Hidden Gem 5 Star Rating - World class

I'm hesitant to give away the secret of this treasure in the West Village for fear it will become mobbed. We ordered takeout a few times, expecting at least some semblance of edible Indian food and were amazed at how extraordinary all of the dishes were. Finally got a chance to go there and found the service, atmosphere and commitment to hospitality on a par with the delicious food. I'm not a gastronome so, I cannot go into detail in describing the subtle nuances of the various entrees but, I have experience eating regular meals and I must say that everything was very good. You will not get lost in a flurry of artificial flowers or Christmas lights like you might find in the East Village, however, the atmosphere is authentic without being too cute and is condusive to enjoying a great meal. Considering New York City rents, transportation, food prices, utilities, and vigorish to the mob for trash removal and linen service, I'd say the prices are on the low side of moderate.

Pros: delicious well-prepared food, relaxed, unhurried atmosphere

A new happy place 5 Star Rating - World class

This is one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time.

I am a sweetheart for good service, good food and reasonable prices. Our server was pleasant and efficient. I really enjoy the added touch of class that taking away first course silverwear and replacing them with new for each subsequent course.

The food is phenomenal...even the complimentary sauces had original flavor. We ordered the Malai Kofta, which literally melted in the mouth and Lamb Vindaloo. The lamb wasn't fatty, the sauce had a perfect amount of flavor/spice ratio. The Raita was good enough to eat alone with a spoon. The accompanying Poori was light, fluffy and buttery.

We ordered a bowl of rice pudding to share, and was served two very generous servings each, split. I couldn't ask for a better experience. A great date restaurant, a place to bring your mom, and catch up with an old friend hideout. Karahi is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Pros: location, service, quality
Cons: none

One of the Best Indian Restaurants in the City 5 Star Rating - World class

This unassuming place in the heart of the West Villiage was a wonderful surprise to me. I absolutely loved the Indian food and the staff and restaurant offered a charming, yet cozy environment. Highly recommended by me if you are looking for a casual joint paired with great Indian food. I'll definitely be back!

Great indian food in the west village! Finally! 5 Star Rating - World class

I finally got around to trying this place the other night. It is totally awesome, there's no really good Indian food in the neighborhood until now. I had samosas and the chicken marinated in yogurt. The owner is so nice, and brought out these great fried veggies (Indian tempura?). The naan is so fluffy and delicious. Main courses kick it. The food definitely has a spicy bite, but it's not just hot. It has wonderful layered flavors and is highly addictive. They're waiting on a liquor license so for now it is BYOB with no corkage fee. Prices are really cheap, since they're rebuilding their client base after moving to the West Village from SoHo.

Pros: Delicious food, reasonable prices, BYOB
Cons: small space, make reservations for weekends.
