We were drawn in by the fancy decor and interesting menu. What we got instead was watered down sangria, goya-out of the box yellow rice, and oscar mayer "chorizo" dressed in fancy garnish. We ordered the quail tapas, and who knows if what we got was actually quail or chicken wings. For the rest of the night our stomachs felt queasy from the questionable food and exorbitant price.

Avoid Salon de Tapas on 190 Sullivan St at all costs.

I must say, there are a ton of new Tapas places in the city, many good and just as many bad. Tapas are originally from Spain but nowadays, the French, the Italians, and even the Japanese advertise Tapas. So in a way we lost the real meaning of tapas. I've been to this place a number of times and find it to be very good. Tapas is not about the decoration on a plate, but about the edible part of it. This place is more traditional, large portions, hearty food, no frills. I've been to many fancy tapas places in the city which are excellent, but you can eat three or four tapas in these places, spend $10-$12 per Tapa and leave hungry. But the place is looks nice and the dishes look great, and that's fine. but sometimes you just wanna EAT and feel like you weren't ripped off when you get that bill.
So, If looking for that fancy Tapas place, don't go here, try Casa Mono, or Solera. Now if you want to have fun and eat well for not mucho money try this place, They have been around way before half the people knew what "Tapas" were.

The service at this tapas bar is superb, but the food was way below my expectations. We ordered the cheese plate and received slices of cheese (one kind) and crackers strewn sloppily on the on plate, with a pretty apple cut and assembled to look like a bird in the center. Although the bird was a nice touch, I would never think an NYC restaurant would service this kind of dish to customers. We also ordered the scallops and quail tapas, which were just OK. The thing was, we all know tapas dishes are small, but this place serves them in huge dishes, and with bad presentation (food just slopped on the plate), it doesn't make the food look appealing at all. I hate writing bad reviews when the wait staff was superb, but I got the feeling that whoever is in charge of the menu there hasn't checked out the other tapas bars recently- they don't know what kind of competition they're up against and where their customer expectations are at. Quite frankly, it was a waste of money and I won't go back until I hear there have been substantial improvements made on the food.

Great tapas, great ambience, great Sangria, qualified service.
Have been here 4 times and sat in their garden-WONDERFUL!
Never had a bad time.
Can't wait for spring because the outside seating is SO NICE!
It's run by the Cafe Espanol folks around the corner and it shows.
Great value too! We and our friends love it!
