Conveniently located in the heart of River North and steps from Chicago's famed Theater District, Rosebud Trattoria is a hit with locals and tourists alike. The idea behind the "Rosebud Trattoria concept" is to find the best ingredients possible and deliver them fresh from the market to the customers table at a moderate price. The result is a Roman inspired trattoria with a genuine Chicago balance. The unique menu is unmatched by other restaurants in the city, serving the finest Italian artisan meats and cheeses, house made specialties such as Mama's Meatballs served with traditional Sunday Salad, generous portions of pasta and Roman style pizzas with toppings such as fresh fennel sausage and roasted asparagus. A whimsical children's menu makes this restaurant the perfect choice for the entire family.

I always enjoy going too Ballo's. So much fun - a great way to end a hectic week. The relaxed atmosphere and the friendliness of everyone there makes it easy to keep returning. Not to mention the monster portions of food. Their pasta is top notch.

This is the first time I've been in since the name change (It used to be Ballo). I was in on this past Monday and I was WOWED! The service was great, the food was delicious, and the managers made it even better! Short and Sweet...this place is great, and have already recommended it to everyone I've seen since Monday!!!!
Pros: Great Expierience!!!
Cons: Loud, But Fun!!

Pastas keep me coming for more!!!!
by james1970
Have now been to Ballo three separate times for dinner, and I am looking forward to my next visit.
First off, if you are looking for a stuffy place this isn't the spot for you. Ballo is a fun restaurant not at all pretentious.
The food is top notch. The menu changes daily, and the kitchen is willing to make something up for you even if you don't see your choice on the menu. Nice touch. I have had everything from lasagna, chicken with a pesto sauce, to various other pasta dishes. All very good and prepared well.
Portions are ridiculously large so make sure you don't go overboard on appetizers. The desserts are also enormous, but who isn't willing to splurge on dessert?
I would definitely recommend Ballo to anyone looking for a fun casual spot.

Worst waitrress ever
by jensmithe
Our waitress Amy was terrible. She was distracted, unattentive, and verry rude. She should be working at ihop. In fact, I've recieved better service at ihop. She needs to be fired immediately.
Pros: food was ok
Cons: amy

food, good. if you have patience...
by mabstb
we were staying in the hampton inn and suites (which is conjoined to this restaurant) and decided, based on an ad in the elevator claiming it was "family friendly" and that the 2 kids were screaming about being famished, that we should eat there ( we have a 1 and 5 year old). the kids' menu did the job - with the usual italian kid fare: pizza, mac and cheese, spaghetti - and the food we did get was good, with the exception of an $8 dry-as-the-desert piece of cake. it was the service that was unbelievable. our waitress - and i use that term generously - took 15 mins to tell us that the bottle of wine we'd ordered was not available. this was at 630pm on a wednesday, not when the place was even half full or when her attention would be split amongst 10-odd tables. she also got both adult orders wrong once, and then my order (the daily special mind you) wrong again. i was informed it was "computer glitch" and the meal i ordered would be out in 15 minutes, my kids' food had been delivered and devoured and we were now tetering on children meltdown. 15 mins was an eternity given i'd ordered an hour ago. what we did get - a massive caeser salad (complete with anchovies!!) for like $7 and a huge potion of tortellini for $18 - was quite good. however, kid friendly - not so much. loud bar scene. linen table clothes. servers that didnt recognize you dont deliver trays of hot food to a 1 year old. for more patient singles or couples who were not navigating nap schedules and the fact they didnt offer crayons with the menus, again, the food is good. but dont get tricked into thinking this is any semblance of a "family" restaurant.

Great for lunch or dinner - loved the spaghetti and meatball
by matthewross
This is place is great for dinner or lunch. For dinner it?s a great spot for a date or a group. It has a nice vibe, great service and great Italian food. I recently went there for lunch and asked the waiter what he recommended. He strongly suggested the spaghetti and meatball if I was spaghetti lover. I?m glad I took his recommendation. I had an enormous meatball in the middle and a very healthy portion of spaghetti. I couldn?t finish everything but it was excellent. Also, the service was highly professional and friendly.
Pros: Food, Service, Ambience (Spaghetti)

Worst Service
by srandhava
We heard rave reviews about the food at Ballo, and decided to give it a try. We made sure to make reservations to avoid the risk not getting seated. When we arrived, we were told that we would have to wait for a couple of minutes. After waiting for an hour, we tried to ask the hostess if we would be seated anytime soon. The hostess was rude and didn't make any attempt to accommadate us. After waiting for fifteen more minutes, we decided to leave and eat somewhere else. We were extremely disappointed because the hostess again didn't seem to care that we left. We will never go there again regardless of how good the food may be. There are far better italian restaurants that offer quality food and excellent service.
Cons: Terrible service, crowded, loud, noisy

Sorry Excuse for a Restaurant
by slowride23
One of the worst restaurants that I have ever been to. Made a reservation with the assumption that I would actually be seated in a reasonable amount of time. An hour later I was still left waiting at the bar with absolutely zero attempts on their part to rectify the situation. Ended up going somewhere else at which point the hostess seemed almost relieved that we were out of her hair. Additionally, there was a significant amount of surburban trash and tourists there that evening. No self-respecting city dweller should ever step foot in this sorry excuse for a restaurant.
Pros: No discernable pros
Cons: Hideous service, rude hostesses, generally unpleasant environment, lots of surburban trash and tourists

Worst Resturant Experience Ever
by joeymarie
Went to Ballo, after making a reservation one month prior. Had to wait over an hour to be seated. Customer service was the most horrible I have ever experienced. Management was extremely rude and unprofessional to me and my guests, he was too busy flirting with the young single girls to handle his other customers. I would not recommend this place to anyone, regardless of whether the food was good or not, I value good customer service and this place had NONE! Venture over to Keefers instead, they were extremely accomodating, food was great and customer service was a 10!!!
Cons: Customer Service

Wonderful experience
by mickey109
This place is the best. I do not understand why they are not always busy. I went here last night with two friends, one was celebrating a birthday. We had great food. Our server, Michael was the best, when you go ask for him to be your server. When you go you will want to go again, I will be going back. Everything was great. If you want a great meal, with a knowledge and great server who makes your experience so much better, then you need to come here.
Pros: Service, the use of the color red, valet service

Great Food and Atmosphere
by nkflyers2005
Went here with some friends and had one of the best meals I have had in awhile. I had some sort of stuffed shells with cheese on top that was to die for. I have heard the menu changes daily, but I am not sure how much it varies. The atmosphere at Ballo is also very good and different with the disco ball, mobster movies, and 70s tunes. I recommend checking this place out.
Pros: Great Food. Great Atmosphere
Cons: None

Good Ambience and food
by wishing4u
Like the service provided and the waiter Danny gave good recommendation. Nice ambience and the price is reasonable for the portion. I had a steak and 2 glasses of wine for around $50, and it came with a big serving of house salad.

The Best!
by ktfrenchy
I have been there 3 times now and absolutely love it. blk & wht Scarface movies playing on flat screens all around the restaurant, music playing loud, people are laughing outloud and dancing in middle of restaurant...so much fun! I don't know if its great for a 1st date, but as far as dinner with friends, or before a fun night out, it is definitely perfect.
The crowd is always lookinng really nice.
On top of everything the staff is always really nice and making sure you are having a great time.
Pros: Fun, Great food, staff
Cons: none : )

Ballo Restaurant
by fordgirl98
Service was slow, but food was excellent. Waitresses sometimes too preoccupied with getting tips from the single men, which slows down service - especially on Friday & Saturday night. Fridays & Saturdays music is a bit loud after 11pm, but you can still enjoy the GREAT FOOD!!
Pros: good food
Cons: slow service, loud music
