I have been going to Graceful Services for several years and I always get a dependable, solid deep tissue massage. I need a pretty strong massage and the staff have been able to deliver. The place is no frills so don't expect to be pampered, but if you have sore muscles it is good value for Manhattan.

Massage
by Superman007
I had two massages at Graceful Services. I recall the first time when I came, the woman behind the desk wasn't friendly at all. She just told me the price and had me pay.
The first massage I had was very good which brought me back a second time despite the unfriendly receptionist. Unfortunately, the second massage was low quality. There were also sick people coughing and making all sorts of noise whilst I was there. I left very disappointed and won't return.
Pros: Price
Cons: Not very welcoming

Horrific Experience ...NEGATIVE 3 STARS!
by JK1230
This was the worst experience I have ever had at a "spa". This hole in the wall should not even be considered a spa. Upon your arrival you are asked to pay and are informed that if you pay via credit, you will be charged a service fee. You are then guided through a tiny hallway to a room which seperates you from the person next to you only by a shower curtain. You are then instructed to disrobe, in the few inches of space you are alotted, and place your belongings in a plastic bin which you then place under your massage bed. My masseuse came into the room and could not have been ruder. She started rubbing her elbows on my back in a circular motion, that wasnt the problem, the problem was that she was rubbing so fast I felt as though she was rushing to get somewhere. She then proceeded to "massage" my back with the dropletts of oil she would drop into her hand and would continue to deeply rub my RIBS and my SHOULDER blades! I felt as though I was in a torture chamber! My body was tense during the entire session, which was supposed to be 50 minutes and was not more than 30! The moaning of the man on the other side of my shower curtain, whose table was about 1 foot away from mine, just added to this horrific experience. This place is not even worth the reduced spa week rates! I will make sure to put it on my list of places I will never return to. I just hope im not bruised tomorrow!
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: EVERYTHING

I love Graceful Services
by lollynyc06
I actually worked at Graceful Services for a couple of weeks back in like, 2005. The job wasn't right for me, but when I started getting upper back pain a few years later, they became my saving grace!
After trying out a few more expensive places that charged between $90 and $120 for an hour on the table, I remembered that in 2005, Graceful Services charged $60 for the hour. In 2008, it was still the same. I now go at least once a month. They seem to be almost always open (hours are 10 am to 10 pm) and if I'm in a lot of pain, I can call the day of and get a time that I want. With many places I found that I had to call a week or more in advance to get a time I wanted. By downsizing the glitz you get at a spa, Graceful Service is able to squeeze in more beds and therefore, more clients. It is a no frills operation. For those who like the spa atmosphere, this isn't it. Your room is literally just the bed with a foot of space surrounding it, separated from the other beds by a curtain. But if you want a good strong massage, you won't be disappointed.
My one gripe would be the hot towels used...because they don't have a locker room or showers, you get a kind of wipe down with wet towels when your massage is over, to get rid of the oil. The last time I went, the towels used were SO hot, I felt like I was getting third degree burns. It was pretty excruciating. But then, they take the towels off, and you're suddenly freezing with just the sheet over you. So that's a little odd, but I guess better than spending the rest of the day with oils all over your body.
All in all, Graceful Services is a great, inexpensive place to go to de-stress. I've recommended it to many of my friends who have also loved the experience.
Pros: great massage, cheap
Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Not for Spa-goers
by JfSantos07
This spa is not worth all the hype. There are many more inexpensive spas that have more room / amenities and obviously many more costly ones that actually feel like you're being pampered. This place just made me feel like I was cheap and reminded me that some things are worth paying more for.
Pros: Not Expensive
Cons: Not a Place for Thorough Pampering

Very Good Massage but Watch Your time ...
by AmieBelle
Massage was very good. Place a little cramped and they are definitley cheating on time. I paid for an hour but got 45 minutes of massage. I know it takes time to get ready for a massage and after to get dressed but I was there for my 3 o'clock and was out of the room before 4. Been to other spas and they give you what you pay for. Overall the massage was good and people were very friendly. Watch the time

The WORST wax EVER!!!
by GothamGirl007
I have been to many places in the city and elsewhere for waxing and have NEVER had as horrible an experience as I did at this place. First of all, it took forever--over 2 hours--which is ridiculous! Second, it was incredibly painful--and no, I don't mean normal painful the way it is every time you get waxed. To top it all off, it wasn't even a thorough job!
I have never posted a review before and really felt like I had to to try to save someone else from a horrible, horrible experience. Definitely would NOT go back for any service.
Pros: None!
Cons: expensive, poor results, painful, took forever!

All around bad place for a massage
by crysangela80
I was very disappointed with my recent experience at Graceful Services. I was expecting a little more for my money considering this an "award winning" spa. The website pictures are very deceiving, so definitely don't expect the relaxing decor or environment that is portrayed. The room was insanely cramped and it took me a while to figure out that I needed to put my plastic box of belongings under the massage bed. There was no room to just put it on the floor, so that was an interesting task. The "rooms" are separated by curtains and I could literally see the impresson of the masseuse next door as she manuevered around the cramped spot. Although there was relaxing music, it was usually muffled by the loud noises in the hallway and the hot stone treatment in the room next door, which was very distracting.
The massage in general was not good, to put it nicely. I'm not sure if it was the environment, but I just couldn't get comfortable. Like the woman who posted before me, I have scoliosis and this masseuse just couldn't get it right. I'm actually in more pain now, than I was when I went in.
I definitely do not recommend this place. Spend a little more money and go to a spa where they have real rooms and better trained masseurs.
Pros: Price
Cons: Cramped spaces, no closed rooms, noisy, poorly trained masseurs

Really not that good
by mbowbyes
Not quire sure why it's award winning when you get the same massage everytime, regardless of what you tell them before hand. I have scoliosis, so massage therpay is regular for me, and I find that they never focus on your knots here. They have this routine they all do, and that's all they do. They can djust the pressure, but they don't really understand much about pressure points to deal with various knots or issues - or at least they havent proven so in any of my treatments. They might touch on a knot, but they're not very dedicated to getting rid of it.
English is not their forte, so sometimes it's like talking to a brick wall. Cheap and cheerful, but not very well customized to your needs.

My fav place in the city!
by haydenlove1
I go to Graceful Services once a week. Being that I am planning a wedding, I get so stressed out and it seems like everyone really knows what they are doing at the spa. No, it doesn't have the best "look", but it's the best massage I have ever had and I am lucky I can afford it so often!!
Pros: perfection!

45 minutes for $50 plus tip, the woman worked out all the knots on my upper back. I fell asleep and woke up relaxed and the best part is, they took my appointment 30 minutes before, when I called after finding them on City Search.

Great customer service
by stytown
Last week I went to Graceful Services for the first time. My friend suggested I take advantage of Spa Week and treat myself to a Hot Stone Treatment Massage and a Facial Massage. Upon entering, I was greeted by the receptionist immediately who was friendly and attentive. My therapist was very knowledgeable, making every effort to make me feel at ease and comfortable for the duration of the massage. She was very efficient and so polite. I felt so pampered and relaxed . What a wonderful experience ! The service ,massages, staff and cleanliness are excellent. Five stars to Graceful Services. I am looking forward to my next visit.
Pros: pleasant staff, clean premises
Cons: little privacy

Spa Week
by Nissun
Recently I had the good fortune to find myself at Graceful Services. My neck and shoulders had been bothering me so I decided to treat myself to a good massage. I entered the second floor spa and was greeted by a courteous receptionist who asked me to have a seat and offered me a cup of water. Minutes later I was introduced to ?Ying? ? who was to be my therapist for the session. I followed her to a room with a few massage tables which were separated by curtains. I have been to many ?Qi-Gong? spas before so I knew more or less what to expect - subdued lighting, hushed tones, etc. Here the atmosphere was similar, but more professional ? almost clinical spa environment. I was given a towel and my therapist drew the curtain and waited until I was undressed and comfortably situated on the table. After a few pleasantries, Ying went to work. She expertly kneaded and manipulated my shoulder and neck muscles, focusing on the source of my discomfort. Her touch was firm and deliberate. It was as if she knew the exact spots to address. Before long I was floating in a state of complete relaxation, almost a semi- sleep. All the cares of the day melted away. Ying continued to work her magic until an hour had passed, time seemed so short. Ying signaled to me that my massage was finished and slipped away. I would have stayed another hour or more if I could. Getting dressed, I felt invigorated ? rejuvenated! I felt great! I forgot all about my neck and shoulders. I wondered to myself, why don?t I do this more often? I?m worth it, and the price is certainly reasonable. I was told that Ying does a great ?Hot Stone? treatment and an excellent facial as well. I promise that I will try them both in the near future.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Graceful Services during Spa Week. The wonderful ambience combined with the talent and skill of the therapist, make Graceful Services one of the best places in New York to get a great massage.
Pros: Convienent to Bloomingdales and the great shopping around it.
Cons: I would have liked to extend my session, the next time slot was already booked.

Anything but "graceful"
by Seerikin
Please do NOT waste your money or time on Graceful Services. It was the farthest thing from relaxing or graceful. Yesterday I got a "spa week" hot stone massage. It was the worst massage I?ve EVER had. The massage therapist was very rough and abrupt in her movements rather than being fluid and gentle. She didn?t work out any knots. It felt like she was in a rush. I usually like a harder massage but she was downright abusive. The paper covering on the table crackles in your ear throughout the service(not relaxing). When she was at the head of the table, she would bump my head as she rubbed my back. I told the therapist that the stones were too hot but she did little to cool them before using them again (still too hot). She used the stones to rub my back rather than placing them at my energy points at the end of the massage (customary method). Finally, I just asked her to stop using the hot stones since they were burning my skin and to continue with a regular massage which was awful. Overall, it was the farthest thing from relaxing. I should have just stopped in the middle but thought things might improve. I spoke to the manager/owner afterwards who only said that the therapist had worked there for 4-5 years and that she would try training her. I?ve since cancelled my body scrub appt for this afternoon for fear that I will have no skin left due to their rough techniques. The curtains don't bother me but the therapist doesn't warn you before opening the curtain to ask if you're ready (i was half dressed). The people were definitely nice but it does little to make up for the subpar massage techniques. Its a shame b/c I had a massage here 1 1/2 years ago and don't remember it being bad. Seems the quality has declined dramatically since they won "Best of Citysearch". I just don't understand how they won that award. There are plenty of places that offer excellent massages at only slightly higher prices. Try one of them instead!
Pros: Last minute appointments
Cons: Rough, rushed, don't speak English, no privacy, not relaxing, very poor technique

No, thanks.
by endofanera
I went to this place with my friend today for a simple 30 minute massage, which we were both pretty excited for. We went in to see that there aren't any actual rooms (none that I saw, anyway), but areas separated by curtains. To see if I was done undressing and under the sheet on the table, the woman simply whipped open the curtain and asked, "are you ready?" instead giving me a decent shred of privacy. Honestly, 90% of the massgae was uncomfortable or painful. It made me wonder how well she really knew anatomy because she was crushing the hell out of me, and not in that 'good pain' sort of way when you get a great massage. Instead of evenly distributing massage time on different parts of my back, she worked my trapezius muscle so much I thought it would be sore until next year. I even asked her to lighten up a little--and I have always like a good, hard massage--but she didn't listen at all. Thank God I used my credit card reward on this because it was not worth the $40.00 they normally charge. Other than that the staff was pretty friendly, but that didn't make up for the experience. My friend and I were pretty disappointed.

Never Again During Spa Week
by sista314
I visited Graceful Day Spa with a four other girlfriends during spa week about two weeks ago. After making an appointment well in advance, we arrived to find that the we could not have the services we planned. Instead of having two body scrubs and two hot stone messages, one of us settled for a horrible body scrub. For starters, during my body scrub, the staff talked to each other over a curtain and only stopped at the request of the clients. Continuing, after being scrubbed, the staff member insisted that I walk through the lobby, in a very cheap towel to take a shower. When I refused, she quickly found warm hand towels to attempt to remove the sugar, which did not help. I went home having to quickly shower to remove sugar from quite a few places, that shall remain nameless. Aside from an atmosphere that leaves a lot to be desired and an overworked staff, the services provided to the four of us made us not want to return. The pictures on the website were quite misleading as each massage table is separated only by a curtain. Needless to say, we will never return to Graceful. The staff at Graceful should strongly reconsider participating in Spa Week, as they cannot accommodate the demand. For its location, we expected a lot more.
Pros: None
Cons: Atmosphere, Location of the Showers, Overworked staff, spa tables, no gowns, cheap towels

Amazing Graceful Services Massage!
by dsvt
Last Sunday I went to Graceful Services for the sixth time (over the last few years). I have been having pain and extreme tightness in my lower back, hips and thighs for about six weeks. I have been seeing a chiropractor and doing stretching exercises every day, and still, I have had to take a pain reliever most days. It occurred to me yesterday that I had not felt that pain since Sunday (five days earlier!). I was so happy I wanted to write a review!! I love Graceful Services! I have never been treated badly there, and it is true that it is not a luxuriously pampering, high-end massage. It is a soothing, effective, therapeutic massage. From my experience, I have found the therapists there to be consistently good. Whenever I go there, I feel like my body has been "ironed out" and I feel totally relaxed. The results really kick in, though, after the second day for me. A tip - It really helps to communicate exactly what you want - problem areas, desired pressure - and if you are uncomfortable, let them know. I would go to Graceful Services much more often if I could!

Sorry, this is one of those things I pride myself on...never -- ever -- share the good spots on Citysearch. (It'll get too crowded before you know it, and poof! you're out of luck:) However, I was skimming for a pedicure referral and (of course) had to 'visit' Graceful Services on Citysearch, when I saw a bad (1 star) review. I don't how it's possible to have a bad experience there. If I had time to go every week I would. AND I could afford it. AND not feel guilty about it. NOTE: they've started to upscale at their upper east side location. I, the middle class (hey - it's NYC), worry the prices will start to rise. The massages rock - and they always deliver. I prefer my massaged deep - they really get the kinks out of my nerdy computer arm. Thinking about it makes me really want one. Sigh. So, remember: this is not a fluffy white robe kind of place. (Don't worry - super clean.) It's really going to make you feel better. Enjoy!
Pros: Skill, Value, Near transport
Cons: None. I wish there was one in my neighborhood.

Graceful Services provides the best massages I have ever experienced. Their Qi Gong technique is unmatched anywhere outside of China. All aches and pains are wiped away and stress disappears. It's a warm and friendly place, not the least bit clinical. And the price cannot be beat.
I highly recommend it.
Pros: highly skilled, effective, reasonable cost, friendly, late hours

I cant believe the name of this place is graceful services, it should be called abusive services, sadly but truly this was one of the most horrible therapy sessions I even recieved. I felt more beat up after I went then I did before I was there. I felt pressured to leave, the therapist didnt even seems like they wanted to work with me and the atmosphere needs some work.
Cons: Unpleasant therapist, noise, atmosphere

I will definitely be back for this combo again soon.

Best Massage in Manhattan!
by yoyoash55
I walked into the spa and was greeted with a huge smile and very nice and accomodating receptionist. I went in for my massage and the facility was immaculate - my therapist was so good! I was very relaxed and had an amazing massage. I went in for 60 minutes and definitely got every minute's worth! My therapist really spent the time to work out all of my many knots and kinks. I would definitely recommend this spa to anyone who wants a massage that is worth the time and money. I would go back again in a heartbeat - by far, this is the best spa for a massage in all of Manhattan!!
Pros: attentive and skilled therapists, fair prices, quality far exceeds the price you spend!
Cons: i wish the massage lasted forever!

Good For a Budget
by asian23
I took advantage of a May special Graceful Spa was having and the price was great. However, I am used to being pampered and feeling "like a Queen" when I go to any spa, which is not what you get at Graceful Spa. Don't expect your traditional massage for relaxation, it is a Chinese massage w/lots of pressure points and some pain.
There are no individual rooms, just one large room separated by curtains, and I felt rushed to get the massage started as the massage therapist kept standing outside my curtain asking to come in. There are definitely no frills but if you don't care about that, this might be the place for you.
Pros: Good technique
Cons: No individual rooms, No Frills, You Feel Rushed

I was kind of skeptical about graceful spa after reading some of the reviews on this site. I reconized that the pro's out weight the con's so, I gave them a shot.
I must say; I was rather impressed with their massage. The staff was friendly and the sound of silence filled the air. There was not much to the decor of the spa or any champange but, the massage was superb.
Pros: Inexpensive, Quality massage
Cons: No frills

this place has gone downhill!
by user79
I have been a client of graceful services for 2 years. At first, it was great, wonderful massages and a good bargain. I must say that the last 5 times I have gone - it has been getting worse and worse. Last time I went was HORRIBLE, the massage was more like a soft rub. This place has gone downhill. I am no longer going to give them the benefit of the doubt just because they used to be good. Too bad. Also- I paid for an hour and at the end of the appointment I checked the time- my massage was only 45 mins. Honestly- I was happy for it to be over that I didn't even care.
Pros: used to be good
Cons: no longer is

Graceless Service
by golightlee
A friend booked us massages last Saturday. When we arrived they had 1 appt, not 2. We were told to wait. After 5 mins they said they could see me, then my friend. More waiting. Finally a manager came out & said not only could they not fit us both, they couldn't even accomodate one of us! They could fit us both 4 HOURS LATER! The offer was inconvenient at best so we declined.
The reply - NOTHING - the manager just walked away. I asked for a refund on my cc, the reply again - NOTHING. The receptionist grabbed my card & said 'sign here'.
Scheduling errors happen. Being rude & unprofessional shouldn't. Not once did we receive an apology.
I'd heard great things about the place, however, it was always about the price, never the service, which I've discovered now is graceless. You get what you pay for.
Pros: Price
Cons: Rude Service, Crowded, Dingy

I thought this place was great. There is nothing fancy about it (there has to be a reason the prices are so low), but it is still a quiet, peaceful place with soothing music. The receptionist was lovely and helpful, and my masseuse was no joke--she attacked my knots and muscles--and she managed to work out the majority of my knots and aches. I will definitely go back again and recommend it to friends.

I visited this spa for the first time the other day for a one hour massage and it was amazing. I was very impressed with the easy flow of this spa considering its small space. I also enjoyed the fact that I was not pressed to buy products after my massage, because there are not any there to buy. This business focuses on excellent massage, so if that's what you are looking for I highly suggest it.
Pros: inexpensive, great massage

I went to this place 3 times. Their regular and Hot Stone massage were great. However, the third time, I was not that impressed. Hands of the masseus are so rough. I couldn't relax for the whole time because I just felt like a cat scratching my back and didn't know what to tell her. I tried their facial but was very disappointed because they are not using anything special prodect. I that they just bought regular products from Duane Reade and used it to clean my face and she massaged too much. I ended up waking up the next morning with the dark spot under my eyes because she kept rubbing it there and my skin feels exactly the same.
Highly recommended for massage not facial.
Pros: Great Price , Great massage
Cons: Bad Facial , Bad product

Not worth it
by goodtimes9
It's pretty interesting that the name of this place is Graceful Services since the service is anything but. I went here for the first time a couple days back and the first thing I noticed was how angry the masseuses looked. Not sure why. They really didn't make any sort of effort to be nice or make any eye contact. The massage itself was average, I've definitely had much better massages in the city. Also as the other review said, I think they are cheating on the massage time here. I believe there is another location on 14th Street, perhaps they treat their customers better over there. I will not be returning here.

A Deep Massage
by jc200
Staff is very friendly. Receptionist answered all of my questions as it was my first time for a massage. The masseuse was also very accomodating. As for technique, I kept asking her to use less pressure but she spoke very limited English. I was in so much pain throughout the massage that I had to grit my teeth. Also, Im extremely ticklish and my muscles kept tensing because of this. I spent the night tossing and turning because of the pain. The muscle ache didnt start to fade for a few days after and during those days of healing, I had limited movement and very little strength. Im a very small woman, 410 tall and 105 lbs and that much pressure can, and did, bruise me. On the other hand, my boyfriend felt wonderful afterwards. Its definitely not for everyone. Consider your own threshold, strength, and intensity levels beforehand.
Pros: inexpensive, atmosphere
Cons: masseuse not good, rough massage

We all have long and tiresome days and sometimes it takes a little "pick me up" to help us through the day. I received this when I went for a 60 minute massage at this spa. The massage was great and the atmosphere was so pleasant; imagine soft music playing in the background while someone rubs out the stress of your day. I can say that I had a great experience at this spa and would recommend it to anyone looking to escape from their busy life...... if only for 60 minutes.
Pros: Good price

I received a great massage at Graceful Services the other day. I didnt even have an appointment and the staff seemed to work really hard to accomodate me. I can definitely say that I received a great massage at a great deal, as a hour massage is only $60. Only in New York I guess can you find such a good thing.

Don't Waste Your Money
by twinkiegirl
I got couples' massage with my boyfriend. They made us pay up front, wait 10 minutes, cheated us out of time (it was supposed to be 90 minutes but was 85), and hustled us out to usher in another couple. After the massages, the masseuses hung around, clearly waiting for tips. When we gave them each 10%, they snorted and rolled their eyes. They also threw the curtains open while we were undressed.
Afterwards, one of the masseuses told us to go out a side door, but we were still half dressed and hurriedly trying to get our clothes on. Then another couple came in, she slammed the door shut and yelled at us that to go out the back, because we'd waited too long and hadn't left quickly when she told us to.
I wasted $195. I can't believe this place is rated so high. Don't believe the hype.

Great massages, but skimping on time!
by skindoc98
I've been going to Graceful Services for 2 years. The massage is still the best in NYC, but recently, perhaps as they got busier and more popular, the 60 minute treatments have been cut 5-10 minutes short. The attitudes of the staff has also made a turn for the worse - less attentive and less polite. Hope the fame doesn't get to their head and they continue the great massages and service.
Pros: great massage
Cons: short on time

It's a winner.

Graceful Services is the best value for a massage. They know what they're doing. I would highly recommend a visit.

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE
by delasoeul
You get more than what you paid for at Graceful Services. It is small , great, and the therapist know exactly what they are doing. I feel as if I can walk on air. When i walked out. I have been there many of times and I will continue to give them my business.

Don't expect to be pampered. You bascially lay onto the massage table and they will do the work. I felt soo refreshed and relaxed after the massage.
Pros: value, professional

Awesome Massage
by shoppergal
I am always in search of the perfect massage. I think I have finally found it. For $60.00/hour...you will have an amazing massage. However, if privacy is an issue for you, only a curtain separates you from the client next to you. But, I never seem to have trouble relaxing here and tuning everything else out. It's extremely clean and there is peaceful music to help you relax.
One word to the wise though...the form of massage practiced here is similar to that of a deep tissue massage. They target any knots or points of distress. And some of the techniques even hurt. But, don't be afraid to speak up. You may even a little sore the next day. But after a few visits, you will definitely notice a difference in how you feel.
Definitely give it a try!!
Pros: awesome value, skilled technicians

Excellent massage and value

If you come prepared for a bare bones experience and want a really good massage - you will be delighted. With the affordable price, you can get double the healing as a fancy massage. We are regulars and are never disappointed! One suggestion, bring your own oils or lotions if you'd like to add a little extra touch. Great hours too!

Bare Essentials, But Great Massage
by miamisuperstar
If you want to be pampered or have a typical cushy relaxing spa experience, this is not the place. If you want a great massage and dont mind a lack of privacy, this is the place for you. You will get a great massage!
