I was in search of an update to my look and needed corrective color. I read many of the reviews here and decided to give Sami a try. I was a bit anxious about going to someone for the first time and not only getting a hair cut but a corrective color as well.
Darling Frida, dressed in one of her many cute outfits, greeted me as I waited for my appointment time.
Sami has a great eye for style and color and immediately came up with several ideas, all of them good. Most stylists want to cut more hair than I am willing to part with but Sami just wanted to modify the cut I had. Sami also acknowledged that my dark brown hair needed a lift but not with red which is what every stylist I ever had wanted to do. She said I had gold tones in my skin and it wouldn't work. Yay! Finally! Someone who understands my hair and my preferences.
She did a fabulous job of marblizing with four different colors and touching up my roots with the fifth. What a fabulous color I ended up with! It is somewhat lighter which I definitely needed but nothing drastic. (I had a bad, too dark color, poorly done when I went to her). It is current and stylish without being too edgy.
Sami is the ultimate professional. It is obvious she truly cares about her clients and is passionate about her profession.
I have already recommended Sami to several friends - and strangers - who have admired my hair and would, without hesitation, recommend her to anyone. She wants to know what you want your hair to do/be. She asks about your lifestyle, dislikes, anything that can give her more information about how to accommodate your wishes and needs regarding color, time spent on your hair, cut, etc. She also explained in detail how and why she was drying my hair the way she did and the effect it would give so it was easy for me to duplicate the look.
Before I left I made appointments for the next 3 months. She does a lot of photo and film shoots and has many regular clients so I didn't want to take a chance of not having my color and cuts.
Thank you, Sami, for a SUPER hair experience and for your creativity and caring. Love the ambiance of your salon and am grateful for your talent.

my first visit to this place was for a corrective haircut. within minutes, i was transformed back to a normal and sexier person. Sami is just too good, with hair and as a person, they go out of their way to be nice to you, wil try everything to accommodate your appointment on their calendar. Jill did my new look the last time and i love it. the compliments - omg.....
Love you so much Sami & team! Am eternally grateful to my girlfriend for suggesting this place.

Like everyone else reviewing here I've searched high and low for some place unique to work their creative magic on my hair. If you are a perfectionist or of artistic bent Touch of Red's extraordinary hair artists (Sami's input and Jill's attention to detail will amaze you). I told them what I was thinking of, how often I wanted to come in and I was not disappointed. Jill and Sami put their heads together while they quickly dispatched other customers and during the whirlwind of hair magic that happens everyday at Touch of Red they found a great color, cut, and style that was all my own. I am sooo pleased that my 3 daughters, son, & mother have appts and I can't wait to see what they think up for them--whatever magic they whip up, I know they will look amazing!

I'm good at finding "the best" in whatever city I happen to be working in, however I really lucked out when it came to Touch of Red and landing Sami as my stylist when I arrived in Houston.

The salon is a former brothel/boarding house so it immediately feels like you're in someone's old, comfy house to begin with. Both Sami and Shannon (owners) treat you with respect and are fun, talented people to hang around with while they do your hair and make you feel fabulous all over.

I can't get over how gracious and fun these two are, as well as the rest of the staff at Touch of Red. Expect to get the down low on more than your cut and color: these ladies know who's who in Houston and can point you in the right direction for a multitude of needs, above and beyond your hair.

Meeting Sami and Shannon and the Touch of Red crew had made my stay in Houston all the more pleasurable, and I'm so grateful for listings such as Citysearch to be able to locate the best of the best.

A satisfied customer, indeed.

After reading tons of reviews on city search, I decided to schedule with Sami for my color correction and cut. I am so glad I did...Sami is a miracle worker! My new red hair is really beautiful...my husband loves it:) She is so talented and knows what color and cut will work best for you. I also enjoyed talkiing to Sami and everyone while I was there. I had a blast!! I was treated like an old friend.
Sami knows what she is doing and is a real sweetheart...I also appreciated her honesty when deciding on a new hair color...

April is the person to go to for a brazillian wax at the touch of red salon. I have been her customer for over a year. I started seeing her when she was at her old location in Clear Lake and followed her when she moved to the Montrose area. She makes you at ease, I have never had a bad skin reaction to the wax, and I am always in and out of the salon within 30 minutes!

I strongly recommend April!

April is the best waxer ever! I've had bikini and brazilian waxes before, and I always ended up really dried out or sensitive for days after. But the wax she uses works so well, and she's most definitely the most comfortable person I've ever had wax me. Simply spectacular. I make monthly trips to Houston just to see her.

I can't say enough about Sami and everyone else at Touch of Red. After moving to Houston 2 years ago I struggled to find a salon that offered consistently beautiful results. I'm so so happy to have found Sami. She does fabulous work!

My highlights always look great and she is very fast - which I really appreciate. She also gives great cuts - she really works with my superfine and weirdly curly hair. And as much as I've loved my favorite salons in other cities, only at Touch of Red have I ever been able to count on leaving the salon and looking great for the rest of the day. Stylists have always tended to use too much heavy product on my hair or just couldn't work with my many crazy cowlicks, but Sami does a beautiful job every time.

I love the cute eclectic house and resident chihuahua, but if you prefer bland, antiseptic, strip-mall spaces, it may not be for you. Sami and a lot of the other staff at Touch of Red have big personalities - it is generally fun and loud place. Sami also has a big heart - recently squeezing me and my best friend in for my wedding - and doing an absolutely stunning job.

I have been going to April for a year now and chose to drive an hour where she was at rather than change to someone nearyby. She makes you feel comfortable with her genuine smile and her welcoming personality. She does a tremendous job and I always feel cleaner when I leave.

April with Winkin Twinkies couldn't be better. Very professional, and what a clean and relaxing atmosphere. Wouldn't go anywhere else. The 45 minute drive is well worth it.

I went to touch of red to get my hair cut and highlighted by Sami based on all of the positive reviews. I found the salon did not feel relaxing at all. Sami was doing too many things at once and seemed rushed. This will not be the salon for me.

My hair was a mess ,I went to a top dollar salon and came home with orange hair ,I looked like a pumkin and it was bad my co worker told me to call Sam it took four weeks to get in but it was well worth it the girl is in high demand and very busy little thing let's say the staff is wonderful the shop is small with lots of big hearts and big smiles . I have been going to the Touch of Red salon with Sami since she moved to their current location and I was very excited that they were offering waxing with Winkin' Twinkies. All I have to say is "April is great!" I had an appointment with April last Thursday for my first wax ever. Needless to say I was very nervous. She was very attentive and put me right at ease. April is very professional and very easy to talk to, I didn't even feel like an idiot making small talk while I was in a very unusual position. Not only did April put me at ease, the wax was almost totally pain free (there are some areas that just won't be pain free). I would highly reccommend visiting April for a comfortable experience and a great wax! Thanks to everyone at Touch, Sami, Shannon, April, Tom and Kenny! as usual, I love y'all!

April has been my esthetician for over a year and she is awesome! She makes me feel very comfortable and at ease when I go in. I DO however recommend purchasing a product that she has called "No Scream Cream"...IT WORKS! I get the full brazilian and it really does help make it less painful! She does a great job and is very thorough! I highly recommend April at WInkin' Twinkies!

1st off, April is the best!! I must say she is the ONLY person that I feel comfortable enough with to wax the twinkie! April is very professional and at the same time you just want to talk to her about everything. She has the best wax ever. It doesn't irritate my skin and it doesn't hurt as much as the waxes other estheticians use. April is very thorough and ensures you've received the perfect wax every time no matter what area has been waxed. I've had the full leg wax along with the Brazilian and I have NEVER left dissappointed.

I never go back to the same salon twice. It isn't that I haven't been pleased with the color and cuts I get, but I've just never been so impressed that I wanted to go back. Touch of Red is a different story. Sami gave me a cut and color and I loved it! Everyone in there is personable and that makes the experience that much better. The atmosphere and the service you get at Touch of Red is just wonderful, so I'd highly recommend it.

I have been getting waxed by april for over a year now and I have to say she is the best i have experienced. i will not go anywhere else. not sure if it's her, the wax or both, but her service is so much less painful than other experiences i have had. My skin does not seem to get near as irritated. I also feel so comfortable with her. The fact that she can make me laugh during the service is so great. I highly recommend april at Winkin Twinkies for your next wax. you will not be dissapointed:)

I was referred to April at Winkin Twinkies by a friend. She is in the Touch of Red Salon off Montrose. I am a guy, and I had never had any waxing done before, so I was pretty reluctant. But I have to say that April did a great job of explaining everything and really setting me at ease with the whole process. She is very friendly and upbeat, and she made what could potentially have been a very awkward experience into no big deal at all. I think it went pretty quickly as well. And I will also say that my girlfriend was VERY pleased with the end result. ;) I would definitely suggest givng her a try.

NO NO NO PAIN!!! I have been getting waxed for years but never had I had such a wonderful experience. I have good hair, however right before the holidays began a very well know and uptown salon did me in! My highlights went from a gorgeous mix of brunette to fire engine red, then pumpkin orange and finally a glorious fuschia. I studied the internet and found Sami and Touch of Red. After reading the reviews I called on a Sunday expecting to leave a message. Shannon answered the phone and told me to stop in anytime so Sami could figure out what to do. I went in the following Tuesday. Sami looked at my hair and told me to come back on January 7. OMG! What do you mean the 7th???? She was booked solid. My standard MO was to find someone else to correct this now. Boy am I glad I waited it out. I went in and a few short hours later came out feeling glorious. My hair shines, the highlights and color is the best I have ever seen and my husband just kept complimenting me.
Can't get in? Make an appointment, wait it out! She is soooo worth it. Shannon is incredible and gives the best shampoo ever.

I visited Touch of Red a few months ago after a long search for a great hair salon and I was pretty sure I had found THE place. I made my next appointment a month and a half in advance, knowing that they are busy and because I really needed a Saturday appointment to have great hair for a wedding later on that evening. On Friday night (when I still hadn't received a call to confirm my appointment) I called to double-check my appointment time and it turns out I never made it on the books. I understand mistakes happen and I was more than willing to give Touch of Red a second chance, but I felt like they didn't need -or even want - my business. I asked if I could be put on a list in case any cancellations came up, but all I was told was that they would take my name and number and get back to me. When I called the next day to see what was up, I was told again, they would get back to me. It's been over a week - and I have not heard a thing. Not even a "I'm sorry we haven't had any cancellations, let's book you a new appointment." I understand that they're busy (I'm busy too!) but I'm still surprised at their lack of customer service. My search for the perfect hair salon is back on....

Having recently relocated to Houston from out of state and having to leave my fablous Hairdresser for the last 16 years,one of the biggest stressors I experienced was the search for a new Hairdresser. To me, a salon visit should be intimate and relaxing. It is of utmost importance to feel comfortable not only with your stylist, but with the salon as a whole.
I had been to a couple of salons that advertisied high above the actual standard of service they provided, before my visit to A TOUCH OF RED SALON. When I called for an appointment, they just happened to open up a Saturday for booking due to their holiday schedule demands...and I obtained an appointment to be seen within a week ! Sami and Shannon were welcoming and their salon is very comfortable, no shiny rows of anything. I felt like I had been going there for years.
I admit my hairstyle really needed to be updated, but the age transition issue is a hard one. Sami is very sincere and instills a since of trust in her skills...rightfully so! I am happy with the cut and the color is the best my hair has had! As a medical professional taking care of others, I guess I just forgot about taking care of me.
I am very happy to say my search for a fablous salon has ended! If you want to feel positive and beautiful when you walk out those salon doors...Touch of Red Salon should be your choice as well. I would highly recommend them. Thanks!

I used to go to Visible Changes all the time but I wasen't really satisfied with their work. After giving visible changes several chances, I decided to try something new. I wen to Touch of Red and I loved it! Sami took into consideration my skin color, my job, if I tan and how often I style my hair. I have been to Touch of Red three times and I always loved the results. I think that anyone who wants a new look or opinion should go to Touch of Red. I?m currently a BIG fan of Sami when it comes to getting my hair done! I have been getting my hair done with Sami for the past 5 years and would never think about making a change. This past weekend I had a big event that I had to attend and I called Sami to see if she had an appointment available. I pretty much knew the answer with her being booked all the time but I figured I would give it a shot. Well I called and my answer was what I thought it would be. Sami had nothing available for the next few weeks. I was so worried at this point and had no idea of what I was going to do! I asked for Sami to call me back when she had a chance. Sami called back several hours later after she had finished her day and told me that I have this girl ?Kressa? that I had trained in the past and felt very comfortable with her doing some of my clients. I have had one on one sessions with her and feel like you will be very satisfied with the outcome. I then asked her will she use the same color? Sami told me don?t even worry I will mix the color up and she will just foil. It will almost be as if I was doing your hair? I then thought to myself do I go this event with my black roots showing or do I take a chance on this girl that Sami is recommended. Surely with me being a longtime client of Sami?s she knows exactly what I like and would not give me anything less then that! Needless to say I took a chance and I LOVE IT!! Sami was right Kressa did a great job!

I have lived in Houston all my life and have lived "inside the loop" for a couple of years and have had my hair done in ONLY the best salons in Houston. I have to be honest, I am NOT the type to write a recommendation at all. But, after wasting hundreds of dollars for years and not being completely satisfied with my color and just settling because I was tired of searching for a different salon or I liked the person who did my hair, I have learned to NEVER SETTLE! I was to the point where I HATED my hair color. I had been to a number of the salons posted on this website but I still was not satisfied. I researched "Touch of Red" and listened to Sami Kent on the video, I read all of the comments and decided to make an appointment. That is probably the best decision I have ever made in regards to trusting a perfect strangers advice and comments posted on a website. Sami had to correct years worth of color mistakes on my hair to get my hair to look natural again and she was able to put the hi and lo lites so close that I do not have to come in every 6 weeks because my roots are showing! I have never been so satisfied and pleased with a stylist ever before in my life! I receive compliments all the time on how beautiful my color is and how natural I look! In addition, I am not having to constantly come in for touch-ups because my roots are showing. Please learn from my mistakes and the other girls that have been there before you too, save yourself the money and time and make an appointment with Sami, you will be exceptionally satisfied and you will look a lot better too!

Just went to Touch of Red and had hair colored and cut by Sami. She is wonderful!! My hair is very fine and hard to cut since you can see every little snip and she took her time and gave me a GREAT cut that I am very happy with. My hair was also previously damaged a year ago by a colorist so I had a lot of breakage!! She was able to give me a great color with lots of shine and cut all of my broken off hair to blend in with my cut. VERY impressed!! I highly recommend Touch of Red!!!!! Great experience!!!!

I want to thanks Sami I have been going to see her for a year I fly in from New York three or four times a year and let me say its well worth it . I use to go to a very Fancy top dollar salon in Manhattan and I was never happy the last time I went I came out with black low lights and white huge chuncks of course Sam fixed all that she is great with corrective color. I have a very public job with the media and thanks to her she saved me. This time around she fixed my mom's hair some one did it and she look like a little PAPAYA no more PAPAYA after Sam got done with her she looked like a movie star my dad was pickled pink , you do need to call way in advance Sam is one busy CHICA

I have worn my hair natural (without perms) for 6 years and throughout this journey I have found that there are a lot of licensed and unexperienced stylists. When Amanda became my stylist, my hair took a turn for the better. It's healthy for the 1st time in 6 years. She knows what products, and styles to recommend and she's very good!!!! If you haven't met Amanda, you need to! If you haven't had a great stylist, you need to meet Amanda! She gives personal attention and she's interested in your hair not just your Cash! And the best part is she's in Houston! A Touch of Red is HOT!!!!

Before I got my hair done by Amanda, I was in tears. I went somewhere else and they cut my hair uneven and had me looking jack up and had the nerve to charge me alot of money. Amanda fix the problem quickly and at a very reasonable price. She also does a great job with perms and color. I promise you'll be more than satisfied when she's finish with you. She's the only person that I let touch my hair for real now!!!!!!!!!!!

My dark hair turns a horrible brassy orange every single time I color or highlight it, but Sami has completely taken care of that. My highlights finally have the soft beige-ish look that I've been after for years, my overall color matches my skin perfectly, and I don't get the damage that I get from other places. After hearing a million times that the look I want is impossible to achieve, Sami took one look at me and nailed it right on the dot. She really is amazing!

This was my first time in Touch of Red. I found them on Citysearch while looking for color repair after a horrifying experience at a "chain" salon. I took advantage of the free consultation with Sami and felt instantly that she was an expert. She did a corrective color and cut and my hair is fabulous! She told me to bring in pictures of what I wanted and she matched them perfectly and actually made my hair even better than the pictures. She took her time with me and made me feel important. Sami and Jennifer stayed way after hours to complete the incredible transformation.....wish we had done a before and after photo! I will definitely be back and I even called my sister on the way home to tell her she has to go to Touch of Red next time she is in town.....my treat! What a spectacular salon.....wish there were more people in the world that truly care about good customer service and quality work! Thanks Sami, for giving me back my spark!

I recently came to this salon as a new customer ,and I am so pleased with my color and cut. I've been dyeing my hair myself (out of a box) for the past year and a half ,and I had gotten tired of the reddish color that always came out. I decided it was time for a change to so I made an appt with Sami after a friend recommended her. She evaluated my hair and recommended highlight/lowlights. It came out spectacular! I am so happy and I will be coming back. Touch of red is unlike any salon I have ever been to and I loved Sami and her staff.

Being a mom of two teenage boys, I like to look current, but working downtown, I also need to maintain a professional appearance. I've been to some upscale salons in Houston, but so far, no one, NO ONE, has been able to do my highlights exactlly like I want...it was always too brassy, too orange, not bright enough. Sami gets it right on. She's great. She has an exceptional ability to zero in on exactly what will work for your hair and give you options. I have never been happier with my hair color than I am now that I have found Sami. She also spent the time to get the feel of my hair and suggest a style that is current. Before Sami, I might ask my hairdresser for a change, but I always came out with the same. Sami listens and gives constructive feedback for your hair texture, age, face shape, etc. The shop is also fun, and it's a treat to go there. I look forward to every appointment and couldn't be happier with my hair than I am now that I know where to find Sami and A Touch of Red!

A Touch of Red is a wonderful place. Sami is very cool and will make you feel right at home, no matter what your walk in life. You can go casual and be yourself. The thing I like most about the salon is Sami has the ability to understand what you are trying to convey about your hair style or color, even if you don't know exactly how to explain it yourself. I am very particular about my hair and she gets my color and cut right on everytime. She strives to give you a positive experience at every appointment and she does all of this along with getting you in and out quickly, for a great price. I came to Touch of Red with Horrible Hair, I thought I was beyond help. I talked with Sami first and was given great advice on my hair. Sami took the time to tell me what hair color would compliment my skin tone and what cut would compliment my face shape, the end result was amazing. I came to the shop with no hope and left a different women, I felt so good about myself. The shop is very cute and cozy. I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door and offered a beverage. I felt very at home and not like I had to impress anybody. If you are looking for a great salon don't think twice about Touch of Red.

I have hot hot hair I was sent by my sister. I went some where else, and I was ever color of the rainbow I had white Chuncks with black chuncks Sami did corrective color she gave me a nice warm brown with shear Lights I have a high profile job in the courts so I need to look nice. I came in and my hair was so yellow, Sam did corrective color and I love it she did three or four colors and I feel like a movie star I fly in from New york every three months and this is the third time I see her I waited to write this just to see if Sam was for real I love my hair I do have to book in advance but O well you do have to wait for the best Thanks Touch Of Red Love Ya Debra

I would say i was 100% satisfied with my hair cut but not satisfied at all with my color. I asked for shades of light brown highlights and i got blonde. They tried to fix it and now its an orangey coppery color. Just what she said it wouldnt be. So now i have to eat the over $200 bill and find some place to fix the orange issue. I might go back for the cut but will pass on the color. The workers are very friendly and make you feel right at home.

Pros: Nice workers, Wine, Close to home

Cons: Did not do what i asked for, parking, did not do what i asked on the second try

I dropped in without an appointment on my lunch break one day. DeAnn invited me to site down for a consultation. We talked about what I wanted and she gave her suggestions as well. I made an appointment for a full highlight and a cut. My appointment was last night and I love what she did. She understood exactly what I was trying to achieve with my hair (my last cut was by someone else and it was a hack job!). I have extremely fine, slick hair and lots of it. So that equates to a flat mop when it's not cut right! The highlights were full and bright but not over the top and the cut was perfect. The icing on the cake is that DeAnn is a very nice and genuine person. I'll definitely be going back.

Pros: Talent, talent, talent.... DeAnn is great at what she does! Easy to get to but...

Cons: Parking is tight

My family recently moved to Houston from Philadelphia. I was looking for someone I could trust. I found Touch of Red on Citysearch and gave Sami a try. I told her my story, "Before I had my daughter I use to be very daring with my hair. I always had great style and color but it always took me forever to get ready in the morning. I needed to find something that complemented my personality with my MOM needs (get out of the house in the morning)." Sami listened and gave me a great cut that also functions very well in the Houston humidity! I highly recommend her to everyone out there, espically if you are new in town, she knows alot about Houston! Thanks for all the pointers Sami!

Pros: A stylist that listens to your needs

Cons: Parking - I recommend the side lot, you won't bottom out your car.
