5 Stars: Friendliest Margaritas in Town (by LonelyVileOne)

My guess is 'Traumatic' who had a bad experience here was probably being 'a pill'. My 'ex' and I used to frequent this place quite regularly a few years back and the owners and staff were nothing but over the top pleasant. Literally sweethearts to us all the time. And the atmosphere has been exactly the same the few times I've been back since then. The food is very dinner style oriented and tho' not being the best Mexican I've ever had, none the less hits the spot and was always consistent. In fact, my ex-girlfriend thought their burritos were the best in the city in her opinion! I would recommend this place whole heartedly. Also, even tho' it's South of Market, it's incredibly easy to get to. And their Maggies are killer!

4 Stars: The best chips and salsa (by Carye T.)

I LOVE their chips and salsa, always fresh. The service is great, though weekend nights do get pretty crowded. My favorite are the chicken enchiladas. Can't wait to go back

3 Stars: Fresh Mex (by Ben Y.)

This place has awesome fresh chips and salsa served for free. I tried their super burrito which was a bit on the high end price-wise, but the thing was huge and super tasty.. definitely adding Don's the monthly rotation of Mexican places to goto for lunch!

1 Stars: One of the Most Traumatic Restaurant Experiences I've Ever Had (by dianenathaniel)

To be fair, I'll start with what was right; the food was decent, and the drinks were adequate... Thats about it.

I've put up with some really ridiculous things at restaurants, but I feel that the way that my friends and I were treated at this restaurant was absolutely appalling. The staff (especially the manager) was condescending, and antagonistic, we couldn't even enjoy our meal because the manager was harassing us every 10 minutes with some aspect of their stupid policy. And the staff made no secret whatsoever that they were just interested in trying to get as much money as they could out of us (i.e- trying to charge us for people that weren't even there, trying to force our friends to order, etc).

Needless to say, I would not suggest going to this restaurant to anyone, unless I did not like them.

5 Stars: Best Enchiladas in Town! (by smithy11)

I had the chicken enchiladas and they are delicious. I have been to many Mexican restaurants and the setting, the food and the drinks are perfecto at Don Ramons. Huge portions, of course, and the guac is perfect and fresh. Yummy!

5 Stars: Best Mex in the City (by rickmm)

Don Ramon's has been a staple in my diet for over 25 year's.
Great food at medium prices.
Outstanding tequila selection.
I've tried every dish on the menu - never had a bad meal there.
We can always find parking - a big plus in dining out.

3 Stars: Best tex-mex in the city - best margaritas - full bar - great night out (by city1000)

Been to all of the "mexican" restaurants in the city. Don Ramon's is by far the best. Margaritas - not overpriced/perfectly made- are great. The enchiladas are by far the best in the city.

Staff is very friendly. Portions are large.
If you're looking for a place to sit and eat good mexican (tex-mex) style food - this is it.
Second runner up - long second - is Tommy's. Food at Don Ramon's is 10x better.

3 Stars: Average (by wrldtrvlr8374)

Mango margarita was yummy, and the refried beans were pretty tasty...but that's about it. Nothing else really stands out. I had the beef tamale. The food was average, the chips and salsa were average, everything else was pretty average.

One ladies' room upstairs is not so wise with two bars going on. The outside of the restaurant can be deceiving as it is very lively inside.

4 Stars: Tasty Mexican Food (by mark)

I have now been to Don Ramon's twice for lunch. The chicken enchiladas are outstanding and come with rice/beans and salad. In addition, the place is generous with the chips and salsa. Polite service and mariachi music over the stereo make it a fine place. Co-workers have shared that the margaritas are very good too.

5 Stars: Best Mexican Food in SF (by Blabich)

Don Ramon's has been my favorite Mexican place since I moved to the city in 1995. First, the service is fantastic and friendly, the food is beyond belief and the drinks never fail. This is no Taqueria, Don Ramon's is a place that you'll want to have several drinks over nice long dinner with your friends. This place is huge and can accommodate large parties easily. The crab enchiladas are truly amazing. Anytime I have visitors, I take them to Don Ramon's and everyone leaves full and happy.

2 Stars: Expensive Food, Bad Margaritas (by sf_joe)

Don Ramon's food is over-priced for what you get, but the margaritas used to make this place worth going to. I used to love their margaritas, especially their Cadillac margaritas. The last time I came here the Cadillac I ordered was undrinkable. It tasted like it was mostly a glass of acidic, artificially lime-flavored mixer. Although there was supposed to be a float of Grand Marnier in it was undetectable. I had to try to correct it by ordering a shot of Grand Marnier but it didn't do anything to it to tone down the acidity. It was barely drinkable after all the ice melted and diluted it.

5 Stars: El Rey of Mexican Restaurants (by smkowalski)

Don't let the sleepy outward appearance of this place fool you - walk in and you find yourself in a big, warm, bustling Mexican restaurant where the portions are HUGE and the food hits the spot. I got a beef burrito and even though it was absolutely delicious, I had to take home about 1/3 of it after I'd eaten all my stomach could hold. The service is good, and the margaritas are yummy, too. If you are craving good old-fashioned Mexican food, Don Ramon's is the place for you.
