33 Restaurant and Lounge has become the benchmark destination in Boston for those who expect only the best. We feature a contemporary American menu, fusing traditional New England cuisine with hints of the exotic. Our flavorful menu has gained popularity for its versatility in vegetarian options as well as the ability for dishes to cater to dietary needs. Using the best locally grown produce, freshly caught seafood and home-made pastas, dishes don flavorful sauces that compliment each ingredient perfectly at 33 Restaurant and Lounge. Further accentuating the spirit of the carte du jour at 33 Restaurant and Lounge is the constantly changing and extensive wine list, featuring both American and international selections.

The Scene
The visually stunning layout draws a strong bar and lounge scene (dining room tables are easier to come by than bar stools). An omnipresent light show distracts patrons from their stylish house cocktails (apple sidecars, pomegranate margaritas), while diners stay focused on their meals. When the weather doesn't jibe with the outdoor patio, the fashionable Euro set heads downstairs to the dark, stylish lounge.

The Food
33's European-style offerings include a frisee and lardons salad, lobster gnocchi, and a butternut squash soup with lump crab meat. Entrees run the gamut from birch beer-braised short ribs, Norwegian salmon confit, and a classic chicken pot pie to a vegetarian entrée of porcini pasta, carrot "osso bucco" and a medley of spring beans with walnut oil. Warm individual carrot cakes, chocolate beignets and exotic homemade sorbets are just a few of the inviting desserts on offer.

Hits
The three-course, $33 prix fixe menu is offered at all times and presents a good bargain for scene-chasing diners.

Misses
On weekends, the bar scene starts to heat up after 10pm, causing late-night diners to occasionally contend with hectic crowds and prohibitive noise levels.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - While the dining area maintains a business-casual vibe, you'll want to dust off your most stylish duds when visiting the lounge.
  2. The Extras - Cap off a late night with some mini kobe burgers from an eclectic "bar bites" menu that's served until 11pm nightly.

Ratings_icons Good for a drink or two

...but that's all you'll be able to afford. Just 'ok' if you're looking to hang out with a friend or two after a meal at Hard Rock or Bertucci's (right around the corner). But don't receomment making a night out of it. Especially if you're looking to hit the dance floor, which is small, sweaty and crowded with some sketchy people.

Before you read this, let me provide a little context: I am a legal master at the sense of taste. I was blessed by Siddhartha through my heritage and he contributed to my genetic makeup by providing me the ability to be fully aware of my senses. Since my family has opened a gas station near Boston, we have invested our Buddha Fan Club investments in sampling the cuisine of the United States of America. No, the North End is nothing like Italy but for goodness sake, the Starbucks sign is ligned in gold! Yes, 33 is a place where Nordics dreaming of their homeland make like the Gotti brothers but it's culture! And it's beautiful! The food is delectable, my waitress jokes using culinary allusions to relatiosn. We <3 you Red Sox!

Ratings_icons Hella Good!!!!

spdis22

My experience at 33 was nothing if not phenomenal. I came in with a group of 5 girls and was seated immediately after having a round of delicious pomegranate martinis at the chic and aesthetically-pleasing bar. Our waitress was a pleasant alabaster princess who articulated the specials professionally, clearly, and without the generic dish-pushing that so often occurs at upscale bars. She recommended the macaroni and cheese and foie gras as we had expressed interest in appetizers that would be affordable and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was comparable to having a gratuitous flick filmed inside your mouth, the foie gras was decadent and a surprisingly ample portion, and the general manager approached our table to ensure our meal was up to par. It was, in short, and we expressed our gratitude via many thanks and another round of drinks. The dry-n-dirty martinis were a perfect cap to a delightful evening, and the Euro-infused (yet oddly non-alienating to sports bar advocates, as I am) beats the DJ dropped were inarguably the only way we got away with encircling the normally conservative birthday girl and grinding her without mercy. I had a great experience at 33 and the cost and slightly-Euro ambience is worth enduring for the immaculate scenery, attractive staff, and general feeling of class that infuses you upon entrance. "A" f'ing plus.

Ratings_icons Great Night Club!!!

hamiltonsrock

Wow, 33 was quite different! We had dinner there on Saturday night, and it was quite something to see the whole restaurant transforming into a club (lounge they call it?)! We arrived late so by the time finished eating, the lighting completely changed and the DJ started to jam some tunes. All of a sudden, I saw a rush of young people dressed well coming into 33, and I was quite amazed to see lots of good looking people, very well dressed. I am not used to a scene like this so i was shy at first, but I will definitely go back. My friends and I had a lot of fun, I have to say. Food was pretty good. Dinner tab was definitely not cheap but the food was not chain-restaurant quality either. i think we will probably just come for the lounge hours next time. We headed over to the bar and had a great time hanging out there all night! I even danced! Our bartender was very friendly (prompt service!! Long hair girl pretty) and was kind enough to explain why house martinis were so expensive. I didn't want to be lame but I had to ask - quite pricey! Apparently house drinks involve fresh fruits, puree, infusion, etc..I don't personlly understand how all that works, but tasted great so I wasn't too sad about spending $. Got some good buzz, too! We had lots of fun so we will return, but I will definitely think about getting dressed up more next time! Girls were very well-dressed. 33 was definitely not a local bar scene. Good job, 33.

Pros: Best lounge scene, fast bar service, good drinks, music

Cons: price is high, parking,

Ratings_icons THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!! I LOVE IT!!! BEAUTIFUL FOOD, WINE, SERVICE, AND CROWD

mishkaw

I was reading 33's previous reviews and no wonder why most of them are negative. People that complain are people that are used to eating next door at bertuccis and drinking cheap beers while listening to crappy music at Daisy's on Newbury. People, don't waste your time criticizing one of Boston?s best places to be because of your lack of good taste and money. If you have a ?difficult to please? pallet, and are willing to pay for excellent food and service, then come to 33. And that?s not all, afterwards, you get to see the mot beautiful people in Boston, while drinking champagne in the VIP lounge, and dancing to the best music. It?s amazing. I come here all the time with my boyfriend and his friends. We are very picky when it comes to food, wine, and nightlife and we all love this place. A note to the bad review beneath mine (like the person who wrote it), the mushrooms in your gnocchi are not just any type of mushrooms, they?re truffles, gold in the soil my dear, which I?m not going to waste my time explaining to you. Don?t criticize what you don?t know, I bet they have exactly what you like at bertuccis for 5 bucks. The chef at 33 is amazing, he comes from the 4 seasons, he knows exactly what his doing. The food is exquisite and so is its atmosphere. People with money come to this place, you?ll love it. People without money, give yourself a month to save money for a nice shirt and nice shoes so you can mingle, get some appetizers at the bar if you can?t afford a full meal (they?re equally as good), and prepare yourself to see the most beautiful and gorgeous people that you won?t probably see at any ordinary pub. 33 I love you guys!! What would Boston be without you!!

Pros: EVERYTHING!!!!!

Cons: Crapy people who come in just beacuse it's free....don't bother stay home!!!

Ratings_icons Great for nightlife. TERRIBLE for dinner

diningpretty

I checked the reviews on CitySearch before we went to 33. Some good. Some bad. Some terrible. But I kept thinking, how could a place that hot, be that bad?

When we arrived, the hostess led us to a table right by the open door letting in freezing air. We had to ask for our coats back from coat check. There goes my hot dinner outfit.

The boys had wine which tasted like it had been sitting in a dirty dishwasher for 75 years. And our friend had a coke which was flatter than Cameron Diaz.

Onto round two. I ordered Gnocchi that happened to have "porcini" in the description... but NO WHERE did it say: Porcini soup with a side of Gnocchi! The plate reaked of mushrooms. Strong, poisonous mushrooms your mom told you not to eat. Burried in the mushroom swamp, there were 7 pieces of Gnocchi the size of a dime. I tried one and my mouth filled up with mushroom flavor and my nose and eyes were watering it was so powerful. So nasty. I covered my untouched plate with my napkin so the smell didn't get into my clothes. So gross.

To top it all off we waited 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared. $160 down the drain and not even a good aftertaste to take along.

Ratings_icons WORST DINING & SERVICE EVER ENCOUNTERED

billydav

Congratulations to 33 for all those great ratings you received but how you got them is beyond me. I would talk about the service but there is nothing to say. The food is very mediocre and dry as if moisture in chicken is hard to check (twice). Waiter made a disappearing act and when he came back, his uniform smelled of smoke. Try to complain to wine sommelier and manager but they smelled of smoke also...you see where this is heading. Apologies were hard to get and who would bother with a professional group like us mainly when the club started and the kids started coming in. So all and all, great ratings....where did they come from again....

Pros: Leaving the restaurant

Cons: Going to the restaurant

Ratings_icons RIPOFF!!! Look elswere before you think going to 33 restaurant

discon

Music is ok however, that's about the only thing fair about this place.

Don't order drinks by the bottle WITHOUT ASKING FOR THE PRICE FIRST ! SERIOUSLY! Ask for a menu of drinks! You will thank me for this single advice.

They sell whole bottle drinks 10X THE PRICE ON THE MARKET. No BS!

Drinks by the glass at the bar are pricey but still ok.

The atmosphere is not that great and it does not measure up with the price they charge. You can find better in other places for the same price.

Waiter was very rude!!! Don't think arguing with them.

Pros: We found out we have to pay a huge bill in time

Cons: Going in

Ratings_icons to die for duck

becky617

There was a group of four of us that came here last night. I had the Duck for my entree and have to say it was some fo the best duck I have ever had in my life. the skin was a perfect combination of Crispy and fatty and the apples and lentils onteh side fo the dish made for a surprisingly perfect compliment. Add in a great wine selected by the very sweet and knowlegable Sommelier and this was an almost perfect evening .

Pros: Knowledgeable staff, great food

Cons: come in early to avoid club crowd that starts to come in later

Ratings_icons Trendy, Classy, Chic.

freshfoodpro

This place is Class. We arrived after 11:30 p.m. on a Saturday night and it was really happening. I would recommend getting on the guest list and making a table reservation to avoid the line and get VIP service. After getting in, I was immediately taken over by the lighting, the mood, the music, the design and the clientele?gorgeous. We got a table downstairs in their Lounge (which is their ?Ultra VIP? room). Talk about VIP, we had our own DJ, our own waitress, our own bar and our own table in a setting that?s truly unseen in Boston (Looked to me that the other tables in the room felt the same way). Reading through reviews posted here on Citysearch, looks like the bad ones are posted by individuals with no posts elsewhere and really nothing nice to say about anything. The good posts are posted by individuals who know what they?re saying and actually go out to places and share their experiences with others. I found the good ones to be right for 33. I heard 33 serves a great meal as well, can?t wait to come back for dinner.

Pros: VIP Service, Ambiance, Clientele

Cons: None that I saw

Ratings_icons Cool lighting, good drinks

gilligans12

My friends and I went to 33 last weekend and it was pretty fun. I came here last year and rememeber we had a good time, so we returned and we weren't disaapointed. Drink prices are still high but I thought they were worth it (strong...got me drunk!) But things were a little different. I noticed there were a lot more young kids (college kids, they seemed)...saw some crazy drinking crowds..hhmmm! Downstairs lounge seemed very different this time around. Not that full, but we weren't let in...??? !!! Bouncer said it was due to headcount, but he could've been a bit nicer. So we stayed upstairs and had a surprisingly fun time dancing. I didn't know they had a small dance floor in the back, but it's a good size and I will definitely be back. We were served promptly with sweet drinks...happy about that. Definitely better behaved and better dressed people here and good drinks here than Rumor where one shot cost me $14! ....No thanks to that. Over all, fun place. Will be back.

Pros: decor, friendly bar, good looking people

Cons: no parking, grumpy bouncers

Ratings_icons Horrible on many levels

108nights

These guys are about as pretentious as they come, especially considering the club is usually only 50% full. Don't be fooled by the line outside: it's just an illusion. Guest list means nothing and the bouncers are not only rude but ugly. Once you are in be ready for more frustration: The bartenders are spread so thin you would think they are trying not to sell their way overpriced drinks.

I'm sure there is something redeeming about this place but I'm not quite sure what it is. I know my friends and I are not going back to find out.

Ratings_icons Rude Bouncers, slow bar tenders, and over price drinks combine for a low quality experience

jdunster

This place is bad in more ways than I can possibly list. The bouncers kept us outside for a really long time claiming that it was at capacity and we entered to find out it was only half full. The bar is understaffed and it took up to 30 minutes to be served. The drinks are priced on par with the best clubs in New York or LA but it is not one of the Best Clubs in NY or LA ... it is not even in the top clubs in Boston. Stay away ... far away!

Pros: Nicely decorate

Cons: Terrible service and overpriced drinks

Ratings_icons Interesting establishment

nunus

Coming to 33 has been a very interesting experience I must say. Saturday night, 8:30 reservation party of 4. We were seated promptly and since the beginning, had excellent service from our waiter. He was very courteous, professional, fast, and calm. He took the time to explain in detail items in the menu, he was very knowledgeable, and even gave some interesting facts about the chef, which helped to explain 33's exotic, and elaborate menu. Our evening was going perfectly fine, we were enjoying the food and great wine suggested by the sommelier, but it all became somewhat distracting and upsetting when the nightclub crowd started coming in. We had to yell to each other to be heard, it took a long time to get our desserts and our check, because due to the hecticness, our waiter couldn't even make it to our table. And even him, who seemed so relaxed and organized at the beginning, got so tense and frantic that it made us feel no longer welcomed and we even felt uncomfortable. As soon as we got the check we struggled to make it to the front door and left in panic! We enjoyed the food, loved the service before 10:30. I highly recommend this fine restaurant for an early dinner. If you like the noisy and routines, come for a late dinner, this seems to be the place to be. Salute, and enjoy.

Pros: Excellent food and service

Cons: Late night routines

Ratings_icons I have no idea what some of these people are thinking...

bubbypoker

This restaurant is fantastic. My girlfriend and I have come here on several occasions, and have nothing to complain about. The food is superb, the waitstaff quick, knowledgeable and efficient, and the ambience is unparalleled. They even honored my special request to the maitre d for a special dessert palate for our anniversary! I never write these reviews, but I feel like I have to say something so that all you people looking for a hot spot to go on a date will not be deterred by these snooty, and apparently stupid people that think the 33 is not up to par. I have never been hassled by the bouncer. He is doing his job by keeping people out. Rich snots that are given a hard time by him are probably just not used to being stopped by bouncers when the wave 100's in front of their faces drunk. Don't let these losers deter you. Go to the 33. You'll love it!!!

Pros: everything

Cons: just a tad pricey for the college lads

Ratings_icons Avoid at all cost

We had a complaint on this site about a week or two ago and we notice that it was taken down. The reason for it was that the owner of this restaurant actually called this review site to complain. It's ironic that his wish was granted over that of a guest that paid good money for a night out and came away disappointed with a fruitless evening out with friends. I guess telling the truth was not welcomed even if my partner's wife was approach in a lewd manner. I won't go into details because details are what 33 is not about. Avoid this catastrophic venue called a restaurant.

Pros: NONE WHAT SO EVER

Cons: READ MY REVIEW

Ratings_icons Great food and drinks all seem good to me

bexclub

Even as an older gentlman, a local who visited many bars Boston has to offer, I find 33 enjoyable and just fine with no problems. I find it to be a good restaurant with exceptional food and service where I enjoy returning. Two years ago, I hosted a company party there where things went smoothly as my younger guests ended up staying after dinner because it turned into a club. I don't go to loud places anymore, but I still return to 33 occasionally and I hear good things from my colleagues whenever they visit there. Well, my audience, I opened Citysearch today because I wanted to post a review about 33 with a hope that other viewers might find my saying helpful. But, I find myself wanting to touch two separate subjects. Subject A -about 33- good food(balanced with spices and choices of sides, excellent for the upcoming cold weather, my chicken was little too hot for my taste) and drinks(flavorful and creative, but my strawberry drink was too sweet), and polite service (plus good knowledge of their menu). All in all, another satisfied night. Subject B -posted comments - While I agree with not everybody always having good experiences, I find the restless relay of complaints from one person(obviously) rather not helpful- maybe I am too old to understand what the negative shouting is all about, but I'd like to hear exactly what is especially wrong about 33 so we can keep the pointers in mind. All the complaints about service, line-ups, crowded space, security staff, etc...they are typical complaints that any lounges receive. Anything that is not ordinary, that "33" can't deliver while other venus can, should be mentioned more, I think. It's this simple. As an ex-clubber, I say wherever there is a line with public demand high, you know you are not the single most important guest in the club...everyone else is as well, and therefore, you shouldn't always expect your demands to be met perfectly before someone else's.

Pros: ambience, food, drinks

Cons: crowded after hours

Ratings_icons Worst Experience EVER!!!

anniemau

Long story short - my husband and I went to dinner with 4 friends. We got a limo and reservations at 33 for 8:30 last Saturday night and we were seated quickly. The feed us drinks and more drinks, however they do not feed us food. We had to beg for more bread and our salads (which came at 10:15). We spoke to 4 people about the service. Our server said "I'm serving you, you all have drinks", we needed food. We were promised free dessert which we asked to have right then and there because we couldn't wait for dinner anymore. Around 10:30 we got up and left. We ended up at Bertucci's next door and they fed us within 5 minutes of sitting down, we should have gone there in the first place.

Pros: Strong drinks

Cons: Worst service I have EVER had

Ratings_icons completely rude

heresay

I don't reccomend this place to anyone. Anyone who likes to feel appreciated for being a client someplace should not come here. There is a blatant disregard for anyone. This is supposed to be a restaurant but instead when 1030 rolls around you get hurried out the door or to get up off your table so that they can move the table for all their drinking customers. No common curtousy either from the bouncer after we made the ill decision to stay after dinner. He wouldn't let our one female friend in since there was a line. Well it was the last time we'll be going there and again I say no one should go to this place. Do they have any managers here or jsut a bunch of mindless people who like to make themselves feel more important than they really are?

Ratings_icons Worst reception ever

jakeplum

Friday 10pm, and we had to convince the bouncer that we had reservations. We had to call the hostess because he said he 'wasn't moving from the door'. I had to call the restaurant and then gave him my cell phone so he can speak with the hostess and he just remove the rope and said 'just go in". We ask the hostess after we sat down that we would like to speak with the manager, she said 'i will try, he is busy you know and we have to get ready to open the club...". We should have gotten the hint and left but it was 10:25 pm on a friday night, 25 minutes after our reservation was almost ignored. The restaurant wasn't full but wasn't busy either. It went downhill from there. Food was cold, service was mediocre, wrong temp on steak and of course, no manager on sight. We left disappointed and will never be back again.

Pros: Bad reception

Cons: Non existant management

Ratings_icons Avoid the place-it's not worth the wait and the attitude of the bouncer

bonbon2022

We tried entering 33 on a saturday evening, around 10:30pm; we wanted to stop for drinks and dessert. The bouncer was rude and informed us that the place is full and we have to wait outside, even though 33 Restaurant and Lounge is SUPPOSED to be a restaurant first, then a lounge! After me asking to speak with a manager the bouncer told me that he is the manager and the owner too (???); that is unheard of, but if the owner was the bouncer, I would have thought he might be actually happy to have clients enter the place. The same night we had dinner at Avila (excellent service and food) and none of us recalled having any trouble entering the restaurant, let alone wait outside. We have been to numerous other classy and well worth the money restaurants in Boston and none of them has a bouncer outside, refusing to let clients into the place. 33 will never establish a quality reputation for it's food unless it changes it attitude towards clients and defines itself as either a restaurant or a club only. If you are looking for a great meal and dessert, avoid this place!

Pros: Avoid the place!

Cons: Avoid the place!

Ratings_icons Worst Customer Service I Have Ever Encountered

GAME4ever

Until this week, 33 was my favorite lounge/club in Boston. I have been there countless times in the last 5 years since I moved to Boston. I have celebrated with table service in the Lounge for two of my birthdays, as well as numerous other special occasions with friends. I have never had reason to complain, but I organized a birthday celebration recently and was APPALLED. I made a reservation for a $250 table in the Lounge with the night club manager, who was very friendly. Our party was promptly seated by the night club manager when we arrived and the service was fine, but at the end of the night, I was presented with a check subtotaled over $350. It was not itemized so I assumed that I had to add tip to my tab. There was no note whatsoever stating that service charge was included already, so I included a 20% tip. After I left that evening, I calculated again the things we ordered and realized it could not have totaled over $350. I called 33 and was told that an 18% service charge is added to all bills for table service in the Lounge. When I spoke to the manager requesting that they remove the additional 20% tip I added to the bill, he was absolutely RUDE. Not only did he refuse to remove the charge, he started our conversation by telling me that he couldn't imagine anyone stupid enough to go to an establishment and accidently overtip. In retrospect, I should have asked for an itemized bill, but the manager's attitude is completely unacceptable. I added tip because I was trying to be a good customer, but instead, had to endure the manager insulting me. This may be a fun place to go, but the owners should really rethink who they employ to interact with their customers.

Pros: nice scene, good music

Cons: terrible service

klaus1974

This restaurant seems to have no management at all!!! Even with reservations we had to wait forever to be seated, even though they had several emtpy tables. Finally, when we were seated, the table was dirty!!! Is this a first class, top notch restaurant? Food was so so at best and service was below par. The only good things about this restaurant are the winelist and ambiance, decoration is really nice and well done, besides that this place is highly overrated and we will never go back again.

Pros: Ambiance, winelist, bar

Cons: Service, cleanliness, overpriced menu

Wow, this place rocks! I jsut moved from LA so my brother took me out to 33 last Friday night. HOT looking people (hot bartenders, man!!)! We waited at the bar while we waited for friends, and the lady bartender was very quick to get us drinks (strong! worth the $ )and was very friendly. We got there late but were able to have some snacks before the place got really crowded. Good food. I only got to try chicken, but next time I will try the dinner menu. Food is definitely recommended! I like this place better than that "Underbar" whatever place is..this is a true lounge...people look good and and loved the music and the atmosphere. I will be returning to this place a lot, but next time, with much more stylish shirt. Recommended!!!

Pros: Beautiful ladies, good house drinks

Ratings_icons Horrible Service at the BAR

costellano

What is going on with the bartenders at 33? I went to 33 a couple of weeks ago and it was early in the evening before the bar got busy with it's late night crowd. I came at 8:30 I waited with my date for about 20 minutes before anyone greated us and served us our drink (although there were 2 bartenders chatting infront of us) neither of them acknowledged our presence. Toward the end of the night neither of the bartenders could figure out where our tab was, what we had to drink. We waited an additional 30 minutes to get our check which we never got the bartender just said it'll be $48.00 well we just wanted to leave by this time so we paid. Management needs to take a serious look at the quality service provided at this establishment.

The warm chocolate cake was every chocoholics dream!

I rarely write reviews. However, after going to the 33 Restaurant last night with my wife for our anniversary, I could not help myself. We walked down Stanhope street from Berkley and at first thought we had made a mistake, because it didn't seem to be the likely place for a CitySearch top 10 Romantic Restaurant. But then, there it was hidden away at the end of a dark alley. When we went inside the restaurant, I was a little nervous because I think we were the only couple in the whole restaurant. Now granted it was a Tuesday night at 9pm, but my general rule of thumb is that you can tell how good a restaurant is by the line, right? WRONG!

For the next hour and a half we were treated like royalty. Our waitress brought us to a romantic table for two outside on the patio. Then she helped us get through the menu (and trust me, I needed help.. hehe) We started off with the softshell crab. My wife and I get soft shell crab pretty much anytime we see it on a menu, and this one was the best I have ever had. It was juicy inside and had a perfect crisp tempura shell. It was served with edemame, walnuts and some other vegetables in a sort of vinagrette marinade. It was just nothing short of amazing. My wife and I ordered the lobster and organic salmon for our entrees. They too were just unbelievable. At one point during our meal, the chef even made us a special surprise treat. Afterwards, we went inside and shared a piece of to die for warm chocolate cake and what my wife called "the best cappuccino I have ever had."

We will be going back for sure.

Ratings_icons Upscale bar scene after dinner

Heard lots about 33 Restaurant. If your expectation is low, then dinner is good, but it's really not anything special for that price you pay. While some of the interior design is kind of cool, I won't pick this restaurant purely for the food. It's a better hang out place for an after dinner drink with your date.

Pros: Singles Scene

Cons: Not worth the price just for dinner if you are not for dating purposes

Ratings_icons Assertive but Polite Doorstaff

woosie

So I was very wary about coming here because of the comments made by several people about the doorstaff.I have a dozen or so friends that go here and said they aren't always rude so last weekend I decided to tag along and find out on my own. First off they did have a line and the wait was kind of long but it's a hot spot what do you expect. Not everyone can be VIP and not everyone should expect to be. when I got to the front I asked how long the wait was and was given a straight answer "not sure, but not too much longer".I prefer this more than anything else I have ever gotten since most places will tell you 5 or 10 minutes and be way off.So there were 3 things I mainly wanted to mention.1st- there was someone being taken out or walked out, whatever the correct term is for throwing someone out and there was a crowd of people around the ropes and this is why I say polite but assertive the guy directly at the ropes (light skinned and shorter than the other doormen) cleared the people outside the ropes not by pushing and yelling but saying somewthing like watch out folks we have someone being sent out or something like that which was polite but was assertive so people would move.2nd- there was a taller skinny dark guy inside (who looked like he was mad all the time) I had some friends inline further back and I approached him and asked if he could get them in and he was hesitant at first but then he said show him who they were and he would see about getting them in since it was already close to 1am, so he let them in which I thanked him for, he was stern but seemed only to be following the rules. 3rd- I will be returning because the drinks were a bit expensive but they were very good and I think everyone that wrote something bad on here were probably just bitter they didn't hookup that night and were probably thrown out for being drunk. Not the place for fanuiel hall type drunkness or lansdowne st. narcotic's use. It's an upscale place w/ upscale ppl.

Pros: drinks, bartenders are good, upstairs nice and cool

Cons: hot downstairs, price of signiture drinks, euro trash receptical

I have enjoyed several fun evenings at 33 lounge, so I was appalled by the greeting of the doorman on Saturday night! Not only was he rude to my out of town guests, but continued to scan my group as he turned us away. Why any club would turn away a group of well dressed, classy women seems absurd. He asked to be 'credentialed' when my girlfriend's PR job at Paramount Pictures in LA came up, and when she dispalyed her business card he seemed as unimpressed as I am for this lame Euro club. NEVER AGAIN!!

Pros: location, drinks, dancing

Cons: Obnoxious Service

While the food was average (I recomend the lobster ceasar) the service was outright horrible. Not only was our waitress "talking down" to us all night, but the bouncers congregated around our table getting ready for their weekend crowd. No common courtesy from anyone in this place. If you can deal with pathetic service and awful people skills you might want to try it out. But the food wasnt good enough to overcome the floor staff. Stay away, you might as well go somewhere where the $30 plates figure in elite service.

Ratings_icons A GREAT EXPERIENCE

I had a great experience at this lounge. It was a friend's birthday and we decided to take her here for drinks. The drinks were great....especially the Bloody Marys. If you want to have a good time, go here....you won't be disappointed.

Ratings_icons Very disappointing

exwaitress

I took a group of 7 out-of-towners here for brunch this Sunday. What a disappointment. The service was very poor. It appeared that our waiter was the bartender and the only waiter in the place! It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks - he had to SET UP the "make your own bloody mary" bar. There was no vodka - so everyone made "virgin" bloodies and drank most of them before the waiter came over with shots of vodka, telling us he had totally forgotten to put the vodka out! My glass of champagne was $13! There was an automatic 20% gratuity on our check, due to the size of our party, which he did NOT deserve! The food was decent - but the service was just lousy.

Pros: food

Cons: service

Ratings_icons Hottest all-Around Spot in Boston

beantowngirl

Most places have either a good restaurant or a good night life. This Place definitely has more a ton of both. I have a blast everytime I come in but have noticed changes for the better recently. Food is awesome and you get alittle of everything that Boston's nightlife has to offer, great music great drinks and great atmosphere. I have tried both ways and I reccommend getting a table, Much better experience if your out with friends or trying to make an impression. I hate waiting in line so its the only way to beat it. There's also a buzz that there is some secret remodeling project going on there with the lounge.we shall see if they can top themselves again, I heard they hired a new manager so maybe thats why service has been better and they are remodeling..who knows but I CANT wait to see whats next!!

Pros: people, atmosphere, drinks

Cons: waiting in line, patio not opened yet

With so much potential, it's a shame 33 turned out the way it did. I had been there for dinner on a few occasions and experienced barely acceptable service. I at least thought it reliable for a night out with old friends and family. It was my mistake. The staff is rude and obnoxious. Particularly the bouncers that I had never seen since it was our first late night at 33. The bartenders lacked skill, the waitress had a horrible attitude and the management doesn't even know how to spell class. And don't be fooled by their free advertising in this forum, the only "real" critics impressed by their food or style are townies and people who drink untill they don't know any better.

Pros: easy to find, aesthetics

Cons: poor service, juvenile crowd

I don't understand what some of the reviews are talking about. I've been going to 33 for about 3 years now, and have never had a bad experience. The drinks and the food are fabulous, some of the best I've had and the vibe is really cool. I always feel like a VIP when I walk through the door. Yes, I have seen the doormen be kind of hard of some guests, but its usually when the person is so beligerent that he's obviously making foolish decisions on how to act. Have some class when you go to a place like this, and you'll be treated like a king.

Pros: VIP treatment, cocktail menu, hot bartenders

Ratings_icons 33 used to be good, but not anymore.

We used to love this place, when it was newer and cared about customers. We recently observed a bouncer not let someone in because he complained that it was cold outside and they had been waiting for 20 minutes, when they were told it would be a 4-5 mintue wait. Two bouncers were about to let him in when a third (who had been outside for 2 minutes) told him he was "whining like a woman about the cold and therefore he was not allowed in." I was offended that he wouldn't let this guy in, and his comment was extremely derogatory to women. I then watched him "excercise his power" over 3-4 more patrons. I used to love this place, but I have to agree with many of the other reviewers, it's too bad they now have a very poor choice of staff, especially for the money they charge.

Pros: atmosphere upstairs, easy to find location

Cons: bouncers, owner

Ratings_icons Killer appetizers!!! Can't remember entree

Rembry

Went with a party of seven on a weeknight. No problem w/reservation and/or seating. The service was great. The appetizers were incredible. The variety, originality and presentatin were all impressive. The chef visited our table to check in on us and even shared a few appetizers with us, gratis. He was genuinely interested in what we thought of the food. I was so blown away by the appetizers, to be honest, I can't remember my entree. Seared scallops, I believe. And not anything to write home about.

Pros: Appetizers, Service

For the Fabulous! The food becomes more amazing everytime I go and Friday and Saturday lounge scene has never disappointed me. The Beef Tenderloin with Potato Rostie is my favorite, one of their waitresses recently recommended I try it with the Madeira wine, the combination was heaven.

If you want a sheek trendy atmosphere that is both cool and sexy you have to try this nightspot. It's been great for dates and girls night's out. The music is hot and the people are hotter!

33 Restaurant and Lounge gets 4 stars.

Pros: Cool Vibe, Great Food, Fun Lounge Scene

Cons: Long Lines, No smoking area

Ratings_icons Worse Service I've Ever Had!

ldt1

At first glance the place looks amazing, but it's downhill from there. We had 7pm reservations for a party of 8 and it took 30 minutes to be seated, hardly even acknowledged when we walked in. Seemed like the 3 people at the host stand were preoccupied with something else. Took another 20 minutes to place our cocktail order and 1.5 hours to get our meal served. The food didn't live up to expectation. While the menu was unique and ecclectic, with a wonderful presentation, but that was a disappointment too. I've had much better foie gras and seared tuna, both were cold and flavorless. Then the lounge waitress actually said they don't have a signature drink menu, but the website lists a range of cocktails I wanted to try. Oh well, we just moved on and spent our money elsewehere. One positive - their wine list is fabulous!

Pros: Location, Decor, Wine

Cons: Service, Loud, Food

Hey, we went to 33 after we visisted Bomboa last week (next door neighbors), and it was so cool! The decor, lighting, house signature drinks (a long exotic cocktail menu) were awesome. And they were STRONG!!! Deiniftely worth my dollars. TI think it's a cool idea for a restaurant to finish its dinner thing and turn it into a club thing....you can do both! We had already eaten by the time we went to 33 for drinks, but next time, I think we want to come here for dinner and stay around for the next action - do some dancing and more drinking. The lounge downstairs was so hot. I think this whole Stanhope street has everything Boston wants. The food menu looked awesome - definitely will come back to try the food.

Pros: strong cocktails, decor, beautiful people

Cons: better be dressed

food was just alright and i rate the restaurant below average because at close to $200 we expected MUCH MORE from the service. restaurant was clearly understaffed on a Sat night. took 25 minutes to be seated despite a reservation. even then waiter was MIA for much of night. hostess refused to attempt to call us a cab when we were done so we walked/stood in the rain for 25 minutes to catch one in copley square

Ratings_icons Among Boston's Very Best

barryo

We regularly eat in Boston's best restaurants, and 33 is as good as it gets. Interesting and imaginative dishes with wonderful - really wonderful - sauces and unusual accompaniments. Zesty, full-bodied flavors. Upscale, comfortable space with attentive service. We shared a scrumptuous crab cake appetizer and a yummy frozen caramel mousse, and in between we enjoyed two delicious entrees - a 5-spice tuna and penne lobster. Terrific. And don't forget to ask about the six arches.

I have eaten there before, and found it to be average. Now I think theres new menus, the desserts are amazing. Met the chef he was really nice. Had the 5 course menu and it was amazing. A dessert tasting at the end too. These desserts are definatly original. The service was great, the chef came with each course and chatted with us a bit.......really cool. Def go back!
