Opened in 1931 as the tallest hotel in Kansas City at 20 floors, with 450 rooms, built at a fortune of $1.6 million dollars, Hotel Phillips was the epitome of luxury from its inception. The 11-foot high golden statue representing Dawn, the winged goddess of the stars, was commissioned to embellish the lobby as a symbol of hospitality. Through the years, the hotel featured lavish dining and today's Phillip Chophouse was a dining room popular with World War II servicemen, as was a tropical-themed lounge with thunder and lighting sound effects and drizzling rainfall. Countless celebrities and heads of state graced its halls, including Presidents Eisenhower and Truman and screen stars such as the Barrymore family. In 1979 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.Lustrous art deco decor and the earmarks of a sophisticated urban boutique hotel.
This is a very nice boutique hotel in the downtown KC area, the rooms are small though (because of the hotel's age), and it's very pricey. They run some pretty good specials though.

Excellent old hotel in downtown Kansas City. Walking distance to the Convention Center and the new Power and Light District. Wonderful atmosphere and staff. Rooms are large - dining is great - parking a little tricky.

I snaged a great deal on a room and loved every minute of it. The hotel seemed pretty empty and the front desk staff very helpful. Adressing me as Ms. almost like I was a princess. The bed was SO comfortable and the room was exqusite! It was too bad I could only stay one night. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a nice hotel to relax and get away.
Pros: Fluffy pillows and great feel.
Cons: Maid came at 8:15!

We stayed at the Hotel Phillips for a weekend get away. We loved the art deco interior and beautiful lobby which greets you upon entering. The attention to detail is wonderful, down to the aveda bath products and the service is attentive from the friendly and professional front desk staff to the bellmen. The bed was extremely comfortable with a plush comforter and down pillows. I highly recommend staying here to anyone who wants a luxurious and relaxing time away!
Pros: Service, Luxurious Beds, Decor
Cons: Valet Parking Only

One of Kansas City's most beautiful examples of Art Deco Architecture has been born again at the Hotel Phillips House. This downtown hotel is once again one of Kansas City's finest. Where other historic hotels typically have small rooms and baths, these will surprise you in their spaciousness. Though it's puzzling with such large rooms why the current reincarnation failed to set aside any two-bedded rooms, all rooms are one-bedded kings. The two-story lobby is breathtaking and the lower level, formal dinning room is very elegant and romantic. The 12st bar is casual and fun but sometimes can offer bad surburban (garage band) entertainment. The Hotel Phillips House failures in the past have always been bad management rather than the physical property itself. Let's hope this time around a quality operator is more pemanent, for the Phillips House deserves nothing less.
Pros: Architecture, Romantic, Downtown
Cons: Only King Bedded Rms

Fantastic view of the old (and soon to be new) downtown. Did the romance package ... rode the old "cage" elevator to a beautiful room, with waiting roses, chocolates, champagne ... really wow-ed the little lady. Walking distance to a jazz concert, and great steaks downstairs. This is the perfect place to getaway to the city ... and know that you aren't in the suburbs.
Use the valet parking, or you may never see your car again.
Pros: View, Location, Big Rooms
