The Texas way of saying Tex-Mex at it's BEST! Unassuming and tucked into Downtown Dallas, this warm and tasty place has made it's mark! Ice cold drinks and full flavored selections, these dishes taste like no other Tex-Mex! Mix and match your choice of traditional 'perfect plate creations', or choose from entrees like: Crispy HUGE Tortilla shells overstuffed with juicy Fajita meat and crisp, fresh lettuce. Rellenos topped with choices of 8 not-so-secret-anymore sauces, Mesquite-grilled-peppered-bacon-wrapped- jumbo shrimp, or half rack of mesquite ribs that fall off the bone when you look at them! Pull up to the HUGE patio bar for refreshments or cozy into a corner for a choice of desserts that you will make room for. Party on, in the upper dining area, complete with bar and pool table. This is a must see for Tex-Mex and great restaurant lovers alike!

In Short
Two oversized flat-screen TVs mounted on the back walls and a long bar dominate the narrow, high-ceilinged room. Exposed brick and hardwood floors remain unchanged from previous tenants. The menu is basic with a few surprises such as the fish taco wrap: lightly fried fish garnished and wrapped in a flour tortilla. Other entrees include mesquite-grilled pork ribs and taco salad. Tres leches chocolate cake and fried ice cream are rich desserts.

Key Points

  • Outstanding enclosed Patio!
  • Best Tex-Mex in Downtown area!
  • Famous Fried Ice-Cream

The Inside Scoop

  1. Save Money - Beers and wells are $3 from 4pm to 7pm weekdays.

Sol Irlandes Restaurant is my favorite Tex Mex

by andrea J.

I love this restaurant. The food is great. The plates are filled with more than you can eat in one sitting. Everything is so flavorful. I usually have the chimichanga and the appetizer platter with quesadillas, nachos and flautas and guacamole on it. Can't think of the name right now. I overeat every time I go there. You definately get your money's worth. I cannot remember exactly what I pay for the food but I never hesitate to order an appetizer, entree, dessert and drinks from the bar. The service is exceptional. The staff has such great personalities and make you want to be there. I live in Fort Worth but I drive to downtown Dallas for great Tex Mex and atmosphere. I last attended for my birthday on a Friday night. I did not call ahead and there were approximately 13 in my party. They accommidated us with no problem and the wait was not very long.

Sol Irlandes Restaurant - great atmosphere & friendly service

by Fuzz B.

Oh, so love giving 4 stars at a minimum on a review that is so favorable by others; but unable to do so here. Love the atmosphere, the ambiance and surroundings. Beautiful place, great patio for good weather. Greeted and seated promptly in a most comfy booth by friendly host. From here on, I'll categorize our experience: Drinks ordered and served promptly. One Miller Lite, and one top shelf margarita. NO draft beer; not a good thing according to my BF, But, he survived with two more bottled beers. My top shelf was very weak; not much tequila or Grand Marnier @ $11.00 for a 12 oz mug. Disappointment. Did not order another. I loved the thin crispy chips and the salsa. Soft corn tortillas were very good; served with ice cold butter which tore the tortillas when trying to spread. Hey folks; SERVE ROOM TEMP butter with soft tortillas. This is a Mexican Restaurant requirement! Friend's chicken fajita salad was very good; nothing different or outstanding, but very edible. He said the balsamic & vinaigrette dressing was quite good. He left no morsels behind. I had the "build your own combo", 3 items; a cheese and onion enchilada with chili con queso sauce; a beef tamale and a crispy beef taco with onions, served with rice and beans. A very large portion, huge plate. The enchilada was good, tasty...cheese sauce creamy. (But, NO onions as ordered) The tamale was good on the first bite, but then got a bite of tough, stringy beef. No more of that. Loved the beef taco; meat was perfectly seasoned and spicy; lettuce and tomatoes fresh but, again, the chef forgot the onions. (Advised my server and he brought a side of freshly chopped onions. Problem solved) The refried beans were probably my favorite, very creamy, smokey, with cheese on top. No rice for me however, too much chili powder. Service was a "10"; our server was friendly, courteous, professional and had a great sense of humor. Could have not been treated better. I think I will go back; maybe try the Shrimp Enchiladas & ask the bartender "pretty please" to put some liquor in the top shelf marg, huh? Pros: Great atmosphere, cool, relaxing placeCons: Weak Top Shelf Marg, stringy beef in Tamale

THE ANSWER TO BIG CHAINS!!!

by Nick G.

Awesome ribs, my wife had the fajitas which were outstanding. Guacamole was fresh made (and very flavorful), not like the mush you find at the big chains out of a plastic bag.
Service was attentive and FRIENDLY with the server actually giving us the kind of service we all wish we'd get.
Even Tom the owner stopped by and made sure we were having a good time, we'll be back with our friends!
Worth the drive to downtown!!

Great food

My husband and I rarely go to Dallas and we were recommended to go to this Mexican food restaurant. We sat outside which was a great atmosphere. The fajitas were great along with the queso and gauc.

Good lunch choice

by Jason E. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,250

The food is average and the service about the same. I work in Downtown Dallas and go here sometimes for lunch. I would not make a special trip for dinner.

Best Hangout Spot In Dallas

by CSMobileUser

My aunt and I stopped by this place to say hi to an old friend and ended up staying over 2 hours! The atmosphere is so inviting you don't ever feel like leaving. The drinks were amazing and the bartenders were very friendly. This is my new downtown spot without a shadow of a doubt!

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

One of the Best spots in Downtown

by arphilli

Although our Entertainment Book coupon wasn't honored, Sol Irlandes posted that on the door and marquee. Attentive staff, including the valet. Manager checked on us twice and the wait staff worked as a team to take care of ours and the neighboring tables' needs. Great food and drink at fair prices. We shared the Fish Taco Wrap and Acapulco Enchiladas. Best location on Main Street, too.

Pros: Great Waitstaff, management, , drinks, and atmosphere

Cons: The chips didn't do justice to the fantastic salsa

The BEST Mexican food and Happy hour downtown!

by wendyyork2

I live down the street from solirlandes Mexican restaurant downtown. I have been coming to this downtown mexican restaurant since they opened. The Ribs are AMAZING, the Mexican fish tacos are my lunch favorite and the margaritas at 3 dollars and the appetizers at 3 dollars during happy hour are unbeatable! Big portions, fair pricing and great service. Their patio is a great place to watch people when they get off work as well in the downtown area. Free chips and salsa every day too. They have a HUGE room upstairs with a private bar, pool table & fireplace that is PERFECT for parties. Call ahead for big parties and they can accommodate up to 150 upstairs. HUGE tv?s too for sports. Get your margarita, game day on! As you can see I really can't say enough about this fantastic mexican restaurant. Go now!

Pros: GREAT Value, food, drinks and service

Cons: not a one

BEST DRINKS in town!!

by mits

All is great but the only thing i would like to see change is the menu. I have lunch once or twice a week and the menu is old. We should all suggest to have beef brisket tacos and a new soup added to the menu.

Pros: BEST drinks in town!!

Cons: Need to add new items to the menu

Best Downtown Hangout

by TLDowntown

This place is INCREDIBLE! INCREDIBLE food and atmosphere! We have been back time and time again and every time we have a memorable experience! My favorite time is the Spring and the patio is a great place to hangout and enjoy the INCREDIBLE Margaritas! This place offers it all - INCREDIBLE patio, big screen TVs, upstairs is elegant; yet casual with a bar, fireplace, pool table and TV! What is surprising is how large and accomodating it is - my friend just hosted a party upstairs and the staff did a great job of making sure is was an INCREDIBLE event! I found out that this place is not owned by a corporation - it is individually owned and operated and I believe that makes a big difference in how it is operated. Go see for yourself!

Pros: Atmosphere and Food

Hang out and really relax!!!!!

by perryq

One of the reason I like to visit Sol Irlandes is that , I have never been disappointed with the food, the atmosphere has always been welcoming. The staff has always been very accommodating, and the owner (Tom) is a true professional. This guy inspects what he expects from his staff.
This is one of the very few true places where you can actually be yourself. (No pretentious overrated dress code) Wink wink (other places downtown).

It is also good for networking within the business community. You would never know in this metroplez called the big "D", who you might run into!!! I would come back again and again . P.S. The Best RIBS in town!!

Pros: Good food

Cons: Parking

Great lunch break!

by ksmith719

Fun, cozy atmosphere. Service has always been friendly and timely. Food is and hot. Eaten here on several occasions, and food/service have been consistently good. Being downtown, it's great for a lunch break during work. I recommend the enchiladas or flautas with queso. Portion sizes are appropriate for price.

Pros: Service, value

Cons: parking

Wonderful Little Nook ....

by jcflores5096

Great location and great food. The fish tacos are quite tasty as are the fabulous margarita's. The service is punctual and very friendly. Prices are somewhat reasonable and the food leaves your belly satisfied. Great location for downtown residents and a wonderful alternative to the sometimes pricey "Iron Cactus". Casual attire is welcome.

What a COOL PLACE!

by kamit75

What a cool place to visit while I was in town. I was in town on business and was referred to this bar through the hotel I was staying at. Not only was it a great choice, but I was able to see the big screens from where I was sitting in the bar. The fried ice cream was an incredible finish to the delicious fajitas I had for dinner. When you go make sure you go see upstairs with the small lounge area in the back. Sit down and relax with a glass of wine by the fire.

Simple urban decor, meets hearty traditional fare paired with great service and good friends, a perfect combination.

by drubsamen

An urban respite full of friends and good food. Our two seat table looked out over the courtyard, sure to be a favorite spot come spring/summer for people watching and a sense of downtown lifestyle. JC's favorite Fish Taco's are light and delicious; the Tortilla soup was full of chicken & fresh vegetables, a hearty flavor perfect for our winter visit; the Tres Leche cake, Fried Ice Cream and Raspberry Flan were all scrumptious - they have partnered with one of BEST pastry chefs in the city.

No need to leave too soon, the bars have HUGE plasma screens showing your favorite sports, grab a cue and shoot some pool to work off the dessert or your favorite beverage perched on the leather couch next to the fireplace.

The location is easy to find on Main Street and a short walk to Niemen?s and Jos A Banks new downtown location, a great location for lunch or a romantic dinner followed by a night at the theater. Parking takes some work, so take advantage of the Valet service.

Simple urban decor, meets hearty traditional fare paired with great service and good friends, a perfect combination.

Great place to relax

by downtowners

I finally found a new hang out. This place is just to much to be explained here. You must see for yourself what it is like inside. Not only is the decor perfect, but so is the food. Started easy with the build your own plate, but went back for the delicious ribs and shrimp plate. The patio batr was perfect with heaters and easy to get to the bar since the doors were opened up to the bar and inside. Got a great seat outside for watching the Mavs play. Ifelt like I was really at the game.

GREAT food! HUGE big screens for football!

by wendyyork

We have been here twice now and it is GREAT! Love the individual nachos, you can get them in beef, steak ( the bartenders fave) or chicken. They have a great place upstairs for parties with a pooltable, fireplace and couch. I really want to tell you about the football day we had!!!!!!! Oh, my gosh! The flatscreens on the walls are HUGE! The crowd was great and the place was warm, inviting and fun fun fun. The place is BRAND NEW and super clean. Overall a 11!!! service, food and fun! yes yes yes!!! Happy hour specials too! Check it out now!

Pros: great food, fun and drinks!

Cons: You have to find your own parking. Valet is across the street tho.
