First off, I love bison and they have the best bison burger, hands down. It's really, really tasty, cooked perfectly, always juicy and they put this seasoning on it that really enhances the bison. Soooo yummy. They even butcher their own bison on site so you can buy ground bison by the pound and they give you a really generous container of seasoning to go with it.

If I'm at the mall, it's a good choice for a burger. Not sure why they have such a hard time getting it staffed with pros though. Even so, the burger is worth the sub-par service.

Horrible Service & VERY Rude Waiter!

My wife and I took my brother in law and my daughter and her friend to Ted's Montana Grill in Raleigh last week. We had a server named Kris, he started out being polite but that went down hill very fast. My wife and I (for the New Year) are getting in shape like most people try to do. We ordered a small cup of Chili to share. Kris brought us out a huge bowl of chili. I told him that "we ordered a cup and would like that if he doesnt mind" and he said "well I brought you a bowl just keep that, I won't charge you for it" my brother in law had ordered a BOWL of chili for his main meal. So I started to hand him the bowl and the waiter said "Please don't do that I will bring his with the main meal" and then he walked off into the back.

We sat and waited for about 30 minutes, several other tables were having issues with food as we noticed about 4 or 5 plates go back to the kitchen for problems. Kris finally came out and brought us all our food, he looked at my brother in law (who had been waiting for his chili) and said "We are all out of chili would you like something else" and this was after 30 mins and after we all got out food. My brother in law was very upset and just said "No, please don't worry with it" I looked down and noticed we had no chili on our burger and then remembered he said they were out. He also forgot our side items and acted pissed off when we told him he forgot. He was acting so rude I was actually afraid he was doing something to our food in the back.

After we got done eating and my brother in law got done staring at our food we saw another table get chili!! OMG, I thought they were out?! We asked another waiter and he said "oh, they must have had that order ready before we ran out" and this table had come in after us and after we got our food!

We were SO upset we asked for the bill. Kris (the waiter) ran over and sorta dumped it on the table and ran off again. I noticed he had charged us for the BOWL of chili my brother in law never got. I asked him to please remove it and told him it wasn't supposed to be on the bill. He JERKED (yes I said jerked) the bill out of my hand and said "well you know this isn't my fault, the manager was supposed to fix this) and walked in the back.

I finally paid and we got out as fast as we could. We were so upset about the night that we talked about it for the next few days and into next week, the experience was THAT BAD! I don't like to make a scene and I don't like to talk to a manager etc in the restaurant so I emailed corporate and told them my story. They said they contacted the manager and would get back to me ASAP. It is now 6 days later and still no word.

Also just so you know I am not one to EVER complain and I even tip a waiter if they are rude because I know they may have had a bad day or another bad table. This is the first time in 20 years I did NOT leave a tip. So I hope this review will help you with your decision to eat here.

Pros: NONE, Read my review....

Cons: Horrible Wait Staff, Rude, High prices

.

Abysmal service on both visits.
First visit service was seriously slow. Finally I left exact change after waiting for 20+ minutes just for someone to come and pick up my payment. But the food was good, so I gave the place one more try. On this visit, the following occured:
1)extra place settings were left on the table
2)each diner was brought the wrong plate with the wrong sides
3)1 delmonico and 1 strip were ordered. Bill came for 2 delmonicos
4)waitress standing at pickup window ran her fingers through her hair and then picked up a plate.
It's a shame, the food is superb, but the service is dreadful.

I just wanna start off with saying I got sat very quickly and was happy with that. the host though was not very friendly and got kind of a bad vibe to start everything off. But everything definitely turned around when our server came. It was a server by the name of Kyle; pretty tall, blonde, and a great sense of humor made me and my family feel right at home. He had awesome recommendations with the choices of our drinks and meals. The service was excellent. None of our drinks ever went empty and everytime he came to the table it was with a smile on his face. I will definitley be returning to see kyle and to enjoy the awesome food. GO BISON!

Every time I go to Ted's Montana Grill, I get the buffalo Burger. It is a great burger and I think better than a their regular beef burger. The staff has also always been pleasant and accommodating.

This experience was like eating in my grandmother's dinning room with great home cooked meals which included fresh veggies . . . a rarity in this region! I was with my mother and my young daughter (who received wiki sticks to play with!) so we were not the easiest group to wait on. Our waitress was very attentive and charming. We look forward to our next visit!

For a first time visit, I was not impressed at all! The waitress could not seem to get drink orders and checks straight. There seemed to be a major lack of communication between the kitchen and the wait staff.
I had to order 3 times because they ran out of the item I had ordered. When I received my meal the side item was wrong. The food was average, but the other five people at my table finished their meals as I started mine....
I really thought the manager would comp some of the meals at our table because they also ran out of my friend's first choice. When we received our bill I was charged for a higher cost meal than I had originally selected. What a mess! The manager offered to take $3 off the bill- which still didn't seem right. We were also charged for drinks that we had not ordered.
After some discussion the manager finally agreed to comp my meal. The waitress offered coffee on the house- big deal- I don't even drink coffee....
The manager was defensive and somewhat argumentative.....
The first visit will definitely be the last visit for us and our friends...
I usually don't have time to write reviews, but after last night's visit I felt like I should let others know what their visit might be like......

I've been to this Ted's Montana Grill at Triangle Towne Center a few times. The food was wonderful each time. The beer can chicken is great. This is kind of funny, but I think the buffalo burgers taste like meatloaf. :) They serve these weird, almost pickled-cucumbers that I could definitely live without. The company is environment conscious and serve straws made out of recycled paper - which can get mushy after a while. The service has ranged from okay to fabulous. I guess it depends on the time and person. This restaurant is definitely worth trying.

OK I'll admit I hesitated when I saw it on the menu but seriously the Buffalo Burger was Delicious! I also had the garlic mashed potatoes which were out of this world. Oh and you have to get a lemonade with your meal...freshly made there. Service was always fast and friendly. Would highly recommend this place.

My husband was dying to try this place because it "smelled SO good" whenever he went past it to enter the Triangle Town Center. So, when my father-in-law offered to take the family out to celebrate my husband's birthday, we chose Ted's Montana Grill. It had an interesting interior, sort of art deco, but not terribly fancy. I felt comfortable being there in casual clothes, with little kids. Our server was attentive and "upbeat," I suppose, but bordered on obnoxious. Mouthing off to the older gentleman who's paying the bill just doesn't seem like good service, to me, even if it is meant as "friendly." Leave the witty reparte to the comedians at Charley Goodnights and just bring me my food, thanks. The straws were paper (in keeping with the "1930s theme" we were told) and were soggy and completely useless by the end of the meal, which was frustrating. But, the bottom line was the unremarkable food. I couldn't even finish half my meal, which was bison roast. The potatoes were bland, the green beans cold and hard, and the roast upset my stomach. My husband and father-in-law had burgers (one had beef, one had bison), which were ok, but they agreed that they'd rather go to Red Robin. My kids had mac & cheese and chicken strips, which were exactly the same as any generic kids meal from any restaurant. You're better off going to Burger King for the kids meal - cheaper, healthier options, and at least they get a toy. The french fries were dry and tasteless. The best part of the whole meal was the appetizer of salt & pepper onion rings, which were large, thick slices of onion with a pretty good batter. But, I was amazed that they actually had SOUVENIRS for sale in a glass case up front. Do they ever sell any?

The hostess was nice and gave us a table in no time (of course, since the place was empty). A few minutes later a guy (who reminded me of a young Homer Simpson) named TODD approach our table and ask for our drink order. After 10 minutes he came back with our drinks, the cups full of crushed ice and didn?t even offer a straw for anyone. He took our food order and left, we didn?t see Homer, oops, sorry! I mean TODD until after 20 minutes, when he came back with our burgers. They were?not even O.K., I requested for some guacamole and a side of jalapenos, well, I?m not sure how to describe what Homer brought to the table: a 1 oz (one ounce) paper cup with a black puree inside, something that look more like mexican mole, he said that nasty looking thing was the guacamole, and another small paper cup with two miserable slices of dry jalapeno that apparently have been taking the sun for the past two weeks. When my wife asked for some fresh guacamole, TODD rolled his eyes over, as if what she had just said had been the worst offense, he stated in a very rude manner that the guacamole was fresh, just made that same morning, I guess that if you make some guacamole at 5:00 AM and serve it at 6:00 PM, well, you can say is fresh, right??? Just to let you know, it seems like they only refill drinks once and the refill time is 20 minutes, or at least that was our experience with Homer, I mean Todd! Very bad experience.

We wanted to try a new restaurant so we went to Teds. Not a good idea. Our drinks took 10 minutes to get to us. We requested bread and he brought out 3 tiny little biscuits. We laughed when we saw them. Our food came out about 5 minutes after we ordered it (warning! not a good sign). The mashed potatoes were crusty, the steak was litterally half fat, the chicken was dry, and the portions were tiny. Our server was also not attentive. Our drinks went empty several times for several minutes. Overall, it was not a good experience and we are definitely not going back.

The bison burgers are huge but service is slow and management is rude. (1)One evening I was told that the wait was 15 minutes. 1 hour later, we were still waiting. (2)I called in a to go order and arrived 20 minutes later expecting to see my food bagged up and ready to go. Wrong! They had waited to prepare my food until I got there so it wouldn't get cold. What is the point of me calling in food and sitting there while it cooks? (3)I ordered a meatloaf kid's meal (up to age 12) and received two 1"x2" charred slices of meatloaf, a spoonful of mashed potatoes, and some unidentifiable mush. Not even enough for a toddler. I called the manager and was told that they have a problem with adults ordering kids meals and they use small portions to discourage it. Holy Crap!!

I dine at the ted's in Durham twice a week, i have never had a bad meal in the year that i have been going there. I was afraid to try the bison, but the waitress was kind enough to get me a "free" sample of the bison pot roast. This has got to be the best pot roast that i have ever had. Enough said, hands down best rest. in Durham.... great staff, atmosphere and food.

To those who have posted poor reviews in the past- go back to Ted's, you are missing out! I have heard customers rave about the bison burgers- not only are they MUCH healthier than beef, but they have been compared to one of the US's best burger joints in Pennsylvania. Blue plates are spectacular, especially the meatloaf! The steaks are good; granted they are not Ruth's Chris quality, but definitely tasty! Plus, the new desserts are great (Kahlua brownie and strawberry shortcake). And in response to the review that stated Wendy's chili is better than Teds- WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Oh yes- the service is knowledgable, friendly, and efficient. EAT AT TED'S!

My husband and I just left Ted's Montana Grill, near the Streets at Southpoint in Durham, NC. We both had one of the worst meals we have eaten in years! My beef tenderloin, which I ordered "medium" had the consistency of a tough piece of leather My baked potato was under cooked, and the green beans had a strange flavor. Two of the three little brown-and-serve grocery store rolls were fine, but one of them was hard and had been left in the microwave too long. My husband's salmon was no better. Very dry. The waitress told us better luck next time. We will not return to this restaurant.

Let me start by saying that Ted's is truly a unique place. I have never been anywhere like it. Tin roof, checkered napkins, a plethora of condiments right on your table. It's a place to see. I'm a huge fan of the half sours, two of us usually go through three or four bowls during our dinner. The bison is excellent, and like Burger King, you can have it your way, because there's plenty of burger options. The meatloaf is also excellent- mad tasty. The service staff is good, and I do agree that you should get a side with the burger. Great place to try something totally new. Give it a shot.

Be prepared for an old-world dining experience at Ted's. Coca-Cola is served in classic, green-glass bottles, straws are made of red-and-white-striped paper, and complementary homemade "pickles" are brought to every table. The wait-staff wears uniforms and is impeccably trained in hospitality. And the food does not disappoint. Ask for a sample of bison and youll get a small bowl of chopped bison burger on toothpicks, on the house. It's so good they know you'll order one! Even the servers are enthusiastic about how great the bison is, which is delivered daily from Ted Turners ranch. The bison burgers are, quite simply, to die for. This is, hands-down, the best gourmet hamburger in the Triangle. Hurry to Ted's and try one! Youll be charmed by the atmosphere and enamored with the fare. (there are actually TWO Ted's in the area; one across from Southpoint and one at Triangle Town Center)

Pros: bison burger, atmosphere, service

Cons: a tad pricey

Chicken Fried Chicken...what is that? I guess it's fried chicken.
It's NOT! It's a very small piece of chicken beaten to a very thin
strip and fried in some horrible thick breading. It's not even like chicken fried steak but fried chicken. It's breading with a very thin
bit of some white meat then drowned in gravy. Infact do they
sell anything that is not drowned in gravy. Food in the midwest
is boring and plain. The food a Ted's reflects this very well.

Service was terrible. Even after stating to the manager, he came
over after I started stacking plates noisly, that we were ready to leave
I had to flag down the waitress for a ticket after waiting another 20 minutes. It's not that I want someone standing over me as I eat but at least she could keep an eye out and notice when we were done.

My boyfriend and I have eaten at Ted's twice now. We have enjoyed the food (Beer Can Chicken and Bison Pot Roast) and the atmosphere. I love the decor of the restuarant and in a weird way it smells like hay. It reminds me of somewhere you would have eaten at out West years ago. There is nothing like it that I know of in Raleigh. If you go in the summer, I would also highly recommend the Strawberry Shortcake, it's amazing. The onion rings are great too!

Until Ted's, Bison wasn't something I thought I'd ever try. I tend to avoid red meat when I eat out because I don't like the high fat, low health benefits that come with the meats many restaurants serve. So my first trip to Ted's was a pleasant surprise. I couldn't believe that a bison burger, which tasted better than any hamburger I'd ever had, could possibly be lower in fat and higher in protein and iron than my normal grilled chicken (I looked it up when I got home because I didn't believe them).
Although their fries aren't stellar, and the cucumbers aren't my thing, I still recommend this place everyday!
They'll make any sandwich with Bison, Beef or Grilled chicken, and there are numerous ways to dress up your burger, making it as healthy, or not, as you want. For the first time, everyone can splurge and leave smiling.

Other than the service being terrible (which may not always be so), the food just wasn't up to par. The bison meat is good, but there didn't appear to be any time spent on preparation, and the fries seemed to be the same as the frozen variety anyone can get at the supermarket. For the money, I expect a much better dining experience. Also, there is plenty more room on the walls for more "Old West" decor. The place looks pretty bare, like it was thrown together at the last minute.

They're the only place I've been around here that serves bison burgers..supposedly more lean and more protein than beef, but they're still either juicy or greasy(can't decide). Atmosphere is great, 1920's diner, and everyone is really helpful and friendly. Instead of bread as a starter, they bring half sours which are pickles taken out halfway through the process. It's a neat experience, and I recommend trying it at least once.
