This place is painfully slow, very small portions, and overpriced food! The service horrible and the food is really boring!

My family and I hit the Sunday buffet. The food was good although I'm not a huge Indian food fan. Wife liked it but she doesn't think we'll ever go back.\r

Service was poor - got some crabby old timer who was pissed I had a groupon

This is our FAVORITE restaurant in the Eagan area, hands down! Our three kids love it too, even the two-year-old. Whether you eat in our get take-out, the food is truly awesome. Try the Malai Kofta, or Nav Rattan Korma - our kids love both of those (we get it mild for them). Don't forget to order some Naan (Indian bread); you can get it plain or get flavors such as garlic or Aloo Naan, which is stuffed with delicious potatoes that have a little kick. The service is always friendly and attentive. We love Sambol!! We're so lucky to have this great restaurant in the area.

Best Indian food in town, maybe in Minnesota. Try the Nav Rattan Korma- vegetarian. It's amazing!!! I've been going here for years and love it so much. It's family owned and operated, so I like that more than a franchised restaurant. Have to say not the best table service I've ever had, but the food makes up for it undoubtedly. What they lack in speed they make up for in charm. Highly recommend!

People have commented on the Prices being a little high here, but the quality is excellent. Think of it as PF Chang's vs Panda Express. Similair cuisine, but much better ingredients.

We visit Sambol almost weekly for dinners. Food is a blend of Indian & Srilankan which is awesome. Gothamba Roti, Kothu Roti, Appam which are available only in this restaurant not in others. Service is also good compared to other Indian restaurants in Minneapolis. I feel it's bit pricy compared to other restaurants for certain items like Spring Dosa that's the only con. I've taken friends from North India for a party and everyone seemed to be impressed with food's taste too. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits / dwells in Minneapolis.

Sambol is a very good place to eat. I really like the indian decorations and the food is great. They have these delicious dishes that i really enjoy . Me and my family go out there even though we live really far away, but it's worth the car ride. it's located in a good place, where anyone can go visit. many people complain about the service, I'm sorry to say to those people, but the service has always been great to me, maybe it was that one day that you probably had bad luck, but if you worked at a restaurant and the waiter made a mistake, it happens, everyone does! Maybe you should start working in restaurants and SEE it for yourself!! overall the restaurant is GREAT! The FOOD is authentic, had never tried this food, until my dad recommended to go out there and give it a try. And he was right it worked!! We have no complains about anything. We really enjoy it a lot. many times we've visited and there was 0 times where we got a bad service, Thank you for making this restaurant the best!!!
About the food, YUMMY!! The chicken dishes are delicious! The drinks are SWEEEET and good tasting!
i really recommend you to visit SAMBOL Restaurant! you'll really enjoy it a lot! Visit with your family, friends, or even your sweetheart, you'll like th environment and the clean atmosphere.

ENJOY IT!

Like the other guy said, someone bought the old Indian restaurant and turned it into Sambol but I have to say the food has only improved. The buffet during lunch is great and everything is really good. Sambol even has Masala Dosa which is hard to find. Excellent taste!

My husband and I went to Sambol around 7 pm on a Tuesday night and found that the place was packed, but we were able to get a table and the waiter was helpful and the service was fine.
We ordered the Chicken Makahani (Butter Chicken), Palak Chana (spinach and garbanzo beans), garlic naan, and carmel custard. The food was served quickly and was hot and delicious. Most Indian restaurants serve Chicken Makahani but I've never tasted this dish as flavorful as it was at Sambol. The cooks seem to take a lot of time to marinate the chicken for full flavor.
The bill was around $25, which was very reasonable. My husband and I will definitely go back soon and try more of the delicious dishes.

This restaurant beats Taste of India and Great India and is the best restaurant for Indian cuisine in Minnesota. You can't find anything as good as this in the midwest. The spices are authentic and everything tastes homemade and fresh. Would go there everyday if I could.

I agree with the other review that said the service was the worst in town. My food was was not what I ordered, and I could not finish it. Worse still, my son's order was forgotten, even after reminders, and he was not served until the rest of our party of 6 had finished. The worst part, was the utter lack of regard for this poor service. Not one apology, and no credit on our bill. We won't be back.

Having been to Southern Asia many times, I have experienced what true Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine is like, I have high expectations for Indian restaurants in the US. I have found that Sambol Restaurant has gone above and beyond other Indian restaurants in MN and the US with their authentic and irresistible cuisine.

Upon venturing to Sambol Restaurant for the first time, I was thrown off a bit by the many different people I saw trying the food. Chinese, Somali, and many American people were seated, all indulged in their meal's. I figured that if people who did not grow up with spicy curries were able to enjoy them, then it was worth a try.

My first surprise was the quality of the Indian bread called "nan" which can often be found burnt and crispy at other Indian restaurants in MN. The nan served at Sambol was warm and perfectly baked. It is a skill to be able to cook nan in the US, and it is rare to find a cook who is able to achieve the perfection which Sambol has. Whomever their chef is deserves much praise!

Though it is hard to summarize the absolute perfection of the food at Sambol, I will try due to the length of this review. The food is served in large portions and is very reasonably priced. The quality is beyond exceptional and the service, though sometimes slow, is very good.

Whether you are American or Indian, on a tight budget or willing to spend a lot, a carnivore or vegetarian, Sambol restaurant is sure to transport you to a whole other land with their spices and curries and world-class cuisine.

Good, not great food
Terrible service
Atmosphere is slightly better than a typical strip mall restaurant

My wife and I have been here twice.

First visit. Our food came which looked wrong and we pointed out to the waiter, he replied that we were wrong, so we thought, it looks good lets eat. As we took a couple bites we verified that indeed the food was not what we ordered. Again we pointed this out to the waiter, to which he looked confused and had nothing to say. The wrong food was good and we were not sure the correct order was being resolved so we starting eating this food. When we were almost done, 30minutes later, our actual food shows up. So we now have a table full of food. And the couple next to us who have not received there food, yet they were there when we were seated, finally get the attention of the waiter about why they have not gotten their food. As they were naming their dishes, b/c the waiter had misplaced the tickets. We realized that we received their food and our food and even though we called our waiters attention to the mistake he was still too incompetent to correct it.

The second visit. Were seated at 7pm on Friday night, ordered about 5 minutes after we were seated. The food finally arrived 1 hour later, a little after 8. Again the food was very good. Once we had finished we could not get the attention of the waiter and ask for the ticket a couple of times. It never came after 20 to 30 minutes. So we walked out.

We will never go back and I would recommend anyone to possibly just order the food to go and pick it up.

It is too bad the service is so bad b/c again the food is solid.

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the service, and it was the best indian food I've had in the twin cities. I try to save it for special occasions otherwise, I'd gain a ton of weight - everything is so good.

I've eaten at this place three or so times and loved the food each and every time. I especially would recommend the lamb palak and the korma. Both are excellent. On our first visit my husband ordered something that was out of this world, but we can't remember what it was!!! Maybe it was the Masala? We'll have to keep going back to try more and more. The portions are good sized---we usually take home an extra serving or two. We've ordered take out a couple of times and found it to be just as good.

Be patient with me, this is my first review. I brought a couple of Guyanese friends here on Tuesday 4/24. We had the lunch buffet. Chicken curry, dum aloo, mango custard, tandori chicken, naan, eggplant curry, rice, salad and golden jammers (gulab jamun). This is what we all had to eat. It all tasted so good. My first time having dum alloo. That is some really good stuff. The chicken curry was excellent. I am use to it being a bit more spicier, but this was great just the same. The gulab jamun, I could never remember the name. So I came up with a name that is very similar, golden jammers. All my Guyanese friends know what I mean. We will definitely be coming back (I live in Robbinsdale, NW metro area, so this is a long drive) for the lunch buffet again. Will also be coming back some time to try our some menu items. Thank you so much for the good food.

I have seen this restaurant go through several iterations and Sambol is the best yet. We went there Friday night and got great service, and excellent food. We were at another Indian restaurant in St. Louis Park recently (which had been recommended) and Sambol could give them lessons in Indian cooking, service, and atmosphere.

As someone who was relatively new to Indian (and Sri Lankan!), this restaurant has opened up new tastes for me. The Devillish Chicken (Sri Lankan) was terrific, the Chicken Vindaloo - terrific, too! There wasn't one person at our table of four who didn't love what they ordered (and we all liked each other's orders). Portions look small when they arrive, but that was deceptive - it was more than we could eat.

Also, the lunch buffets are great, too.

Sambol Restaurant is a true treat of India and Sri Lanka. I have been to many places, far and near, where hoppers have been served and I give Sambol Restaurant 10 shiny gold stars for the flavor, texture and quality of this delectable treat! Not only is the food excellent, but the experience is also captivating. The friendly wait staff, exotic flare, and overall presentation captures your imagination as if to say Namaste before you even sit down to order. I hope to try Sambols Tandoori Chicken-on-a-Stick at the 2007 Minnesota State Fair!

I went to this Restaurant with my whole family (Wife, Kids and some folks), and we found this family-oriented,warm and friendly place where we could feel the kindness of the workers, plus the bright smile of the owner who literally make you feel like in home.-Then the originality of the dishes (either spicy or mild), the atmosphere, and the ornaments really gives you a exotic taste of India and the island of Sri Lanka that invite us to come back over and over again.
So, I don't hesitate to say everybody who ask me about it, Go and enjoy the food, the environment and the good service without travel overseas!!!
Good Job!!

Some of our favorites were Palak Paneer, Nav Rattan Korma; Chana Masala; a deep fried catfish coated in graham flour, Indian spices - very delicious, light and not at all oily; and Chicken Biryani - rice with spices and chicken; lemon rice and white rice with peas. For dessert, they served Mango pudding, Kheer that is creamy rice pudding, and Gulab Jamun - deep fried milk balls in sweet syrup. Everything we tried was delicious. So delicious in fact, that Lou brought the gang down on Thursday, and we returned the following Sunday. Lou's only comment was "why didn't you tell me about this restaurant before?"

Our general dining rule - don't eat in a strip mall restaurant, and dont do buffets. Sambol is an exception to that general rule. The buffet food was fresh and hot both times we were there and it was very good.

As an indian iam always in a search for good indian restaurant and when i found this place just a couple of miles from my house we immediately went for a lunch buffet during weekday.Wow lots of items and most of them are very tasty and never a plate was empty in the buffet. They just kept n filling it at am amazing speed.I loved the dosas and the naan varieties very much and not to forget the gheer which really brings the smell of india. The food is not very spicy so this is will suit everyone. Too bad that the restaurant has been bought by some other management and the name has been changed to The Sambol.

After moving "out of the city" to the south metro area, one of my complaints was the lack of a quality Indian restaurant. Shortly after moving, the current owners of Sambol took over an Indian restaurant and transformed it into one of the best in the Twin Cities. Fantastic service and wonderful Indian food, not just for the Twin Cities but compared to NYC and international Indian restaurants I've frequented.
