We purchased our French Bulldog from Parrots & Pups and could not be happier with him and with the pet store and the service we received. Despite claims that they buy from puppy mills, I researched where my dog came from & made sure it

I see a lot of bad reviews about pet stores in general and I understand where some people are coming from because I swore that I would go right to a breeder.
I am a first time dog owner and have put a lot of thought into the breed that is

This neighbor pet store has given my the love of my life. Alfie. Of all my pets Alfie had been the healthiest and best! My little love is 9 yrs old and still acts like a puppy. In the neighborhood I have seen puppies of the same bred and they all have the loving personality & seems like they came from the same breeders. Alfie was bred by a family w/ kids, this I know as bec shortly after buying him, on a walk - he heard a group of children laughing and he immediately pulled me across the street to them. --- he's a very special animal.

If you're interested in knowing for a fact whether your Parrots and Pups dog came from a puppymill, go to Stop Puppy Mills and fill out their very detailed form. This requires your having your Parrots and Pups paperwork in front of you.

In the meantime:

Consumer Tips to Avoid Supporting Abusive Puppy Mills

* Consider adoption first when getting a pet. Animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes who need and deserve loving homes. Nationwide, approximately 25 percent of the dogs in shelters are purebreds.
* Find a responsible breeder and visit their premises in person to see how the parent dogs are living and the conditions in which the puppy was raised. Responsible breeders house their dogs as members of the family and do not keep them confined to cages.
* Don't be fooled by common claims made by pet stores when pushing their puppies. Good breeders do not sell to pet stores because they want to meet the families who are taking home their puppies.
* Don't be swayed by a great website or advertisement; many of the puppy mills The HSUS has raided in recent years hid behind beautiful and deceiving websites promising "family raised" puppies.
* Avoid the temptation to "rescue" a puppy mill puppy by buying him ?? your purchase will only help perpetuate a cruel industry and another dog will quickly fill his cage.
* For more information on how to get a puppy from a shelter or a responsible breeder, go to humanesociety (dot org)/ puppymill

I can only speak of my experience but I have to say it was a pleasant one! I have been a dog rescuer for almost 20yrs now & would have been the 1st one to tell someone to never buy from a pet store but rather go rescue from a shelter. However, we walked into the store just to view the cute puppies and fell in love with our Bulybo (Boston Terrier/English Buldog hybrid). We walked away, debating on whether or not to buy from a pet store but ultimately couldn't resist & walked back in & purchased him. The store was clean, the staff was extremely helpful and were very willing to negotiate on the price. Once we agreed to take him, the paperwork was filled out, all our questions were answered and our newly groomed puppy was given to us to take home! It was a very pleasant experience. That was 3 weeks ago. We just got a follow-up call yesterday to ensure all was going well with our pup (which, of course, it is!). I was very surprised & pleased that they were concerned enough to follow up (quite honestly, they got our $$ and have no obligation at all to follow up but they did!). I have read through other people's bad reviews and I feel like others do on this site -- the negative reviews are general, in nature. No specific instance or situation is referenced (it seems to be the 'nay-sayers' opposing buying from a pet store in general). I don't live in NY so I took the expense of taking my puppy directly to my own vet although the store offers you a free vet visit at their vet's office. The vet was pleasantly surprised that our pup was up-to-date on all his shots and was in great health! Our new pup plays constantly with our older dog (Staffordshire bul terrier mix) and is a welcomed addition to our family. I would recommend this store to anyone interested in getting a puppy who can't necessarily get to a breeder and who doesn't want to get one from a shelter (although it may be hypocritical of me to say, i would still encourage shelter dogs as they need homes, too!). I think this is as pleasant an experiance at a pet store as you can have & I feel confident that I would purchase again from them. Maybe I'm lucky in that my pup is healthy so I haven't had the experience of going back to them with any problems. But in my long dog-owning experience, my 1st Rottie pup was from a breeder and he was extremely sick and the breeder was unwilling to incur the vet costs to treat him. So you can have bad experiences anywhere is my point! The store offers you a free visit to get the pup checked out at their vet & you also have the right to get it checked out at your own. They give you a few days to do all this & return the pup so I think they're being more than fair.
Just my 2cents....

I think it's interesting that a lot of people who post negative reviews speak very generally. A lot of the positive reviews are from people who have specific stories and experiences.

Here is my story. I wanted a French Bulldog for years. I did everything right. I contacted breeders. I did so much research. Then I walked into Parrots and Pups and fell in love with a puppy. After a lot of debate....(Am I doing the right/wrong thing? What if he is from a puppy mill? Is he sick?)...I took him home. The guilt was unbearable. I just felt so badly for supporting a pet store. I told myself I knew better. Then I decided to do my own research. I found his breeder. I emailed her immediately. And she put all my fears to rest. It is true that she is from the midwest, but she is NOT a puppy mill. She sent me pictures of my pup's mom and dad, as well as pictures of his grandparents. She told me all about his litter, what he was like as a puppy, etc. She let me ask a million questions about her dogs as well as her human family. In the end, I got everything I would have gotten had I gone through a breeder.

On that note, it's just as dangerous to go through a breeder over the Internet. For some reason, people think it's more reputable to purchase a puppy online because they are from a "breeder," not a pet store. Just because they call themselves a breeder does not make them safe, reputable, honest, etc.

Even though I felt better about my pup's background, I was still skeptical of taking him to the vet the pet store is affiliated with, so I took him to a vet who specializes in bulldogs. Without telling him where I got him, the vet complemented my pup's great build and health. He did have a very common and easily treatable parasite, but the vet assured me it's something ALL puppies are prone to, not just pet store pups. Overall, the vet said he was a happy, healthy puppy.

I've now met about 8 people (coworkers, friends, and neighbors) who have dogs from Parrots and Pups. Not one of us has had a bad experience.

So in the end, would I recommend Parrots and Pups? Yes. Am I a pet store advocate? No. You have to trust your gut. You should do your research. You should know the breed you are buying. You should know what to expect in terms of health. You are just as responsible as the pet store the minute you walk outside with your puppy. It's up to you to provide your puppy with a good life.

Don't just stereotype this pet store. It's been in business for a long time for a reason.

Just have to say that I purchased a dog there that they told me was one breed and it turned out to be another breed. Plus the fact that the dog had not been socialized with other dogs. I don't think they take them out of their cages unless someone is interested in looking at them. I wonder if they ever get excersized

I bought my puppy, a Yorkie, 2 months ago at P&P. She was then 6 months of age, old by puppy standards. That may be why she was so cheap- $600. Yorkies typically run $1200-1700 at P&P- pretty pricey.

The staff at P&P was very helpful, and really helped us sort things out with getting our first pet, letting us know what was necessary to get that first day, and what could wait till we got home in Brooklyn. They also made sure to follow up on her a few days later, and called us to make sure everything was alright. First vet visit is free.

There were some posts about puppies being unhealthy- you have to examine your puppy first no matter where you buy it. You also have to read up before you buy a dog, and know what kind of health problems to look for. My pup needed to be spayed and needed some dental work done, which was not cheap, $1100, but other than that, she's great, and there have been no problems. She's an amazing puppy, and very loyal to us.

We went back yesterday to P&P with our puppy to visit, and she was obviously well treated when she was there. Our pup remembered everyone, ran up to the staff members enthusiastically, with her tail wagging- she was so happy!!!

I bought my wire haired dauschund Bella at Parrots and Pups over one year ago. I was not planning on getting a puppy, but Bella's loving look and more importantly, the wonderful staff at Parrots and Pups made it a no brainer decision. The owners Holly and David, David'sson Leo, Josh, Marco, Juan etc....have become like family to Bella and I. I truly trust them with Bella's life and wellfare on a daily basis. They have never disappointed me in any way and their love and concern for all animals becomes apparent the moment you walk through the door. I not only bought Bella there, but purchase all of her necessities at Parrots and Pups. Most importantly, I take Bella there for daycare every Monday through Friday and occassionally board her over night during rare occasions. They treat her like their own, feed her, bathe her, groom her, walk her, play with her and give her unconditional love. Please please please!!! If you are planning on purchasing a pet, you must do so at Parrots and Pups. No need for any worry EVER. They will even give you their personal cell phone numbers for emergencies during the night. I look forward to dropping Bella off every weekday morning and seeing Marco's smiling face and knowing how much she loves going and how safe she will be. I truly value Parrots and Pups and getting Bella and their love for her has changed my life.

The Parrots and Pups team are more caring than most veterinarians and will help you with every little thing that can possibly come up. We have two healthy happy yorkies that are the light of our lives. Vet visits show that they are in perfect health. Our dogs even get excited to go back there when we make a trip for supplies. Though I know that there are bad and dishonest pet stores out there, this IS NOT ONE OF THEM. All I can say to you is take the time to do your research before you take an animal into your life. There are dishonest breeders and animal shelters out there too. I would highly recommend this pet store to anyone who is considering purchasing a pet or just needs pet supplies.

When my mom decided it was time for our family to get a dog, someone recommended Parrots and pups as the place to go for a long haired chihuahua. They were beyond right! My family got our dog Figaro in 2003 and he has become a part of our family, he is literally my parents 4th child. we love the friendly service we got from Holly the owner, who is a genuine person and taught us thoroughly how to care for Figaro. A few years later I decided to get a Yorkie and I still got the same fantastic service from the whole crew...I would leave the dog there whenever I went away and she was so well taken care of. Parrots and Pups also has a great selection of treats and toys- most importantly I found both dogs to be clean, well natured, friendly, and healthy! I highly recommend this shop to anyone who is looking to purchase a puppy.

I bought my Havanese from here over three years ago. She is still healthy and happy and adorable. The first night I took her home she developed a cough. I called the owner Hollly at her home at midnight, and she said to bring her in the next morning. The kept her for a day with a humidifier and gave her some medicine, for no charge. When I picked her up she was fine and has been great ever since. Some of the staff there are great, not pushy at all and very knowledgable. Some of the staff, not so great. It took about 5 or 6 weeks to get the papers for my dog. But overall my experience with them was very good. I know buying from pet stores is risky and I admit I fell in love with my puppy'scute face, and bought her without researching the store's breeders or background. But some of the reviews seemed like they were from people who had never even been there, so I thought I would write a truthful experience. But Yes I Know, buying from a breeder is much better.

I have heard countless stories of people who had their hearts broken by this place. You keep hearing about the problems with the papers and the sick puppies and the puppies who turn out to come from other countries at a very young age. The puppies either come from backyard breeders who are just in it for the money or puppymills. Sure, the pups are cute, but come one. An educated consumer does his/her research. A wise person learns from their mistakes and moves on. I know people who have had very bad experiences here and who have suffered both financially (from high vet bills) and emotionally (from watching their poor pup suffer.
Shame on the people who lie about where the puppies come from. Anyone who knows anything about dogs knows this: NO REPUTABLE BREEDER EVER SELLS TO A PET SHOP. Just does not happen. Never
does. Sadly, I wonder if places like this will ever go away. As long as uneducated consumers and impuilse buyers exist, these places will. the workers in these places are trained to say, "Oh, no! These puppies all come from breeders we know and work with. No puppy mills." And that and a cute puppy's face make the sale.

This store is great, yes tiny and cramped...but it;'s Manhattan..I knwo both owners and bought my parrot when they first opened..even tho 10 years later-=-Holly still remebers his name and my other--board them there--and tehy are always treated with love.

Sham eon all you people who make blanket statements about dog stores--who cares where tehy came from??? They deserve a home too...And both owers are very caring, know their busines...Holly pracically lives there..and will go out of her way to help you whether you spend $5 on a toy or over a grand on a prrot or pup.

My friend who has always bought his pets from a breeder, or shelter, made the mistake of falling in love with a puppy, when he went into Parrots & Pups. He was told that the dog was from a breeder in Hungary, and that it was up to date with all of it's shots. After having the puppy for about a day, it started to look sick.
My friend called Parrots & Pups, which told him to bring the dog back so they could"monitor" it for 4 days. My friend thought that was extremely weird, and called his personal vet.
Come to find out, the puppy has a upper respiratory infection, mucus dripping constantly from it's nose, a cough that sounds like it is drowning in it's own saliva.... and this has only been a week and a half since he got her! The personal vet has the puppy on multiple medications, which seem to not be helping it, and the next step is further tests, more money, and more heartbreak.
What was supposed to be a joyful addition to the family, has now become, a painful, sad and VERY expensive journey- and it has only been less then two weeks. The outcome of the puppy is still unsure. He has to take it to the vet again, to do further testing to see why this little puppy is not getting healthier.

We all get that warm, and fuzzy feeling seeing a puppy in a store...but would you get the same warm and fuzzy feeling watching a puppy that is to young being ripped away from it's mother in a wooden box somewhere in Europe, then being labeled as "cargo" and stuck under a plane for 15- 18 hours with no food, or water, laying in it's own fecies freezing, just to become some sick pet store owners "inventory"?

PLEASE do NOT buy a pet at this store!!!! DO NOT fool yourself thinking you will get a puppy from a prestige breeder in middle america with a white picket fence, and an AKC award.
Please save yourself the heartache of watching a innocent puppy suffer.

Pros: NOTHING

Cons: UNHEALTHY ANIMALS, AND HEARTLESS LYING STAFF

Bought an adorable puppy here 4 months ago. The owners swore that she was from a selective breeder in Florida, and not a puppy mill. Our little girl is now 10 months old and cannot enjoy walks or playtime, as she has been diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia and bilateral elbow dysplasia. If we do not put her through 4 surgeries, totaling up to $20,000, she will become crippled. No selective breeder would allow such genetic defects to be passed down into their litters. For the past few weeks we have been calling Parrots & Pups for information on our puppy's "breeder". Parrots and Pups is avoiding handing out the information, claiming they misplaced it, and claims the "breeders/pupymills" number is off the hook. These people are scam artists. Please if you care about the health of your puppy, do not make the mistake I did and buy a puppy at Parrots & Pups. It will only support the puppy mill industry and break your heart.

I know many people who have purchased puppies from this place who are not happy. Why? Several of them discovered that the puppies they bought were younger than they were told. Some of these puppies were imported from Russia and Hungary and they were too young to be shipped such a great distance and far too young to be taken from their mother. None of the people In know got the amazing treatment that some of the posters here mention.
These puppies may be cute , but they come from puppymills or other people who are just out to make some money. You are exposing yourself to high medical bills (it might take years and years for your dog's medical problems to surface too) . And you are supporting the puppymill industry. Do you really want to do that?
No one who is really informed and knowledgeable buys from a pet shop. It is a mistake that people who do not know much about dogs make or people who refuse to see the truth. Papers mean NOTHING. Puppymills can get papers easily.
I know many angry people who wish they had gone elsewhere for their puppy. Do not become one of them.
You may luck out, but you may not.

I bought a chihuahua from them about 2 years ago. I had asked around and it seemed that everyone who had an adorable dog with a great disposition had gotten the dog from Parrots and Pups. My experience was the same-I got an amazing dog. Where they really stand out is in the follow up care though. With a new puppy there are always a few mishaps-usually when they eat things not meant to be eaten. Each time I have called them I was told to come in (once at 8am on a sunday morning!) and that they would look at my dog and take appropriate steps. This has happened a total of 3 times, and each time they have kept her for a few hours and returned her to me on the road to recovery. All without charging me! And they are so affectionate with the dogs, sometimes I will come in to pick up my dog (yes, they have watched her for the day at a very reasonable rate) to find one of the employees kissing and cuddling the puppies. I have had dogs all my life, both bought and rescued. If you are going to buy, there is no better place than Parrots and Pups.

Pros: Adorable, healthy puppies in a loving environment, great service and follow up care

Cons: can get crowded, best to shop during the week

Don't do it. You are contributing to the torture of many many dogs by funding this business. Don't be selfish. The puppies are cute and sweet but they come from places that are horrifying and the only thing keeping them in business in the people that spend money there. To the people that read the posts and went anyway.....

Shame on you. Ignorance and laziness. "You don't know until you try" what sort of stupid remark is that?
Try? Did you try going to the mill where the puppy came from? And everything was ok? Moron. Your puppy came from a dog that's never run on grass or doesn't have a name and is never given affection. That's ok because you got the puppy. This makes me want to strangle you.

I got an AKC registered Yorkshire Terrier puppy from this place over 7 months ago and their follow-up care has been nothing short of wonderful. I called them several times over the first few weeks when I was unsure if she was eating enough etc., and I've brought her in a couple of times over the months when she caught a cold and recently when she had a bad reaction to a shot. Each time they took care of her for a couple of hours and gave me great home remedy advice that worked great - each time without charging me a cent.
After I got my puppy, many people poo-pooed me for having gotten her from a "pet store". But from my personal experience with them (which I don't think some of those posting "reviews" here can say), I don't think it's fair to lump them all into the same "bad" category. The owners, who have been there for me each time, seem to genuinely love animals and I do not get the sense that they are just in it for the buck. I have a very happy, healthy, beautiful puppy that I got from them and I couldn't be happier.

Pros: They have excellent follow-up care, especially for a semi-neurotic first-time puppy owner

Cons: I think you get what you pay for, so they are not cheap.

I have never lived without a dog. Several members of my family are vets. I know several breeders. I know a lot about dogs. One thing that I have never heard anyone who knows a lot about dogs say is this:
Buy a dog from a pet shop. Do you think the pet shop workers are going to say that there dogs do not come from good places? They are used to that question. And, honestly, maybe some of the workers even THINK that the dogs they sell come from breeders. Simply googling a "breeder" may not tell you the whole story. Plenty of scam artists have wonderful web sites. A lot of them even put up photos of dogs they did not even breed.
I know so many people who have been burnt by pet shop pups. And that "lemon law" does really help you. Are you really going to hand over the dog you love to an uncertain fate just cause the law says you can?
Of course the workers in the shop are going to be nice. Of course some of them are probably very nice and they care about animals. But talk to some of the ones who had to stop working there once they realized what kind of business they were really in.
If you buy a dog from a pet shop, then you are putting money back into the hands of people who keep the puppymill industry going. Ignorance keeps these places in business. That and cute puppies. It is an old and sad story. If you want a dog of a certain breed, you can find one. People do it all of the time. The "I didn't want to be on some waiting list or have some breeder ask me questions about my life" excuses are all pretty lame. Some people wait even longer to find the right shoes.
FACT: If you want to be responsible, find a good breeder. Go to a dog show or check out Petfinder or one of the rescue places. Yeah, some breeders can be weird. Some are better with dogs than with people. But you are living with the dog not the breeder. Yeah, some rescue people are a little fanatical. But you can deal with it for a short time to get a dog the right way.

Pros: anyone with a credit card and the impulse can buy a dog in ten seconds

Cons: Not the right place to get a dog. Not the way anyone in the know would ever go

I bought an Italian Greyhound from them and I couldn't be happier. The sales person, Josh, answered all of my questions about the breed accurately. I took the dog to the vet they recomended in Chelsea and the dog is perfectly healthy. Josh even followed up with a phone call to see how she was doing a few days after the purchase.

My mother, an animal activist, has had several dogs over the years so I was aware/weary of the puppy mill thing but they assured me this dog was from a 'real' breeder and she was. I Googled her the second I got home and was able to find plenty of info about the breeder.

I would totally recommend this shop.

It is not about hating anyone. It is simply about the truth. Pet shop dogs come from puppymills or backyard breeders . It is all about profit. Not health. Not temperament. Just money.
The poster who wrote that a breeder would not help you with a sick dog is just WRONG. A reputable breeder (not some backyard breeder who buys two purebreeds and throws them together in a room to mate) gives you advice or will take the dog back. They care about the dogs that they have breed.
Buying a yorkie or any dog from a pet shop is reckless and foolish and you are only helping to keep the puppymill trade going. Sure, your dog is cute and sure he is sweet and great. But his parents are probably living in a filthy cage somewhere out West being bred to death. Or some backyard breeder who knows how tobreed cute dogs is making a great living. Cute does not always mean healthy.
If you do a little research on your dog's "breeder" I am willing to bet a million dollars that he comes from some place in the midwest or maybe PA. you will find that this "breeder" also breeds many different types of dogs (a major clue).
I love dogs. I have a soft spot for a cute dog as much as the next person. I do not wish any honest business person any ill will. I have no agenda here. But I hate to see this kind of misinformation posted. Ask any person who really knows about dogs. Anyone with any real knowledge of dogs will tell you the truth.
It breaks my heart to see the photos and stories about the puppymills. I hate meeting yet another person who has spent thousands of dollars on their beloved little dog who came from a pet shop. I know several people who have lost their dogs as puppies. They purchased their dogs from pet shops and the poor little things were sick and they did not survive. These little pups are shipping a long way to NY and they are often too young to be taken from their mothers. Poor little creatures. I wish everyone well and good luck.

My friend bought her yorkie from Parrots & Pups & had a wonderful experience. Soon after, I found myself taking the trip with her to the store to buy a yorkie of my own, a sweet little boy. Right away, I was assured that if I needed any help or advice, I could call one of the owners or managers 24 hours a day on their cell phones which were given to me. I needed their help within a week when I went to Dr. Silvers at Lexington Veterinary Group who gave my less than 2 pound yorkie the kennel cough vaccine way too early for the dog to handle it. NEVER GO TO DR SILVERS. He also misdiagnosed my friend's golden retriever who had epilepsy TWO times before another doctor diagnosed it. Anyway- when my dog became sick from the vaccine, I called Leo, the manager of Parrots and Pups, at 2 am, and he talked me through exactly what to do. The next morning at 7am, I brought my dog to the pet store, where they took him & nursed him back to health for over a week at NO CHARGE. If you get a dog from a breeder, or from the internet, there are no guarantees that they will help you should the dog get sick & this would lead to thousands of dollars spent at a vets office. In addition, before anyone on here knocks Parrots and Pups- why don't you contact the amazing vets office they use for their puppies and that they recommend you use... HEART OF CHELSEA, one of the best vet offices in the city. Instead of viewing P&P as a terrible place that feeds the puppy mill industry, do some important research. Go in there, talk to the staff, express your concerns to them, and once you see what a wonderful store it is, you may end up with a puppy ( or even 2 like I did !!!) and you will be happy and reassured that they will take good care of the both of you. Since I have bought my 2 little yorkies, I have referred P&P to many of my friends. They price their puppies fairly, not like on the UES where the yorkies are 4,000. The bottom line is, my experience was great and I greatly recommend P&P!!!

Despite claims that our dog had come from "a farm where all the dogs lived in a cozy kennel with fresh hay" or something to that effect, I traced the paperwork for our little terrier to a horrific backyard breeder in Missouri. You can plug your dog's Parrot's and Pups numbers into an online database and find out where exactly these poor dogs came from. I really regret buying our dog like this - I now know a lot more about where this pet shop (and all pet shops, really) get their animals. Our dog was very ill when she came home and Parrots and Pups - despite a guarantee that medical coverage was part of the deal - would only pay for her go to their vet who I don't know from Adam. On another related point, Parrots and Pups also accepted $650 in cash from a colleague of mine when he offered that amount instead of the $900 or so on the dog's cage. The money was accepted in a bar down the street (my friend said "I'm going to be in the bar and if you're interested in selling for $650, I'll be there for an hour") Sure enough, the owner came over and took the money. Not a crime, surely, but not above board, either. Dogs (English bulldogs with notoriously poor legs) languish in their cages here and require surgery to put them back together.

Bottom line - this pet shop is not telling the truth when they assure you where your pet came from. Do your homework. Then go to the Manhattan ACC which is full of small purebreed dogs that cost $80 and lower including spay/neuter and shots

Seriously, you do NOT want to buy a puppy from this place. This is, without a doubt, a place that buys from puppy mills. Think of yourself as a true animal lover:? Then, you do not want to help keep the puppy mill cylcle going. Do NOT buy a dog from this place. Go to a breeder. Do your research. Go to a shelter.
Go any place but this. Seriously.
No reputable breeder would ever sell to a pet shop. EVER. You might wind up with a sick puppy. You will pay more than you ever would for a dog from a decent breeder.
Save yourself a lot of heartache.

Cons: Puppy mill pups. Not the place to go at all.

After trying to adopt for over 2 years I got fed up and looked into breeders. After not having much luck - with deals falling through, finding out they were mills, or receiving general harassment I caved and just went to the store. I looked up where the dogs came from. They actually were from real breeders with sites describing their show dogs. The paperwork did take some time to come in but when it did I had no trouble registering them with the AKC. They were both healthy, from 2 different litters and perfect examples of the breed standard. Its been over a year now and the largest vet bill I had was when I had them spayed. There are no signs of any genetic diseases - which can be a major issue with yorkies.
The staff seemed to be pretty well educated when I was there.
The also seem to rotate the dogs between the crates and the play pen in the window.

I purchased a purebred Pomeranian from Parrots & Pups about a week ago even after reading reviews because you have to find out for yourself. There are lots of people out there that don't trust pet shops becasue they have heard of "puppy mills' but they all can't be that bad...I read the reviews for Parrots & Pups and despite the negative reviews, I tried them because I feel in love with mi little Lola. I'm botgiving rave reviews all I'm saying is don't believe everything that you read. TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. Lola is lovely and she's already had her first vet visit at Hearts of Chelsea which is one of the two that you can chose from when you purchase your pup. She's doing quite well and she's completely vaccinated.

This place sells puppy mill pups and imported puppies. That is a fact. I live in the neighborhood and I personally know people who have purchased puppie here who have gotten very sick and, in some cases, they have even died. The "positive posts" are so obviously fake posts from the owners of this place who really should be ashamed of themselves. The tirades about the "morons" or "activists" who bash the place are just sad. Come on! You know you buy your dogs from backyard breeders, puppy mills and puppy mill importers. That is a fact. Like other posters have said--No breeder with any kind of ethics or concern about their pups would ever ever ever sell to a pet shop. Does not happen.
I am writing this--like many of the other responsible people here have done--because I hate to see people get hurt. Sure, you might get lucky and end up with a pup with minimal health issues. But you might not. And I love dogs too much to see that happen.
Please--use your common sense here--and find a decent breeder. Go to the AKC site for recommendations . Please.

Pros: none at all.

Cons: puppy mill pups who may have serious health issues sooner than later

I had purchased a blakc and white frenchie about 3 years ago.. he only lasted untill he was 8 months old but that was not because of problems he had from being sick, or any problems that were in the present. I think that the people that are writing reviews on here bad mouthing parrots and pups are a bunch of jerks because i just had purchased another frenchie (beige) today. Gorgeous pup, lovable, playful, and the minute i set eyes on him i had to buy him. In other words this store is all about selling the right pups. There is no doubt in my mind that they are selling fraud dogs this and that problems with the dogs at all!. And also i have a relative who has a 5 year old frenchie bought from the same place and has no problems what so ever except allergies! Hahahaha which is a joke...But, really people who keep bad mouthing p&p really need to get a life and stop!. So, anyone who reads this enjoy your look at parrots and pups because its worth it!!!

I am appalled at the twits writing bad things about this wonderful store. My puppy got a cold 1 week after I bought it and I called them at 1:00 in the morning and sure enough one of the owners answered the phone and helped me. The staff is nothing but nice . The stupid moran who wrote that he got a dog from Russia is obviously a "plant" because I have a Frenchie also and none of their puppies come from Russia. I think these morans who write bad thing should have to prove their claims instead of being able to try and hurt people. Why don't they put their phone numbers or emails so peple can answer them directly instead of hiding behind citysearch. Just a normal person reading these can see thru the jerks writing them. I see many people in the morning walking dogs and many of them purchased them at P&P and are all satisfied.I went to them for this reason. I m taking time out to write this because I know that the negative reviews written here are probably from the competion or just plain evil people who are activists or have nothing better to do. Go in and see for yourselves just how good they are.

Pros: good parking, ambiance, and just a beautiful store.

Cons: not any I can think of

I have heard countless stories of heartache from people who have purchased puppies from this place. Sure, there are people who get lucky. But, seriously, no reputable breeder would ever ever sell to a pet store. That is a fact. Plain and simple. No breeder who is working hard to breed the best possible example of their breed is going to then ship the little puppies off to a petstore where they can be sold to anyone who walks in with a credit card. Come on! A good breeder wants to know where their pups are going to live and to ensure that they have a safe and great home. I have no agenda here but to save someone from making a big mistake . I know of several people who have endured HUGE VET bills and had to watch their pup suffer . In a few cases that I know of, the pup even died. Please, please, please, do yourself a HUGE FAVOR and resist the temptation and find a reputable breeder. Do not support the puppy mill industry.

Horror stories abound about this place! Tons and tons of import puppies from hungary and russia are sold here. These poor little creatures are shipped here ffrom these other countries when they are way too young to be separated from their mothers. This leads to all kinds of problems!
this pet store, like all others, is merely a front for a puppy mill. Please do not make a mistake and buy from this place. You will pay way too much. Then, you will pay way more at the vet's when your puppy comes down with all sorts of problems.

I recently brought my girl here to buy her a new puppy for her birthday. As soon as we walked in the door, we observed the cutest little puppies ever. My girl is obsessed with Yorkies and we did some research and found out that this place specialized in Toy Breeds including Yorkies. My girl walked in the door and we werent even there 30 seconds before she fell in love and pointed out the dog she "had to have". A really sweet lady named Holly helped us out and let us hold and play with him before we actually bought him. My girl didnt even want to play with any others, it was love at first sight. This place was awesome, not only were they helpful, Holly gave us her personal phone numbers so we could contact her with any questions or concerns we might have in the future. How many places do that these days? And this place doesnt only have puppies, they have everything you will ever need too. We also got a little puppy bed, leash, toys, food, and sweater here. My girl is going back in a few days to get one of those travel things that Paris Hilton has so she can bring Max, the dog, on our trip to Florida in a few weeks. I would definately reccommend this place to anyone looking to buy a puppy. They even gave us a free vet consultation so we could ensure that our puppy was healthy in every way.

DO NOT BUY PUPPIES HERE. This store buys dogs from irresponsible "breeders". We bought a Chihuahua puppy from this store last summer. Rosie is a sweet dog but has a genetic disease that the breeder/store (Parrots & Pups) would be well aware of. Our dog Rosie was diagnosed with "CANINE HIP DYSPLASIA" at less than a year old. This is a genetic disease that the breeder would be aware of. Parrots& Pups carefully states in their paperwork that they do not cover any genetic diseases nor are they responsible. They also tell you they do not buy from puppy mills. However, puppy mills are basically irresponsible breeders. Rosie was from a puppy mill in MO.
They even supplied us with a pedigree wich clearly states that she was IN-BRED!!!

her hip dysplasia is so advanced that, that at only a year old, rosie only has full use of only three of her four legs and is forced to hobble around on three legs. Not only has this disease effected her physically but, psychologically as well. before the onset of the disease, she was an energetic and inquisitive pup that was always on the run and happily playing. since she has more developed such drastic symptoms, she is far less mobile and has become shy and fearful due to her lack of mobility. it is truly heartbreaking and outrageous to see such a young dog be so afflicted by what should be a controllable and closely monitored disease. the breeders used by parrots & pups should be fully aware of the physical condition and medical history of the the dogs they are breeding. it is grossly negligent and utterly staggering that these breeders continue to operate in such an unethical manner by raising geneticallly defective dogs.

please contact me if you have a similar experience from this breeder:

good luck.

It's difficult for me to understand these bad reviews.
That's why I'll give you my experience with this place. I've walked in with my sister for the past 6 months & we'd talk with the customers that were getting their puppies or customers that came back with friends to check out this place. And they all spoke highly of this place.
Every time we were there, the staff was respectful. That's why I finally got my puggle this week. They
give me their cell and private home phone numbers to call anytime, & they followed up with a call to see how I was getting along with my sweet chanel puppy, now this truly impressed me. Their puppies
are treated well and are given all the proper care. Like I said, the past 6 months the staff was very respectful to us seniors. I was taken by their kindness allowing us to nag them with questions.
And most of all they don't take your money and say "good bye & good luck", they care about their
puppies & customers, that's why they follow up with phone calls to you.
Perhaps, all these bad reviews are coming from competitors.
Walk in and see for yourself, how wonderful the staff is and how all the customers are treated
whether they buy or just want to play with the puppies.
With the loss of my husband this year I found real comfort in this place. And I'll end this review with a
personal thank you to Parrots and Pups for running a good business.

I can't speak for the others who had bad experiences here, but I'm neither an animal activist nor an idiot as one reviewer suggested. In fact, I've never written a review of anything before, but I had a really bad experience with this pet store and think the people there are just plain awful. And to make it worse, since buying my dog, I've heard other horror stories from people in the neighborhood who had a whole range of problems with this place. I love my dog and always will but they just don't treat animals or people right.

I purchased my wheaten terrier here and fell in love with her immediately. However, I recently submitted her paper work to check her ancestry and found that she is from a puppy mill. Nothing will change my love of my dog but beware of purchasing from pet stores. Please do your research before purchasing your new family member.

I read the other 2 reviews of this shop and find them probably to be written by some animal activist or some complete idiot. I too bought a havanese puppy which is the love of my life and very beautiful. My puppy came from Hungary also and I have since registered with the AKC. I had to have a DNA test done which was provided by AKC and was assisted very competently by the owner of the shop. Everytime I called I got somebody and also they gave me home numbers and cell numbers for nite in case of an emergency which I understand they give to everybody. The shop is very clean and all of the puppies look to be very healthy and happy. The staff is incredibly helpful and I would recommend this place to everyone. Go in and see for yourself and I am sure you will agree with me and not the others. I got my papers in 27 days and had no problem at all. Would be very happy to speak to anybody about my wonderful experience. Was very surprised to read the other 2 reviews. Hope they love their puppy as much as I love mine.

I know 3 people that bought havanese dogs from this place. Their imported puppymilled Hungary version of a Havanese is of VERY low standard in some cases hardly even resembling the breed.
You will NOT be able to register you so can purebreed pup with the AKC, and you WILL pay over what the AKC breeders offer. DON'T BUY HERE!! If you know someone that wants to buy a Havanese recommend a breeder not a store!!

I bought a Frenchie here a few years ago and was told that since she was newly arrived from Russia, they would first have to register her and then send me her official purebreed paperwork. After not hearing for more than a month, I called. I was told the owner would have to call me back. Nothing. I called again a couple weeks later. Same response. I ended up leaving about ten messages, never once receiving a return call. One man snippily told me that they'd sent me the documents already and I'd just have to wait. He clearly lied My dog is now four and I've never received anything. As soon as these people had my money they turned immediately rude and downright irresponsible. It was the worst customer-service experience I've ever had anywhere.
