Great Thai Food

by Adri J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,651

Thai Satay is me and my boyfriends favorite Thai restaurant in South San Francisco. They employees were friendly and get our order ready really fast. By the time we get there it is ready for pick up. The only thing is we wish they had delivery, but we only live 8 minutes away.

Very nice restaurant. The staff is friendly and service is fast. The food was very good. The soup was excellent. This is one of the best Thai food restaurants in the bay area.

Fantastic Thai food at Thai Satay So. San Francisco

by Vibeke S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,576

I have probably eaten at Thai Satay at least twenty times. It is one of my favorite restaurants, and without doubt the best Thai restaurant that I have visited. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, the service is frriendly and attentive, but it is the food that really sets this restaurant apart. The seafood delight is heavenly, the green curry duck fantastic, the Pad Thai perfect, the Tom Yam soup just the thing on a cold evening. I have spent many happy evenings here and have been impressed with every single dish I have tasted, dessert included. Highly recommended.

Friendly Folks and Great Food

by tvoss98

Hungry and venturing out for my first evening in the area, I just arrived in San Fran. today and wasn't interested in taking the Grand Tour quite yet.

I found a terriffic restaurant close to my hotel and it was definately a good choice. The wait staff was friendly, and both my appetizer and entree were extremely fresh and tasted excellent. I arrived a bit late in the evening so the waiter was happy to suggest which items wouldn't be recommended this late in the evening. I quizzed him about a few of the suggested entrees and he was quick to help direct me towards the item that sounded best. I was very happy with my choice.

I like to enjoy a coctail with my meal and Thai Satay was complete with a full bar with a heavy pouring bartender. I recommend the curry items on the menu and don't be afraid to request it spicy (they dont go overboard). The spring rolls were also excellent.

I would definately choose this restaurant again. Two Thubs up.

Pros: Meal was excellent, staff was friendly

Cons: none

Tasty food. HOT. Politely TERRIBLE service.

by szaman

I ordered the Panang Beef. The portion size was decent. I foolishly went with the reviewer who said their food was too bland and told them to make it extra hot. It was so spicy my nose was running and I eat Habanero peppers on everything. It was delicious. Now for the bad: The staff is extremely polite..when they're not COMPLETELY IGNORING YOU...which is 99% of the time you're there. When I was done I wanted a dessert, but the waitress quickly rushed my check over to me. Its some of the worst service I ever experienced. Food was great though. Don't be fooled by the reviewer who said its not hot enough. He must be eating battery acid with his food.

Pros: Delicious food. HOT!

Cons: Polite, but TERRIBLE service. They want you out of there as soon as possible!

Great Food

by mix91

We went there for lunch and the portions are very generous. Great prices and good food. This place is way better than Thai Stick in Millbrae.
Nice atmosphere, easy parking and friendly staff.
Note: the spicey dishes have a * next to them on the menu.
I enjoyed the pad thai and the basil beef (spicey)

Pros: Great Lunch Spot

Cons: none

Terribly bland Thai food

by wpbaird

My wife and I eat Thai food on a regular basis. We are from South Carolina, but are travelling around the country on a 7 month RV trip. We have eaten at a Thai or Indian restaurant in every large city we have stopped at, and Thai Satay had, by far, the most tasteless, bland food we have had yet.

My wife and I split the Pad Thai and the Yellow Curry. The Pad Thai was not as good as the Thai for Two Pad Thai that you can buy at most grocery stores and prepare yourself. It actually tasted downright bad. and we did not eat all of it. The yellow curry, which is usually full of flavor, was lacking of any taste whatsoever. My wife would not even eat it, and I only ate it until I was no longer hungry, which did not take very long with this dish.

If you want an authentic Thai meal or just some good food, go somewhere else!

Pros: The restaurant had a decent charm.

Cons: The food was lacking of any taste whatsoever.

Best Thai food on the Peninsula in an upscale, friendly place.

by mmbarale

Excellent Thai food with an upscale ambience. Great for business lunches/dinners or a romantic evening out. Service is great, food is excellent and plentiful. Parking on-street or in lots around the main street on Grand Avenue (metered parking before 6pm).

Pros: Ambience, food, service

Cons: Parking

Not bad, but not great

by renagoodman

The portion sizes here were definitely good, especially since the meal came with soup and a salad. The food was ok, and although I know that Thai food in general isn't my favorite, I think it could have used a little more umph, a little more spice to it. However, not bad, and very friendly staff.
