Sushi Metsuyan is truly a fun sushi experience. Lots of fun choices for the adventurous sushi eater as well as the tried and true favorites. Several Sushi Boats to share with your family and friends. Lots of Hot dinner choices the Hot Salmon dinner is great. They do have a special lunch menu which is not offered at dinner time. Expect the place to be crowded no matter what night of the week you want to go. You can call for reservations if you want to make sure you are seated at a certain time. If you are celebrating a special occasion they do have dessert for those with room left after all the yummy food. Service has a lot to be desired but it is a small place and they try to pack as many people in as possible. Really fun decor and fish tanks to keep the little ones occupied while dinner is cooking. I have to say that the service was much friendlier here then the Flushing location only went once at an off time so I am not sure if it is always like that or if they were more relaxed as we were one of the few tables occupied at the time.

I've been coming to this place for years. Needless to say, it's just a great place with a warm atmosphere & excellent food. The staff is very courteous & Tuesday nights are a blast with regulars that arrive at the sushi bar early until the fun stops (on occasion they've been known to cut some patrons off from their sake for safety reasons). This place was taken over by different owners about 4 years ago and has continued to blossom ever since as they (the new owners) redid the joint and rule with a "customer satisfaction before the bill" attitude. Buy a large bottle of sake and they'll hold it for you on your next visit. I love Matsuya and really recommend it. Reservations for prime nights would be wise.

Pros: Warm atmosphere, great food.

Cons: Can be hard to get a seat without reservations on weekends. Call ahead.

On our way back from the hamptons, we needed to get a bite and decided to get some sushi. Zagat pointed us to this apparently revamped shopping strip sushi shop. To our surprise, the sushi was superb and the kitchen dishes were very "manhattan" except more generous portions.

Of note: Spicy Tuna, Fresh Scallop sushi, Barbeque Lamb Spare Ribs & Crispy Apple Eggrolls.

Oh yeah, the fish tank was a nice touch too.

I love sushi. I eat plenty of it, at least 3 times a week all over Long Island and Manhattan. Matsuya bowled me over. The quality of the fish, the preparation, everything.

This restaurant is in a corner of a shopping plaza, not near many other restaurants, so it can easily stay hidden unless you know about it. The huge tropical fish tank here alone is worth the visit--though of course the fish there are for viewing only, not eating. The sushi her is excellent with a lot of variety in terms of rolls. Good deals on combination platters as well. Don't write off the non-sushi part of the menu, its also very good, especially the noodles. Enjoy!

After moving to queeens from manhattan... I thought my sushi days would be coming to an end b/c there is no good sushi in between nyc and the hamptons right? EHHHHH! Wrong! To our surprise...and I mean surprise....this place has incredibly fresh sushi with aewsome presentation. My friends said that the kitchen food was equally to task. Definately worth the trip...we will be returning.
