Great deco

by Bonnie A. | insider Insider | Rank: 21,100

Great decor - not what you would expect on 2nd Avenue. Menu has lots of variety - not just sushi. Have come here many times and never been disappointed.

Go for the Gado

by drink_club1

I was suspicious of the great reviews written by people who hadn't written reviews of anything else. Sounded fake.

But, even if they are fake, this place is really good. The maitre d' had a table waiting for us, and easily accommodated our growing group. He was right on the spot with recommendations.

The fried calamari was the only bland spot among the otherwise delicious food. The Gado Gado salad was the best new dish I've tasted this year. The waiter was attentive, and the staff did NOT pull away the dishes before we were finished. (Previous reviewers complained.)

Ai thought her coctail tasted like cough drops. The rest of us enjoyed Japanese beer. It's a great place. We'll be back.

Pros: Great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff

Cons: kitchen closes early, slightly bland calamari

Amazing Rolls

by crcatalan

It'll be my second time in a week coming here to this restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and the food is crave-able. Try the specialty rolls. Even the standard crunchy tuna rolls are yummy. My cousins both ordered different types of soups and raved about it. The seaweed salad was good too! Surprisingly the place wasn't packed. For good quality, reasonably priced sushi, this place is definitely on my high frequency list.

Pros: The amazing food

Cons: Havn't thought of one.

Best sushi in the area

by gisellebello28

I'm a regular here, almost every night. My girlfriend and I love the Crispy Crab Dumplings, spicy, delicious. The staff is so friendly. There's a particular waiter that I love, I dont remember his name but he always remembers our drink order and our sushi order as soon as we get to the table. Always a wonderful experience each time I come. The restaurant is real trendy and nice inside, the food is always fresh.

great bartender, try specialty rolls

by sebastiantorre

Nice place to relax with very professional bartender , very know-how. We didn't even have to choose the food he did it for us. Very friendly hostess. Generally good expirience.

Must try

by kmkc

If you like cocktails, be sure to try one of their asian cocktails - they are awesome. They are very generous with the tasty sushi rolls and the entrees are great. The staff is happy to explain the menu and flavor to your liking (i.e. extra hot and spicy). The staff was wonderful - very friendly and fun!

Fantastic food and Service

by dmhaggerty

We had fantastic and friendly service and the food was to out of this world. There were six of us and not one bad meal. I can not wait to return for the Shrimp with walnuts. Also the martinis are smooth and very large.

Pros: all of the above

Cons: none

sorry asian restaurants, this might've turned me off the style of food for good

by eater0112

Flavorless fried rice, I'm new to the city, so maybe this is just a common failure of asian food around here

Rude, overpriced, no class!!!!

by sviridov

Me and my friend were there last week, friday night. From nice interior design and what seemed to be a relaxing setting I had higher expectation for this place. Instead: waiters were very rude and uncultured. It feels like they picked them from cheap chinese restaurant with assembly line mentality. They rushed us through, they didn't check on us if everything was alright and overall had nasty attitude. Sushi wasn't good either, I had much better for much less. Overall, very unpleasant experience. Unfortunatelly!

Pros: nice interior

Cons: awful service

friday night experience

by jaycrew7777

i brought some friends to this unique restaurant on a busy friday evening. at first, i thought i incorrectly booked a reservation at the wrong place. the guy at the front door acted more like a bouncer. he asked for an ID, and wasn't very welcoming. i had a reservation, but had to wait quite a long time. the bar was really nice. the other diners seemed friendly. the vibe in the restaurant is great. the host is also very charming. perhaps there were too many people being ushered in...i felt rushed at times. the food was very good. i enjoyed the sushi and the curries. unfortunately, the waiters were not so knowledgeable about the menu and how to cater to the specific needs of my friends. the ambience was amazing, but i doubt i'll return. there are too many restaurants worth trying out.

Pros: nice host/manager, restaurant decor, quality of food

Cons: the evil bouncer, waitstaff, poor service

Bad customer service

by stacynovoshuk

My husband agreed to babysit our 2 months old baby so my sister and I could go out for the first time. We went there for a dinner and I was excited, however, right of the back the experience went sour. The guy at the door, didn't open door for us, but requested ID in rather firm and unpleasant voice. After we got sitted we were approached by a waiter within seconds, we told her we werent ready. Within a minute another waiter approached us asking us to order, as he was reached for my glass he accidently slam shut my menu and didn't even appologized. Drinks were good, food ok. My sister's fish was very small, sushi that I ordered could be better, rice was falling appart. Before we were done with our meal and drinks, the waiter brought us our bill. We felt rushed and I didn't even enjoyed my special night out. Would not recomment this place.

Pros: Nice drinks

Cons: Bad servers

This time around, not so great

by vin101960

Again, my friend and I were there not too long ago, at the bar, with a different bartender. Although she wasn't rude, she didn't seem too interested in us. She did do the least expected from a bartender. She wasn't too helpful with the menu selections. The hostess was more helpful with us. Once again, though the food and its presentation was superb. We sat for a while before she recognized that our glasses were empty. All in all, it's still a good place to go for Asian cuisine

bad customer service

by jh235

Went to Aquamarine the other night for dinner. Food was just ok. We had an issue that the manager had to come and talk to us about. He was rude and didn't help the situation at all. We left with a bad taste in our mouths. The so-so food isn't worth being treated poorly. I don't recommend this restaurant.

Pros: nice enough waiter

Cons: bad service, very loud

something different for the neighborhood

by hyeny

took some out of town friends here for lunch and we loved it! its a great spot in the neighborhood, and the ambiance that tries to be fun and hip succeeds. the service was good, and the food was good as well - not the best pad thai i have ever had in my life, but certainly nothing to complain about. the portions were just right. the lunches are maybe a little pricier than other lunch special around but not by much at all.

Pros: decor, music, atmosphere

One of my favorite local restaurants...

by paintmonkey

I eat here at least once a week and it's consistently good for both take-out, and about the nicest restaurants in the Murray Hill area for eating in - Their Pad Thai is about the best I've ever had.

My girlfriend is bored that I always wanna go to Aquamarine, but agrees it's always good (even if I'm not).

The menu leaves very little to be desired, and I try to vary what I eat, but I have my faves, so I cannot review the Sushi.

The take-out is very fast (typically 10 minutes from when I order). The decor is beautiful and the service is very good by NY standards. I assume they had a problem with underage drinkers, so they had a ridiculous policy of carding at the door, even for dinner, but they have lightened up and right now only card drinkers.

Try the Crab dumplings, or the Curry Beef, which is exceptionally oily, but also exceptionally tasty.
The liberal use of yard long beans is also something that keeps me coming back.

Pros: Just about everything - Never had to wait for a table, even when they're packed.

Cons: Music can be a bit loud for a restaurant, but it's quieter in the seating areas.

Good Murray Hill spot

by jddez

My finace and i live in the Hill and find it hard to get good quality sushi with in walking distance. This place rocks! Firstly the decor is great and they really payed attention to every last detail..check out the bathrooms. This place is so clean and hip...the only downside is some nights they blast the music and it is a little loud...but normally chill. Even stop by after work for a drink or a game on the TV behind the bar. Not only do they have fresh sushi and fun house special rolls...the cooked food is great too! Delivery is so quick!!!
The great place this neighborhood has been waiting for!!! Yummy!

Fantastic Sushi that's almost fluffy

by sodelicious

Honestly, this is some of the best sushi I have ever had, and I consider myself quite an experienced sushi consumer. Even the most basic roll, the eel and avocado roll, is so good it's almost fluffy. The specialty rolls are divine as well and very innovative. There is a lobster and seaweed salad with strawberry that's so good as well as a shoft shell crab with jalapeno. The prices are good too, very reasonable, almost inexpensive. The decor is very funky and fresh, with the stones lining the sides of the room and the water running down the wall, you almost forget you are in an overpopulated city. It's a must try!

Pros: Ambience, Food, Service

Cons: Nothing!

Breath of Fresh Air in the Murray HIll Scene

by qtgurljny

IT's nice to have a trendy restaurant with good food and beautiful decor breathe some life into the Murray Hill restaurant landscape. The food is really good. It's a small mix of asian fusion but, predominantly asian menu. The sushi is really good. The Coppalla wine was really good. The restaurant is REALLY beautiful. IT's done in a modern, lush sort of style with plush seating and low lighting. The sushi bar is open so you know it has to be clean and fresh. Overall, a jewel in my neighborhood!

run-of-the-mill food, but nice ambience and great drinks

by mbp117x

This place is one of dozens of totally average asian/pan asian restaurants in the city. I've not eaten much here that I would rate more than average, and the prices are somewhat high, considering the elementary level of the food quality. I don't know how they are going to survive in this neighborhood, since they don't offer their lunch specials on weekends. Maybe they're not in it for the food. If you visit, you shouldn't be too concerned about eating the food, either. Go in the evening or at night, with some friends, and just enjoy some of their good drinks and soak in the vibe. Some of the appetizers aren't bad.

Great Neighborhood Fun-

by tariahm

I went last night to have dinner at AquaMarine and I was impressed. I think its great and about time we have a restaurant in the neighborhood that actually has some ambiance to it. There are so many "midtown"-ish restaurants around here, this is exactly what we needed. It has a nice soothing vibe, the crowd seems fun and the food was great. I think overall the menu was a tad high for what you are getting, but hey- I think its worth it if the mood of a restaurant means anything to you at all.
ps- the music they play is great!

I like it here!

by moonbaby888

This place gets so-so reviews everywhere, but I have had great food here and I really like the ambience, too. I love the roti and the different shrimp dishes. The sushi is also pretty good.
I'll be comin' back!

Pros: ambience, good food, in the neighborhood!

Cons: a little pricey

Need to work out its problems

by helenahl

Great ambience. Sitting in the bar infront of the flat screen tvs was awesome however the food was so so. I had a duck salad which was large and the sauce was good but nothing spectacular. I also ordered sushi and it was horrible. The rice was warm and didn't have a hint of vinegar. I would not recommend this place until they work out their kinks.

Pros: Flat screens, Great Bar, Ambience

Cons: Bad sushi, So so service
