered the curried lobster tail, the best lobster ever had before.
It is a MUST place to celebrate a special occasion. like we did!

Here the story goes..
I emailed a promoter to help me set up a party of 20 (mixed guys and girls) where everyone can get in free. I originally planned to go to Duvet but the promoter steered us to go to Providence where they do not have the annoying guy/girl ratio policy and that all my guests from my guestlist can get in free and even cut the line before midnight. On that night, a bunch of us got there at 10:30pm. I got in line first and the rest of my friends were behind me and then heard the guestlist lady say "all of us are comped". Cool. until afterwards, my few of my guy friends said they actually paid $20. I was really upset so I went to the lady and asked why my friends paid.. and she goes "well we can't guarantee you what the promoter said..it's the management's discretion.. plus your guy friends were wearing jeans and they didnt' have dates". I was thinking "wtf", and told her what the promoter had offered us and even showed her his email from my blackberry.. then she said when the promoter gets here.. she'll see what she can do.. i knew the promoter was gonna be there any minute but i still waited for 15 minutes.. to give them some time.. so i went out.. and foudn the promoter.. then he was giving me the same BS.. like he didnt konw they'll change the policy.. it's total BS. BUT he said he'll give me a free bottle of liquor in 15 minutes and come down to look for me..that cooled me down a little and then to realize not only did my other friends who came afterwards STILL paid $20 but he didn't come down to look for me.. and this was after an HOUR.. so i went up to complain again.. and told the lady to have the rest of my friends comped and she goes "i have been nice to you.. but you are starting to annoy me" first off she has NOT been nice even when we first got there.. to end this story. i finally did get my free bottle after endless complaints..

Cons: Very poor service; dishonest/shady policy; Small drinks; Crowd is below average looking.

Providence is such a unique place and I haven't been anywhere in NYC like it. I had a great experience with the staff and they were very accommodating. Music was unbelievable - There are two dj's spinning in two rooms so you get the best of both worlds! Who could ask for more.

I just recently had a birthday party here with a guest list of about 60. This was confirmed several times with a promoter over the course of the last few months. When we arrived, we were made to wait outside while they cleared out some of the people that were there for a party before mine, no big deal- They said they would extend our hours as we had open bar for 3 hours for $45. Anyways, once they started to let us in they would only let in 10 people at a time and once I, the host was inside the bar, they stopped letting in other guests that were on my list and told them they needed to wait on the regular line which of course wasn't moving!! So several of my guests were turned away. Once we were inside, the female bartender on the top floor was extremely rude to us and would barely serve us. When you asked for shots, she would state that they were not included in the special (which we already knew) and then walk away from us when we were willing to pay for the shots- BAD SERVICE!!!! I would never plan another party there nor would I go back as the drinks are very expensive and the bartender really turned me off!!

Four of us ( two couples) went for my Birthday. I'm a fashionable, good looking thirty something, a born and raised New Yorker that did alot of clubbing in the early 00's. I'm a chef. The service was clean and elegant looking, the waiter was efficient. There was a warm yet opulent feeling to the main dining room. Drinks were strong ( a plus in my circle!). Two of us had the fixed menu, and had the mussles, which were slammin', and the Seared Tuna- verry good. Everything else we had was all outstanding. The owner came over and was friendly. We went downstairs. I just wanted to dance, and really wasn't concerned about people watching, (I absolutely refused to wait on any line, as I never, ever did when I was clubbing!) The music was sufficient, yet not overly impressive, and I thought it could've had a more decipherable difference between floors, as the evening progressed. We took off -overly confident that we'd get in somewhere else - uhh... we ended up back there in 30 minutes, and we walked right back in, with no problem because we were there for dinner (there was a line outside, but not for us!) All in all, the night was a success, and I highly reccomend this place to eat, and drunkin dancing with friends! (Lots of dark corners for being a little naughty!) ( Did I just write that??)

by all the negativity. I've been here four times, three for the club and once for the restaurant and I've always been impressed by the place. The security there has never given me a problem, but then I've never given them a reason to. I typically go for table service with six or so people, and each time it was quick and easy. The crowd and staff is pretty good looking, the DJ's have rocked every time, so I love the place. It's a bit far uptown for me, but that's not a real issue. And the restaurant was beautiful and food excellent. I work in the industry in Manhattan, and consider this place a real success.

It is my first and last time going to club providence. I am surprised that such a sh*t hole can stay in business in NYC. The music s*cks, the drinks are watered down and the
bouncers look like crackheads. Go at your own risk!!!

whatever you do, do not go, or try to host a party at providence / triumph room. these guys were the worst most unprofessional a-holes that i've ever met. guestlists and everything were sent in ahead of time, and confirmed twice. but when we got there, they said the guestlists were overbooked, and made everyone wait outside in the line (hour plus wait, in the freezing rain). even the person who's party it was, they wouldn't let in. the manager and bouncers were pretty rude, and pretty arrogant. all that tag line about "no more velvet ropes, for people who just want to dance." is the biggest piece of crock out there. they had velvet ropes with everyone forced to stand outside (hour plus), in the freezing weather. most peope just gave up and went home. so if you are planning on throwing a party that is meaningful at all to you, don't go to this place because they are going to absolutely ruin it. this is bar none the worst club/venue that i have been to in new york city.

I went for a friends birthday and we were on her guest list. the line was OUTRAGEOUS and after waiting for almost an hour, it hadn't budged. i found my friends closer to the front who had been there for TWO hours. after all that, we had to pay $20 because the guest lists were "over".

All of this would be understandable if the place was at all packed. We went down into the nightclub section and it could actually be described as "empty." Drinks were astronomical and the $75 minimum for credit/debit (plus an automatic 20% gratuity) was completely ludicrous. The music downstairs was mediocre, and upstairs it was slightly beter but still not even close to making up for the drawbacks of this place. All I could think about was everyone outside being forced to wait, expecting a full, exciting, fun club and how disappointed they'd be, once the bouncers deigned to let them in.

I did a little research on the place before I went and by the looks of the pictures on the website I thought it would be a sure great night out. It looked like a great club to celebrate a special occasion. However the line was rediculous and although my boyfriend was celebrating his birthday there and we were on the guestlist, we waited over 2 hours to get in. The bouncers were rude and the promoters gave preference to the people who were willing to buy bottles to get in. I THOUGHT THE GUESTLIST IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE LEVERAGE, BUT I GUESS I WAS WRONG! We weren't the only ones disappointed, everyone on the guestlist line was ranting and raving on how unfairly we were being treated. The line for the people buying bottles was empty and we were still waiting on line. When we finally got in (at 2:30am) we still had to pay $20 for females and $30 for males which is full price. Althought the place had a great ambience, the wait put a dampen on my mood. I ended up leaving 45 minutes later. What a waste of my money and my time!

I came her for my hubbie's 30th with a group of 14 on Friday night. We did not go to the restaurant, we went to the nightclub. I had a WONDERFUL time. The music was great -- they had a room with Hip Hop, R&B, reggae, etc. Downstairs they had latin music - Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, etc. We danced all night and it was great. It was crowded, but not so crowded that you felt like you couldn't move. The ambience was fabulous too. I love how the place is decorated and I couldn't believe how friendly the bouncers were! They even wished my husband a happy birthday. I usually hate bouncers but I actually liked these. They weren't all full of themselves, which was great. I recommend this place and will be back!!!!

I was attending this club for my friend's birthday and was DENIED entrance becuase they had seen me changing into my nice shoes. My friends both came out to reason with the bouncers and they said no go! We were on a list and it was this kids birthday for godsakes! And this bouncer that denied me entrance was wearing BRIGHT RED Sneakers, as if its ok to dress casual when clearly this is not that type of place. First, I find this hypocritical, and second, to be sending the wrong message. So if you feel wasting your time waiting on line just to be judged by a punk bouncer in red kicks, you got it right here!

totally amazing is how i would sum up my evening at providence. went there with my husband and the food is just out of this world. we had these vegetable goat cheese cakes and steak that melts in your mouth. the braised short ribs were flavorful and plentiful for an appetizer, the bread pudding is better than sex. as we were leaving we noticed that there was music coming from the room on the lower level. it was the triumph room nightclub and we had so much fun dancing all night.

My husband threw me a fabulous surprise 30th birthday party on Saturday night and everything was perfect! The restaurant is beautiful with a very romantic and stylish ambiance. Our party of 30 began with cocktails and delicious passed hors d'ouevres in the balcony lounge and continued in the upstairs private dining room replete with full bar and lounge area for an elegant sit-down dinner. The tables were set gorgeously with candles and a printed menu at each seat. Guests had 4 choices of appetizer (3 different salads or calamari) and entree (halibut, spinach ravioli, roasted chicken and filet mignon)all were delicious! The dessert selection was a chocolate-lovers dream! The excellent service enhanced the sophisticated atmosphere. Marcello was a gracious host who escorted our guests downstairs to a reserved alcove in the club and the party continued into the night. What a great venue! Thanks again to everyone at Providence!

Providence is definitely NYC's hidden treasure. It gives such a warm and intimate feeling - very romantic. They have a great priced prix fixe dinner (3-course dinner for $35)...can't beat that! The staff is extremely pleasant with a wonderful attitude -- we didn't want to leave! So we didn't - after dinner, we went down to the nightclub where we continued into the night. Perfect place for everything - one stop dining & dancing.

I am so happy I took the advice of a radio stations recommendation to visit this restaurant. To begin my visit I entered into a most beautiful atmosphere. From the hostess who seated my partner and I for cocktails, to our waiter Lasco, everything was perfect. Wine choices were made to compliment our meal; the manager Sal was delightful and very professional as he visited each guest to ensure their satisfaction, and our food from appetizer to entrée was to die for.
I live in New Fairfield, CT so you can imagine a city event is a well-planned venture, and this restaurant will be visited again as well as recommend to my friends who like fine dinning with resonable prices. Thank you again Providence staff - you and your restaurant are a win win situation. Sincerely, SJS

Midtown was needing a place like Providence. Amazing food, attentive staff and great ambiance all makes Providence great for a date. My boyfriend flipped out over the raw bar and the steak was grilled perfectly. We are so pleased, we're thinking of having a large group dinner for our friends. Definitely need to check this place out!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Providence. I arranged a birthday party for 20 people in the main dining room and the experience was flawless. The table was ready before we arrived, the service was great and the food was delicious. Sal, the maitre d', took outstanding care of us from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. After dinner I reserved a table downstairs for bottle service and was given a larger area than I had requested. Our waitress in the Triumph Room was very attentive and we even received a bottle of champagne from Sal as a thank you for our business. I would highly recommend as an all-inclusive, great night out!

If youre planning on celebrating a special occasion with a group of friends I recommend dinning at Providence. The Major D, Sal is personable & most accommodating. He catered to our partys every need. The menu had something for everyone, such as: seafood, steak and pasta; affordable prices with portions that wont make you leave hungry. The ambiance is fancy during dinning hours turned trendy; Providence turns into a club, Triumph (two other floors open up). Our entire group was granted free admission to the club, it was great not have to try to get 12 people into a club/lounge after dinner; hence the review title. Ive been going out in the city for thirteen years; I consider myself to be a tough critic however this past Saturday I was impressed. My friends kept complimenting me all night for an incredible evening and all I did was make a reservation!

This is a fantastic place. We are familiar with the Chef's reputation from way back and were anxious to try her new venture. I wasn't prepared for the stunning atmosphere, so grand and cozy at the same time, very special for this part of the city. The food was as magnificent as we had hoped, service friendly and helpful, well-timed. The whole experience worked to make an enchanting evening for my small group of friends. To prove my point, there was a wedding proposal at the next table! (She accepted...)

We were lucky enough to get invited for New Years Eve and WOW this place was amazing! I couldn't believe it was the old Le Bar Bat we had grown up on. The space was so fantastic that once we heard they were serving dinner we decided to go one night and try it out. We've been back 3 times since - the food and the experience(s) just keep getting better!

There isn't a place like this in the city. Walking into the place seems like your walking into a lobby of a hotel...but once you get to the end of the hallway and see the dining room..it's quite a surprise. It looks like it used to be a church with it's high ceilings. The food was unbelievable. Each dish was better than the next. On my way out, I booked my next reservation.

Through a recommendation of a friend, we recently went to Providence for dinner. The place is breathtaking. Not until seeing the rafters did I realize this was the same place that I used to go to when I was younger...Le Bar Bat. What a big transformation! The food in itself was something to rave about. The homemade pasta (i'm speechless!). It's my new found favorite restaurant! I can't wait to go back.
