1 Stars: HOPE THAT THE COMPANY PAYS (by CMike)

I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE RESTAURANT WEEK OFFER. THE APPETIZER WAS GOOD, BUT THE ENTREE CONSISTS OF A PIECE OF MEAT, 1 SMALL SHORT RIB. THE DESSERT WAS A 1 INCH SQUARE PC OF CAKE. IF YOU WANT A FULL MEAL, THE MINIMUM IS ANOTHER $20. THE $35 DEAL DOUBLED TO $70 BY THE TIME I GOT OUT OF THERE.
THE GROUP OF 3 MEN AT THE NEXT TABLE CAME FOR BEERS, BUT WANTED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXPENSE ACCOUNT. SO DID THE WAITER. ONE ORDERED A 2.5 LB LOBSTER, BUT THE WAITER CAME BACK STATING HE ONLY HAD A 3.5 LB LOBSTER. THE FOOL ORDERED IT AND THE WAITER CATERED TO THE MEN, OFFERING REFILLS ON THE DRINKS BEFORE THEY WERE FINISHED.
THE LAST MEAL I HAD WAS IN TIMES SQUARE, IN A RATTY OLD UPSTAIRS LOCATION FOR MY BIRTHDAY. THE WAITER WAS EXTREMELY RUDE. IT WAS LATE, SO THE SPINACH & MASHED POTATOES WERE COLD. I GUESS THEY STARTED TO SHUT THE KITCHEN DOWN. THE TOTAL COST FOR 2 PEOPLE, $170 BEFORE THE TIP.
THE FOOL THAT WROTE A GOOD REVIEW STATING HE SPENT $350 FOR 2 PEOPLE COULD HAVE HAD A MUCH BETTER MEAL AT DEL FRISCOS.

2 Stars: Not worth the price (by dnl1219)

After reading several reviews my friend and I decided to go to Frankie and Johnny's for restaurant week. We were greated at the door and sat upstairs next to the fireplace which has a nice atmosphere. The waiter promptly took our drink order and returned with the wine. He then disappeared for quite some time. He finally returned and I ordered a shrimp cocktail and my choices off of the price fix menu. Now I have to tell you that the entree comes with absolutely nothing. I had ordered the petit filet mignon, a baked potato and a side of broccoli with the holondaise sauce. My friend ordered the same thing but got mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. My shrimp cocktail arrived a few minutes later with only four shrimp. At $18 you would expect to get more. They were however very large and tasty. We then got our salads, nothing to write home about but hey it's salad. Some time later our entrees were brought out. The steak was a little on the small side but I expected that. The broccoli and the sauce were ice cold, and the steak was on the cold side as well. Now as anybody knows you can't heat up steak because you change the the wellness of it. Our waiter never came back to check on us and actually after our entrees were served we had different server take our dessert order. So who knows what was going on there. I am a former waitress and I know that service can make or break a restaurant. My assumption is that these servers figure oh great cheap restaurant week diners and don't think that we will be back on a regular basis once the event is over. I work for a very large firm and set up a lot of lunch and dinner events with clients. When I tell you this is one restaurant I will not be setting up any events at. If you want a great steak dinner and great service take it from, go to Del Frisco's.

3 Stars: ok, no more than that (by debbie157)

I had a dinner with my family a few nights ago. In general I don't go to fancy restaurants too often - but when I do, I really don't mind paying a lot for quality. This was paying a lot for an ok- food, and ok- anything else. I think it's hightime these guys got their stuff together. The quality of the meat was average. I tasted better for less. Service could do better as well. In general - I don't think they'll be seeing me anytime soon.

1 Stars: Fooled by internet reviews....well below average food. (by Yank5723)

Well, my experience failed to live up to even modest expectations. I recently (8/16/08) dined with my brothers at the 37th street location. We stayed very close to Capital Grille, but were looking for a New York steakhouse. Peter Luger seemed a bit over-the-top from what I read online and in my continued search I came across Frankie and Johnnies. I read reviews and looked at the website and it seemed to be pretty great. The disappointment began immediately. It's a pretty ugly location. I'm not sure why the owners decided on this particular spot, but it doesnt' do much to make the diner feel like throwing down massive $$$ for dinner. The staff was ok, not what I would call friendly, but not rude either. We ordered an appetizer which turned out to cost $110...absolutely not worth it. It was good enough (4 shrimp, a few oysters, crab meat, 2 lobster tails and 2 lobster claws), but definitely not worth the $110 it cost. My brother got the tbone and it was FAR from being cooked properly. He ordered it medium-well and large portions of it were rare, and it tasted "old" (I tasted it to verify what he said, and I can't explain it but it did just taste old). My other brother and I ordered the sirloin. Both of our steaks were cooked ok (for the most part) and had pretty good flavor, but had a lot of fat running through them. None of the steaks were anywhere near worth the prices (sirloins were $41 and the tbone was $46). My nephew got the shrimp scampi, which I tasted, and that was the best thing at the table. We had the broccoli with garlic and garlic mashed potatoes, and both of those were ok, though the potatoes definitely tasted like the instant variety. Sad to say that shrimp scampi was the best thing in a steakhouse. Dinner was so disappointing we didn't hang around for dessert. We definitely should have saved time and $$$ and gone to Capital Grille. I've eaten at Capital Grille numerous times and Frankie and Johnnies isn't even close on quality.

4 Stars: Great dinner with atmosphere (by slvpv)

Our interest in historic places and great steak took us to Frankie and Johnnie's over on 37th Street for an early dinner. Housed in John Barrymore's former brownstone, J & F's offers some fine food, albeit for a price. Started with one of the day's specials, a tomato arugula and fresh mozzarella salad that was expertly done. We really wanted to try the risotto w/porcini mushroom and asparagus, but didn't want to fill up on oversized servings of pasta . Our waiter graciously offered to have the dish split between the two of us as an appetizer - it was just the right size and delicious. We both opted for the surf (HUGE lobster tail) and turf (filet mignon) with a few sides. The steak was done exactly right, just melted in your mouth. Couldn't get over the size of that lobster tail - sweet and firm and oh so tasty. Waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing or making us feel we needed to hurry; they were extremely professional and accommodating. It's a typical steakhouse atmosphere - low lighting, dark woods, but not so dim you can't see the food on your plate. We really enjoyed our time there.

The only two negatives I can offer are: 1. The restaurant was a bit too warm. Seemed the a/c wasn't working. 2. The hostess seemed a bit too preoccuppied with her cell phone. She didn't ignore us, but I'm not too fond of people in service industriies who multitask.

As a special treat, J & F's on 37th didn't disappoint. We look forward to returning on our next junket into the city.

1 Stars: HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT! (by thankucomeagain)

Because of the horrible management I will never dine here again. One time I took a client to lunch here an older gentleman with thick accent in a suit took us upstairs. He tried to put us in a tightly squeezed table. I politely asked him for another table. He became very annoyed with us rolled his eyes gave us a booth and rudely asked, "This one's good, right?". Had an average lunch and when we departed we thanked the same older man he replies "Yeah, ok." Who says this to a gracious guest? The only time I ever went for dinner was for my girlfriend's birthday who wanted to go here. As soon as we sat down we had a horrible night. It took a waiter 10 minutes to come over and greet us who was rude and didn't want to answer any of our questions, our dishes after each course were only cleared when we got the busboy's attention, there was a hair in my beer on my second round. I lost it when my girlfriend was in the restroom and asked my waiter to bring a candle in her dessert. When it was delivered to her, surprise, no candle. Furious I asked for the manager. Some cocky tall young guy in suit walks over and asks us what's wrong. I told him everything that happened and he apologized without seeming too concerned with anything I just said and offered for us to take their limo anywhere. My girlfriend and I decided to accept when he asked where we were going I told him back home to Queens. He then gets this look on his face and says, "Oh sorry it can't go that far." Didn't he just say anywhere? I was so disgusted said never mind I didn't need his services and continued with my dessert. He then tried to kiss up and say he would get another car for me. I said no thank you and asked for the check. The cocky manager gave us our check without thanking us and the whole rest of time I watched him sit down and eat his dinner with some girl who obvisously was more important than the other guests there. Terrible management that doesn't deserve my money!

5 Stars: Best Romantic Steak House (by jjcatalano)

My husband and I go every year to a new top rated steak house to celebrate Valentine's Day and this year I was more than impressed by Frankie & Johnnie?s on 32 W 37th St. We requested a table right by the fire place which filled the room with warmth and light-very cozy. Service was great and everything we ordered was perfect. The Fried Calamari was cooked just right and not chewy and the Porterhouse for 2 melted in your mouth. Not to mention the creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes were great as well. Even the bread was great especially the onion rolls. Overall, you get the entire package with this restaurant and I would highly recommend it.

To SaraRuiz.

"tried to grab a HUGE FREAKING WATERBUG"<--like you don't have roa"tch"es in your place?

We were offered a ride in a limo to our hotel <-- um that's a HUGE complimentary service they offered... You STILL don't like the place?

Our romantic evening out turned into a night out at Apple Bees... <--probably what you can more afford.

Thanks Frankie and Johnny's for ruining our night! <--Thanks for not ruining our night by lowering the standard of the place by you eating there...

5 Stars: Wonderful Dinner with Friends (by MelisM1011)

Last night a few friends from work and I went here for dinner. I've been to the Rye location plenty of times and have always been satisfied with my meal there so it's no surprise that last night was the same.

I've always found their waitstaff to be very helpful when it comes to suggesting appetizers and entrees and last night was no different. Our waiters suggestions were very much appreciated. For starters, I ordered the Homemade Mozzarella and Tomatoes (which was topped with sundried tomatoes and accompanied with balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil). The fresh mozz. melted in my mouth with every bite. For dinner, I split the porterhouse for two. The steak had a great flavor to it and was cooked perfectly. I always order my steak med-rare...the only way to have a steak! Garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli with garlic and oil, and mushrooms with onions were perfect side dishes for dinner. For dessert, I ordered the raspberry creme brulee which in my opinion was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner.

I've been to an array of steakhouses ranging from Luger's in New York to The Forge in Miami and I must say that Frankie & Johnnie's is up there with the best! I will definitely be back again!

1 Stars: Frankie and Johnnie's is AWFUL (by francine10)

I thought this was the WORST place I ever ate in. I'm talking specifically about the one on 45th Street. So overpriced, crampled, ancient, pushy waiters who would not let me order what i wanted. Seriously. I asked to change my order to what my dining partner was getting and was told that it was better if we got different things and could share. When I said I didn't want to do that, the waiter waved me away and said, no, do that. I couldn't believe it. Also, insufficient bathroom facilties. I believe there is one stall in the ladies room.

This is one of those tourist traps that is so full of itself. The food was just average for a steakhouse. You would do better to go to one of the lesser known places.

Awful.

2 Stars: Poor service and not a great steak (by mjwalsh02)

You would think for being a steakhouse the steak would be phenomenal, right? Not the case here. Came for restaurant week for dinner. Ordered the the house salad as the appetizer, which was just iceberg lettuce, cucumber, and tomato. However I will say the dressing was good. My friend ordered the split pea soup, which had no taste. For the main course, we both ordered steak. Definitely was not the best steak I've ever eaten, it was just okay. Since the steak came with nothing else, we each ordered a baked potato on the side, which I may add was an extra $6 on top of the $35 prix fixe. For the third course and best, we got chocolate ice cream. Also the service wasn't great. Our waiter was very cocky. Would have definitely preferred to have another waiter

3 Stars: Worst server ever (by l_k_119)

My boyfriend & I went to Frankie & Johnnie?s on 37th for restaurant week. The food was great but the service was horrible! When I asked the server questions about the menu he got annoyed at me. I asked him how many ounces the steak was, he ROLLED HIS EYES & said I don?t know, it's this big while trying to show me with his fingers. For the rest of the night he was really inattentive (I had to flag him down after every course to tell him we're done & he mocked me, like oh... you're done?) so when it came to tipping him, we tipped him, but not well. So he picks up the tip and as he walks away, he COUNTS THE TIP. When we got up to leave, he comes over to me & asks me if he did anything to offend me in a really sweet, nice way. So I told him the truth about everything that bothered me. After that, his mood totally changed & he got all angry & defensive. He told me he did everything he could for me, thinks his service was great, & calls me DISRESPECTFUL for tipping him like that. Isn?t the tip up to the customer????? He?s lucky he got anything at all. So I told him that I thought HE is disrespectful for complaining about the tip & that I will speak to the manager. He says no that's not necessary, calls me disrespectful again & walks away. I spoke with the manager anyway who was very nice and accommodating, and he offered us a limo but we didn?t take it. I didn?t tell the manager about the server to get something out of it. And the funny thing is, when I left the restaurant, there was a group of people outside who asked me who my server was because they overheard me making a complaint? they said they had the same guy & that he was horrible!!!!! The food is amazing, but it?s the service that will keep me from going back to Frankie & Johnnie?s on 37th. Our dinner was definitely ruined by the lack of service & the attitude we received. A person as unfriendly and inattentive as my server does not deserve to be employed by a any restaurant.

4 Stars: Delicious (by 11222)

Tried this place during restaurant week. The townhouse it's located in is beautiful and very romantic. The waiter was friendly, but not extremly attentive. There were several times we had to flag him down or ask the busboy to get him (ex. more drinks, check), and they seemed a bit confused (brought the table next to us things we had asked for, then accidentally gave us their check while we were still eating dinner!) But nothing terrible. They wouldn't subsitute items that were the same price (ex, regular salad on the menu for a ceaser, even though they were the same price) I had soup, delicious! My date had the house salad, which was actually very tasty! The filet mignon was soooo good. Although i ordered mine med. rare, and my date ordered his medium, and his was more rare then mine! But they were both delic. It comes ala carte, so we ordered some sides, which were also good. Drinks were good, prices typical for steakhouse, not overpriced. I'd def. go back.

I usually visit the one in Hoboken rather than this one. Very nice steaks and not as pricey as other joints. The one in Hoboken is probably the best restaurant in town.

5 Stars: Excellent Steak! (by mj20)

The food is great - from the sirloin to the sides. I've been there several times and I'm impressed over and over again. Of the big NYC steakhouses, Frankie & Johnnie's has one of the better atmospheres. Very layed back, yet attentative. I came with a few of my boys and had a great time, but would definitely also come back with a date.

5 Stars: Unparalleled Service and Quality (by bkatz75)

We look for quality of food, atmosphere, service, location and value. Frankie and Johnnies Steakhouse had all of the above. Wonderfully romantic interior; helpful, timely service, and our dinners were cooked to perfection. Also, the restaurant offers complimentary limo service unreal! You cant get this type of service anywhere else. Priced in line with other Manhattan steakhouses. Give them a try. You won't regret it.

I have been hearing a lot about Frankie & Johnnie's and decided to check it out. Dinner was fabulous - from the bread to the sirloin to everything in between. As a waitress, I am always keen to the quality of service when I dine out. It was impeccable, even though it was incredibly busy (I went on a Friday night). I couldn't have done it better myself! I will defintely be back.

5 Stars: Perfect Addition to a Night Out on Broadway (by aridge)

My cousins were in town from Oklahoma and I wanted to show them a night out in the Big City. So, Broadway was the obvious first choice. I decided to take them to Frankie and Johnnies for dinner - as I had been hearing so much about it lately. The place is gorgeous! I love how they kept it authentic, with John Barrymore's original fireplace and wood floors. And the night just kept getting better! Everything we had was cooked to perfection - even the bread was amazing! I had the crabcakes and filet, the best I've had in NYC. This place is a hidden treasure! We then got a limo to the show, which really topped off the night and totally impressed my family. I loved it, they loved it - all around a great night!

5 Stars: Best Steak in NYC (by jedwards7255)

I recently came to NY on business. I have been to a good share of NYC steakhouses in my day, but Frankie & Johnnie's take the cake. The best sirloin I've ever had - it was cooked to perfection. Everything was delicious, the crabcakes and the lyonnaise potatoes were my favorite - besides the steak, of course. Our server was attentive, yet not too pushy and I didn't feel rushed, which I often do when I come to NY. Next time I'm in town, I will make sure to eat here again.

We told the staff we were going to the theatre and they offered us a complimentary limo. Wow... that toppped off a great dinner. Thank you Frankie & Johnnie's.
1 Stars: I loved the place, it was nice until..... (by sararuiz001)

My partner and I made a lovely reservation at the restaurant. We entered and we were seated upstairs. The place was romantic because they had many candles lit and the mood was right. We ordered wine and jumbo shrimp to start. We sat, drank, and ate shrimp, when suddenly! One of the waiters decided to crawl over to where my partner was sitting and grabbed a linen napkin from our table, you don't want to know what he did with it, honestly you don't want to know... He tried to grab a HUGE FREAKING WATERBUG that was crawling on the wall behind my partner. He had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to be seated at another table because he didn't capture the waterbug in the napkin he DROPPED IT on our seats where we were seated . I was so grossed out that I said we're out of here, so we cancelled our dinner and told them thanks but no thanks. We were offered a ride in a limo to our hotel but we declined. Our romantic evening out turned into a night out at Apple Bees... Thanks Frankie and Johnny's for ruining our night!

5 Stars: Most consistent sirloin anywhere. Filets are actually too thick, but like butter. That's not a complaint! (by senatordl)

Been to both w37th and w45th and while 37th is roomier, 45th was an old speakeasy and has a great charm. Lots of autographed pieces (Joel Grey to Jack Webb). Small & tight. Lyonesse potatoes are a treat. Service, is very attentive in both without being intrusive. 45th is walkable to virtually all theatres as long as it is not raining. If you like sirloin, this is the place. Big, juicy, and incredibly consistent. Bring an appetite becaue it is hard to carry a doggie bag to the theatre. 37th is great if you want a great meal before an event at the Garden. Can't go wrong either way. If you complain about the quality of the beef here, no place will satisfy you.

This place is tremendous: steaks, and appetizers were fantastic. Kudos, kudos, kudos. I could not have asked for a better meal. And the bread they had in the basket was delic (pronounced delish). There was a lively atmosphere down by the bar with everyone watching the Yankee game. Definitely a cool spot to go to after work. No problem with the service, either.

4 Stars: Service good steak, ok (by sean1)

I heard so much about this place so I went on a Friday evening. The service was very good. I ordered a sirloin steak. I wasn't crazy about it at all. It was too fatty. I have had a better steak at Charlie Browns. The creamed spinach was like soup. The potatoes were great though. Dessert was key lime pie and was good and the coffee was so so at $3.50 a cup. The best part was when we were leaving they asked if we needed the free limo service somewhere in the city as long as we tipped the driver. That was cool. I would go back but I would try something different.

I enjoyed the food there....steaks very good, lump crabmeat cocktail excellent, and side dishes normal for a good steakhouse. The cons...The was the food came out very slowly and the place wasn't busy. Also the waiter anever asked if the steaks were cooked to out liking or if we wanted anything else. Forget about getting anytype mixed drinks, asked for a Tom Collins and the bartender messed it up. Stick to the beer, wine, and non-mixed drinks.

Well let me tell you, all this talk is true. They really do live up to their reputation. There steak sauce is awesome as well as the potatoes and cream spinach I had with it too. And I hate to say it but it's actually better than Peter Luger's! I mean Peter Luger's guys is well known for their sauce and steak. But I'm tellin ya this place has them beat! So I'm passing the word on and continuing the good reviews I've heard through everyone about Frankie & Johnnie's. Check it out! I know you won't be disappointed.

1 Stars: Disappointing Steak Experience 11/26/05 (by appetite101)

Went to the one on 37th street.
Steak Quality - Below Average. Steak was not up to par compared to the big dogs of steak - Peter Luguers / Ruth Chris. No competition. Save your money and go elsewhere. Steak was very bland, lack of flavor, dry (not much natural steak juices)
Service - Extremely slow. We had an appointment at 7pm and did not get served our steaks (porterhouse) main course until 9. We did not get asked how I meal was nor did we get to our refill on waters until pretty much after the steak was finished. It wasn't busy at all.
Coat check - don't bother checking it in. Not only was the steak and service disapponting, the place lacks class. We checked in our coats and went to redeem our coats, the coat lady tells us how much to pay to get our coats back

5 Stars: Best steak I have ever had (by foodbelly27)

I am always looking for the "best steak ever" and tried all the big names, but Frankie and Johnny's wins . Ambience was amazing-romantic, but not formal (sit upstairs in a booth near the fireplace). The service was great and they offered to prepare my ribeye pittsburgh style, which most places won't or can't do. My steak was massive and perfectly crispy and seasoned on the outside and juicy, melting in your mouth on the inside. My boyfriend had filet mignon and ate the entire thing ( I have never seen him clear his plate before). The creamed spinach and onion rings were amazing, and the coconut sorbet had real pieces of coconut in it. Our bill was $150 for 4 drinks, 2 apps, 2 sides, 2 steaks, and a dessert-very reasonable. We're are now saving up to go there every month-pathetic? Maybe. But it was just so damn good.

5 Stars: No words to describe (by eedwards)

I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. My husband and I had dinner with our 6 year old daughter after a Yankees baseball game. We felt underdressed because we were still dress in our jerseys, but that was not a problem. Our waiter was wonderful and made our daughter laugh and smile several times during dinner. She even had a good time. Food was succulent. We are looking forward to taking my mother for her 70th birthday.

4 Stars: food awesome but calculated service charge? (by lisenz)

Yes, Frankie and Johnnies serves awesome steak. We had a great meal but when the bill arrived a 15% service charge was added .... I would've tipped more! But since they went to the trouble of handwriting the service charge on to my credit card slip for me I just let it me. They are ripping themselves off if they add this service charge automatically. Maybe they thought we were tourists and wouldn't know what to tip ...

5 Stars: The whole nine yards (by d_fens)

This is really as good as it gets if one wants to have a steak in NYC. Really quiet place and aestethically calmy decorated with dark wood and sombre textiles. Very good wine list but that's not the reason to go there. The steaks are as good as it gets. I haven't had better anywere and I don't think I will. There is no people watching and nothing is really happening but if you want to have a meal with a friend or a business associate this is the place. I can't praise the meat or the kitchen enough - just perfect. Some restaurants have trouble with the heat and the meat don't get crispy enough - that's not the case here. Crispy on the outside, bloody inside! I will always go here for steaks, unless I need to take someone to their favourite spot. Here you get it all.

Frankie & Johnnie's is a classic NYC steakhouse. The food comes in huge portions and is to die for.

I didn't know what to expect from Frankie and Johnnie's when I made the reservation after my friend told me it was the best steak he had had. I was expecting greatness and Frankie and Johnnie's delivered. I love red meat, I mean really love red meat and their ground filet mignon was unbelievable. There was so much flavor, especially when accompanied by the garlic mashed potatos. I would definately recommend it everyone, even if you aren't a red meat fan, my friend had the pasta and completely cleaned her plate.

I am from New Jersey and wanted to catch up with some college friends in a convenient place for us all. Defintely making it worth my travel, we all met at this cute restaurant Frankie and Johnnies before seeing a Broadway play. It's located right next to the show we saw, The Boy From Oz. I had a tasty hamburger and fries, which prepped me all up to see the tasty Hugh Jackman!

I had dinner with friends at Frankie & Johnnie's last week and had the best steak I ever tasted in my life. I was delicious! And the steak sauce was so good we bought a bottle of it. The Barrymore room is beautiful and includes a gorgeous melting candle that looks like a sculpture. Also, the potatoes au gratin were divine.

This steakhouse has the best steak I have ever had. I took my whole family there last Tuesday and they loved it too. New York in general has the best food anyway but this is by far the best steak I have ever eaten. I love steak sauce too. This restaurant makes their own so I bought a bottle to take home. Afterwards my family and I walked around the area and I came to the conclusion that this is truly the city that never sleeps or stops to eat!

5 Stars: The Best Steakhouse in NYC (by lilac783)

This past weekend I celebrated my two year anniversary with my boyfriend at Frankie and Johnnie's. I had never heard of it before so I asked my boyfriend how he knew about it. Apparently he had heard from a friend that it is a terrific steakhouse. Well that's all you had to say to my boyfriend: terrific and steak in the same sentence. This was not your typical steakhouse though. Frankie and Johnnie's was incredibly romanitc. We had dinner in the Barrymore Room and to see if the tales were true we ate their steak. It was absolutely superb. I don't want people to be as clueless as I was about Frankie and Johnnie's. I want everyone to know this is a treasure in New York city. It is in the center of everything, has fabulous food, the service could not have been better, it's romantic and charming. Bon appétit!

5 Stars: Best Steaks In New York (by equity6)

The double broil cooking process used here gives the steaks the best flavor of any I have ever tasted and I've been eating in New York steak houses for 30 years. We dined here on May 4, 2004. The atmosphere is great- elegant and understated. It is my favorite steakhouse in the city. Service is professional and friendly. The F&J salad I had with my sirloin strip was very good and the Lyonnaise potatoes were very good, too. We can't wait to return.

5 Stars: Best steak I've ever had (by rudee)

While in Manhattan on a business trip, I decided to take the advise of a hotel worker and check out Franky & Johnnie's for what I was told was to be an excellent place for a steak dinner. Boy was this good advise as this was quite simply the best steak I ever ate. After partaking in a rather expensive but tasty Rum & Coke from the bar I ordered an appetizer (house salad) then ordered the Lyonnaise Potatoes and Grilled Mushrooms to accompany my Sirloin - which I ordered Medium. When the steak arrived, I was pleasantly suprised to have the server reach across me and cut my meat for me. (he only cut the meat away from the bone, but it still suprised me). Once I cut into the steak I was in heaven! Well worth the $70 I expensed to my company. (sorry boss)

3 Stars: Mediocre (by blynch)

The service was fair and the food OK. For the prices, I expected much better of both. The best thing about the place was the decor, but not worth the trip for the price. Youll do better at Keens around the block.

1 Stars: Bad food (by tigers8932)

I consider myself an expert on steak. I have eaten at some of the best steakhouses in the country and a I can honestly say that I had the worst steak of my life at Frankie and Johnnie's. Paying $30 for a plate of fat is certainly not my idea of good meal. When I complained to the waiter he just looked at me like I was crazy. The service was terrible. I am used to the New York waiters and their shortness but these people didn't even care much less listen to anything anyone had to say. I don't see how the restaurant is so highly ranked considering the competition.

I work in the area and have been looking for a new spot - I found it. Great bar and my friends and I sat down for a steak when we got hungry. Great service.

5 Stars: It's so Romantic (by nypdmo)

I loved the crabcakes! The chef came out to talk about his creation with me when I complimented him. I loved that.

5 Stars: It's so Nice! (by dci123)

I ate in on the second floor in front of the window and the service was great and the food was awesome. I am a history buff so I went when I heard it had been John Barrymore's house. I will go back with my friends before we see Drew's new Movie!

5 Stars: Top notch! (by adgirl)

I was amazed at how much better the steak was here than other popular -- and more expensive-- steakhouses. I loved everything I tried, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier and more attentive. It's a great place to go before or after an event at Madison Square Garden.

I highly recommend it!

5 Stars: Frankie & Johnnie's (by adelabean)

I wanted to write in because I had one of the best dinner experiences at Frankie & Johnnie's. The food was to die for - my mouth started watering the moment I walked in, and the decor, atmosphere, and overall experience was sublime. I recommend to anyone who has a craving for steak, or a good hearty meal, in a setting that is lush and decorous, to go to Frankie & Johnnie's and enjoy yourself.
