Setting the new tempo of Italian dining, drinking and dancing
  • Menu Changes Daily
  • Italian Comfort Food
  • Lively Atmosphere

While there are plenty of Italian Restaurants in Chicago, the cuisine at Ballo sets it apart from the competition. Italian comfort foods with a contemporary twist are the house specialty. The menu offers an extensive selection of appetizers, wood-oven fired pizzas, family-style entrees and desserts. A fabulous antipasto menu is also available including: cured meats, cheeses and grilled vegetables. In addition to ordering a cocktail from the full-service bar, customers can choose from a large selection of Italian and domestic wines to compliment their meal. Ballo is the ideal juxtaposition of a great restaurant and fun-loving lounge or nightspot. The beat of the music, sparkling disco ball and plasma television screens covering the walls set the mood inside this unique space, converted from a 50's diner.

makes for a fun night out  4 Star Rating - Very good

I always enjoy going too Ballo's. So much fun - a great way to end a hectic week. The relaxed atmosphere and the friendliness of everyone there makes it easy to keep returning. Not to mention the monster portions of food. Their pasta is top notch.

Pastas keep me coming for more!!!! 5 Star Rating - World class

Have now been to Ballo three separate times for dinner, and I am looking forward to my next visit.

First off, if you are looking for a stuffy place this isn't the spot for you. Ballo is a fun restaurant not at all pretentious.

The food is top notch. The menu changes daily, and the kitchen is willing to make something up for you even if you don't see your choice on the menu. Nice touch. I have had everything from lasagna, chicken with a pesto sauce, to various other pasta dishes. All very good and prepared well.

Portions are ridiculously large so make sure you don't go overboard on appetizers. The desserts are also enormous, but who isn't willing to splurge on dessert?

I would definitely recommend Ballo to anyone looking for a fun casual spot.

Worst waitrress ever 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Our waitress Amy was terrible. She was distracted, unattentive, and verry rude. She should be working at ihop. In fact, I've recieved better service at ihop. She needs to be fired immediately.

Pros: food was ok
Cons: amy

food, good. if you have patience... 3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

we were staying in the hampton inn and suites (which is conjoined to this restaurant) and decided, based on an ad in the elevator claiming it was "family friendly" and that the 2 kids were screaming about being famished, that we should eat there ( we have a 1 and 5 year old). the kids' menu did the job - with the usual italian kid fare: pizza, mac and cheese, spaghetti - and the food we did get was good, with the exception of an $8 dry-as-the-desert piece of cake. it was the service that was unbelievable. our waitress - and i use that term generously - took 15 mins to tell us that the bottle of wine we'd ordered was not available. this was at 630pm on a wednesday, not when the place was even half full or when her attention would be split amongst 10-odd tables. she also got both adult orders wrong once, and then my order (the daily special mind you) wrong again. i was informed it was "computer glitch" and the meal i ordered would be out in 15 minutes, my kids' food had been delivered and devoured and we were now tetering on children meltdown. 15 mins was an eternity given i'd ordered an hour ago. what we did get - a massive caeser salad (complete with anchovies!!) for like $7 and a huge potion of tortellini for $18 - was quite good. however, kid friendly - not so much. loud bar scene. linen table clothes. servers that didnt recognize you dont deliver trays of hot food to a 1 year old. for more patient singles or couples who were not navigating nap schedules and the fact they didnt offer crayons with the menus, again, the food is good. but dont get tricked into thinking this is any semblance of a "family" restaurant.

Great for lunch or dinner - loved the spaghetti and meatball 5 Star Rating - World class

This is place is great for dinner or lunch. For dinner its a great spot for a date or a group. It has a nice vibe, great service and great Italian food. I recently went there for lunch and asked the waiter what he recommended. He strongly suggested the spaghetti and meatball if I was spaghetti lover. Im glad I took his recommendation. I had an enormous meatball in the middle and a very healthy portion of spaghetti. I couldnt finish everything but it was excellent. Also, the service was highly professional and friendly.

Pros: Food, Service, Ambience (Spaghetti)

Worst Service 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

We heard rave reviews about the food at Ballo, and decided to give it a try. We made sure to make reservations to avoid the risk not getting seated. When we arrived, we were told that we would have to wait for a couple of minutes. After waiting for an hour, we tried to ask the hostess if we would be seated anytime soon. The hostess was rude and didn't make any attempt to accommadate us. After waiting for fifteen more minutes, we decided to leave and eat somewhere else. We were extremely disappointed because the hostess again didn't seem to care that we left. We will never go there again regardless of how good the food may be. There are far better italian restaurants that offer quality food and excellent service.

Cons: Terrible service, crowded, loud, noisy
