i am sure it used to be a nice place, and is probably is a nice place unless you foolishly buy a promotional certificate - but then i would never pay $135 for a massage.
the massage was done by a nice Asian girl. i am 5'7 and 125

A massage is supposed to be relaxing. While booking an appointment I was treated so rudely on the telephone. There is no excuse for a spa receptionist not to start the experience by being pleasant. Honestly, if I hadn't already paid, I would have cancelled just due to the attitude received on the phone. One pays too much for these services for such to receive such a snotty attitude. I've worked in sales for a lifetime - and the client always deserves minimal respect, even if you are busy. Good luck Townhouse, because with your current employees you probably aren't getting many return customers.

I am a runner, had some knee and ankle issues, and had heard great things about the Grounded Massage here. First, the massage therapist- Sam- was excellent, as promised. Unfortunately, after booking the Grounded Massage, I got a call three hours before my appointment informing me that they had double booked my time, and that I was being bumped up an hour, and would be getting a shorter massage. I wasn't in a position to reschedule or argue, so I went with it. I ended up not being able to get the Grounded Massage, as I'd hoped, but got an excellent table massage. It did nothing for my running injuries, but I can't complain- Sam was very attentive to my back, which also hurt a bit, and did wonders for it.

Only drawback was they tried to charge me for my original 75 minute massage, before I corrected them, but otherwise the staff was lovely.

I had been going to this spa for a number of years. I had always enjoyed top-notch service and really loved going there. Then I had a really awful experience that I have never had before or since. Long story short, one day I went for my usual treatments but, during the second treatment, it became obvious that the spa was running behind schedule since another client was demanding to work with my technician (who was working with me). The receptionist, whom I had never met before, spent my entire treatment time popping her head in to the room to see how far along I was in my treatment or she would bustle in and out, straightening and restraightening the same magazines over and over as she hovered over me and the technician who was providing my service. Then this same receptionist pulled my technician off of my treatment and handed me over to ANOTHER technician to "finish me up!" So my original technician started working with this other client - a very self-important gentleman who simply couldn't wait for his treatment. And note that The Town House Spa was EMPTY save for me and now this other client. And there were plenty of other idle technicians that this man could have worked with but he insisted on working with my technician who was mid-treatment! So, after years of patronage, I took my $$ elsewhere. P.S. I wrote a letter to the owner of this spa to tell her about my experience but she didn't have the courtesy to respond.

I wanted to surprise my husband with something special for his birthday, so I got him a couple's massage. We redeemed it yesterday, and the service was fantastic! We were greeted by the nicest receptionists, and then offered snacks (they had these delicious yogurt covered preztels, mixed nuts with dried fruit, and tons more!) and beverages (holistic herbal teas) before our services. During the massage, the ambiance of the room was perfect....Townhouse pulled no stops! They had soothing music and candles everywhere. My husband received a deep tissue massage, while I chose the hot stone massage....both were fantastic!! Afterwards, we both took separate steams in the mens and womens changing areas...apparently I took a little longer than him to get ready, so he waited in the Men's lounge for me and watched ESPN! How great is that? They even had a relaxation area catered to men! I have to say, if you're ever looking to spend a romantic day with your significant other..this is exactly where you should do it!

I was referred to Townhouse through a friend of mine who highly recommended the Townhouse Glow Facial-which was the best recommendation I have ever gotten. I'm originally from California, and since the weather in NY has been unbearably cold, my skin has taken a huge toll-so I opted for the Glow Facial too...
As I was going through the facial, the esthetician addressed all my skin concerns, answered all my questions, all while provided an extremely soothing/tranquil environment....and as an added bonus they included a hydrating hand treatment! After the facial was over, I looked in the mirror, and noticed how my skin looked better than it had in months! No joke, this facial really does make your skin GLOW!!

I felt very warmly welcomed upon arrival. The waiting room was tranquil and had plenty of reading material but didn't appear cluttered as many waiting rooms do. The tea service and flavored water was also a nice addition. Every treatment I have had I left me feeling relaxed rejuvenated and recharged..which is optimal since I live at hectic pace. I also loved the selection of skincare lines,candles,make-up and teas so I can continue feeling great when I am not at the spa. I highly recommend this spa as opposed others because of the luxurious and tranquil setting as well as personalized service

I read about Townhouse Spa in NYmag and decided to give a massage a try.. I've been an avid massage recipient for years, but recently moved to the area and wanted to see what all the hype was about.. I got there 20 minutes early and since I had time to kill, was offered a hydrasoak to get me started before the massage.. I have to say this was an amazing decision because it really 'warmed' my body up to the massage and I was able to really feel the full effects of the massage...by the way, the masseuse was amazing! he was super attentive to all my problem areas and really listened to what I was looking to get out of it. Also, the facilities here are amazing..I was so tempted to sit in the steam afterwards, but had to run to dinner..next time I'm definitely going to reserve the whole day just for Townhouse!

After my stressful week at work I decided to choose Townhouse Spa to spend my relax weekend. I am a spa addict that i will get all my spa service done once a week but i have not find a WOW spa untill this weekend that i tried townhouse.
I choosed Signature package there which includes facial massage and mani pedi. When I get to spa i decided to add some wax appiontment which was a great choice that i made. the wax with SUNNY was painless. and my massage was unforgetably great.
I have to tell you that my skin looks great after my facial, within a day i had 3 people said my skin looks glowing which have not happened for a long time. Townhouse spa from now on will be my monthly visit place and it totally worth of the $ that you pay for.
BTW~they have a nice aromatherapy steam for you to use before and after the steam. and the staff is defeinitely well trained/experienced.

I REPEAT DOUBLE CHECK YOUR STATEMENT OR PAY CASH

i have never written a review before even when i receive bad service but the treatment i received at the townhouse spa was so bad that i had to sign up for an account to warn others.
1. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEIR TONE ON THE PHONE, THEY ARE NOT AS NICE AS THEY SOUND.
i had the unfortunate experience of dealing with them on my birthday. and while the facial and massage therapists were great, my nightmare started when i got to my manicure and pedicure. THERE IS A YOUNG GIRL THERE THAT DOES THE MANICURE AND PEDICURE, IF YOU MUST GO THERE AVOID HER AT ALL COST SHE WILL ABADON YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR APPOINTMENT TO GO ATTEND TO SOMEONE THAT SHE THINKS IS A RICHER CLIENT. SHE IS ABOUT 5"3 TO 5"5 and spanish looking. DONT SAY YOU HAVENT BE WARNED.
in the middle of my nails, she got up to go attend to another client the moment he came in, i guess she figured he would be a better tipper than i would. since i had a decent facial and massage i left a 30% tip for both the massage therapists and the lady that did my facial individually since the bad service wasn't their fault. but i guess the manager thought i was stupid because she then decided to add an additional $50 to my bill in addition to the tax, even though she was the same person that gave me a coupon to apologize for the girl's behavior. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN OF COLOR NO MATTER HOW NICE YOU ARE, STAY AWAY FROM THEM. THEIR TREATMENT IS APPALLING. I AM USED TO NEW YORK ATTITUDE BUT THE TREATMENT AT THIS SPA WAS ATROCIOUS.

If you're short on time let me give you my bottom line on this place up front: It's not the worst but it is far from great though it puts on a lot of airs.

My beloved manicurist is taking a month long break and I am using the opportunity to try a few places in the city just hoping to find an alternative nail salon for future reference if/when my regular manicurist is book or away. That said I read a ton of reviews on both Citysearch and Yelp and decided to give Townhouse a try because specific names were mentioned in relation to manicures (in the bigger salons I find it important to actually have a name as service/experience can differ between nail technicians).

Appointment process over the phone was find however the day of the appointment I received a voicemail message stating that my appointment was being pushed down 45 minutes because of some late appointments. No biggie and I arrived approx. 10 mins. early for my new appt. time.

I had specifically requested "Cindy" when booking the appointment only to be greeted by a "Sonia" in the waiting area. When I entered the nail lounge with "Sonia" I was a little surprised to see only one other nail technician working on a Saturday (maybe the reason my appointment was pushed back?); by the way, it turns out this other tech was the "Cindy" I requested. I can only surmise that the name I stated on the phone was misunderstood.

"Sonia" did a decent job on my nails though she was a bit over zealous with my cuticles and my right ring finger cuticle has a sore spot. Sonia did try to sell the paraffin add-on to me which was mildly irritating as I had already chosen the Townhouse Manicure, the spa's upgraded manicure at $22, I declined the paraffin offer. Polish application was just better than average.

All in all, nothing to say the experience was awful but given the price, nothing to stood out to make me feel I want to ever return. My search for an alternative good manicurist in the city continues...

I was looking forward to a great couple of hrs of relaxation, instead I left very upset. I got a great massage but the 1 hr only lasted 40 minutes. I then went to the facial room where I wanted a regular facial with extractions, 135.00. The facialist gave me a choice of a 195.00 or a 220.00 facial. I then asked her about a regular one and she told me that these were the two I wanted. $60 more? For what? It was the same one hour!!! The staff is obviously trained to mislead the customers in order to charge more. The facial was ok, nothing special and certainly not worth 195.00 plus tip.

When checking out I asked the very nice receptionist about the "packages" that were listed inside the spa. She would not give me this pricing as I had already booked it "a la carte." Very bad business in my opinion

I would not go back or recommend this place to anyone, but if you do go, make sure you know pricing in advance and be firm about it.

This past weekend was my first time at this despicable spa. I walked in and the front desk clerk had a rather nasty attitude. Shortly after, I was escorted to my 60 min massage. Let me tell you, I have definitely had better massages than the one from Townhouse. The masseuse failed to recognize where my sore muscles were and the massage was very unpleasant. It was not worth the $130 for a massage of such poor technique. The bathrooms were dirty and even the manager was as ignorant as her staff. Everything about that spa disgusted me to the fullest. Worst experience ever!

My boyfriend comes here all the time for massages and he treated me to a massage last week. We had some great lemongrass tea in lounge and went off to our separate locker rooms for a steam. We met in their couples room for a 90 minute massage. He was right- the massage was not only relaxing but the therapist really worked on loosening my tense mucles and also performed a stretching during the last ten mintutes that alleviated the pain in my lower back. We then had side by side buff pedicures which are pricer at $90 but it is the most thorough pedicure I've had thus far. They also have nice little treats like dried fruits, nuts and a large selection of magazines to read. The spa is noticably very clean all around.

I got the Grounded Massage on 9/18. The massage itself was really wonderful, but the masseuse started 20 minutes late and ended almost 10 minutes early. I would NOT recommend going here unless you are very attentive to the time. I know I won't.

Nice place, really good massage. Nice desk staff. The only drawback is that the "locker room" is also the waiting area. This part was not so relaxing. It felt a little weird changing after my treatment b/c there was a group of women there together all gabbing and waiting for their treatments.

Hi
I am just writing to comment on how good my experience is at the TownHouse Spa every time i visit it. There is something truly special about this place. From the moment I arrive I feel well taken care of. My skin care therapist, Katya, does a wonderful job each time i see her. She is both professional and very knowledgable which initially made me feel extremely comfortable in her hands, and her magic touch is deeply relaxing... I am definately planning to book her again and again for my next treatments. With all the choices you get here in the city you would be amazed how challenging it is to find a place that provides constant quality, but i think i got one...
What a wonderful overall experience! Thank you.

This spa has only been open for a year but in time it will have the reputation of having the best services by far. I have been converting my employees, relatives and friends one by one. They have the best facials and the massages are always good no matter who you go to. The front desk is always friendly and knows me by my first name. For such a big spa I always feel comfortable and intimate inside and it?s my hideaway after a long days work.

The inside of this place is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is extremely doting and gentle. My massage was probably one of the best I had ever had (Ask for Rachel) and my Ultra Luxe facial left my skin super smooth for weeks. I received many compliments on how my skin was glowing lately. The nail lounge was great to meet up with my friend after for a sandwich and a pedicure that didn?t chip for weeks. I highly recommended this place if you are looking for an upscale experience.

I went to Townhouse Spa for a facial this week after having walked by it several times. I was able to get a last-minute appointment, which I appreciated. However, I found the experience very average--the check-in staff seemed more like aloof hostesses at a nightclub, there is literally no waiting room/lounge so clients sit in the bathroom/locker room until their technician arrives, and I felt pressured to buy products at the end. Their "basic" facials are quite expensive given that they are only 1 hour long and don't include any "extras" like peels, microderm, etc. My esthetician was perfectly nice but not overly warm or detail-oriented. I like/need lots of extractions and she did very few--the whole point of a facial, in my opinion, since I can cleanse my face and apply a mask at home! I'd suggest going elsewhere.

This spa is truly amazing. its 3 floors, with a lounge, mani/pedi room, treatment room was spacious and tranquil. There is a separate Mens Spa which seems very cool (if you are a boy!) My massage made me feel like I was on another planet! So clean and new. A true find!

This is a full blown spa! Everything about Townhouse Spa is designed perfectly. The mani/pedi area is perfect for a group or individual. Great foot bathes, etc. The lounge are is great. They have a separate men's spa with lounge. The treatment rooms are beautiful, extremely quite and my massage was fabulous. If you are looking for a large, upscale spa with unique treatments, this is the place.

The exterior looks nice, but inside, the locker room is tiny. There's no place to SIT when they make you wait for a very long time for a treatment- and don't bother complaining about the long wait...the front desk staff will snap back with a comment like, "you should have used the steam room longer." My massage person was also my mani person...hmmm. There are too many spas in this town that dresses up to be something more than your run of the mill nail salon. Which is a bit of an insult to nail salons that charge 15 bucks and are actually GOOD... Needless to say, I won't be booking anything else at this place.

Pros: Staff performing actual treatment are courteous

Cons: Everything else

I received a gift certificate for my birthday and thought it would be fun to check it out.

Their website offers Eyebrow Threading. The truth is, they don't offer that service.
Their website offers UV Gel Manicures. The truth is, they don't offer that service.
Their website offers Hair Therapy. The truth is, they only offer men's haircuts.

Now I have a gift cerificate I can't really use. Think of them as an expensive massage place and not a full service salon by any stretch.

My wife raves about this place so I finally took myself in and was pleasantly suprised at the look of the place, It's coed and set-up to look like and apartment. I actually stayed for a massage and plan to return often. I would recommend this place to anyone whos looking to relax themselves for the day.
