In Short
Located in the Hilton Boston Financial District, Caliterra gives classic Italian dishes a northern California make-over. High ceilings, bronze walls, dark furniture and white linens give the restaurant its elegant feel. An inventive, seasonal menu includes staples like the Caliterra surf-and-turf--a filet of beef paired with creamy lobster risotto and a savory tarragon sauce. Decadent desserts include a refreshing lemon cello baba and sinful molten chocolate lava cake.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - The restaurant closes from 2:30pm-5pm as the staff transforms the menu from lunch to dinner.
  2. The Extras - Groups of 16 or more can reserve the private wine room for parties or special occasions.

Just OK

by Benjamin S. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 100

the food is just OK, the service is just OK; if you are looking for great italian you would be much better off going close by to the North End and find some authentic italian.

the menu is pretty good but the food quality not the best.

service was satisfactory

Expected More

by LEE7

Was invited to go to lunch with a couple of coworkers for restaurant week, checked out the menu before going looked good. We entered and the restuarant was pretty but looked beat. We sat down the waiter didn't even ask if we wanted something else to drink besides water. We ordered and I had the chilled pea soup which had a after tase that made me want to cleanse my palate with bread. I also ordered the duck... wow bad mistake it came out fleshy red i sent it back to be cooked more. The salad on the plate was limp. the waiter never came over to ask how the meal was or if i wanted something else. They did however pop the duck into the microwave becuase the juice from the undercooked duck was on the plate. Would definitely not go back again.

Pros: Oil For the Bread

Cons: Service, Food

I wanted to like it so bad...

by Jaje101210

First of all I also haven't gotten credit for the open table reservation...and that's disappointing.... what's worse is the meal that I unfortunately had there. Everything was extremely dry...I went for dinner restaurant week... the duck broke my heart. It was not good...and it was served on a bed of what looked like Chinese takeout white rice. The peach and prosciutto salad, also a bad experience. It was dry, not especially fresh (the seafood cosmopolitan was not especially fresh either...)...The chicken which was suppose to be in a mushroom sauce, didn't have mushrooms in it... the best part was the dessert. The dessert was great. I wanted to like this restaurant so bad. I picked it out of all the others because I though the menu looked fantastic and the atmosphere was romantic. Anyway, the service was fine, and the valet was super convenient... but there are too many great restaurants in Boston to think about coming here again.

Pros: very pretty, great location, nice hotel, valet very good,

Cons: the food was not up to par

Dessert: Chocolate Trilogy with a "special surprise" =/

by buboston

restaurant week pre fixe menu:

appetizer - mussels are very good, smoked salmon are okay.
entree - lamb is very good, scallops is also good, the mahi mahi was just ok.
dessert - creme brulee was good, chocolate trilogy was NOT supposed to have uncooked rubbery beef tendon in it!!!!

not only was there rubbery beef tendon in it, NO ONE CAME TO APOLOGIZE!! the waiter was just trying to cover the evidence. if you would like a chocolate trilogy with a VERY "SPECIAL SURPRISE" in it, then go ahead. i recommend it. they just pretended that nothing happened.

geee thanks!!

Pros: most of the food was fairly decent

Cons: the dessert had unexpected rubbery beef tendon in it, no one apologized!

Terrible, Find another place to eat

by nugrad2005

We reserved our reservation on opentable and were extremely disappointed with our entire experience. When we got there there was not a single person in the dining room and only a few patrons at the bar. During our entire meal not a single other table was filled in the dining room (we should have taken the hint and got out when we had the chance). A few patrons came and went in the bar area, but no other diners. The menu is small and over priced. The food was hotel quality at best. The wine list was expansive and priced fairly. The worst part was they never gave us credit for our opentable reservation. After a day of not being "approved" we called to see if they could update the status for us. After speaking with multiple people on multiple occasions our reservation was then marked as "cancelled." We called multiple more times and spoke with managers who could either not help us or would not call back as promised. We finally had to get in touch with opentable who overrode their system and gave us credit. Aside from a mediocre meal, the service and managers were atrocious. There are plenty of other dining options in that area, I would stay clear of this place.

Pros: Good wine list

Cons: Food is over priced and service is awful

Excellent Food

by bosox04

I went to Caliterra for a late lunch after a meeting downtown. I had never even heard of the place until I walked by it. The staff was very nice and attentative. I was constantly asked how things were and if I needed anything, but not so much that it was annoying. The food was great and the atmosphere is real nice. Gotta check this place out, its well worth it.

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere

Cons: Location

Totally disappointed!

by ashenaa13

I also had the $25 certificate and even with that it was very disappointing. The food was not good, steak was under cooked and potatos were too gingeri! and also the side of the sea bass was very sweat. Also I didn't have the previous experiences regarding the host. Also the food is way too over-priced. The waiter was very cold and the only time we visited him was at the end for the check! Overall I can say that we didn't like any aspect of this restaurant but its atmosphere. Trust me, for that much there are MANY other great restaurants to try in the city.

Pros: atmosphere

Cons: food, service, VALUE

I decided to visit Caliterra b/c i had a gift certificate from Restaurant.com. Without the $25 discount, I don't know if it'd be worth it. The lamb was rather bland, while the duck was a bit overcooked. The service as great! Our waiter, Ed, was great, although the busboy was a little creepy, and stood a little too close for comfort watching us eat our meals. Not the most amazing dining experience I've had, and I've definitely had better ones for cheaper.

Pros: service

Cons: food

I'd never heard of this place before, but my family came to visit and stayed at the Wyndham. We liked Caliterra so much that we hung out in the bar every night! The bar and restaurant staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and really make you feel at home. I can't wait to go back!

Pros: Ambience, Friendly staff, Good drinks

Cobbed at lunch

by Bostonbeans

What a find I stumbled upon by just walking by. I'm nosy and saw many gorgeous plates being served around me. My waiter was Jim and he really is very good.

Pros: freindly, attentive

Cons: crowded

Love it!

by cvirtue

We come here at least twice a month for lunch. The service is quick and friendly, not too much as we like to talk while we eat! The food is tremendous. We like the special monthly menus that are offered. Sometimes it's truffles, sometimes, pumpkin. Always very, very good. The Lobster Cobb is my friends FAVORITE. A twist on an old stand by. Awesome.

Pros: Great lunch place, Lively crowd, Fun
