Went here a few weeks ago with a couple of work friends. The bartenders were rude and took forever to take our orders and then took forever to give us our drinks, and when we finally got our drinks they tasted bad. Never ever going back

I highly recommend Brass Monkey if you are looking for a fun bar after work or anytime. Not pretentious, plenty of seating. The upstairs bar is much more spacious and open than the downstairs. The rooftop is awesome too so go early to snag some tables! the roof is great for daytime cocktailing in the summer! the menu is yummy as well. great burgers, fries, hummos etc. I threw a 30th bday party for my best friend at Brass Monkey and it was a real hit as well.

While the bar's decor has potential as a fun sports bar, the wait staff (specifically the females) were very rude. I was trying to have a good time and chat with my friends, but on several occasions two different waitresses were getting frustrated with the crowd and were having difficulty bringing food to another section of the bar. I was expecting a simple 'excuse me,' but instead they were making rude comments and getting very angry that the bar was crowded. I would have guessed that they would be used to the crowds, and even welcome them as it means more business for the bar! It was very difficult to have a good time with my friends as these waitresses were going out of their way to be rude to us. Luckily, there are several bars in NYC that we were able to move on to with much better service.

I used to hang out in the brass monkey alot a few years back but had'nt been there in a while,
i had some friends visiting and i decided i would take them to grab a bite to eat and a beer,
i said the brass monkey would be a great place to go becouse of its cool quiet location, OMG how wrong was i!!!
It was so crowded but we managed to get a table, we ordered food and drinks, crowds grew even bigger as the evening went on, two of my friends went outside for a smoke and next i get a call from my friend telling me that they have been refused re- entry, so i made my way through the uncomfortable crowd (fire hazard if you ask me) and asked what the problem was, the self proclaimed manager informed me they had'nt correct i.d which they had.
i tried to explain that we had been in there for some time and eating, plus still had a table inside but still no entry.
i returned back inside to explain to the rest of my friends what was going on then tried to resolve the problem one more time to find myself refused re- entry for bothering the manager, i had to call the remainder of our party and ask them to come outside to leave.
The brass monkey has transformed from an off the beaten track, cool spot into a totally commercialized dump with bad attitude!!!! seriously will never go back there again ever!!

Loved the place and food was pretty decent, but it got so packed that we could not move. Was there for a party and thank god we had a table. Otherwise it would have been a nightmare. However it looks great, everyone seemed to be having a good time. Music was great.

This is an always entertaining place for a hang or brunch. I recently was there on a Wed. or Thurs. and went straight to the newly opened roof. This is a friendly crowd and a lively one. Had no trouble making new friends and enjoyed a few drinks. Also saw the World Cup here and had a great brunch. Great place to start or continue in the expanding neighborhood, without the attitude.

I went to Brass Monkey on a girl's night out and love the space. Huge ceilings and beautiful wooden interior make this space beautiful and comfortable while promoting mingling. The rooftop bar is great but be prepared for a crowd.

All was great fun at this bar until we tried to close our tabs. After taking forever to acknowledge we were standing in front of them (mind you I'm a 6' blonde, kind of hard to miss), one of the bartenders on the second floor tried to way over charge me ($80 on a $25 tab). When I told him he was mistaken, that I'd said I was the only one ordering on my tab he insisted I didn't know what I had ordered, and that I'd never said that. He would only take 4 of the drinks off, and tried to make me feel guilty by saying I should be happy, I had gotten a free round out of it. Yeah, a free round that I never even drank.

Needless to say, anyone would be a bent out of shape by this. I don't want to write a review whining about how I got screwed and telling you never to go to this bar because we actually had a great time up until this point. So that said, all I will pass along is to be careful if you tell the bartender to "keep it open" when you hand him your card; he will probably try to add on a few assuming that you've most likely had a few too many and won't notice.

I went to Brass Monkey on Saturday night. We wanted to go somewhere that wasnt too Meatpacking and a bit more la*d back. The guy at the front door was really nice and let my buddy in who was wearing shorts...it was about a million degrees so i think he understood. The crowd was really good. Chill spot and cute guys. We went up to the roof top which was really packed but we carved out a little space for ourselves. One really awesome waitress even went and got drinks for us so we wouldn't have to go back downstairs. All in all great night and great bar. We will def be back.

This is what the Meat Packing District has always needed -a place for those that actually enjoy others company. No - it thankfully is not the place you go to see and be seen ( as I suppose was main problem the few who have called the clients here ugly had - maybe those that use those type of qualifiers should be forced to post a photo of themselves so we might all judge them as well.) Its a joint in the best use of that term. It feels like a REAL neighborhood place as soon as you walk through the door. Heads don't turn on a swivel to see "who" you might be. They are too busy enjoying each others company to bother. The food here is well above most pub food and the fish and chips are exceptional with a great bear selection. On spot bartenders that are friendly and attentive if you show up without attitude - its not that kind of place. For those of you that require that there are plenty of places like that in this neighborhood - PLEASE stay there and leave this rare space to the simple folk from the neighborhood and the like. Another up side to the bar are the ON SITE owners. Uncommon in this district where the owners of most of the places in the MPD rarely show their faces. Finally - coming down here at night wobbling in your 6"+ heels over the cobblestones and wearing the latest overpriced designer duds expecting a Meat Packing District experience- you will likely not find the Brass Monkey to your liking. But that's a shame - since it (along with Hectors and Hogs & Heifers) are what keeps the true flavor of this neighborhood intact.

Came to Brass Monkey w/a group of 30 ppl and we lost a few trying to find it. We were recovering from Home/Guestlist trying to charge us bottle service for every 4 ppl. The nite went really well at Brass Monkey... a lil wait for drinks b/c of crowd. The bar filled up so much that there was noooo room to dance and it was hard to find people b/c it is a big bar. Overall it was good and everyone had a great time.

Lauren from work suggested a handful of us go the Brass Monkey after work. She picked a good spot as the beer selection was execellent, appetizers tasty and the crowd was fun. The place has quiet spots for talking on the front porch and the front of the bar and gets much more crowded and louder in the back of the bar. I'd recommend this place for After Work or if you are interested in meeting new people.

Had my birthday here and not only were the staff courtious, but they had all the booths waiting for us reserved. We danced and basically owned the place- This would be a fun place party or not! GO GO GO. There are too many pertentious clubs in the meat packing district getting love- Give a good time bar some love!

Not only was the bar overcrowded.. its a lame scene of out of town yuppies, drunk bachelorettes and cheesy chesthair. the bud lites are $6 each and served by the rudest bartenders I've ever encountered in NYC. The music is cliche as well. This place is a must miss in the meatpacking district, trust me... not worth your time and money.... Unless you like watered down drinks and ugly people.

I love this bar. Me and a few co-workers go there after work from time to time and we always have a great time. #1 - they have the best beer selection in the area in my opinion. #2 - the food is really really good (they often have Calamari, but you have to ask) #3 - the crowd is relaxed and "normal".

Don't get me wrong, the bar is a good time! It's spacious, the atmosphere is great, and the music is alot of fun. However, I made three phone calls to plan a bday party, 2 weeks in advance. When I arrived, no one knew what I was talking about. I had 43 people come to a bar, thinking they were getting discounted drinks, and a roped off area...None of which happened. But would I go there on a weekend with a few friends? Absolutely!

This is a normal bar unlike the "trendy" clubs that you'd find in the Meatpacking District. There are a wide variety of beers to choose them. The food menu is a little limited. There's a front bar area and then the 2nd half of the bar has a big screen TV to watch games and the like. Prices are average ($5 for Coors Light). Good mix of people.

I agree about the gratuity applied to the bill for large groupsit caused confusion! They hope no one notices and tips extra. I noticed it and told my friend (who put the bill on his card) he still tipped a little more. The waitress came over and RUDELY said we didnt tip 20%. I told her it was already in there and she disagreed. I pulled out the detailed bill and showed her it was. I politely told her she got MORE than 20%...she walked away in a huff, no apology, nothing. Other than that, great place!

I had big hopes for this seemingly normal pub in the middle of trendinista central. The first time I visited was on a weeknight and it was relaxed and enjoyable. The next time was with a large group for a party and I guess the word was now out that this un-scene was now the new scene. After dinner and drinks it took half an hour to walk to the bathroom from the front room. There were multiple mistakes on food orders and when the bill came, most drinks were priced a dollar more than they appeared on the drink menu. Also, since we were a large party, a gratuity was added (standard procedure, no doubt) but it was the first line item on the check and not the last - placed there perhaps in hopes that most folks wouldn't see it and then possibly double-tip.

The crowd was really friendly despite the fact that it got more and more packed as the night went on. I went with three of my girlfriends and we had a great time. The crowd seemed to be a mix of gay/straight so there were plenty of cuties for anyone's tastes... Beer selection is awesome!

We ordered drinks (stoli tonics) and got TONIC. We complained and got slighty better drinks, our second round the SAME thing happened. The crowd is a bunch of Carrie/Sex & City wannabes , and guys with patterned french cuff shirts from Club Monaco who think they are neat hanign out in Meatpacking Dist. SEnd these new meatpacking bars to SOUTH BEACH where they belong.

Forget those trendy, pretentious bars/lounges. For all of you that are tired of 'the scene' like I am this is the place for you! There is no hassle at the door, the inside is really big so it doesn't get all packed and sweaty and the crowd is attractive and fun. This is my new favorite spot!
