3 Stars: Service = great Server = great Food= good BUT Guy at the door = please. (by Lisa B.)

My husband and I went to Becco for my birthday -- upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly coat check lady. However when we walked into the restaurant we stood within inches of the maitre di for about 5 minutes before he even acknowledged us. Very snooty to say the least. The food was ok-- the service was great. Worth the visit but don't be on the skinny guy at the door being friendly.

5 Stars: amazing pasta and wine!!!! (by sadienyc25)

my husband and i went here on our first date in nyc 6yrs ago and have been back many time since. the shrimp and spicey tomato app is my favorite of all time. the pasta special is terrific and is what i usually order. the wine list is to die for---so many choices--helpful staff--and reasonably priced. i bring all out of town guests here for a wonderful meal i know they will enjoy. have never had a bad meal or experience at becco. highly rec!!! i cannot wait to go back.

2 Stars: HORRIBLY NOISY AND CRAMPED (by aaw926)

Yes, the food at Becco is very good indeed and the service attentive....but how can you enjoy yourself when you cannot hear anything people at your own table are saying? The place was incredibly noisy...the tables so crowded together in the atrium room that the waitstaff was on top of all of us as they served the nearby tables.....a noisy table for 4 next to us when we got there became a noisier, even more crowded table for 6 after the first party left.....unbelievably noisy and cramped...and I will never, ever go back,

5 Stars: Rustic Italian At Its Best (by mm550366)

I've had many meals at this charming Italian gem in the theater distric and they've all been wonderful. The waiters create an almost show-like atmosphere with their never ending pans of pasta floating through the dining room like italian angels making sure that your plate is never empty
the vegetable plate is great fileld with mushrooms, and garlic mashed potatoes
this is a great place to go with a crowd and before you leave i must insiste that you have a glass of Moscato D'Asti the flavored liquer has the perfect about of dry bubbly texture with the added sweetness of pear

1 Stars: Good food but horrible experience (by rtrim1)

My family took me there to celebrate my birthday and while our waiter was pleasant and did a wonderful job serving, the lack of customer service and poor management was astounding. An accident happened at our table by the staff and instead of coming over to help, the manager snickered in the background and refused to help. When we called him over to talk about the situation he was extremely rude and told us that it's against policy to provide any kind of compensation to customers. My mother had to attend a play that night with a destroyed outfit. We tried to reason with the manager and he responded by cursing and creating a scene in the restaurant. Having lived in NY my entire life and worked in the service industry, I was appalled by their lack of service and horrible attitudes. We were told that the only way we would be compensated would be if we came back and spent money on another dinner and maybe we would get free desserts. I would never recommened this restaurant. There are many other delicious Italian restaurants in NYC.

I've been to Becco a few times I can't say anything bad about the place. Every visit has been very pleasant, with great food and wine. Whenever anyone asks me where to go for Italian food in the Theater District I always recommend Becco!

4 Stars: One of my favorites! (by Christina N.)

This is one of my favorite restaurants to eat in the theater district. The pre-fixe pasta special always offers an unlimited selection of three unique pastas and sauces. The Osso Bucco is also delicious. The wine list is fairly extensive and reasonably priced. Seating is tight, reservations are a must, and staff is quick, as they know they need to get you to your Broadway show on time!

Incredible!!! Back for the 3rd time in 2 years. Brought a couple of friends from the UK and my wife. We had a vegan, a meat eater, a fish eater, and pork eater. All were in heaven. The staff were extremely attentive and especially to the vegan orders. The sparkling rose wine was the cap to one of the best meals we've have ever had. Plan on returning again and again.

5 Stars: Great girls night out restaurant (by beccy2559)

My best friend and I had dinner at Becco on a busy Saturday night. Our server asked if we were going to a show and made sure our food came out quickly and brought the bill with dessert. The atmosphere was very nice, the cocktails were good, the service was prompt and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the pasta special dinner since we were having a hard time deciding. The antipasto was extremely fresh and the pasta was so good we didn't want to stop eating. If we hadn't been going to a show we would have lingered for more cocktails. I would highly recommend Becco to anyone.

4 Stars: Family Style Italian (by Joann S.)

This Italian restaurant is famous for its two-course all-you-can-eat dinner for $21.95, featuring an appetizer and a choice of pasta dishes. It does not hurt that its location is convenient to most Broadway theaters. The food is simple and full of flavor, and excellent prices.

5 Stars: keep it coming! (by imthirsty)

I went there with my family during the holidays and had a blast. The wait staff was very friendly and warm. The place was lit just right. And the never-ending pasta was delicious! I think it changes nightly or so but among the three pastas was a pumpkin ravioli that was perfectly delicious. To top it off, Lidia herself was there and taking pictures with everyone, welcoming everyone, going from table-to-table to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. This is definitely the place to go if you're in the theatre district (where I'm wary of all restaurants)!

4 Stars: Spontaneous decision pays off well (by radamady)

I showed up in classic date gear; she had underdressed to the point of embarrasment. But despite my constant haranguing her, we both felt comfortable at Becco. The ambience was a bit noisy, but the decor and lighting were romantic. Besides, whispering angrily is more convenient when people at other tables are laughing. We ordered the pasta special and were deftly rewarded. The roasted vegetables seemed to "pop" with freshness; not at all boring as I had thought. The seafood accompaniment swam in my mouth. The 3 pastas of the day were equally as surprising and inventive. Never again will I poo-poo a pumpkin-based seasonal pasta...as long as its from Becco. I'm a bit demanding, and after a decade of restaurant experience, a bit of a cynic. But I cannot wait to go back to Becco. You'll recognize me as the bearded curmudgeon making my dinner date miserable, while enjoying the freshness and creativity of the chef.

5 Stars: We'll be back to Becco (by vennnus)

My husband and I went to Becco last night on the recommendation of many friends and we loved it! The food was fantastic and we had a lovely dining experience. Instead of having the endless pasta, which seemed a little too glutonous, we ordered the swordfish and angus steaks. The portions were huge, the food was simple and flavorful, and the wine selections were great. The only slight flaw was that the place was so busy that the waiter couldn't get to us quite as often as we would have liked. Expect to spend about $100 a couple, but walk away thoroughly full and satisfied.

To start the night off i had to go to the bathroom while i was waiting to be seated...i had just had wings earlier in the day, and starbucks, so you know what was about to happend to me. As i go to the bathroom, i sit down and let that stuff go....i mean it was a flow of unnatural forces, picture this, two sun baked pounds of cheese, one old hot dog, and my ex-girlfriend all rolled into my body. came out, then after the el-nino passed i went to finish and no toilet paper....man what a bummer. food was great though.

5 Stars: A Great Experience!! (by westerner)

Our first time in NYC from Wyoming and we selected Becco based on Citysearch information and reviews. Our reservations were made, in advance via phone, for a Thursday evening of Easter weekend at 7:30. The place was packed and when we entered they acted like they were expecting us and that we were longtime friends. We were seated immediately and treated like royalty throughout the evening. The wine selection is so large that if you can't find something you like then you're simply being too fussy. An entire listing of wines for $20 per bottle displays some great buys. Our waiter, Marco, was helpful, courteous, and pure fun. The Maitre D, Nathan, couldn't have been more pleasant. The three of us all had the pasta (I know, boring, but we love pasta) and it was truly wonderful. Throughout the evening we kept hearing, "Please, take your time." The evening was a wonderful experience, the food was terrific, hospitality couldn't have been better, and we absolutely loved it. Would I go back? Are you kidding.....I simply can't wait. Thousands of restaurants in NYC and when I do go back, this is the first one that I'll visit. It was a terrific meal on a wonderful night in a great place. I can't recommend it highly enough. Just plan ahead, be sure you have reservations, and don't show up late. You won't be sorry.

5 Stars: mngordo (by mngord)

Dined at Becco's about 8 times or so during the past 2 years. The food is wonderful. Some outstanding choices are the Osso Buco, the rack-of-lamb, fish dishes like striped bass. You can trust the chefs. The meatball appetizer is excellent as well. We usually get the Sampler for dessert, and enjoy almost all items included. Every day there is a pasta special (if you're not dieting) for $21 I think, which includes 3 different pastas (all you can eat). The Caesar's salad included with dinners is outstanding.
We've sat upstairs and down and on both sides of the restaurant. Sometimes we get a VERY small table which is annoying and pre-theatre hours are crowded with reservations almost essential. Service is excellent. We usually get there about 5:45 PM for pre-theatre dinner if show is at 8 PM. If anything, the service is a bit too quick. Excellent cocktails, lots of wines ALL at $25 per bottle. Your server's recommendation is usually fine. Very good wine list beyond the $25 dollar per bottle list, if you want something above "adequate". You will be pleased dining at Becco.

5 Stars: wonderful experience (by ccox)

I'd dined at Felidia's on a previous visit to Manhattan, and wasn't so impressed, but I'd vowed to try Lidia's other restaurant, Becco. I had a hunch that I would like it much better, and I was right. The restaurant was very crowded, but since I was dining alone, I sat at the wine bar to have dinner. The bartender was very helpful, and helped me choose a wine to my liking, as well as make dinner recommendations. I had a peppery wine from the Puglia region of Italy, along with the Galleto Al Forno. It was amazing...I couldn't stop gushing to the bartender about how good that oven-roasted chicken breast was.

3 Stars: OK..but not great (by domil23)

Went here with 3 friends the other night..and I can't said it lived up to its reputation. We had a horrible table location despite reservations earlier in the week (right in front of the door when it was 50 degrees out). We ended up trying the pasta special as it's been recommended by so many people, but half of the pasta was uncooked! We had to pick and choose which noodles to eat, trying to avoid chewing raw dough. In the end, it was OK. Probably won't go back for a while, at least not until the memory of this experience is erased. Good wine selection, though (very cheap), and great dessert.

3 Stars: Rip off (by vivian9999)

BEWARE! this place charges 18% tip automatically if you have a party of 6 or more, and on top of that, the tip is on top of the tax, meaning they are really getting you for over 20% tip, and their service is not worth it. They may have all you can eat pasta, but you practically have to beg to get a second round of it. If it's all you can eat, when you are done, shouldn't the waiter come around asking if you want more? not this place, they try to take your plates away. We tried to ask for more, and the waiter looked upset, then he called the guy carrying around the pasta to come back, the guy wandered off and we waited about 15 minutes to be served our second round, none of us dare ask for more. With their dessert sampler, they include ice cream and sorbets, but a tiny scoop of each, even if you have 12 people at the table, meaning 12 people will have to dig their spoons into one tiny ice cream flavor, talk about stingy when they charge like $40 for some "unlimited" pasta and some entrees and dessert. The food tasted good, but the service and price kills it.

4 Stars: DON'T go on a Saturday night (by jtmcconnell)

I go often and recommend Becco's to out of town business associates and friends. Went on a Saturday with out of town tickets and the food was great but the service was awful, even surely. Ordered a $25 glass of wine and it was bad. Told the waiter. A young "host" came out and said it was good, obviously we were wrong. Left it on our bill until we asked. Was told mistake but it felt like "trying to get the tourists!"

5 Stars: Amazing Mothers day experience (by djpc97)

Best meal for the price I have ever had in NYC. We had 8 adults and a three year old for a mothers day lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. I am always disappointed with the service when I am with a large group like this, but this time I was totally impressed with the staffs ability to not only be attentive but also have a smile on while the avoided my 3 year old nephew as he bounced around.

We had the group special! So much food, I am stuffed now just thinking about it. Salad, pasta tri tasting, Steak, Chicken, Swordfish, Potatos etc.......ALL YOU CAN EAT!!!!!!!

2 Stars: Dont do it ! (by georgedevine)

We visited Becco last month . Ok, it's 4:30 PM and we're all waiting outside when the door finally opens . We get escorted through one dining where all the waiters and waitresses are being prepped about the nights menu. Myself along with every other patron were forced to wait in an overcrowded bar while employees carry chairs and such over our heads to prepare for dinner in the next room, shoulder to shoulder we stood there like cattle waiting to be fed. Finally we get seated and our underdressed servers commence running around banging and bumping into us as we sit there waiting to be waited upon. I ordered the all you can eat Pasta , These guys are pros at figuring out what you like and making sure you don't get anymore. service sucks!
I have to admit the bathrooms are very nice and clean.

4 Stars: If the bosses only knew.... (by critic76)

I work in midtown and Becco became our place go to when we wanted to get away from the office and "blow it out" on the corporate card. The meat lasagne is definatly a choice to go with as is the 3 pasta all you can eat option. I do believe the wine menu is fixed at $20 per bottle, so how can you go wrong with that? The service is great especially sinse they always put up with our antics which usually went on for a few hours and the waiters were always quick to refill our wine glasses. Yes, some of the other patrons might have been put off, but then again others enjoyed our enthusiasm and our wit. We always had a great time and showed up back at the office with our stomachs full and our booze levels above legal driving limits.

3 Stars: a mixed bag (by malvarez1969)

we had dinner at becco on a friday night, and were seated in the left bar area, which while pretty crowded, had a manageable noise level. the service was attentive and friendly. we ordered the $22 prix fixe which offers choice of caesar salad or grilled vegetables and seafood sampler, and then all-you-can-eat pasta (3 offerings). the pastas were quite good -- 2 of the 3 were homemade/fresh -- and a decent value. the caesar, however, was ordinary and boring, and the seafood appetizers were mediocre (octopus was fishy and the swordfish bland). if i were to go again, i'd probably just order off the main menu. nothing to write home about.

2 Stars: Treating your customers right (by gphedh)

We just visited Becco restaurant for the second time as I enjoy Lidia's cooking show on TV so much. However, both times we went to the restaurant we had such problems with the seating (with reservations) that it put a damper on our experience. The first time my husband was seated at the top of the stairs practically in front of the bathroom door. The second time we went to Becco, we were brought through the kitchen to our table! This time we were placed at a tiny table right next to the kitchen in the pathway of every waiter/waitress and patron. We were also disappointed in the menu as the only pasta offered were the all you can eat choices of spaghetti and lasagne, not very creative choices. Overall, two very disappointing experiences at a restaurant where I expected to be thoroughly satisfied.

I was soooo upset, We went to restuarant row at about 4:30 no reservations and got a sit immediatly! I was so excited, Great pasta made fresh daily, 3 kinds are brought to you unlimited w/ a starter salad. Pasta changes every day- for only $22 bucks that is your best bet! Great wine selections!! I couldn't choose!!! Must do if your in the theatre area! Restrooms are very clean too.

4 Stars: Worth a Visit (by kipdynamite)

I spotted this ristorante while walking through "Restaurant Row" and became immediately interested since the dinner room was packed. (It's usually a safer bet that the food is good if the restaurant has a full house). Despite the large 8:30 crowd, we were seated immediately in the charming, quiet back room (recommended). The menu offers a price fix that includes antipasta or cesear salad, and all-you-can pasta, but I opted for "Joe's veal chop," a superb, tender, grilled cut of calf. My friend was also delighted with her selection of the organic chicken. For dessert, we tried the sampler that included small portions of sorbert, chocolate mousse, cheesecake, bread pudding, and custard. All were delicious, but the cheesecake stood out of the group as the best. Overall, I recommend this restaurant, but the service could have been more attentive and polite.

2 Stars: trio of pastas a let down (by hbelica)

I was so excited to try Lidia's restaurant - only to find the trio of pastas overcooked and underinspired. The orrechiette dish was so bitter it was inedible. The 4 cheese pasta was cooked to within an inch of its life. The papardelle was decent but dull - chopped tomatoes seemed the only ingredient. I won't go back.

5 Stars: What a wonderful dinner! (by aperez77)

I went to Becco on 10/4/05 with my co-workers. It was a party of 7 and we had a GREAT time. EVERYTHING we ate was absolutely delicious! Since we were a fairly large party, we were recommended the family-style type menu, which included a Ceasar salad, fresh vegetables, unlimited portion of pasta and then steak, chicken and fish (swordfish) as the main entrees. Then for dessert, which was also included in this deal, we had an assortment of all the desserts that are offered. Everything we had was absolutely great. I have been to Becco several times and I have not been disappointed yet. This is definitely a great choice for dinner. The one item I will comment about is the noise. It is usually very loud and sometimes it is a little difficult to hear the waiter, but we just asked him to repeat and we were fine.

5 Stars: What good food and fine dining are all about (by jjgemini)

It's cozy, with a feeling like eating at grandma's house, where everything is warm and the company you keep is half the fun! A price fix pasta special allows for a whirlwind of all you can eat pasta. The wine list is priced at the same reasonable price for every bottle of wine... so that you are selecting a WINE that you like rather than a PRICE you want. Entrees are less expensive than most lesser quality restaurants and the restaurant is swarming with service at just the right moment, with people who love a good time as much as you do. Accomodations are available for those who are heading off to the theatre, as well. So book in advance, enjoy the meal, and the show. And after the show, head back for a nightcap and choose from their extensive list which includes a dozen varieties of grappa! ****

I haven't had the pasta, but the appetizers, salads, and entrees (especially the steak and lamb) are extraordinary. The steak is marinated in a secret concoction of mushrooms and spices and it's one of the best I've ever had. I enjoy having a seat at the bar (where you can order from the full menu) and letting the excellent sommelliers recommend wines with each course. The $25 list of bottles is superb, and everyone there is friendly and professional. If it was a tad less pricey, I'd eat there every week.

I go to the theatre often and with so many restaurants in NYC I like to try a different one each time, however, my companion wanted to eat at Becco again. You can't beat the value of the Pre Fixe and the Under $25 wine list is great! The pasta is always hot and fresh and NEVER soggy. My friend is a vegetarian and one of the pastas featured last time had meat in it so what did the staff do? They brought her a primavera! The staff is most accomadating and always friendly & knowledgeable. They get you in and out without missing the curtain or feeling rushed in any way. Brava Lidia, etal. Tables are smaller than I'd like, but prices are reasonable enough to justify, and it seems there's plenty of demand. We'll go back next time after the theater rush.

3 Stars: Average place in an average land (by mphnyc)

Whether you're off to a show or not, Becco was a very "average" stop. The pirce-fixe wine list is a good idea, but finding something tasty is very difficult and I found myself wishing I would have brought my own bottle and asked for a corkage fee. Tables were too small, as they handles the budtle of the pre-theatre crowd, I found myself having to move thinsg off the table to fit the over-sized plates. They were very consciencious about fixing teh wine problem, and getting us out on time for the show - that we appreciate!

I was there Saturday night and had a fantastic meal and service. Had to wait less than 10 mins. for our reserved table but was given complementary champagne and desserts. Overall, very satisfied and would definately recommend stopping in for dinner.

2 Stars: Too close for comfort (by w34thguy)

This is one of my favorite restaurants for dining. However, I was there this past Saturday night, 2/18/05 and it was one of the increasingly more and more less than pleasant experiences. The tables are so close, the waiters/wait staff/helpers kept bumping in to me constantly trying to get to other tables that were near us. The table itself has little if no space for the appetizers they bring out, and you feel extremely cramped. You are so close to each other, it's like you are invading others privacy. Love the food, but really dislike the cramped feeling.

3 Stars: expensive and noisy (by inwoodreviewer)

The restaurant is so crowded and noisy, and the food is very expensive. It's hard to even walk through the place, you have to shout to be heard, and there are always busboys moving tables and running about with skillets of pasta. You could pay half as much at other places, have better food, and certainly be in a less frazzled environment.

5 Stars: Terrific establishment (by niracomix)

I walked in without reservations on a busy Friday evening and was shown to the back bar where my friend and I got to try different wines for free along with delicious olives and breadsticks. We waited about 15 minutes before being seated in a cozy spot next to the patio doors. The ambience in that room was better since it was darker and quieter, plus great exposed brick walls. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was hot and plentiful, plus we ordered a three pasta special, which we got to share and was divine. We were very sorry that we ate so much that we couldn't try a dessert. Finally, for one glass of wine and an entree per person, we each paid $36.00 including tip.

4 Stars: oonagh - london (by oonagh madden)

I ate in this restaurant twice during my stay in NY . Our evening meal was slightly disapointing. The food itself was fine but we were seated at the back of the restaurant where the tables were too close together, really intrusive on the people either side. I would request a table at the front, much better. Also we ordered a reserve wine and I was slighty annoyed that when they took it away to open it, they did not bring back the bottle to show us, even though I queried this, so it left us in doubt of what wine we were drinking.
When we had lunch on the Tuesday it was less busy and we were seated at the front. The service was great and the food lovely (set 3 pasta menu).
I would definately return either pre-theatre or lunch, not for the whole evening.

Took my girlfriend during a recent weekend in the city. Family members have always raved about Becco so I decided to give it a shot - we were not disappointed. The service was outstanding, they were even accomodating to my girlfriend who is a vegetarian (since she couldn't eat the lobster ravioli that was part of the price fixed meal, they made her a special order of spinach ravioli!). Great selection of wines, delicious food all around, wonderful service, we will certainly be there again!

3 Stars: If you're not a tourist, stay away! (by mbp117x)

Average food, noisy room, high prices... this place has it all! The out-of-towners writing rave reviews obviously have no idea that you can get *excellent* Italian food in NYC for the same price elsewhere, and get very good Italian food for much cheaper somewhere else, too. If you live in NYC, you already knew this. For the toursts: check out the many great places in the East Village or uptown. There's a reason why the locals only eat in midtown for business lunches.

Considering how many expensive restaurants there are in NYC, it is wonderful to find somewhere to enjoy a delicious meal and not go broke. Becco is that place. I went before a show with my girlfriend and the waitstaff is very conscious of your time limitations but they don't rush you out either. The food was absolutely delicious (you must try the osso bucco) and as stated in the previous post, the dessert sampler is one of the best deals for dessert in all of NYC. Highly recommended restaurant row choice. Give it a try!

3 Stars: What's the deal? (by ottolars)

With so many excellent choices for Italian cuisine in the city, it's perplexing that Becco has received such a positive response. As another reviewer stated, it's just a pre-theater fix for tourists. That should tell you all you need to know right there. Everyone who knows NYC well knows that Times Square caters specifically to those who are too starstruck to notice that the food is sub-par at best. Try a different neighborhood for REAL New York food. It's not at ESPN Zone, mind you.

4 Stars: Food I recommend, service I do not (by angela6380)

The service was very uncoordinated. It was as if the waitress and the several men helping her didn't talk because noone knew what the other had done or not done. My friend & I both ordered the pasta pre-fixe and she was given a plate and I was not. She was served and I waited at least 5 minutes before I even got a plate.... There were so many issues, but what could have made up for it was a waitress with a good disposition, not a snarly one. The food was good though and I would return with the hopes of receiving better service. Lydia was there signing cookbooks, it was fun to get a glance of the tv chef.

5 Stars: Romance, Romance (by jwcjdc)

My husband and I found ourselves on an impromptu Wednesday evening stay in the City for business. Friends recommended Becco and being a cooking show fanatic, knew Lidia's place had to be great. Not disapointed! We were treated to a wonderful "taste" of wines at the bar before dinner (yummy breadsticks and fresh olives), the staff trying to find us just the right one. Then dinner at a quiet table in the back room - everything was terrific - my husband had the pasta special, and my veal chop was delicious. Salads were fresh, tasty and the cannollis....well, we couldn't eat them after the meal, but they wrapped them up for us and it was a great late night snack at the hotel and even breakfast the next morning - best ever.

We will be taking friends from out of town there before a show next week - can't wait!

2 Stars: Major Disappointment (by aya_midori)

Love of Lida's TV show lead me to Becco for dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant was crowded and didn't have much elbow room. Waiters had to reach over people to deliver food. The food was sub-par. We ordered a prix fixie (aniti pasto or ceaser salad with 3 types of different pastas) and anitpasto caldo for two. Antipasto was interesting enough; however, pasta was only one step up from Olive Garden. The pasta offered for the night were penne w/ tomato & basil, ling. w/ clam, and cannelloni. Among those, linguni with clam was best tasting; however, it was served with only 2 clams in the begining, and subsequent servings consisted only of pasta, no clam. For the total dinner price of $95, I think that the restaurant should have been better.

Went pre-theatre on Sept 26th. The wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable and appropriately attentive. Never felt rushed. Jeremy, the sommelier, was charming, discerning and most helpful. The food was well prepared (osso bucco was fork tender and delicious) and the three desserts we tried were exquisite, especially the Pannacotta. My wife and I travel to NYC at least 5 times a year and always try different restaurants bur Becco is a keeper and we will go back.

Our pre-theatre party of four was promptly seated and engaged in conversation by a friendly wait staff. The pasta special was delicious and an excellent value for restaurant row. The dining area was a bit of a squeeze, but tight quarters can be fun when everyone around you is obviously having a good time. Giant pans of pasta circulate through the dining area, refilling the plates of those that ordered the three pasta, all you can eat special. Everything is so fresh that you just expect Lidia to walk out of the kitchen with a spoon in her hand.

I cannot rave enough about the food and I just love the idea of a $20 wine list in addition to the regular. Restaurants all over Manhattan should adopt that idea!

Becco saved our night. We had reservations at Barbettas. Made them and had them confirm them the day before. Got there to find Barbetta closed for vacation!!! Becco fit us in and fed us WELL! A very busy place, good food, and great service!!! Save room for dessert, though as they are even better than the pasta.

3 Stars: I Don't Get This Place! (by guyt)

It's just another pre-theatre place and that's all! Like all the other supposed GREAT "Restaurant Row" joints, the food here is "so-so" and the ambience, well, there is none! It's crowded, noisy and frantic! The supposed "deal" is a Prix Fixe that includes a choice of marginal salads and three "all you can eat" pasta specials. Any menu offering/choice beyond that is over-priced and under-quality. If you go, get a downstairs table. At least there, they seem to have painted it recently and it's a lot brighter than the upstairs subway tunnel.

After hearing so many good things and watching Lidia on her T.V. show, we finally got to visit Becco after being stuck in a blackedout hotel.

Happy to say, everything was back to normal in NYC and the meal was delicious. The staff made it fun and next time in town we will definitely be back.

P.S. Order the "Fried Shrimp appetizer.

4 Stars: More than pasta... (by bindonator)

Becco came highly rated everywhere we looked. They have a fabulous wine list where every bottle is only $20 and the servers are knowledgable enough to make recommendations based on your likes and dislikes. I had the pasta special (the mushroom ravoli were incredible), my husband had a chicken dish. We shared a bottle of wine and a dessert, but our bill was only $90 (including tip). We stuffed ourselves with food and took the cannelloni home to eat later. (By the way, if you like cannelloni ask for it as it wasn't on our menu!) One word of warning: this place is BUSY, so don't show up late for your reservations or they may not be able to seat you for a while.

5 Stars: Fabulous (by tania)

We were recently visiting New York and were on our way to a Show. We made reservations at Becco. We had prompt seating, outstanding service, amazing food, tremendous wine list (we recommend the Sangiovese). What made our visit extra special was that we didn't have room for dessert at the end of our meal (the pasta was so amazing we just kept eating), our waiter suggested we come back after our show, which we did. To our surprise they recognized us, set up a "special dessert table" and served us some FABULOUS desserts, topped off with wonderful after-dinner-drinks. All in all, a perfect dining experience. Thanks Becco!

5 Stars: Best Birthday Ever (by 4433772)

The meal was booked for a surprise 30th birthday for my husband. When making reservations, I asked if a bottle of Champagne could be waiting at the table for when we arrived.
Not only was the chapmagne chilled and waiting for us, but the staff made us feel extremely welcome. The waiter even dressed up my husbands dessert with a candle and wrote 'Happy Birthday' in chocolate sauce - it's the little touches.
The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and the price could not be beaten.
I will definitely be returning and I would recommend Becco's to one and all!

We were late getting into town to see a Broadway show and had several cell phone conversations with the lady and gentleman who kept answering the phone. They were extremely helpful and held our table for us. After a LONG TERRIBLE drive into the city, we arrived at Becco. Very warm greeting and excellent service. Our food came out on time and we got to our show which our waiter gave us directions to. Too many good things to say about this place.

5 Stars: Special Day (by UpstateSisters)

This past Saturday, two weary, rain-bedraggled shoppers showed up at Becco. Even tho we did not have reservations, the lovely young lady at the door put us down for the 1st dinner seating. We were treated in grand style by all the staff, and had the best meal we've had on a shopping trip. Although we could have made a meal of the breads and dip alone, sis had a super steak;I had perfectly grilled salmon. Too full for desert but I ordered the sampler anyway. We devoured it. If you want to be alone, eat at home. If you want "cheap", go to McD's. But if you want really good food, pretty surroundings, sweet people waiting on you...give Becco a try. Sis works in a hospital , I work in a factory. Our pennies are hard-earned. Becco was worth every cent.

4 Stars: Great Food for the Money (by nanci0125)

My fiance and dined there on Saturday 5/3/03.
We arrived about 5:30 without a reservation.
Within a 1/2 hour we were seated.

Great food for the price. If you do the prix fix it's
$21. We ordered from the menu. The steak was great, as well as the special that evening, stuffed
boned suckling pig.

The only negative I can say is that their pasta as well as their risotto were a little too al dente for
me. I don't know if they always cook them that
al dente or if it was just the chefs that night.

Oh.. and 100 wines under $20!

5 Stars: Never Tasted Anything Like This Before (by bgmom)

My guests and I were stunned by the stuffed shells we had at Becco the other night. We asked our server what was in it, and he said it was ORANGE ZEST! I've never heard of that before! We also had Rigatoni with Broccoli and Garlic (mmmmm..) and a Fetucini with a meat sauce. A dessert sampler was shared for the table and consisted of bread pudding, homemade ice cream, a chocolate mousse to die for and fresh berries that were so good they should be illegal.

I highly reccomend Becco. The staff was fantastic, and be sure to say hello to the tall guy who sells the wine. His choices for our party were outstanding.

Fantastic wine selections. The $20 wine list had some surprising standouts. We had a large table so we were able to experiment and the staff was very helpful with recomendations. I had the pasta dinner and wasn't very impressed with the quality. It was good, but i had been expecting better. The seafood appetizer was a little fishy also. Service was great. The staff was friendly and attentive. Overall I recommend this restaurant, especially for larger groups who can take advantage and appreciate the large selection and varient of wine.

5 Stars: excellent pre-theatre dinner (by mcapucci)

A friend and I dined at Becco pre-theatre during the busy holiday season. The place was packed, but we didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The food was superb; our delicious pumpkin soup was served piping hot from a pot the server brought to the table. The Caesar salad (which comes with every entree) was heaped upon our plates from a huge platter. The entrees were so large, I took my leftover portion home and had lunch for two the next day! Each item on the dessert sampler plate was to die for. The only negative thing I can say is that we were unaware of the specials because our server did not inform us. Otherwise, a lovely experience.

5 Stars: Excellent food, excellent service. (by pickles79)

Make sure to make a reservation for this restaurant, because many people know how good it is and you'll wait. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. Have an empty stomach when you go because the portions are big. Prices are reasonable, worth every penny.

5 Stars: Good Show (by thrtgoer)

In between shows on Saturday, we thought we'd try to sneak into Becco. Reservations were unsuccessful, but we showed up anyway and were assisted by the doorman who helped us with the menu and took our order! When we sat, our dinner was delivered promplty (Like FAST) and we had plenty of time to make The Goat, which by the way I also recommend highly (Great Show!) . Look forward to going back with more time and really diving in to the menu and the wine list.

Lidia always makes her pasta smile :)

I Did after eating at Becco. Perfect Spinach Ravioli and a tender homemade linguni with Tomato and Basil. Service was great and our waitress was fantastic. My friend had a chicken dish she raved about with spinach and olives. Very busy, make a reservation.

5 Stars: Quite Good (by lady4bug)

Our dinner last night was good. I've heard much about htis place and was not disappointed. My companion had the fresh tuna which was cooked perfectly rare, and I had the Veal Osso Bucco which was falling off the bone delicious. A dessert sampler had a mousse to die for and some of the creamiest ice creams I have ever tasted. Try the Cherry Vanilla!

3 Stars: Overrated and overpriced (by picassopablo)

We had a large party of 10. I was not disappointed in the the veal chop I had, it was very good, but we could not get a dish of pasta for the kids at all. We paid full price and they ate nothing. The dishes were a bit unusual and very overpriced. The wine list was completely in Italian and the waiter seemed agitated with us. The best deal was the wine at $20/bottle. The food was okay, not worth $375.00. I'll go to Johns Pizza next time. We felt we were ripped off!

5 Stars: A Delightful New York Experience (by dduck1029)

My husband and I recently visited New York and ate at Becco before we saw a show. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The all you can eat pasta was wonderful and the flavors were amazing. The wine list is extensive and very reasonable ($20 a bottle). The service was superb and the dining room was filled with laughter and conversation of people enjoying a night out with friends and loved ones. We had a great time and would return.

Each time i want good food, i always go to becco. I constantly recommend this place to my friends who are seeing a show, a place to get together for a birthday or meeting friends for dinner. The price is reasonable, the service is wonderful, the people are really nice and the presentation is outstanding. Even though they have a wonderful menu selction i always order the pasta pre-fixed and how can you go wrong with the wine list for 20.00....do not pass up on tryin becco...you would be missing out!

I'm still full! 14 of us went last night to Becco. We did a four course extravaganza they call abbondanza. Awesome rib eye steak, chicken with olives and fettucvini bolognese were among some of the best things I've ever tasted. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Ate at Becco last night. All I can say is WOW! Appetizer of soft polenta and crispy mushrooms was unlike anything I've ever had. Delisch! And the pasta course with Ossobuco was fabulous. Busy place, lots of fun and great service.

1 Stars: just like home ... (by deanneromano)

if you want that! Someone comes by with a saucepan of different pastas, all at once, thrown on your plate most unappealingly. Like an all you can eat buffet at some cheap restaurant. And the salad was old, plain, and terrible. The 'good price' did not include anything but the slop they called pasta. The price was overpriced, way over priced. Go anywhere, but don't go here. I hear esca is good. The morracan place across the street served excellent fish. Great price too. DOn't remember the name.

5 Stars: Great food! Tight seating. (by ddc0660)

Very simple review:

Food was great! Their "pollo al limone" was fantastic. The atmosphere was amazing. My girlfriend and I had lunch on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate our anniversary. It was quite a romantic setting.

The room did get a bit noisy as the meal went on. It seems they've attempted to make use of every ounce of space in the dinning area. This led to a small logistical problem and a slight feeling of "crampness."

5 Stars: Excellent Italian, Great Service/Price (by ahwang)

Came here again for pre-theatre dinner. This time got the prix fixe pasta with antipasti starter. The antipasti consisted of excellent roasted vegetables, fresh peas, baby octopus, buffalo ricotta with honey, macerated salmon - all incredible and fresh. All-you-can-eat pastas of the day (served table side hot from the pan!!) were house-made linguine primavera, penne with tomato sauce and fresh basil, and oxtail ravioli (unbelievable). I had so much I thought I couldn't take anymore. Then I room for dessert! We shared ricotta cheesecake with sour cherries and amaretto semifreddo, paired with vin santo. With a bottle of rosso piceno, the tab came to $180 (tax/tip included) for 4 people. And our waiter was absolutely delightful and very knowledgeable on the food and wine.

5 Stars: Will Definitely go back (by boarderdeb)

I had a friend in from Texas and we met there at 9pm. Even though our reservations weren't until 9:30pm, they took us right away. We had a table upstairs and I loved the room. The service was incredible. Leave a lot of time to eat though, because they let you EXPERIENCE the meal, you are not rushed through it. We did not leave there until 12:20am. The portions are huge, and I would recommend adding the all-you-can-eat 3 pastas to any meal. It was worth it. And definitely get the dessert sampler. For only $4.50 pp, you get about 3 desserts each. Great for sharing. All wines were $20 and we really enjoyed ours. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. Bravo!
