Message from 33 Restaurant and Lounge

33 Restaurant and Lounge has become the benchmark destination in Boston for those who expect only the best. We feature a contemporary American menu, fusing traditional New England cuisine with hints of the exotic. Our flavorful menu has gained popularity for its versatility in vegetarian options as well as the ability for dishes to cater to dietary needs. Using the best locally grown produce, freshly caught seafood and home-made pastas, dishes don flavorful sauces that compliment each ingredient perfectly at 33 Restaurant and Lounge. Further accentuating the spirit of the carte du jour at 33 Restaurant and Lounge is the constantly changing and extensive wine list, featuring both American and international selections.

The Scene
The visually stunning layout draws a strong bar and lounge scene (dining room tables are easier to come by than bar stools). An omnipresent light show distracts patrons from their stylish house cocktails (apple sidecars, pomegranate margaritas), while diners stay focused on their meals. When the weather doesn't jibe with the outdoor patio, the fashionable Euro set heads downstairs to the dark, stylish lounge.

The Food
33's European-style offerings include a frisee and lardons salad, lobster gnocchi, and a butternut squash soup with lump crab meat. Entrees run the gamut from birch beer-braised short ribs, Norwegian salmon confit, and a classic chicken pot pie to a vegetarian entrée of porcini pasta, carrot "osso bucco" and a medley of spring beans with walnut oil. Warm individual carrot cakes, chocolate beignets and exotic homemade sorbets are just a few of the inviting desserts on offer.

Hits
The three-course, $33 prix fixe menu is offered at all times and presents a good bargain for scene-chasing diners.

Misses
On weekends, the bar scene starts to heat up after 10pm, causing late-night diners to occasionally contend with hectic crowds and prohibitive noise levels.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - While the dining area maintains a business-casual vibe, you'll want to dust off your most stylish duds when visiting the lounge.
  2. The Extras - Cap off a late night with some mini kobe burgers from an eclectic "bar bites" menu that's served until 11pm nightly.

Food good but not worth the hassle

by Beth C. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,060

I have been there twice and each time the service got worse. The drinks and the food are amazing but it's not worth the aggravation of uptight, unfriendly hostess and staff.I was kicked out of a table that I had a reservation for because the hostess needed the table and we weren't finished paying our $600 bill. She had the group waiting for the table I was sitting at physically stand at the end of the table to motivate us to leave. Not how I'd like to be treated after spending that amount of money.

Wonderful Decor, Food and service

by Greg D.

Thats all that needs to be said. They just introduced a new menu and it's wonderful!!!! My husband and I had a delicious Cod and Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon. Their wine selection is wonderful and our server was able to answer all of our questions! I love it when my waitress is knowledgeable - helps me come to a decision with ease.

THE WORST

by Quan Lee

Guaranteed diarreah.
We had coupon from restaurant-dot-com. The Prix-fixe menu was excluded so we ordered from September menu. Food was bad, service was bad and at the end, they refused to honor the coupon.

33 Restaurant is a rip-off.

Pros: NONE

Cons: BAD FOOD, BAD SERVICE, RIP-OFF

Good Happy Hour!!!

by FrugalFeaster

I went here last night for Happy Hour. The Mac&Chz = A- (AMAZING if you like garlic), Mediterranean Hummus Plate = B (you can't really mess up pita and hummus). These snack are a GREAT deal for $3!! The drinks are pricey, $9 was the cheapest glass of wine or $14 for a martini. The ambiance is very chic, with the was and bar changing color , due to lighting, every 5 minutes. There were very few customers though, but it was a rainy Wednesday at 6 :30 pm so I don't know if that's really standard.

-Boston's Frugal Feaster

Pros: Awesome Bar Snacks and Ambiance

Cons: Pricey drinks and not many customers

STAY AWAY

by tollhouse

The manager was just plain rude.

The calamari was terrible, sugary, mushy no springiness to it.

Avoid at all costs. Customer service is terrible. Don't pay for attitude and poor customer service in this economy, there are plenty of other places spend your money. Demand better folks, demand better.

Pros: nice lights

Cons: poor management, poor service, bad attitude, all around bad

fun outdoor deck

Nice atmosphere with a nice short menu. I recommend the martinis and sit outside on a summer day! It's a bit pricey, so be ready to spend about $100 for two.

Pros: Good outdoor seating and martinis

Cons: pricey

Terrible evening at 33

by CSMobileUser2

Feels like this place has become too trendy for it's own good. Waited 1 hour 45 minutes for our table. Were told several times that they were setting our table only to wait another 45 minutes. Finally when we were seated we were put directly in the line of the front door (on a January night when it was 20 degrees out). When we complained, the ma??tre de was unsympathetic and say that it wasn't his fault - the restaurant was simply too popular. Unbelievable. Will not go back.

hahaha

by sc17

after reading the review on this site me and my friends figured that this place was a great place to go.... boy was i wrong. we had made reservations and we were seated an hour after our reservation time... and to make things worse by the time we got served our food it was 11 at night and they had already dimmed the lights to the point where i couldnt even see my food, and started playing music so loud that we could not hear ourselves talk let alone to one another. the service was nothing special compaired to wat we paid and the drinks were not very good either... i was paying 12 a drink and i was not getting any alcohol in them... i would have to say the only thing that was good was the food...but it was hard to even enjoy that considering it was so loud and our table kept getting bumped by passer by's... and another thing the menu has very little to choose from and by the the we were seated and they came to take our order some of the stuff on the menu wasnt even available because of how late it was... all in all it was probably the biggest waste of time and money... i would have gotten better service at burgerking or wendys.....

sooo romantic!!

by tylerb

33 must be one of the most romanctic spots in Boston. dining there w/ my bf on our anniversary was a perfect evening. We started off by splitting a pitcher of the "white passion" sangria. We shared two entrees, the potato ravioli and the shrimp sebastian. Both meals were absoulutely delicious. Our waitress was great, attentive, but not overly attentive in that way that can be intrusive. The atmosphere was perfect for the occasion, so intimate, at times we felt like we were the only ones in there (we weren't though, it was very busy). We will definitly go back!

Pros: romantic, menu, ambience

seems like the bar staff has too much "fun"

by EllieNH

I know those that work in bars like to party, but they should be a little more discreet. Like the petite Asian gal with lots of eye liner who totally had white powder around her nostril when she was serving us martinis. Her and the blondish bartender were pretty jittery and not very attentive, joking around all night and being obnoxiously flirty with some of the patrons.

My girlfriend and I got a couple of drinks but lots of people were waiting and waiting. We didn't feel like bothering again when we finished so we left.

33 would be much better if they had a more professional staff. I don't care what you do after work, but the bartenders just didn't seem to care about actually working.

Pros: nice decor?

Cons: terrible bartenders

Great Prix Fixe Meal and Waitress!!!!

by saram83

Having found out through a friend that 33 offers a prix fixe menu all the time, I went to check it out. For $33 a person my friends and I had a really great meal. The main course was roasted duck legs, which I thought were excellent, but my vegetarian friend was less than excited about, our waitress (who was awesome!) understood my friend?s dilemma and was more than happy to substitute the duck for the potato ravioli option.

Pros: service, good for vegetarians, value, ambience,

Cons: none

This place was smoking...

by Brittanee

I've been to 33 quite a bit living in the area, but this last time I was served this delicious shot from the always more then helpful bar staff. The shot was smoking and was made with some citrus liquor called Ty Ku. I'm pretty sure it was called a Smoking Ty Ku Bamboo shot, one of the newer signature drinks I guess. Needless to say it was an experience. The theatrics matched the shot perfect, looked great and tasted better. I need to find some of that Ty Ku stuff. Oh yeah, and the bottle lights up when the bartender is holding it. Pretty cool.

WOOHOO to the NEW MENU!!!!

by sosabe

My boyfriend and I love the nightlife here and we occasionally dine when we can. This time we found ourselves looking at a whole new menu. I didn't mind either because I like CHANGE people! Anyhow, it was great. I had the Miso Sake Cod....to-die-for-delicious. My bf had the filet mignon wrapped in bacon - his two favorite things in this world (I come next in line). 2 thumbs up! We were happy customers.
MESSAGE TO 33: If you decide to change the menu again, leave the COD...it makes "MISO happy" ha!

Pros: Nightclub/lounge, New Menu, Cozy date spot

True Lounge!!! Hot club!!! - Food, not so hot...what's up with the cold burger!

by rickin

Hot Halloween party we had!!!!! I moved from Miami a few months ago,and I was damn surprised how Boston has NO cool lounges! - UNTIL - I found 33! Sorry 33, your food is not hot yo! My burger was just bad, but drinks were good. I've been to 33 two times and it's more a club than a restaurant it seems. If you guys want to experience a cool dance place with people who can actually spend money and not be cheap and complain all night, go to 33! You want cheap beer, go somwhere else. Just don't order the burger, then you will be happy.

Pros: DJ, bar, scene, hot people

Cons: slow appetizer, late dining

Mediocre food & terrible service

by kharris1211

I went here to celebrate a birthday. The service was unbelievably slow. We (6 ppl) were at the restaurant for over 3 hours, not by choice. About 2hrs into our experience, loud music came blaring out of the speakers. We were in a small dining room, still eating our meal, and another party of 15+ was in the room with us and they had just started on appetizers. The music was so loud, we basically abandoned conversation and tried to get out as fast as possible. However, someone had ordered from their prix fixe menu so we had to wait for dessert which took so long we were certain they must have run out of ingredients and gone to a grocery store in Maine.
The food itself was average. I had pumpkin chicken w/pumpkin-pancetta risotto. The chicken was tough and dry, though the risotto was good. When it was time to go, we asked 3 people for our check, finally got it, and waited another 20 min for them to bring it back for us to sign. While waiting, our table was surrounded by 4 people (manager, waitstaff). It was an awkward situation as they clearly wanted us to leave. If you have many hours to spare waiting for overpriced, average food and you don't mind putting up with a pretentious waitstaff, then go here.

Pros: bar, location

Cons: service, food, staff

DO NOT GO HERE

by kag138

I have never been so upset by a Boston bar, ever. If I could give this place no stars, I would. If you're not on the VIP list (VIP list=know a bouncer) and don't plan on paying off the bouncer, you're not getting in. Despite the fact we knew it was empty inside based on what people coming out said, they repeatedly claimed they were at capacity while three seconds later letting in another friend. Based on people going in, it was full of men. Talk about a place that takes itself too seriously!

Pros: NONE

Cons: Discriminatory Bouncers, Line for an empty dance floor, over-priced drinks

Don't know about Mondays

by elemalia84

Decided to try out the restaurant because it was restaurant week after all and me and my friend thought the food was delicious. The decoration of the place was nice. The waiter was very good with customer service. I was just disappointed that it was so extremely empty by the time we arrived for our 9 pm reservation. There were only about 4 other tables. Was it because it was Monday I don't know but I would give this place a second chance on a weekend though

Pros: restaurant week

Cons: where were the people

Nice venue, menu was limited, subpar service

by PK2008

My friend from San Diego came out to visit Mothers Day weekend. My girlfriend, her sister, my buddy and myself thought it would be nice to check out a new restaurant. I heard the buzz about this restaurant so I decided to check it out.

The venue itself is nice. The LED bar was really cool. Overall the presentation was nice. The menu itself was limited and didn't have alot of choices. They were trying to go for that fancy restaurant ambiance but they didn't pull it off. Our server was nice but she was non-existent most of the time. The whole evening was so slow and drawn out. Chicken Pie was OK. Took forever to get our food, drinks and check. When I paid for the check with my card, she came back with some yellow slip and swiped it manually. Whatever happened to printout receipts? Maybe it was broken I don't know.

I think the hype is not deserving and just looking at the place you'd think you would get more for your money but you don't. Don't take a girl here on a first date or a bunch of friends.

Not good at all.

by TomDixon

Went on Mothers Day 08 for brunch. It was $49 per person and horrible food. The eggs and french toast were cold on the buffet and the bacon and sausage were barely warm They charged $12 for each mimosa, and poured about 2 1/2 oz of mediocre champagne. Would not go back.

nice decor, no service

by freewilly7

food's average. liked their sangria tho.

service that night was quite bad. we were a group of 10 but food came out slow (a good 30-45 min after order), then some got food and some didn't. mixed up or wrong order, something. accidents happen i guess (either that or they might be upset that i showed up 45 min late and held up the table).
:)

Pros: ambiance, totally T accessible (orange line is right there), happening area

Cons: parking (they have valet, i think)

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

by idk320

I personally don't agree with all the hype this place gets. I was there for a friend's birthday and I have to say, NOT IMPRESSIVE AT ALL. Sure, the place looked pretty, but the food and service sucked. I was there to celebrate a friend's birthday and the person I spoke with when I made reservations knew it was going to be a birthday party. Upon our arrival, we asked if they could hold our cake. That was when they decided to inform us about the charges for having our own cake. $7 per person just for using their plates. That would cost more than the cake! It was ridiculous! The drinks were not that great and our waiter was not the best. Needless to say the food was not worth it for such a small portion.

Overall, I would NOT reccomend this place to anyone! It's lucky to have even gotten one star when it deserves none.

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Everything else

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Saturday night for her birthday. Before dinner we had a martini and cosmo at the bar which were prepared perfectly. The food was amazing and the recommended wine delicious. Our server Khalid was second to none. He was personable, attentive and knowledgeable. I would recommend this place to my closest of friends. I just wish we lived closer so that I could visit more often. I will definately be back on my next trip to Boston.

Rude service ruins 33

by slpmb

To say that my experience at 33 was horrible is an understatement. My friends and I could not have been treated more poorly and I have never had anyone speak to me as rudely as the managerial staff did at 33. I went there to celebrate a friend's birthday and was looking forward to a fun night however, the staff was rude to us from the start, making us feel unwelcome and as if they were doing us a favor by letting us in. The bouncers are on a complete power trip and gave many of the guests in my party a hard time getting in, even though they were on "the list." In hindsight, I wish we had left after our first rude encounter with the bouncers (before we even entered the place) but, unfortunately we stayed. That said, I will never go back to 33 again.

Pros: 1 friendly waitress

Cons: The rest of the staff, overpriced drinks, warm beer

Horrendous food and service

by hi3

33 is the WORST restaurant I have ever been to! I had a 9pm dinner reservation. Upon arrival, they told us they were "backed up" and it would be "just a few minutes". We sat at the bar where we were served warm white wine (apparantly their fridge wasn't working or their wine cellar is not at the correct temperature because even our red wine was warmer than it should have been). At 10 pm, our table was ready (yes we had to wait an entire hour to be seated, what was the point of making a reservation?!!). The night just proceeded to get worse, it took them 15 minutes to get us the bottle of wine we ordered and 20 just to put bread down on our table. My fiance ordered the filet mignon and asked that it be cooked rare and I ordered the tuna steak. Well, not only was his filet over cooked (it was medium), it also wasn't filet - they served him a NY Strip instead! We sent it back and they came back with a rare piece of, once again, NY Strip (are they trying to trick people? I don't get it!). In case you were wondering, my tuna was awful, I took one bite and was done with it. The food was so bad, this was the first time we had no desire to even look at a dessert menu, we just wanted to get out of there as quickly as we could! Needless to say, I came home and ate left over pizza. On the plus side, we were not charged for my fiance's filet ( I mean NY steak strip!). Don't go here, terrible food, service and atmosphere!

best night, best club, water with smile, speedy bar, nice staff!!!

by GinaLana

This was truly a high-end club for scene and crowd!!! Hot looking guys everywhere, ladies!! My friends and I had a club nite out at 33 last weekend, and we had the best time ever. We will definitely come back. Drink prices were pretty high at first, but for the music and the scene, we didn't mind too much in the end. I liked the two-floor idea. Downstairs lounge is small but sexier. I did learn the second time I ordered drinks, that just vodka vs. goose reflected different prices..I guess I'll go for regular vodka next time.We liked the middle bartender (pretty asian girl) 'cuz not only she was the fastest we had ever seen, but she was very nice when we asked for water. We appreciated it (bartenders at mantra were so rude about water! ). If you guys are looking for some dancing in nice outfit, pumping music, hot crowd, I recommend 33. One tip, there is a parking garage right on Clarendon. It's cheaper than valet.

Pros: best club, nice staff, two floors

Cons: no late night dining

Nicest staff anywhere

by jeffcofer

It was a long night and at first, things were looking like they wouldn't get any better. This is a classic story of a restaurant taking a bad day and turning it around. The waitstaff is attentive and will recommend items on the menu if you're unsure. The wine list is limited in quantity, but quality abounds, even on the by-the-glass list. Their prices seem a bit high, but I am from Atlanta. The Caesar salad was good w/o the anchovies and the tuna entree was nice and light, but no one told the chef that 'mixed veggies' in the couscous is not ratatouille. Regardless of the food, the bananas foster bread pudding is NOT to be missed; it's one of the best desserts I've had in awhile. The sommeleier sent over a nice Cadillac dessert wine just because I asked about the '97 d'Yqem (which they were out of) but it made the dessert course twice as nice. They callled me a cab and timed it to my departure...very detail-oriented. Did I mention they're truly nice people?

Pros: Good food and friendly people

Cons: high prices and general blandness

Good times then, nice change : New review after this weekend

by jamestremble

I have been to 33 several times with and without table service. To be honest the atmosphere was better some years ago. The line is tough but that is just Boston. The crowd on a night can range from European to Bostonian night club. Some nights have a very young attractive European crowd. Other times, barley making a B list crowd. I will be heading there again with a party of 20 or so this weekend. I have enjoyed my nights their but it is not for everyone, even many of my good friends. I have lived in CA for 4 years and its scene as well has most US cities. My point, I?m very open to new places and faces. I don?t want every place to feel like Boston or the East Coast. Change is nice. I have read most of all these review and look forward to adding my own after the weekend.

Pros: Different crowd similar to Sophia?s slash Pravda 116 back in the day

Cons: Line, lack of customer service in the service

Nightlife Awesome/Bartenders NOT

by 1mhutch

Went to 33 on Saturday night great girls night out! Atmosphere and people were fun and super friendly lots of eye candy ladies!! DJ was off the hook better than Gypsy Bar by far even if the lower level was closed for a private party.... The only thing that was bad was the bar service. Three rounds of drinks, three different bartenders, three different prices!! and that was not for the "infused" cocktails these were single liquer drinks... I have been in the hospitality buisness for over 20 years and know the game your bartenders were playing!! Time for a staff meeting you never know who they may be scamming next!!

Pros: Atmosphere & DJ

Cons: Dishonest Bar Staff

Had heard great things but was very disappointed

by kakraig

My husband and I have eaten in many great restaurants in Boston and elsewhere. We went to 33 for our anniversary with high expectations and were quite disappointed. While the drinks and appetizers (the corn chowder and the scallops) were good and tasty, the service was terrible, and the entrees and sides were unimpressive at best. The waitress was standoffish from the start. As a single example of the subpar service, our drink glasses were empty for more than 30 minutes before I was able to flag the waitress down for a new one -- and she walked away before my husband could request one as well. The vermont chicken was served practically raw -- and half the meat was actually pork, which I did not expect in a chicken dish, especially as I do not eat pork and certainly would not have thought to ask. The truffle "mac & cheese" was flavorless. Perhaps it was just a bad night for the restaurant, but it was one of the least enjoyable meals I've had in Boston.

Pros: Good (albeit expensive) drinks; tasty appetizers

Cons: Poor service; terrible entrees and sides

DREADFUL!!!HORRIBLE!!!RIDICULOUS!!!

by ralphie29

I've never been in my entire life to a worst restaurant. I wonder why they're still open. Reading some "nice" reviews about them here I got so upset that I had to write my own. What a bust!!! We went there expecting an upscale, sophisticated, classy place, and we're stunned to find out how everything we had thought were basically misconceptions created by an insane amount of paid advertising. The place STINKS!!! Management is non-existent, our server had no idea of ingredients and basic information about menu items, the food takes forever to come, drinks are overpriced and sub-par. The only good thing I have to say about this restaurant is the winelist, the rest has to go down in Boston restaurant scene as the WORST RESTAURANT EVER!!! FOLLOW MY ADVICE DO NOT GO THERE!!!!

Pros: Winelist

Cons: everything else! I mean, it's all messed up with this place

AMAZING!!!!!

by bettygirl1234

Everything was perfect! When we got there the hostess was all smiles and sat us right away. When we got to the table the waiter was there in a flash with recommendations that met everyone's taste, and believe me 4 girls are hard to please :o) Our waiter, George, was great. He could not have been better if he tried. He must have overheard that my girlfriend got a promotion during our conversations because there was a candle in her dessert and congrats was written on the plate. He went out of his way for us, all evening, and that is something you never see in a restaurant anymore. George and 33 have a brand new set of regulars! I highly recommend 33 to anyone and everyone.

Cheesy atmosphere, horrible service, mediocre food

by cat16

And on top of all this, after our group dropped a grand at the restaurant, we were not allowed into the downstairs club because we had not made reservations there. The manager called us arrogant for insisting to be let in. At that point, we didn't really want anything more to do with a place who treats paying customers like that, but it's the principle of the situation. Who manages a business like that?! Anyway, there are plenty of better, more fun places around Boston to spend your money.

cold and bland food, poor service, cold and uncomfortable atmosphere

by jps81

The food was simply terrible. It was cold in the middle and based on the entrees on other tables, I could only assume that the food had been uniformly assembled somewhere else and brought to the "restaurant" and heated up on site--the food wasn't even flavorful. I also had to wait an outrageous amount of time for my food and drink so the service was SLOW. I would agree with the other reviewers, THE 5 STAR RATINGS ARE FIXED. This place is AWFUL and should be AVOIDed at all costs. ew ew ew.

Pros: I'm at a loss.

Cons: worn out, tired ambiance, poor quality food, slow and insincere help.

We started with a pitcher of white sangria DELICIOUS, and a apple hookah, we had the Scallops, Steak Tartar, and Lobster Caesar salad, Oh my God that was so good. The waitress was very nice, knowledgeble and polite explaining everything in the menu. For our main course we had Tenderloin, Duck and Tuna.... ahhh and the best part the MAC AND CHEESE to die for...

I had a GREAT time @ 33.. And I will be back very soon.

Great Time

by dikjones

This is my first time posting a review on this site but after my experience at 33 I had to tell you all. I went on Friday with a friend of mine to have a late dinner on the patio. The atmosphere was calm and quiet, and the service was awsome. I had the sirloin with a side of their truffle mac and cheese, which were both phenominal! I'm no wine expert, so when our waitress was able to pair wines with our foor I was extremely impressed. After we neared the end of our meal you could feel 33 transforming into more of a nightclub. Since we had a good time so far we decided to get a pitcher of the raspberry sangria and try a hookah. Long story short we ended up hanging out there for the whole evening and I deffinatley recomend this as a place to go for dinner or just for some good nights.

THESE REVIEWS ARE A SCAM

by thephant0mg0urmet

IVE EATEN HERE TWICE. AND BEEN HERE AS A NIGHTCLUB PATRON LATENIGHT. ASIDE FROM THE FACT THAT THIS PLACE IS UNBELIEVEABLY SUB-PAR WHEN IT COMES TO FINE DINING IN BOSTON, THIS VOTING HAS TO BE FIXED... HOW CAN A RESTAURANT WITH ONLY ONE STEAK (WHICH IS PART OD A SURF AND TURF) MAKE IT IN THE TOP TEN BOSTON FOR BEST STEAK????? ASIDE FROM THAT, THIS RESTAURANT RATES IN THE TOP TEN IN ***NUMEROUS*** CATEGORIES, WHICH IS AN IMPOSSIBILITY... WISH SOMEONE FROM THIS WEBSITE COULD SMELL FRAUD.

Pros: ITS HIDDEN ON A SIDESTREET

Cons: MORESO A MEDITERRANEAN NIGHTCLUB

incredibly upsetting.

by bostonchef2005

this tucked away hideout should remain that way. i had dinner there last night with a group of 4 and may rank this as one of the poorest attempts at fine dining in the entire city of boston. had i only read the reviews before mine and i would have steered clear. mistral is just a few steps away and we should have stuck to the tried and true.

Pros: none

Cons: good luck parking

Mediocre food and poor service

by littlegourmand

Food was good but nothing to write home about (artichoke salad; seared scallops; duck 2 way; sorbet). With respect to the food, I might be a bit more generous except that all the warm/hot plates came out just 5 degrees short of room temp.
The service was absolutely horrible however. I think that there were may be 5 tables occupied by customers. Despite that fact, the wait person so took his time that my bread came out AFTER the appetizer, and that was only bc I asked for the bread basket.

Nice Atmosphere

by emulsion77

The drinks are a bit pricey, but there is a warm, stylish ambience with the brick walls and mellow lighting. Its a great place to meet a friend for a relaxing drink after work.

Top Notch Service

by mumzy346

As a frequent customer of 33, I had not been there in some time. Last week I went and was pleasantly surprised by the new menu. I noticed some of the same staff members, including our waitress, the same we had last time we dined there. She was just as good as I remembered, cheerful and well versed on the menu. This time I made note of her name, Lisa. She seems to be around the same age as my friends and me, and really made us feel comfortable. I overheard her conversation with the table next to us, an older couple, and she related to them just as well but in a different way. I think it's great that the staff is professional enough to realize each table has a different personality. The food was once again delicious, however this new chef is very different than the last. Lisa reccommended the Cod and the Bolognese and they were fantastic. Once again an amazing experience, great job!

Pros: Service, menu, and aesthetics (decor, staff, food presentation, everything looked nice!)

Cons: none!

If you have class, pay a visit.

by nolaroyale

Before you read this, let me provide a little context: I am a legal master at the sense of taste. I was blessed by Siddhartha through my heritage and he contributed to my genetic makeup by providing me the ability to be fully aware of my senses. Since my family has opened a gas station near Boston, we have invested our Buddha Fan Club investments in sampling the cuisine of the United States of America. No, the North End is nothing like Italy but for goodness sake, the Starbucks sign is ligned in gold! Yes, 33 is a place where Nordics dreaming of their homeland make like the Gotti brothers but it's culture! And it's beautiful! The food is delectable, my waitress jokes using culinary allusions to relatiosn. We <3 you Red Sox!

Hella Good!!!!

by spdis22

My experience at 33 was nothing if not phenomenal. I came in with a group of 5 girls and was seated immediately after having a round of delicious pomegranate martinis at the chic and aesthetically-pleasing bar. Our waitress was a pleasant alabaster princess who articulated the specials professionally, clearly, and without the generic dish-pushing that so often occurs at upscale bars. She recommended the macaroni and cheese and foie gras as we had expressed interest in appetizers that would be affordable and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was comparable to having a gratuitous flick filmed inside your mouth, the foie gras was decadent and a surprisingly ample portion, and the general manager approached our table to ensure our meal was up to par. It was, in short, and we expressed our gratitude via many thanks and another round of drinks. The dry-n-dirty martinis were a perfect cap to a delightful evening, and the Euro-infused (yet oddly non-alienating to sports bar advocates, as I am) beats the DJ dropped were inarguably the only way we got away with encircling the normally conservative birthday girl and grinding her without mercy. I had a great experience at 33 and the cost and slightly-Euro ambience is worth enduring for the immaculate scenery, attractive staff, and general feeling of class that infuses you upon entrance. "A" f'ing plus.

Great Night Club!!!

by hamiltonsrock

Wow, 33 was quite different! We had dinner there on Saturday night, and it was quite something to see the whole restaurant transforming into a club (lounge they call it?)! We arrived late so by the time finished eating, the lighting completely changed and the DJ started to jam some tunes. All of a sudden, I saw a rush of young people dressed well coming into 33, and I was quite amazed to see lots of good looking people, very well dressed. I am not used to a scene like this so i was shy at first, but I will definitely go back. My friends and I had a lot of fun, I have to say. Food was pretty good. Dinner tab was definitely not cheap but the food was not chain-restaurant quality either. i think we will probably just come for the lounge hours next time. We headed over to the bar and had a great time hanging out there all night! I even danced! Our bartender was very friendly (prompt service!! Long hair girl pretty) and was kind enough to explain why house martinis were so expensive. I didn't want to be lame but I had to ask - quite pricey! Apparently house drinks involve fresh fruits, puree, infusion, etc..I don't personlly understand how all that works, but tasted great so I wasn't too sad about spending $. Got some good buzz, too! We had lots of fun so we will return, but I will definitely think about getting dressed up more next time! Girls were very well-dressed. 33 was definitely not a local bar scene. Good job, 33.

Pros: Best lounge scene, fast bar service, good drinks, music

Cons: price is high, parking,

THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!! I LOVE IT!!! BEAUTIFUL FOOD, WINE, SERVICE, AND CROWD

by mishkaw

I was reading 33's previous reviews and no wonder why most of them are negative. People that complain are people that are used to eating next door at bertuccis and drinking cheap beers while listening to crappy music at Daisy's on Newbury. People, don't waste your time criticizing one of Boston?s best places to be because of your lack of good taste and money. If you have a ?difficult to please? pallet, and are willing to pay for excellent food and service, then come to 33. And that?s not all, afterwards, you get to see the mot beautiful people in Boston, while drinking champagne in the VIP lounge, and dancing to the best music. It?s amazing. I come here all the time with my boyfriend and his friends. We are very picky when it comes to food, wine, and nightlife and we all love this place. A note to the bad review beneath mine (like the person who wrote it), the mushrooms in your gnocchi are not just any type of mushrooms, they?re truffles, gold in the soil my dear, which I?m not going to waste my time explaining to you. Don?t criticize what you don?t know, I bet they have exactly what you like at bertuccis for 5 bucks. The chef at 33 is amazing, he comes from the 4 seasons, he knows exactly what his doing. The food is exquisite and so is its atmosphere. People with money come to this place, you?ll love it. People without money, give yourself a month to save money for a nice shirt and nice shoes so you can mingle, get some appetizers at the bar if you can?t afford a full meal (they?re equally as good), and prepare yourself to see the most beautiful and gorgeous people that you won?t probably see at any ordinary pub. 33 I love you guys!! What would Boston be without you!!

Pros: EVERYTHING!!!!!

Cons: Crapy people who come in just beacuse it's free....don't bother stay home!!!

Great for nightlife. TERRIBLE for dinner

by diningpretty

I checked the reviews on CitySearch before we went to 33. Some good. Some bad. Some terrible. But I kept thinking, how could a place that hot, be that bad?

When we arrived, the hostess led us to a table right by the open door letting in freezing air. We had to ask for our coats back from coat check. There goes my hot dinner outfit.

The boys had wine which tasted like it had been sitting in a dirty dishwasher for 75 years. And our friend had a coke which was flatter than Cameron Diaz.

Onto round two. I ordered Gnocchi that happened to have "porcini" in the description... but NO WHERE did it say: Porcini soup with a side of Gnocchi! The plate reaked of mushrooms. Strong, poisonous mushrooms your mom told you not to eat. Burried in the mushroom swamp, there were 7 pieces of Gnocchi the size of a dime. I tried one and my mouth filled up with mushroom flavor and my nose and eyes were watering it was so powerful. So nasty. I covered my untouched plate with my napkin so the smell didn't get into my clothes. So gross.

To top it all off we waited 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared. $160 down the drain and not even a good aftertaste to take along.

WORST DINING & SERVICE EVER ENCOUNTERED

by billydav

Congratulations to 33 for all those great ratings you received but how you got them is beyond me. I would talk about the service but there is nothing to say. The food is very mediocre and dry as if moisture in chicken is hard to check (twice). Waiter made a disappearing act and when he came back, his uniform smelled of smoke. Try to complain to wine sommelier and manager but they smelled of smoke also...you see where this is heading. Apologies were hard to get and who would bother with a professional group like us mainly when the club started and the kids started coming in. So all and all, great ratings....where did they come from again....

Pros: Leaving the restaurant

Cons: Going to the restaurant
