Pros: awesome djs delicious cocktails

Cons: get packed

This is one of the best bars in Nolita. The music is always great, Bartenders are very knowledgeable and drinks are strong. Sometimes it can get too packed but it's good when they open up the back room. Crowd is hot-or-miss.

I had to check this place out after reading all of the HYPE on this Friday bartender and had an amazing time. Not only was she hot but she poured great drinks and was a lot of fun. I will be back next Friday!!!

I pretty much never post here, but I read some of the reviews on this spot and felt the need to respond. I've lived in the neighborhood for years and occasionally hit Vig for an aggressive night of drinking. Really that's what this place is all about. I read the reviews on the girl bartender on Fridays. If they're talking about the skinny, dark haired girl with the tattoo, that's kind of crazy. I??m a bartender and she??s actually really good. Pours very strong drinks, moves quickly (and is definitely hot).

It's gotten a little fratty, but what bar in the East Village / Nolita / LES hasn't these days? The music on Friday is a good mix and keeps the crowd happy. Most of all it seems fun cause the staff has fun and drinks along with the customers. Sign of great bartenders in my opinion.

THEN she was charging my friend 10$ for razberri stoli/sodas when the other bartender charged us 8$ WHACK!

Pretty crowded, standard fare for frat-college type bar trying to be cool My main beef is the bartender who basically stole money from . Gave $40, told me I only paid $30 for $26 tab without pause after I saw her stare at the money. Be careful - the bartender I'm talking about has a tatoo on her lower back on the right side. $10 isn't much I know, but it's really the principle.

THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE ARE FRIGGIN HONEST!!!

Four of us girls from Canada stumbled into this little bar with a bunch of guys on a Friday night and this place was packed with nice people and great music. Not only that, I somehow managed to lose my wallet and the Manager Billy was kind enough to return it to me!

We checked out a few clubs and bars in NYC and I had the best experience at The Vig Bar - hands down! Here's a bar that's made of friendly and honest people, great music, no cover, cheap drinks and crazy fun!

If you're in the SoHo area, you NEED to check this place out. NEED!

My cousin had a get together at this bar / lounge. Its small but great for afterwork gatherings. DJ played some cool mellow, mooded tunes. Can get crowded after awhile and people were waiting outside to get in.

Booked the back room for NYE 2008. Despite the negative reviews below, I found Billy (the bar manager) to be responsive. The drinks were mixed very well and he worked with me to put a TV in the back room to watch the ball drop. Very nice ambiance in the back room and my party thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Did not go smoothly entirely so I didn't give a five star rating. Food we were promised was not in the bar at all and I had to flag him down mid-party to make sure they went to a deli around the corner to rush 55 sandwiches to my party. Six hour drink deal without food on New Year's is asking for alcohol p0isoning, so they did their best to accomodate. As with booking anything, constant follow up is key, particularly with ownership that owns four of these bars in Manhattan. Will remember that the next time. Overall a positive experience and I recommend this bar for any night but a Friday or Saturday. Lines are around the block.

I cannot stress enough how awfully treated we were at this bar. My friends reserved the back room for a bday party and were told they had to have 50 people there by 10:30 or they would be charged $500. At 10:30 the bar was empty because 50 people were IN LINE, including the birthday girl. The bouncer was totally rude, saying crass disgusting things that even if the bar was packed, was totally uncalled for. He refused to let any guys in. The manager was just as rude despite the fact that we probably made up 70% of his bar for the party and were spending money at his bar. He kept insisting the bouncer was just "doing his job". This place is just horrific, this is my second experience with that bouncer and he was just as awful the first time. The bar has such potential if it could only fire its staff. I will never go back and certainly recommend people look elsewhere if planning a party.

Though I had been to this small (seriously--feels like a small two-bedroom apartment) bar before, I had never been to the bar on a weekend.

First, the bouncers were total a-holes. When asked if they could accommodate one female, one of them actually pretended to hauk a loogey on her and told her to get in the back of the line. After standing in the cold for 45mins with no movement, one person asked a bouncer how much longer they thought we were going to wait. He proceeded to tell us that we had only three purposes in life: to eat, go number 2 (although he used other words) and die. Then he told us to shut up. To boot, they were letting in random guys (??).

The manager was inconsiderate and unresponsive. Though he came out to randomly bring people in with him, he ignored people for the first hour we were in line. Finally a burly guy in the back grabbed his arm and asked him what the deal was. He claimed the bar was far too crowded to let people in--while he was coming out to find people to take inside with him. Overall douche.

Finally, someone on the 3rd/4th fl of the apt building overhead was throwing eggs down on the line for the 1.5 hours we were there.

Awful. Honestly, if service, courtesy and space mean anything to you, avoid this bar like the plague. I've never written a review before, and I hope I never have the occasion to do it again.

Pros: None anymore

Cons: Crowded, horrible bouncers and management, EXTREMELY small venue

This bar has all the makings of a wonderful place; however, the management is not the greatest-by far and large. There has been more than one instance where I have had to dispute charges. I want this bar to be great; that would be my reason for making the mistake for coming back. It's like a hot stove, I know I shouldn't put my hand on it, yet I do, from time to time. I would honestly warn people I know.

great bartenders, drinks, crowd. gets a little crowded at times, but it doesn't matter because the people who go there to drink are always in high spirits.

Been here a couple of times, gets really crowded late at night with a line to get in. Could never figure out why though. Lounge is a bit small, drinks are pricey per usual Manhattan standards, too many sweaty people in one space. I'd say it's a slightly above average lounge but I'd only go there if I was in the area.

before i moved away, this was my favorite neighborhood bar.
the bartenders are awesome, especially ron. the crowd is surprisingly unpretentious and friendly. drinks are made well and service is excellent.

try to avoid going on the weekends when jersey kids take over; my best nights there were weeknights...

This tiny space is reminiscent of an English pub--complete with nooks and low ceilings, only updated and modern. Get there early otherwise you'll be standing..if you do you can get a great seat at the bar. Precious space, not to mention bar tender!

This spot would be great if only they did not over crowd it! Good DJ spinning a variety of 80's. Chill laid back atmosphere but what's the deal with letting so many people in that you can't move without stepping all over people. And on top of that, with the zillion people there, there is only (1) waitress. This is a good spot to go early on in the evening, and I mean before 10p.

I had a birthday party here on a Saturday, and I called ahead to reserve tables and space for about 30 people. The manager said it would be no problem, but when we got there at 10:30, the place was so crowded that people could not move. Literally, there were no seats anywhere and people were standing on top of one another. The place was ok, but I'd never go here again on a Sat night or trust any reservations.

It is hard to find a non-pretentious , straightforward , but stylish bar where you can lounge the first half of the night , and party the second half , but I found it in the Vig .The music is great and the staff is incredibly nice , funny and sexy. It is perfect for parties , this is how I found it two weeks ago , and I haven't left! Ask for marcel, it's his gig , and he is the nicest guy you've met . Be selective when you tell people , we want to keep this gem ours !

Finally understand the hoopla surrounding Vig Bar. No attitude - in fact, quite the opposite. Joel is one of the nicest, friendliest bartenders I've ever met. He makes a mean vodka lemonade! The music was fun (80s) and the crowd entertaining - so all in all, a great time.

Vig bar is a reflection of the neighborhood in which it stands, it is compact, dark, and comfortable early in the week. As the week moves on, people literally pack into this hotspot for the bartenders and dj's, this is something which is hard to find in new york, people go places according to who has been spotted there. But at vig, it seems like the thing I spot most are people having an amazing time.
Vig is the best bar in nolita. hands down

I reserved the back room for my B Day 3 weeks in advance, the deal was if I had under 30 people the manager might put a couple people at one table, I had about 27 (more than 50, not at the same time) The manager ended up letting anyone in, it got so crowded and smokey in there that some of my friends were uncomfortable and left. To make things worse, they were not letting anymore males into the bar, so some people I invited didn't even get in. So I ended up partying with a bunch of rude people from sororities that ate my birthday cake. If I wanted to be around strangers for my party, I would have went to a bar that I knew had cool people and good music. I was very angry!

I was new to New York a few weeks back...and found The Vig by accident. The bartenders, bouncers and staff are great! They made me feel welcome and the drinks are fair priced...as fair as they get in NYC. Joel, another actress/bartender is a pleasure and full of energy. Clearly the locals and regulars all know her and she treats everyone with a warm Southern welcome (she's from Goergia) and a smile. Two thumbs up!
