My Wife and I had the pleasure to work with Angela Ortiz The Event planer of this place.
We had a big group about 19 people and they were very caring and hospitable taking care of all our needs.

Try the garlic shrimp with tostones.. "The BOMB"!!!!
Thank you HRC.. I'll frequent here every chance i get!

I have been here for brunch on a Sunday, and I had a very pleasurable experience. I live in Hell??s Kitchen, and I don??t normally venture out beyond 96 St. mostly out of habit I would say. On a quest to discover new restaurants, my husband and I have have set out to visit new eateries other than the ones we normally frequent in our area. We searched for restaurants serving brunch on Sundays, and we decided to try the Hudson River Caf uptown and leave our area of comfort. This place was definitely a breath of fresh air for us. We love the place in its entirety. The food is fantastic, the service outstanding, and the place just gives you an all-around good feeling. The setting is modern yet has a very homey simple classic look that is very appealing and comfortable. The volume in the restaurant was perfect and inviting: there were muted and captioned multiple TV screens showing sports and news, low light jazz playing in the background, and a relaxing serene ambiance ?? perfect for an early day meal. The floor was full and yet the waiters managed to give swift and graceful service without the commotion that we usually experience in other full places. I tell you that after eating we felt we were enjoying the place so much that we stayed for nearly a good 2 hours ordering mimosas. I ordered the crab cakes with poached eggs along with cilantro grits. This meal was delicious. I??m a big fan of crab cakes, but I have never seen it served along with eggs which was an interesting and savory choice. The cilantro grits was amazing- very tasty and creative. My husband ordered the arepa with smoked salmon which he loved. On top of that, the service was very pleasing. The unlimited mimosas are fantastic. Hudson River Caf gets an A in our book.

We went there for a nice Sunday girl's brunch but after the frustrating, unsatisfying experience, I wished I'd stayed in bed with a bowl of cereal. I ordered the cajun shrimp and grits - what a mistake! How is it that a place in Harlem has such disgusting grits?! The grits were horrible and the the shrimp had the same disgusting seasoning. Did I also mention that we had to wait over 40 mins for this disgusting dish? Someone needed to send our waiter to charm school. He disappeared for long periods of time, kept promising our food was coming soon when it didn't and just didn't seem to care. What a ruined Sunday brunch!

This is by far the worse lounge ever. For starters the crowd is tacky! If your looking for an even semi decent crowd do not come here! You would think you entered a cheap "Gentlemens Club" Everything from the majority of women's dress style, in their cheap polyester outfits & no underwear to some of the perverted looking men with their unbuttoned top shirt buttons, hair chest and gold chains sticking out. A good friend of mine was celebrating her birthday there. We were seated by the Dj where we had a couple of bottles. There was "Female" that wasnt with us by our table, but paid no mind. Suddenly we notice about 3 security guards approach our area & they were tending to this now frantic "Female" we again paid no mind. Then a lady security guard a dark skinned Spanish lady w/black plastic framed Prada Glasses approaches us & tells us we have to leave. We ignore her, we thought she had us confused. She goes to tend this same "Female," that is catching a DIVA fit, then lady security guard comes back and tells us again we have to leave. We ask her why and she says "come with me and ill tell you." It turns out this lady security guard was the "Head of Security," At this point while extremely confused but not stupid for whatever reason this lady was going to walk us out and not let us back in. So we walk out and the security guard tells us that that "FEMALE," that was mysteriously by our table, was the OWNERS WIFE and that she was accusing someone from our party of trying to steal her purse while she left it on the couch/table area where WE sat. Another friend explains that one of our friends was simply trying to collect all our purses and in the effort of not taking the wrong one she was checking to see who it belonged to and left it there. So it was an obvious complete misunderstanding, yet they wanted to hear nothing of it, nothing was stolen or misplaced yet our whole party was rudely kicked out. The guard then tells us "oh okay now i understand, but you have to understand my position shes the owners wife so i have no choice." The lesson to be learned is if you go to this lounge and accidently cross roads with the owners wife she will get you kicked out!! And my advice to the owner is: Make a VIP glass enclosed area so that your PRINCESS WIFE will not in any way cross roads with your GUEST! The same guest that keep your lounge in business!!

I was looking for a great venue to celebrate my bday next may. I had to call the Hudson Cafe 3 times, I first spoke to the hostess, then the event planner to whom I sent an email with my request, she never replied to my mail.. I then finally spoke to the Manager who said that he will make sure to send me a a quote. I am still waiting for it!!!
What a shame!!, this is a typical example of business who is managed by the wrong people, in this challenging economy mistakes like that can be costly.

Well I must say that I was alittle apprehensive about this place because of some of the negative reviews but I had brunch here yesterday with a few friends and I loved it. The Jazz music was great. The Host Javon was very pleasant, professional, and very knowledgeable about planning an event at their venue. The food was great and so was the wait staff. Very attentive. Oh and lets not forget the Bellini's & Mimosa's....GREAT. I will be back!!!

There is something fantastic about being in a place for the first time that exceeds your expectations. It's delightful. This place has a special quality to it. It meshes modern sophisticated decor with none of the pretentious attitude of most places of the like. The restaurant is structurally beautiful. It's a hot combo of dual level indoor space, adjacent ground level outdoor courtyard, and upstairs patio. Its a gorgeous structure on a lone strip canopied by steel arches of the riverside drive as seen on the picture on their website. The staff is friendly and accommodating; the setting welcoming and pleasant; the food is genuine with a pan-Latin American flair. For taste buds like mine that have an erratic craving from day to day, their menu would offer an option for every palate. The menu includes seafood, churrasco, chicken, pasta, paella, empanadas, macaroni and cheese, exotic salads...a varied and excellent mix of options. I believe this is the new best fine latin cusine in town. 5 Stars! I saw their menu for brunch, and I'm looking forward to that next time around.

This is a loud and fun place to hang out for happy hour with your friends! The food is so-so and over priced - but the service and atmosphere and drinks make up for it - I guess they figure if you put enough drinks away - you won't notice!

I've been here several times for drinks, once for brunch and once for dinner. It's sad because I wanted to spend money in Harlem for my birthday but I won't be doing so. I have really wanted to have my 30th birthday party in August here and I was in Hudson River back in March and asked the manager and he told me to come back - like he couldn't answer my questions. I was ready to pay then...Then I was in there for brunch this past Sunday and told the waiter that I want to have my birthday and asked if I could make a reservation. He came back with an email address and told me to email. I then asked the hostess if I could just reserve the table I wanted and she told me to go to the website. I emailed with the specifics of my request. A day later I received an email saying that I should email the party promoter, who, I think, is the same person that I spoke to in March. I called him already incredulous to the legwork I'm having to do to spend my money. I told him that I wanted to reserve a table for my birthday and he said, "How many bottles do you want?" Ok. How much are the bottles? Do you have any packages? "Well for a group of 6 you'll have to get at least 3 or 4 bottles at $200 a piece. Really? Because I've priced way fancier places in the city and they have established packages for $400 plus tax. "I'm not trying to be cocky but the party is really popular and you have to buy at least 4 bottles and then I can see if I can waive the door charge." I'm sorry but you think I'm spending $800 in this dump and you were considering harassing my friends at the door? I just hung up the phone. This place is disorganized, overpriced, and the food is gross. I just wanted to have it outside in Harlem but now I'll have to scramble to find another place - probably downtown. I'm really pi**ed because I've been trying to plan this for months! They should do a better job of working with their customers or they're going to be out of business really soon.

Place turns into a lounge/club at night. Poorly organized, lack of bathrooms for amount of people, on top of being pushed and grabbed by the wrist by a six foot tall male security guard bc I didnt move in the direction he wanted me too (i am a five foot tall female), after I told him to let me go and started screaming because he didnt he called for 3 more male security guards and it took for my boyfriend to break thru the huddle they had around me fo let me go-i did file a report with the precint, meanwhile girls where fighting over bathrooms upstairs. DO NOT GO HERE. Not worth the hassle at all. Very BAD.

Decided to take in brunch impromptu, went to HRC as a walk in, promised service after 2o min. wait, invited to sit at bar to order drinks, after 30. mins and no follow-up from any host, checked back in with staff, told by male host with heavily vaselined lips that now he had no idea how long it would be, taking reservations in, basically chastised for not having a reservation, told that he had to take his "regulars" first, basically his "special" clientele..continued to wait...watched people come in after us be sitted.... stared at an empty table directly in front of us for over an hour ....questioned staff one last time..Mr. Host tried to justify the long useless delay...along comes young short latina hostess who had no idea what was going on...testily justifying the empty table by explaining that a woman had a 2 o'clock reservation (we were there before 1pm) and I exhaustingly informed both parties that my small party of 3 could have eaten and been ready to leave while these geniuses tried to figure out how to fit us "non-regular walk-ins" into their schedule. Left very frustrated and more hungary than when we came and had to pay the valet $10.00 to illegally park my car directly across the street...Went to York Grill which is a " true" upscale brunch with good food and a cheaper price...don't waste your time here...the food looked awful anyway...ugly food on pretty plates with pseudo-upscale flavor...

I went for brunch today for a friend's birthday. We had a party of 10. The first sign that the brunch may not go well, was the waiter ASKING if we wanted water. Isn't that an automatic at a restaurant?!
The next sign was their plate of muffins and sweet rolls. They gave us one plate with 5 choices... did I mention it was a party of 10. Then the Bellini and the Mimosa, that were supposed to be unlimited, were only refilled once. Call me crazy, but there should be someone continuously filling empty glasses.
The food was absolutely fantastic. We were being understanding since it seems they had only one waiter for the room. He seemed to get more help halfway through out brunch.
However, the wait staff member named Damien was the best. I don't even remember our waiter's name. If anyone from the restaurant is reading this, I suggest you make Damien the guy who takes orders and takes care of the tables. A person with a great personality is needed for the job, to entertain, and have us come back.
This is a great place if you are not someone who cares about service. The food is great but I do not see myself coming back anytime soon.

I went there for my friends birthday with 7 other friends. We made reservations for 8pm (although we requested 8:30pm the hostess said we HAD to reserve from 8pm but that it wouldn't be a problem if we got there at 8:30pm) Well once there we were told that our tables were given away and that we had to wait 15 mins, which turned into an hour.

After an hour wait we only got 1 table for 4 people when our party consisted of 8 and where given a hard time when we requested more chairs. Once seated the waitress said we either order NOW or wait till she has time she had other tables to serve. ( wow, the attitude) Any how; we finally got our food and can you believe we got burgers before we got our salads, in fact our salad didn't even arrive until every one was finished eating and was already on the second drink... Not to mention the BIG PLATE(which supposedly serves 2 people) was the exact portion size as the SMALL PLATE but twice as expensive. And we were being rushed out although once we asked for the check it took us 15 mins to find our waitress and another 15 mins to actually bring it.

All in all... Too expensive for the type of food and service they provide.

Food was awesome, great flavors. My favorite was the calamari salad in the first course. Service was knowledgeable and attentive. My friend couldn't decide between the ribs and the schrimp for his entree and our server was kind enough to have the ribs prepared as an appetizer for him.

The ambiance is not quite as impressive as the food and the service. It somehow has a casual feel to it, which can appeal to some, but for the price we were paying, I would have wanted the atmosphere to match the food.

Bottom line is...it was a great meal.

First I would like to state I am a huge supporter of my neighborhood eateries! I went there with my husband, my best friend and her daughter to celebrate (prom). $10 valet is a rip off when at Cova down the street it is free... after we pay valet hostess ask do we have a reservation --- no we did not but she says give me 5 minutes let me see if something is available. Well the place was pretty empty and we get a seat inside. Now for food, my husband is a big fan of chumichuri sauces and they had an entree (steak) that came with 3. My question is since when is Ketchup a chumichurri sauce? Steak for both my husband and I were over done we ordered medium. Wings that were ordered were okay. The pork chops looked great but were hard to cut into (overcooked) and the chicken was okay. Service was not great as we could never find our waiter when we needed a steak knife. The water boy was always ready to serve up the water. It took forever to get our check. We will not go back anytime soon.

My wife and a friend had a very bad experience there. We will never go there again and will never recommend it to anyone. The ambiance is good. The service, food, cleanliness, parking and regulations are bad.
We went there for Lunch on Sunday afternoon. The sun was out and we were going to the park afterward. We approached the door and requested a table for 3. The place was fairly empty, however well staffed. Before entering the hostess forced me to remove my Yankees baseball cap. My hair was a mess and didn't understand this requirement. I looked inside and saw almost everyone was dressed casually, in shorts, slippers, jeans, sneakers and even tank tops. I hate being forced.
They sat us in the sun. It was 90 degrees out and they sat us in the sun. Did I mention the place was empty. There were a bunch of tables that had umbrellas and they gave us a table w/o one and sat us in the sun. So after 5 minutes of baking in the sun no one approached us so I got up from my seat and walked over to hostess and asked to be reseated. She said "OK, give me two minutes." So we baked for an additional 15mins before I decided to re-seat myself. At the end of the meal we asked for the check and had to wait another 20mins. Did I mention yet, the place was empty !!
Now, I can't say the service was completely bad. The guy who pours water into your glass was very attentive. We would take two sip of water and the next thing you know he's over your shoulder filling it up again.
To eat, I ordered a $18 Kobi beef burger, medium cook, cheapest entree. I got a hockey puck back. Choked the hell out of me eating it. My wife ordered the same, well done, and got a medium rare, uhhh!!!! My friend ordered some fancy chicken thing with green beans. He said it was dry and lacked flavor.
To end, the place is FILTHY. Located between and below the HH Pkwy and W.Side Hwy. dirt fly's off the highway, above, down onto the dining area. Umm Yummy.
Don't go there!

Me and a couple of girlfriends went to the hudson cafe on a Sunday evening. After we were sat on the red couches waiting to be serviced no one ever showed up, we had to hunt down someone to wait on us. after waiting what seemed like hours a waiter tended to us. but not before we complained to the manager about the service that we were NOT getting. The manager ended up giving us free drinks and we ordered the lobster quesadillas (dee-lish) by the way. I guess that made the situation a little better. I am taking my fiance there for father's day I hope I'm able to write a better review.

Amateur service, bad lighting, lackluster presentation and a hefty bill.
Last evening was my fist time at Hudson Cafe, I chose the Porker Chops at as my main course.
Considering I am not a professional butcher and unlike my Father on Easter Sundays past, I was not provided with an electric life, I found it almost impossible to cut into the two oversized and overcooked pieces or pork. Since the table itself was wobbling and I needed to use such force with my cutlery, the glasses of wine and sparkling water shook and swayed as if we were on the sinking Titanic trying to enjoy our last meal.
My attempts to moisten and soften each bit of meat with the garlic and what tasted like soy sauce proved futile.
Now, keep in mind that I am not a food snob. My expectations were merely to enjoy a moderately priced meal, a glass of wine and nice scenery. Hard to come by in that neck of the woods. So, the fact that I actually told the nice but inexperienced waitress that my dish was far less then average shows just how unhappy I was. She was kind, showed no attitude and offered to remove it from the bill. I was pleasantly surprised and not what I was expecting. However, she left the plate of dissected meat for me to look down upon in disgust for the next 15 minutes. Important to note that on evenings when a live band performs they automatically include 18% gratuity on your bill. Can?t this place afford to pay the band it?s self?
At this point I had given up on any hope of the Huson Cafe redeeming itself.

My advice to you; go across the street to Dinosaur order the Wang Tango wings and a few PBR?s, tip the waiter what you think they deserve and call it a night!

I have been to many a restaurant hunting for a really good paella, and The Hudson River Cafe definitely nailed it over the top!

From the presentation to the extravagant portion, this dish is unbelievably delicious. There is a generous mix of lobster, mussels, shrimps, clams, scallops like no other paella. The dish was enough for two, but it was so tasty that I ate it all before my boyfriend could get more than one or two spoonfuls. He enjoyed the pork chops which he also raved was delicious. For appetizers, I recommend the calamari salad and the tuna and salmon tartar.

In short, this is an excellent place to enjoy a great meal in the magnificent outdoors. Thank you, Burst, the service was superb!

Ok where do I start? It was just great from a to z; from the cute boy who served me to the all around friendly staff. First I got a great banquet, then I got to look at the cutie serving me which well ladies and gentlemen was absolutely delicious eye candy. We followed by ordering their Lobster and Crab fondue - creamy heaven (served with flames and all) and their Wild Salmon 3 ways (smoked, ceviche, tartar). Not a fan of the smoked salmon, but the other 2 were tasty. We of course got a bottle of prosecco, which by the way was half off...they have half off the entire wine list tuesdays...u have to check it out. I had the roast butternut squash soup and the steamed mussels, my friend had the herb crusted lamb loin. We shared a complimentary birthday dessert (keylime pie- better than Steve's), a perfect ending.
I have been there twice since and have had similar experiences.
So ladies and gents you have to go to Hudson River Cafe to experience the food and the great ambiance..

I have lived uptown for years, and whenever my wife and I wanted a great meal with a nice bottle of wine we were forced to get in a cab and head down to the upper west side. That was until now!! We found a great restaurant uptown on 133rd Street and twelfth avenue. The Menu had a lot of items to choose from--especially seafood, of which I think im an expert. We happened to go on a monday night and were pleasantly surprised to find a three course prefixe for $19.95!! I had the Salmon with a horseradish crust--Delicious!! The wine list was eight pages long, but a very helpful man helped us pick a great french white burgundy that was perfect with our meal. We have waited so long for a real restaurant to open in harlem--now our wait is over! We'll be back many times--also, we loved our waitress Naomi!! She is so nice and warm, and seemed to know all about the menu. Great job! Keep it up!!

I took a friend from out of town for brunch here. The service was absolutely terrible. Not only did the waiter pay less than sufficient attention to us, but we had to go FIND our own menus and basically hunt down someone to get us condiments! We asked for pepper and salt - TWENTY MINUTES later the waiter comes back with two pepper shakers and walks away. My order was wrong, so I had to send it back to the kitchen. My friend's order was not anything like it was described on the menu.

The atmosphere was decent - nice outside seating and everything is fairly new. But the atmosphere in no way made up for the ludicrous prices, embarrassing wait staff and food that was not even close to being up to par. I could have gone down the street from my apartment and bought a brunch for half the price at twice the speed.

A complete and utter disappointment.

When writing a review for a restaurant, it is important to remember to write about the food and/or drinks, atmosphere, personal attention and overall cleanliness. With that said, the Hudson River Cafe is a bustling environment, ideal for after hour cocktails and a good time with friends.

I arrived with my friend for drinks at 7 PM. We sat at the bar, and promptly ordered two Malibu with pineapple cocktails. The drinks, made by a quiet but friendly bartender, were prepared in front of us. The delicious cocktail had just the right amount of liquor. My friend and I consumed a total of three Malibu drinks each. The bartender was consistent; the drinks tasted the same every time. The bartender also made sure to keep the bar area clean, wiping away any spills and clearing all glasses before continuing to make the next drink.

After our first drink, my friend noticed the two guys sitting next to us had ordered appetizers. My mouth started to water, and my friend suggested we order appetizers. We had crab cakes and spicy and crispy shrimp. The crab cakes were moist in the inside, but properly cooked. They were served with a tangy Dijon sauce, but the buttery crab cakes were good enough to enjoy without the sauce. The shrimps, lightly coated with spicy barbeque sauce, were tender on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The shrimps were properly cleaned (I checked), but most importantly did not taste of fatty oil.

While the bathroom located next to the bar on the first floor was unisex, it was spotless and organized. It is rare to find a clean bathroom in the city, and this was definitely a winner. Overall, the staff was friendly and attentive. My friend and I were even invited to a Halloween bash by the manager. I just made plans to go back next week, and I highly recommend the Hudson River Cafe.

I was visiting a friend in Manhattan who lives in Harlem and she suggested we grab a drink at Hudson River Cafe on a Saturday night. I looked at their specialty cocktail menu and saw their signature mojito was made with Cruzan Rum. I am from St. Croix where the rum is made and hardly ever see it in the states so that is the only reason I even ordered the drink. After ordering, I watched the bartender make mine with BACARDI LIMON! I would have rather had a $4 beer than a $10 cocktail made with freakin Bacardi. I decided not to complain, and took the drink. Right away i watched her make the same mojito for somebody next to me WITH CRUZAN RUM. I would really hate to think it's because I was the only white person in the whole place but I dealt with the same issues as a minority when I lived in the Caribbean so I can't help but come to that conclusion. Unfortunately I can't think of another explanation. Anyways, if you do decide on this place, make sure you actually get what you are paying for! I can't remember the last time I was so offended.

This restaurant uses the bike path for valet parking. this is, of course, illegal, and it also obviously endangers bikers - that can be a pretty busy road at times. It's also dangerous for patrons getting out of cars, and for their cars - bikers forced to ride a narrow line between the illegally parked cars and roadway can often end up causing damage to the parked cars. If you see the valet stand out on the bike path, please don't go into the restaurant.

Working in the area my girlfriend and I were excited about being able to get a couple drinks nearby after work. When we arrived at the HRC there was some sort of function going on and no one at the door had a clue asto wether we could still use the bar or not. The 1st question was if we had reservations, we had none and the guy was told by the hostess right away that if we did not have reservations we were not allowed in but when I stated that we did not want to eat just chill at the bar I was welcomed in. Why was that not an option from the beginning ? The hostess had a very bored and disechanted look on her face like she wanted to be somewhere else, with her cellphone glued to her hand like she was expecting a salvation call. She never once approached us to clarify. Fortunately for the HRC Kurt the bartender was there to save the day. Kurt was courteous, well spoken, attentive, super friendly and made my girlfriend and I feel super welcome. The Clams and shrimp appetizers were great and well served. I will go back but only to hang at the bar with a pro and not to necessarily deal with a less than upscale hostess.

4 months ago, during a nice stroll with my dog down 12th Ave...I noticed a new restaurant coming up next to Fairway. After a bit of research, I was thrilled to find out that finally there is a high end restaurant in Harlem about to open...that is there for no other reason than to cater to Harlemites. So...needless to say...when it opened, I went to check it out.
Now just so you know, in my 20+ years living in NYC, I've been to many many high end restaurants...I've seen celebrity chefs and newbies, good service and bad service...but what I've found is that management makes a restaurant. Well folks, upon visiting HRC, I found that it had THE single best restaurant GM I've ever seen in this city, and her name is Iman. When a manager like that touches a restaurant...it shows on the staff's faces. It shows in the customers faces. Over the last two months, HRC has become my home. I've been the regular of regulars...I know the owners, Hamlet and Max...I know the security guy Steve...I know the servers and bartenders. And until tonight...I would have told everyone to go to HRC.
However, tonight was the last time I'll ever walk through those iron gates.
Reason being...Iman, the manager, was unjustly fired for no reason at all. And the entire atmosphere of the place has changed in just two days. Not only were all the servers sulking around, missing the guidance of a brilliant manager, but the faces on the customers had changed from always happy...to extremely dissapointed. No longer is there a shining face there to greet you and shake your hand when you walk in, to give you a hug and let you know that she's happy you're there...now there are confused hostesses, lazy waiters, and no manager in sight. In fact, even the owners looked confused.

Believe me when I tell you...HRC is no longer fun. Wait for Iman to pop up again...and become a regular at her new place of employment. Coming from a once diehard regular of HRC...that's what I'll be doing. Bank on it.

Bank on it.

After nearly a dozen visits, the lovely two-story indoor/outdoor Hudson River Cafe continues to delight. I remain as impressed with the restaurant, the bar scene, and the staff as I was upon first coming. As for the food: While I have sampled and enjoyed a number of dishes there I am particularly fond of the barbeque shrimp, both of the paellas, and a great salad named after Iman, the Cafe's Uber charming and engaging manager. Every time I have visited the Cafe I have found a bar scene (indoors and outdoors) that was multi-generational and racially diverse, filled with laughter from folks who all seemed to be having a great time. I have to note the bartenders, especially Kurt and Herb, who go out of their way to make single customers feel like they have a friend at the bar. The owners, the truly beautiful hosts, the professional managers, and the attentive wait staff have made the Cafe a destination restaurant for me. The icing on this cake is the live bands the Cafe has on the weekends, a great showcase for some of the most enjoyable musical talent in the City.

Although I have had many dining experiences in lower and upper manhattan, I had never before come across such a genuine friendly, and happy restaurant staff. I mean from the hostesses when you first walked in, who I might say are gorgeous, to the management staff who personally stops by your table to thank your visit to this incredibly amazing establishment. Yes, I will admit, the prices are higher than expected for what is on the menu, but the indoor and outdoor architecture alone is worth the price. The waitstaff smiles, folks. Can you believe that, in Manhattan! They have employees that are happy to be at work, not unhappy for the inconvience you have caused for being at their place of employment. My collegues and I visit this new home of ours every week, and if it requires us traveling all the way from 39th and 5th ave to harlem for a reason to relax and spend our money, so be it. Listen New York when I tell you, Harlem has a new best kept secret coming to life, and it is the Hudson River Cafe.

P.S.
You can't get outdoor live music anywhere else in Harlem or lower Manhattan, that doesn't require a cover charge. We really need to eat this one up!

Pros: Great Drinks, outdoor seating, live music

Cons: Pricey

I had a mixed experience. The ambience and the service was great; the eclectic crowd interesting. Crabcake and shrimp appetizers were quite tasty and at $10 fairly priced. My dinner partner and I shared the paella. It was a disaster. The rice was dry and the seafood was overcooked. Never again. Moreover, it was $34! Wine prices are ridiculous. They appear to be 3x retail, if not more.

We sat in the patio area in front of the bar which is the most animated space and best for people watching. It was quite enjoyable until the five piece band came on. While the band did a good job doing ?60?s covers, it was simply too loud. You could not talk. The restaurant and its patrons would be better served by a less intrusive jazz trio.

This is a new joint and the jury is still out. I may give it another shot. All in all, it is very pricey for what it delivers.

I am a NYC restaurant diner and I have never had great experinces in Harlem so when suggested by friends that I go I was a bit apprenhensive. No longer will I judge all Harlem restaurants the same. From the moment I walked thur the gates I was amazed by the beautiful friendly host that welcomed me and my five gal pals in. The fantastic sounds floating in the summer air from an outstanding 5 peice band, and the dynamic range of guest.
We waited only 5 min for our 8pm res and the evening got better and better. W all ordered 6 differnt apps and 6 entrees and there wasnt one thing that I didn't like and the cocktails were so great that we went straight to the bar after dinner.
Not only was our server helpful in picking great dishes when asked to speak to the manager to get some more info on the place she was very helpful and really knew her stuff. Great choice of staff.
For the other reviewers I'd like to remind you that they have only been there 2mo. and it takes some of these downtown swanky places a year to get great. In my eyes they have jumped leaps and bounds over some of these other places. So give it another try because I'm telling you they are worth multiple trips. As a matter of fact I'll be there again this Friday.

I went to the Hudson River Cafe yesterday for Sunday brunch. I was really excited because I live in Harlem, and there are very few nice restaurants, and even fewer with the greatest customer service.
I will give them points on the overall appearance:Nice decorations, ambiance, they even have live jazz music from Thursday-Sunday.

I ordered poached eggs and smoked salmon with potatoes, when the plate came I noticed the salmon wasn't smoked but cooked, and cut up in little bits. I hate cooked salmon. When I brought this to the waitress' attention she simply walked away with the plate. Several minutes passed, and she returned and said,"that's how we prepare it." I explained to her my disappointment, and suggested that they should change the description to the menu. She simply said "sorry" without suggesting an alternative, or some type of compensation. And to add insult to injury, she added the stupid meal to my bill.
I seriously doubt if i would go back for a meal, they do have a nice bar so perhaps a great hangout in the evenings afterwork. I will wait and see how I am treated at the bar before I make my final decision. But for now, not impressed with the dining experience or the waitstaff.

My Boyfriend and I were thrilled when the Hudson River Cafe finally opened.
We decided to try it on Friday night. It was very disappointing. I had the Salmon and Garlic potatoes which was OK?but not the worst. My boyfriend had Churassco and Yuca Fries ( or at least what is said to be Yuca fries). I can?t agree more with the review below me. The Yuca fries were straight out of the box. If you are thirsty, not to worry the waiter will be glad to refill your glass, over and over again, at $ 10.00 per bottle. The prices are upscale; too bad the hostess & wait staff are not of the same caliber.

I?m in the Hospitality field and found the service to be ridiculous.
The Hudson River Cafe invited me to dine at the Hudson River Cafe, but I decided to go as a regular guest with out the special treatment.
I would never dine at the Hudson River cafe . Thank You for the invite.

Since my posting is about to expire & it's obvious that the restaurant staff is posting bogus "great" ratings, I thought it was imporant to inform potential customers to stay away from this lousy eatery.

After weeks of anticipation, my husband & I were excited about the possibility of enjoying a new trendy, local hot spot w/ fabulous foods and wines. When this restaurant opened, we had high hopes of an exciting experience. Quite the contrary, my breast of duck was dry like a rubber sole - completely obvious it was a re-heat, much like old fashioned TV dinners. The side of yucca fries tasted like it came straight out of a box! Even the goat cheese pocket on my sister's goat cheese salad was a prefab! In keeping w/ the theme, my husband's duck was bone dry & his plantains were hard as nails. When we gingerly expressed the poor quality of our food to our server, her comment was merely an, "I'm sorry," then walked away. Considering the upscale prices, one would expect an award-winning experience. However, this place deserves an award for the biggest flop. The next day when I tried to flag management about this disappointing experience in an effort to keep this pretty neighborhood watering hole vibrant, the unfriendly hostess could not be less interested stating, "send an email." So, I decided to write a review instead.

P.S. My sangria looked and tasted absolutely beautiful and my hubby's beer was cold. Needless to say, I can make sangrias and serve cold beer at home.
