Message from Osaka 46

With all of the stress New Yorkers face, the internationally recognized shiatsu massages by Osaka 46 provide strong relief from back pain and muscle tension. Sometimes a professional walk up and down the back is just what the doctor ordered. Before each treatment you will be pampered in a luxurious steam sauna, individual Japanese hot and cold tubs baths and a dry sauna. Most services also include mineral hydro therapy, time in a tatami room for relaxation and meditation and an herbal steam. Also, the pleasures of shiatsu can be enjoyed with a partner on the twin-tabled massage room. The luxurious salon has been featured in Vogue, CNN, Daily News and Elle. New York Magazine said that Osaka 46 is the "Closest many New Yorkers will ever get to Nirvana."

the most painful and horrible experience ever...

by oldplum

my husband wanted to go so i made the reservations specifically requesting no back walking & substitute it for a traditional swedish. because i was going to get oiled up for the swedish massage, i also requested that they reverse the order of the treatments to make the body scrub last so i can get cleaned off. everything was a "yes, sure, okay, no problem". the lady who greeted us had no idea what i was booked for, i had to explain it to her again & she had the same "ok yes no problem" attitude so we paid and proceeded to the sauna/steam/hot & cold water treatment. the cold water was ICE COLD & unbearable, i stepped in and got a cramp, the hot water was not hot enough, we quickly went though the motions and got ourselves out of the water area. they then lead us to the scrubbing room, when i stopped her and said i requested the massage first she said "no no but this is better for you this way" the truth is there were other people getting massages and there was no way we were getting the massage first. so we proceeded to the body scrub. we had 3 people working between the 2 of us. one person was scrubbing too lightly and another was rather rough & over exfoliated me in some areas. after that wrapped, i was looking forward to my oily massage. when they prepped us in the massage room, i reminded them i signed up for a swedish massage & NO BACK WALKING, they told me "no no this is better for you dont worry i tell them to make it lighter" so i again went along with it and it was the worst experience ever! the lady was too rough & when i asked her to lighten up, she seemed not to understand me & went harder, it hurt so much i yelled & was ignored. her phone rang twice. Again 3 people were in the room, 1 of them seemed to be a trainee. i endured this for almost an hour, i regret not pulling my husband out of there immediately. i came out of there w/ a cramp, & a bruised back w/ one section swollen. my husband agrees it was rough too but i am more banged up then him.

Pros: nice ambience

Cons: staff, massage, unresponsive practitioner

Awful. Don't waste your time & money!

by LuxL

My boyfriend & I were looking forward to the couples' massage @ Osaka, but were disappointed from the start. They make you pay for the treatment first, including a 20% gratuity (this ensures a tip, no matter how bad the massage). They offer 30 min. in the sauna, steam room & shower before massage. The sauna was not even warm. The "masseuses" were completely inept. They were basically rubbing oil into our bodies. We had asked for deep tissue/strong pressure. At one point an older woman came in, worked on us for 5 min each, and gave instructions to the other 2. Her cell phone rang loudly & she left to talk on it. One of the girls kept looking at the other to follow the steps. It seemed like they had little experience with massage. It was pathetic..
We complained on the way out - all the receptionist said was, "Oh, Sorry." So were we.

Pros: None. Not one.

Cons: Inexperienced masseuses, careless staff

Best Massage You Can Get!!!!!

by lilyrose4

I recently visited Osaka for a shiatsu accupressure massage. This basically means THEY WALK ON YOUR BACK. At first I was a littleworried as to whether or not this would be good, but I am so glad I did it. I actually had the owner herself do it. She was great. Very strong pressure, PERFECT FOR PEOPLE WITH BACK PROBLEMS. I will be going back soon! Also the spa itself is very nice, really big space, about 4 floors. They staff is very professional and knowledgeable. This is much better than those other spas who think they know about massage therapy. OSAKA REALLY DOES!!

Pros: Shiatsu Massage

Cons: NOTHING

Our Respite

by gretmcgo

Osaka 46 is the perfect respite for couples. My husband and I have visited here on 3 occasions. We'd go more but it's $100 ea & that is a steal in today's market. When you go as a couple at night you have the entire "water floor" all to yourselves: sauna, showers, steam room, hot and cold tubs. You can spend as much time here together as you like. Heaven! Then you make your way down to the massages and they are as aggressive as you wish. My husband is in a physically demanding job and this place is a dream for him and for us!

horrible.

by jj11

they charged me the 20% tip upfront - now i know why. This was the worst massage ive ever had. I had some painful knots in my shoulder/back area which i told them about when i booked my massage - but i dont think anyone even understood me. No attention was payed to my problem area - i had some woman stomping on my back - it hurt - she kept leaving the room, the last time she left she didnt even tell me my massage was over - she just left me there - the place is creepy, biggest waste of $120 - dont go!

Pros: none

Cons: expensive

NOT Shiatsu OR Acupressure, Just painful.

by kaijnn

I was just at Osaka 46.

I will NOT be returning.

The treatment I received was neither Acu-pressure, nor Shiatsu, both of which I am familiar with.

I walked in with a stiffness and pain in my neck. I walked out with that, as well as an aching back.

When I requested a 10minute head and neck massage, I was NOT anticipating or desiring someone to jump up and down on my lower back, or attempt to beat my sides.

Cons: painful, no english
