Pros: great service to go along with the great food

We ate here for a girls' night out as a party of 8 and we were thrilled with this place. True, it's not a bargain-priced restaurant, but it was really good food and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Their tomato soup (a special of the night) was amazing.
This place was perfect for our group because they sat us at a nice round table that made it so easy to have conversations and to feel like we were all eating together. (I've been to so many places where they accommodate large groups by putting together a few rectangular tables end-to-end, which just isn't as pleasant of a set-up for group conversations.) I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Of course, we made the reservation in advance for such a large group, but I'm so glad that we tried it. I'll definitely be going back for another special occasion!

Pros: Great staff, Great food, Nice ambience

Cons: a bit pricy

Another upper east side finest. Great food and a very good selection of wines. Typical New York prices, but well worth it. I recommend this for a good diner.

I found the food here to be quite average in taste and presentation. The menu is unusually overpriced for what they offer and the decor is a hodgepodge of styles that didn't appeal to me. Not impressed.

Im so happy I found this place. Very large menu of dishes and the food is really good. I'm going back for a third time. I had the salmon dish and Pollo Lechese and they were really good.

Pros: Excellent food, large menu

Cons: The place on the older side, but cozy

I've been here many times over the years and I never tire of it. A diverse menu, first-rate service, classy but warm and unpretentious atmosphere, and delicious food makes it my reliable "go-to" spot. Whether its for business or with friends and family, I can always count on this place because the food is consistently excellent and it has an long, tantalizing wine list for all palates. I echo the other reviewer and say that the branzino is great, as is the pappardelle, all the veal dishes, and bean salad. And you can't beat the red sauce here!

Radiant atmosphere and exquisite Italian delicacies. Da Filippo has supreme service to guide you through the menu, although any seafood dish can blindly suffice. Nice wine selection, and cute location.

Is it always fair to ask a restaurant to let you linger over dessert and coffee and have the advantage of their staff and ambience (and rent) when you've eaten pizza somewhere else? This place has a loyal crowd, somewhat older, world-travelled and experienced diners who know excellent food and value and service when they find it, and an attractive bar. People vote with their feet; no one forces people to go to a restaurant, and this place is always at full capacity with happy diners. It is unpretentious, not a scene, but always a fine place for dinner. Nice wine list. Courteous, unhurried, old-world service. Altogether, a fine, upscale, upstanding neighborhood Italian.

My friend and I had pizza for dinner and wanted dessert. We decided to go to Da Filippo Restaurante Italian to get dessert and coffee. They sat us and when the waiter asked us if we wanted wine with dinner. I replied, "no, thank you, we are here for coffee and dessert." He leaves and comes back and says, "no coffee and dessert here." We left, went across the street and got our coffee and dessert. I have never heard of any restaurant in NYC turning people away if they want to order coffee and dessert only without dinner. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
