I stumbled upon this East Midtown gem when I considered getting someone I recently met (at the time) a gift certificate for her birthday, but when I heard the price for the mani/pedi package I quickly scurried away and opted for something more in the "new friend" price range. I however went back a few months later to treat myself for a mani/pedi on one of those "I only have $20 bucks left in my account but what the hell, I deserve this" days and I fell in love! I have no problem pampering and spending when it comes to me! They're not anymore expensive than any other place I've been to in the city so don't get thrown off by that earlier statement. You get what you pay for right?!

The atmosphere is relaxing and upscale. I love the layout of this place, kinda serene. You dont feel the hustle and bustle of midtown and its not a quick and cheaply done mani. I am a loyal person/customer once I find something that I like and love there is no getting rid of me; ive been going here for about 3 months now. I used to go to another establishment in Chelsea for over 7 years but hopping the train to shuttle over to the west side and head downtown after work to then go back uptown (to go home) was kinda draining and turned me off from getting mani's as frequently; so when I found this place it was a GOOD DEAL right in the area of my job and if I say so a better experience overall. Seven years compared to 3 months c'mon! Honestly speaking, going back on what I just said about having to train it around town to get to my old nail salon, I think no matter what area I was in, in the city I would make my way over to Spa Butterfly because I love the job that they do that much. I have a regular lady that I see at Spa Butterfly (I wont say her name cause I want her ALL to myself) who I just love, she gets it right EVERY time...when I ask for SQUARE I get SQUARE as if they were lean press on nails and not rounded-square or whatever the hell she feels like doing. She takes good care of me and is very sweet (even tho she barely speaks English, but still you can tell). So in conclusion head on over to Spa Butterfly, its worth it!!!

This Spa is run by Ms. Kara the manager. One of my best manicurists has been fired from that place because of retaliation. I have witness how she treat her employees. I advised my manicurist to complaint to the owner and the next thing, she got fired. This is retaliation!!! She has informed me that that Kara is cruel, they have one sick day a year, and they cannot bring certain food to the job, and verbally abuse them. I guarantee I am no the only client that have notice this injustice. The manicurist also told me that they work over 50 hour a week and they made them sign a paper stating that they only work 40 hours. I will report this to the department of labor to have this place investigated!!!!!

Since spa butterfly is close to my job, I enjoy popping in here for a last minute manicure. They have an exceptionally clean, serene facility. They place your belongings in a basket next to your station. The nail technicians open new packets when giving you a manicure. I recently treated myself to one of their mini packages and for the first time had a pedicure and chair massage with them. It was fantastic. Their pedicures are super thorough and relaxing. And the massage I had was with one of their male massage specialists and it was fantastic. I only gave it 4 stars because I miss the lavendar neck rolls they used to give you while you received your manicure. And their prices could be a little more reasonable, but its worth the indulgence.

My manicurist is out of town for a month and I decided to use the time to search out other options in the city as I figure it is probably a good idea to have a back up place to get my nails done so after reading reviews for several places I decided to give Spa Butterfly at try...

Note, my bias is against large factory type nail salons which is definitely how I would describe Spa Butterfly. Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful space and looks relatively clean; I liked how they open a new package of equipment for each client. The online reservation system worked well and my technician (I believe her name was Sylvia) was ready and waiting for me when I arrived 10 mins. early.

All of that said, there is something very impersonal about the place and thought I can't say my manicure was horrific I am looking at my nails this morning, 48 hrs. after getting my manicure, and they don't look like they were professionally done. I believe I read in another review that someone suspected they thin their polishes I am might be willing to second that opinion. I have a bottle of the color I picked out and the color looks different on my nails than it normally does. Overall, I just don't feel the products they use in general are top quality and thus lead to a mediocre outcome.

Terrible Service! I received a manicure from Spa Butterfly last year after receiving a gift certificate from my employer. The manicure was excellent; however, the customer service was terrible. The manicurist was rude but did a great job on nails.

This week I was in the lurch and really needed a fill in for my UV Gel tips. I normally get them done in Brooklyn and only had them put on 2 weeks ago and should have waited but I had an important day today and wanted to make sure they looked nice. I don??t know my manicurist name since she didn??t have a name tag on like the other manicurist but she was really unfriendly and when she asked me what I needed I explained all I want is the clear UV gel fill in, have my nails cut slightly shorter and that I want the gel to be a thin layer. It was like she didn??t listen to a word I said and completely ruined my nails!

I had plenty of the white tip to work with? I only wanted them to be a little shorter, however, she cut the white part completely off and asked me after she cut the first nail if she cut it too short. I told her yes that I wanted them longer however she continued to cut the next two fingers really short. After I already explained to her that it was too short. She told me she would put extension on to fix it at no additional cost. She then proceeded to mumble to herself and left me waiting while she went in the back to talk to one of her coworkers for 10 minutes. When she returned I told her I have been getting fill in??s for years and never had someone do this and she told me her way is easier and faster. So figuring she was a professional I let her continue (What a mistake!) She did a really messy job and put a really thick layer of clear lumpy gel on my nails and had to redo the white french portion because she cut all of them uneven. When she finished they looked terrible and I told her that they look really messy and the white french was thicker on my left hand then my right. She didn??t say anything and just told me to go pay at the front desk. Since I didn??t want to make a scene at the chair I went over to the front desk and she told me the total was $85. After reading on their website UV Gel fill in??s were $70 I don??t know where the additional charges she could have added on to my total. When I asked the front desk receptionist she told me that was the price and that she couldn??t do anything because the manager left for the day. I have never had such a terrible job and still get charged a crazy amount for it. I will not be returning to Spa Butterfly and hope this review helps others.

Cons: Customer Service, Attitude, Terrible with UV Gel

My family and I was spending time in the City when I DH decided to give me a little break from the kids (a Godsend). So I took advantage of it.
I work in the UN / Grand Central area and went to my regular nail salon but they were closed on the weekends.
I remembered a co-worker mentioning SPA BUTTERFLY so I walked over to 44th and Lexington and YES, they were OPEN.
This was my first time here and I was AMAZED. It was not like a typical nail salon where it's just straight with tables lined up. It was like being at a resort; warm and relaxing.
The manicurist was freindly and professional; very sincere. The whole staff was very courteous.
But, (this is why I gave 4 stars) it was done too quickly.
I was amazed that she was done so fast. Usually I would like to be pampered a little.

All in all, the nails came out great. My DH even notice the mani, which he usually doesn't.
Spa Butterfly is my new place.

Cons: Too quick

I had seen spa butterfly before since I only work two blocks away and had always wanted to see if I would like their services. After doing a quick google search, spa butterfly was the first spa to come up so, I thought I should take the opportunity and head over for a quick mani. I called at 4:!5 asking when I could come in and she told me to come in right away. Rightfully so because after about me being there for 5 minutes, the place got packed. I was definitely happy with my manicure and would recommend!

I went to Spa Butterfly as a spur-of-the-moment pre-birthday dinner treat to relax and get a massage. They were able to accomodate me quickly, so I was grateful they had an opening.

I told the massage therapist that I have sciatic pain, so she agreed to focus on it. And I must preface the rest of this review wit hthe fact that she was a very nice woman and it's not personal....

But she had NO IDEA how to do a deep tissue massage to begin with, and when she worked on my sciatica she completely exposed my buttocks and pulled them apart! It was so uncomfortable, exposing, and unprofessional. I've never known a therapist who completely exposes your whole backside and does not use the sheet to make you feel more comfortable.

I stopped her less than ten minutes in and told the management how uncomfortable and unhappy I was with the experience and they wanted to charge me $26 for "using the room." I was appalled and disgusted by their treatment of me. I eventually got them to void the transaction after ten minutes of pleading. I have never before asked for my money back for any service. It was humiliating, frustrating, and stressful and now I REALLY need a REAL massage. Never again. Avoid!

I have been coming to spa butterfly since the day it opened its doors, and I am sad to say that I will never return again. In fact, I simply can't make any kind of endorsement for this 'spa' (read upscale nail salon,) since my most recent incident. Today, while treating one of my favorite clients to a manicure, the manicurist jabbed me while trimming my cuticles and cut me!!! I was terrified, mortified and absolutely shocked. To be frank, I had not watched that closely to see how thoroughly my manicurist had disinfected her tools, because I was not anticipating being stabbed in the cuticle with them!!! She was wholly non-plussed by the whole affair and casually offered me some septic to stop the bleeding. Finally, I just cut short the manicure (after she had me pay!!!) and sat with my client while her nails dried.

When I asked to speak to the Manager I was told that she was not in the spa and would call me back tomorrow> the girls at the desk tried to assure that I was fine & that they cleaned the instruments, but neither even offered to refund my money (which frankly was the least of my concerns!)

My main grouse is this: they have lost that customer service approach which made them so popular to begin with! They are chronically overbooked, working too quickly and compromising service delivery, and often seem to be a true factory for manicures. They have simply grown too quickly to stay as true to who they are when they opened and now, frankly, I will never go back.

Be sure to consider this before booking your next appointment>

As for me, I have a nail covered in antibiotic cream, wrapped in a band-aid, $15 poorer for a manicure I never even got to get in its entirety! As I said, I will never go back to this nail salon~

I would come to this place sometimes for my lunch break or after work. When we would make reservations, it never seemed to matter to them. We still had to sit there and wait a long time. Also, when a friend asked for her nails to be cut the manicurists refused to do it. Isn't it policy to give the customer what they want?! Also, the past few times I have gone there my nail polish chips within like 2 days. I will never go back to this place, which is so sad. I used to think it was great and I don't know if they have just gotten popular and have stopped worrying about pleasing the customer.

I work right next to the spa, so getting manis and pedis at lunch is very convenient and relaxing. Or at least, it used to be.

I made an appointment this Monday for a friend and I to get manicures. When we got to the spa, there weren't enough technicians working, so we had to get our manicures one after the other instead of at the same time. Not a big deal (although annoying, because it meant we were late coming back to work). There was also another woman who had made an appointment, and had been waiting for over 1/2 an hour.

The woman who did our manicures rushed through the entire thing. The polish was sloppy and painted on to my cuticles. She also waited until just after she finished painting my nails before she asked me to pay, which meant I had to reach into my purse with semi-wet nails. The manicure was Monday-it was completely gone by Thursday. Not only was it chipping, it was peeling off in long strips.

I have been pleased with Spa Butterfly in the past, but if service and quality do not improve, I will certainly take my business elsewhere.

I got my nails done last week. The manicurist rushed to get her job done: she soaked my hands for just a minute or so and did a very poor job at trimming my cuticles, although I asked her to remove everything. She then applied nail polish over the cuticles... The nail polish chipped off a few days later.

Been there customer for the past 4 month, I loved it for thewre service compare to there price. I went there for a massage to relax my stress that I am getting at my work, but lately I feel like as soon as I walk in they are in a rush to take my money and get me out of that store. No more relaxation what so ever. I would ratere go down the block where it is cheaper for that kind of service. I am sure nobody wants to pay more for the same third class service that they are providing lately.

I recently went to Spa Butterfly and was VERY PLEASED!!!! I had a wonderful time. I went for a "warm stone" massage and it was the best I've ever had. I have tried others in the city and I have found the one I will be going to for years to come. The atmoshpere of the spa was a Tranquil Asian feel. The service was very customer friendly and all the staff I encountered were accomodating to your needs. As well as the ENTIRE spa was clean as a whistle!! I had a massage therapist by the name of Erika, and by the looks of this petite woman you would think she wouldn't have much strength but it was quite the opposite, she put me so at ease and really worked out the muscle aches that I had, I needed the relaxation more than she will ever know. When I left the spa I was so relaxed that I was somewhat discombobulated as to my next appointment, because I felt like I was on a cloud and had all my stresses taken away for one day at least.
I have recommended this spa to to others, and hope that they take me up on my suggestion. I hope to be able to go to the spa more than once a year as my "birthday" treat.
Thanks So Much, Very Much Enjoyed

Pros: Near Grand Central Station, so it was easy to get too.

Cons: The pedicures, are a little pricey.

This was the best massage I have had in Midtown and one of the best I have ever had--and I have had lots of massages. The place is very clean and serene with nice music playing and soft lighting. The rooms are very cozy and they have exceptional service. I went because it was spa week and only $50 for a 60 minute massage, but I will be back, often.

I have been going to this spa for a few months now because I found it friendly and professional. However, after a bad experience today I will not be going back. This is the only place I have had bikini waxes for the past few months and when I went 3 weeks ago, the price was $25 for a regular wax. Today, the price jumped to $45 because they told me it was a "semi-brazilian", which wasn't even on their price list, even though it was EXACTLY THE SAME wax as I have had the last few times I have been there. And they told me this when I was on the table half way through the wax. If it had been $45 all the way along I would have been happy to pay it but it have the price jump $20 is ridiculous. If they want to charge different prices they should regulate it and put it on their price list. I feel very sad that what I thought was a great place could feel justified in having such fluctuating prices for returning customers.

I go to Spa Butterfly regularly for manicures and pedicures, and have never once been disappointed. The staff is amazing, they are friendly, very accomodating, and make every person in the spa feel like they are the only person there. They are great at the services that they provide. The atmosphere is relaxing, comfortable, and completely sanitary. Once you go to Spa Butterfly, you'll love it so much, you'll never be able to go anywhere else!
If you are on a budget, I would highly recommend the Sea Salt pedicure, it's amazing! My mother even makes special trips down from Connecticut just to go to this spa, it's that wonderful!

I wrote a review back in February and had hoped that by now they would have gotten their act together. I've been going there now almost 2 years and have slowly watched as this place has deteriorated. The appointments are never honored; you always have to wait. Appointments are being botched up. Either there aren't enough technicians or they overbook and there aren't enough pedi chairs. Technicians are coming and going from here as if through a revolving door. My original technicial left back in January and I found another that was wonderful. Well now she's gone also. It seems that they can't keep the good technicians! The manicures are being rushed as are the pedicures. Now look; if I pay $75 for a pedicure, I expect the technicial to take her time and not rush because she has to go home. If the receptionist knew what her work hours were I should have been informed and offed the chance to reschedule.

So unfortunately, what was once an "oasis" for me and my friends now has turned into a dried up place; just a run of the mill salon. There definately isn't anything special about Spa Butterfly anymore.

So unfortunately, I have to fine another location.

I went to this spa, on the recommendation of a friend. WOW, this place is FABULOUS!!! I had a mami/pedi, a facial and a massage. Everything was great and the massage was exquisite! I can not
remember his name, but ladies, he is european, very good looking and his hands are AMAZING!! I
have a bad back and what he did for my back was absolutely sinful. I can not wait to return to New York next month for another massage from " Magic Hands", which is my name for him from now on. Talented, professional and great on the eyes, is the way to go. The whole experience was wonderful!! And my experience with "Magic Hands" as the highlight of the visit. I will be going back for sure!

if you are like me and get your nails and feet done once a year, youd best find a place that makes your annual pampering worth it. id highly recommend making SPA BUTTERFLY THE place to go for your annual pampering. i recently visited the spa and absolutely loved the decor. it felt like i was walking into a garden oasis. this spa does its best to treat each of its customers like QUEENS and whether you're getting a manicure or reshaping your whole body, you're treated the same. this is hard to find in nyc. the spa offers all sorts of treatments for all of your needs without a wait. come here to relax and escape for a while!

it was so great, i think ill upgrade from once to twice a year from now on :O)

i love the mani i just got here, but i think my favorite part of this place was that it was spacious and chill. i stopped in for a quick mani and even though it was a short period of time, it felt like getting away to another world. i'll be back soon when i need to relax.

I've gone to my share of places for a mani in this city and this one is worth the trek if you don't live in midtown and the money. The ambiance is great and you feel relaxed right when you enter. The space is cool and the best part is the lavender hot rocks they put on your shoulders as you get your manicure. top notch!

I had my bridal shower here and the service was fantastic. I have yet to see a spa in Manhattan that has a more inviting and relaxing atmosphere, and I was particularly impressed by the facilities of the spa. The decor made my bridal shower all the more memorable. I also tremendously enjoyed "Office Break #3," which includes a manicure, pedicure, and 10-minute massage for $51. It's a great deal and I recommend to anyone who is in need of serious grooming like I am. Ha!

in midtown, right next to grand central this hidden gem is the exact opposite of a hectic commute. on a quiet street you'll find this serene spa that pampered my friend and i with the best facials, manis and pedis we've ever had the pleasure of having. with a professional staff that is cordial and attentive, without being intrusive, and music that puts you peacefully to sleep, this spa is far better then the commercialized spa businesses of midtown. with extra bonuses like complimentary aromatherapy heat wraps while you get a pedicure and tea to sip on to warm up from the cold, i cant say enough good things about this experience. i have a bridal shower to plan in a few months and i already know where im making my reservation!

I am soooo happy I found this savory spot! I live right in the neighborhood. The only places that are around are the little nail shops and I always had to travel uptown for a facial. I didn't even know this spa was here...I just happened to walk by. I've already tried the manicure, pedicure, wax and facial. Like I said, I love it! This place is very serene and the prices are reasonable. I absolutely loved the Butterfly brief facial. I found my regular spot.

I didn't expect such a nice spa in midtown, but this one exceeds most expectations. Soothing, clean, and very nice decor - it was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of most spas, like Bliss. You definitely don't feel rushed there, and all of the services are really comprehensive. I went with 4 girls, we were all given attention, had massage, mani-pedi, and one of us had a facial. We are decided we're going to go there at least one month...perfect place to gather with your gal pals!

This saturday was my third time - twice mani-pedi and once facial. I was please during all three visits. The spa's decor is lovely, atmosphere is soothing and facility is clean which I think is very important. The staff is curteous and friendly. I was very delighted with the relaxing facial. I will definitely go back and recommend this spa.

Went in yesterday to get a mani-pedi, which came to $50 (including tax and tip). Experience was very nice. This is the second time I've been. All the facilities are clean and well taken care of since they are new. You receive a very nice lavendar neck wrap and complimentary drink with the pedicure, which is a nice touch. Technicians are very nice and helpful. I went after work and it was moderately busy, but nowhere near crowded. A very calming environment.
