Tender, juicy, deliciously good! My first time here was the day before Father's day. A special treat for my husband, our kids and closest friends. Although the service and the prime rib were excellent I

There is a to-die-for Passion fruit martini here for those who don't do liquor straight. Lots of flat panel T.V.'s to watch ESPN or music videos on. Pool tables , darts and video gaming to past the time. A great staff that is more than happy to feed you one of their yummy items off the menu.
Pros: Great atmosphere. Lots of crazy lil decorations
Cons: Bathrooms are not cute but what dive bar bathrooms are?

Horrible fried food.....slow bar service... unfriendly waitresses who spent most of there time texting than working.... Don't waste your time......

Wow! Even the bouncers are friendly at this SLIGHTLY off the main drag bar. Yeah, the music is too loud, making conversation difficult. But that's the only thing I can think of to complain about. The wait-staff is effecient and so friendly you begin to wonder if this is New York. Ann, our waitress, sat down at out table with us and asked about our club. She actually seemed interested. She got our orders right, gave us a free cocktail, and a dish that someone else ordered and then changed their mind about. Even the bouncer, was nice-- and he's SUPPOSED to be mean! I'm sure glad this place isn't as popular as it should be... you'd never get in! --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
Pros: friendly staff, decent food & drink, great atmospher
Cons: music a bit too loud for conversation

This bar is the worst bar i have ever been to in New York City.... Tastless food, angry people arguing while playing pool, felt like there was a fight ready to break out any minute.... i love Irish bars but this place is not a bar that you could just walk in and pick up a friendly game of pool.... Was full of angry irish men fighting over a game of pool.... horrible table service.....

The Carriage House is great for a gathering after work or on the weekends. We've been several times and always have a good time. Attentive staff, good jukebox (not so loud you have to yell to talk like other places), not too crazybusy, near the subway, good drinks and decent pub food. Thumbs up, A++, will go again!
Pros: friendly, lots of space, pool tables
Cons: none

This bar is an excellent bar for hanging out with friends. The standard jukebox has a decent selection, and the music isn't played so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. The food offered is better than average pub grub, I highly recommend the wings. The Carriage House is roomy enough that you don't have to continually keep moving out of peoples way if you're standing near the bar, and there is an area at the front that you can actually reserve for parties or whatever reason.
It isn't a dive bar with cheap drinks, and it isn't a college bar packed wall to wall with people screaming to be heard, but it is a great bar for enjoying some good food and drinks with your friends.

Cool place to go meet up with friends after work. They have the usual bar fare of deep fried foods, along with some Irish favorites (the shepherd's pie is delicious). The bartenders and owners are friendly, and they have a decent selection of endrunkening equipment.

Not too crowded, good selection of beer and liquor, always friendly to me and my friends when we go. Owners are really nice, too. Decent music and prices. Lots of space (well, for a NYC bar)! :) It's a good place to chill.
Pros: relaxed atmosphere, service, selection, not too loud
Cons: Not particularly unique

Just like the irish would say, SHITE! Keep walking up second to the 80's to a buzzing avenue full of bars, restaurants and great nightlife...
Posted 08/07/08
All the food is deep fried and draft beer is warm and sour..... I agree, venture a little further up towards the 70's/80's - much better bars with more women and better food.... sorry..... Just don't want anyone to make the same mistake me and my buddies made!

Can think of better bars to go to.... Nothing special about this place.... wouldn't recommend it.... Slow service.... etc.
Posted 06/30/08
I would continue walking up 2nd ave towards the bars in the 70s, or even in the 80s....much better atmosphere and friendly crowd plus the food is a million times better.....if cheese sticks is the best thing anyone can recommend then i would not waste my time unfortunately... Not worth the money...

I'm only back home in Ireland from New York, we stumbled across this bar and i have to say it was the one bar that i really liked. The Bar staff were two irish girls from the north ( Think they were leona and julie) they we very friendly and they were the reason we stayed all nite, they spoke to everyone and created a good atmosphere in the bar, unlike many of the bars we visited. The service was excellent and the food was delicous i would so recommend the mozzerella sticks
Pros: The staff make the place
Cons: One toilet

This is a great spot to go for a friendly drink, its close to the train and only seconds from the 59th street bridge, the staff are all very happy and are all off the boat irish with to coolest accents i could sit there all day and listen to them talk ! and all very easy on the eyes ! one bartender gave us a round of shots and had one with us she got in with our fun and made our night a very momorable one, (i think her nane was fiona) hot to trott ! black irish! the food is pretty good but served on plastic plates ! its just pub grub but pretty ok over all you will enjoy this place great music and a pool table !

Don't appreciate being taken advantage of when i'm paying $60 for shots and the bartender casually throws it on top of the register... Also, the short waitress with black hair should not be in the service industry... The only good thing i can say is, the security guy was very pleasant.
Unfortunately not a bar i would recommend.

Best bar you can find. Good food, especially the wings. They also have daily specials on an already great menu. It has a great atmosphere, the decor has a touch of that old Irish flavor with a modern look, TVs all around so you can watch what games are on that day. A digital jukebox, pool table, video game and dart board. The bartenders are the best around, friendly and I don?t think there?s a drink they can?t make ( best prices ). When you go there you meet people who are fun and exciting. It?s like you become part of a family. You go once you will be back again and again. The Carriage House is the Cheers of New York .
Pros: never forget a customer
Cons: none

Recently, I made a trip down to NYC from Providence. While there, my wife and I stumbled upon this small Irish bar on 59th St. It was 5pm, and we were expecting a typical businessman happy hour. But while there were certainly plenty of loosened ties, The Carriage House also had one of the friendliest groups of staff and customers I've ever seen in Manhattan. Having lived there for most of my life, this is saying a lot.
The decor of the bar is great. Irish-themed, but not to the point where it becomes gimmicky. My wife and I found a few free stools by the end of the bar (from the looks of it, this was a popular area to sit). We were greeted by a girl with dirty blonde hair and a brogue just thick enough to make you want a Guinness. After delivering our order, the bartender (Caroline, I think her name was) talked with us for a good ten minutes. It was as if she had known us for years. And she apparently does this with everyone who walks in the door.
The bar became reasonably crowded, but never overwhelming, and the digital jukebox never became too loud that I couldn't talk to my friends. At this point, an hour or so into our stay, we had already been introduced to at least five regulars, who treated us like we came there every day (and from what I gathered, most of them did just that). We stayed for another three hours, and would have stayed longer if we hadn't already made other plans.
Bottom line: The Carriage House is one of the most comfortable neighborhood pubs I've found in some time. The drink options are plentiful and reasonably priced, and the food offered bar standards and some eclectic fare, all of which looked and smelled outstanding. When you top off the menus with the quality of the service and the friendly faces, you have a place worth visiting again. Our only regret was that we didn't discover The Carriage House while we still lived in NYC. But at least we'll know where we're going the next time we visit home.
Pros: Great selection, service, customers, music, food.
Cons: Don't have one in Providence

Went with a few guys who have been there a few times..... The bartenders were cute and friendly but watched this guy in an outdated ponytail who apparently is the owner get drunk and create a terrible and uncomforable atmosphere in the bar..... At one point he even screamed at one of the waitressess. I would prefer to spend my money somewhere else. Not a great place to pick up also - mostly guys!

Visited this bar on a reccomendation with a group of friends and other halfs recently during a reunion of sorts and I have to say the reception we got from the waitresses and bartender was excellent - super friendly and good fun.
The music in the place was great (especially when I was on the jukebox!)
The drinks were flowing - especially the cocktails which were otherworldly, the chocolate orange martini was delicious.
We enjoyed a great big platter of appetizers and the best wings I've had in a long time.
Enjoyed the pool when we got on the table as well as the darts and elec spot the difference (calm down!)
Good fun, happy go lucky place which will be on the list for a visit soon.
Pros: Good fun atmosphere, delicious food and drinks.

The Carriage House is right by my office, and I go there a couple of times a month with coworkers for beer, car bombs, assorted shots, and fun games of pool, elec trivia, and darts. The wait staff is friendly, you MUST try their wings they are fantastic, good pool table, and the best tables are in the very front (round table right by the window) and back ( seats 8-10 people, great for coworkers to chat while being heard), but I recommend reserving a table if you really want it. NOT a place to pick up girls, but definitely a place to relax and enjoy some libations. block away from N/R/W/4/5/6.
Pros: Wings, pool table, relaxed atmosphere
Cons: Not a great pick up or date place, food is kinda expensive

The House is a nice place to kick it, pretty boring and nothing really happening, but that can be good. The staff is really friendly and the drinks are good. A great locals hang out.
Pros: Inexpensive, Quiet, Relaxing
Cons: Not a pick up place, not an exciting scene

If you want a bar with a great atmosphere, great food, and the best bar staff in the city, this place is for you! This is the way every bar in NY should be...no pretension, no BS. The clientele is diverse and low key, the juke box has something for everyone, and there's a pool table and dart board to boot! I have been going to the Carriage House for years, and it is hands down my favorite spot in all of NYC. The staff at the Carriage House makes you feel at home (plus is home to the hottest bartender in NY - that's right CD!). So if you want a fun night out with friends, go see Richie and the crew at CH!!!
Pros: The people
Cons: None

A glistening piece of The Emerald Isle can be found in an otherwise mundane stretch of midtown
Manhattan!
This was the closest bar to my very first apartment in New York, and I've been a semi-regular ever since. There are pubs that pretend to be Irish, but this one is Irish-owned and staffed by friendly, mostly-female bartenders who all speak with a brogue as thick and sweet as Fruitfield marmalade. A recent renovation has resulted in eight large flat-screen TVs, making it a good, uncrowded place to catch a game on a Saturday or Sunday. They used to only take Amex, but they now accept all plastic. I don't live as close to the Carriage House as I used to, but I find the need to visit there a couple times a week, if only for the 20-ounce Guinnesses and the million-dollar smiles.
Pros: A bottle of Bud for $3 during happy hour; close to the subway and Bloomingdales.
Cons: Open til 4 a.m. most nights on a street that's partly-residential, so the bouncers/bartenders can occasionally be strict about maintaining order.

Has to be the rudest bar staff in the city!!! (except for one waitress)
This coming from a former regular.
Took friends there after work. Spent a whole paycheck .
Had all my songs on the juke box either skipped or ejected by the on duty bartenders.
Pros: Great Atmosphere
Cons: Occassional bar-tender attitude

Lots of wood, one of the important characteristics of a serious drinking bar. The waitresses were friendly, helpful, and willing to shoot us (with a camera, wadja think?) at a moment's notice. The place was not crowded, thankfully. The music was a bit loud, but not overwhelming. Not outrageously expensive either, considering the close-to-Bloomingdales location. The mostly male clientelle were not super friendly,, but not cliquish either. It's not a bad place to hang out. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC Drinkers
Pros: not crowded, good service , friendly waitresses
Cons: limited menu

I was having a great time at the bar with some male and female friends one weekend until the bouncer tried to push me and told me I had to leave. I was asked to stay by my male friends but the bartender asked me and all my girlfriends to settle the bill. The bouncer was rude and noted to my boyfriend that if I wanted to hang with the guys he would treat me like a guy. Not quite sure how kicking all the women out of the bar was doing that, I left extremely offended and upset. The place was fun with pool, darts and fun computer games, but if you're having fun they might kick you out.
Pros: fun computer game
Cons: rude bouncer

Great place for after-work beer and wings - very enjoyable, staff were helpful and v. friendly.
Great bar for pool, darts and those Irish shenanagans!
The only con was having to drink more beer waiting for our songs to come round on the JUKEBOX!
Pros: Beer , The wings , good music

Do not order the chicken skewers! They were approximately 1 nanometer in circumfrence; literally the skimpiest portions of meat on a stick I have ever seen. The fish and chips were ok . . . again, portions aren't too generous. Service was lukewarm; e.g. the server forgot to bring my malt vinegar.
Pros: cute place, close to the N/R, good vibe
Cons: chicken skewers, service

Definitely a laid back place complete with pool table and darts but not a good place if you don't carry cash and not a regular AMEX card user. Also a good place if you have a huge party and need the space since it's usually not packed.
Pros: Cheap drinks, no pretention, eccentric music
Cons: AMEX only
