2 indoor floors each with its own DJ, dance floor, bar and lounge PLUS a rooftop area with a bar and seating areas. Everyone that works here is always super friendly and both staff and customers are untypically attitude free.

Pros: Moderate drink prices and no cover during the week

Cons: On a nice day everyone wants to be on the roof

I've never written a review in my life, but I had to to let people know to NEVER go to this bar. My friends had a big birthday party here. My boyfriend and his friends got too drunk and took their shirts off. A bouncer came up to him and told him to put his shirt back on. Before he could respond the bouncer pushed him 15 feet to another bouncer who put my bf in a stranglehold, carried him down 3 flights of stairs like that, and then 3 other bouncers jumped on my bf- all the while he was gasping for breath. What's especially distressing is that they seem to have a protocol set up for this kind of violence because 2 other bouncers came out of nowhere to block me and my bf's friends from coming down the stairs to see what was going on. When I asked the guy who strangled my boyfriend what his name was, he said, "My dick." The doorman then insisted he could not help us in contacting management about this. This was the craziest, most randomly violent act I have ever witnessed.

The bouncers at the door were nice, no attitude. Bar has three floors, but the Bar's first floor is actually the building's second floor...Atmosphere was okay, but nothing special. The roof top had no view, you only see other building walls and the furniture was all plastic and since we went the day after it rained, everything was still wet. The place gets packed around 12pm and filled with an older crowd in the late 20's to mid 30's. The place was also a sausage-fest; ladies can go to meet guys, but i would say that the selection is below par. The place also gets very hot! Some patrons didnt use deodorant, so it got very stinky!

My friend threw her birthday party here and we all showed up sans the birthday girl before 11pm. The bouncer said there was a cover fee (but when the birthday girl made the reservations-they said to just mention her name and we all get in for free) so we bitched to the bouncer and he decided to let the girls get in for free but the guys had to pay a cover charge. We got in there and it was DEAD. So we just got a few drinks and headed up to the roof. The roof was comfy, a cute place, the place started picking up around 12 and by 1 all the floors were packed with people. The place was ok...just like any other typical bar/lounge. We all decided to leave when it became a sausage-fest and the guys were getting all grabby.

This place was a travesty from start to finish. A $10 cover for a birthday party and I get upstairs and there are probably 12 people in the entire place. Overpriced drinks. Surly attitude from all bouncers and assorted security cretins. An outside area crammed full with uncomfortable seats and cheesy redbull decor. Seriously low class clientele.

Back downstairs, the "DJ" plays 3 Sean Paul songs in a row. Awful, I was so happy to leave an hour later. I would only go back with a flamethrower.

This place is pretty good! I had my birthday party here a week back with about 35 friends. It was very easy to setup and the owner (Seth) was very helpful. He setup a decent deal for the open bar. The bouncers were pretty friendly and my friends and I had a great time. The music was pretty good also and we stayed till closing time.
The only rub was that one of the bartenders on the 3rd floor was quite rude and made it a point to tell everyone on an open bar that they HAD to give him a tip!

I had my birthday party here on Saturday night, Nov 3rd 2007. I had been planning to go to Branch in midtown east, but they flaked out at the last minute and said I could only put 10 people on the guestlist (my list was around 30 people). So I was left scrambling for a new venue at the last minute.

Gabe, the manager at Bar 13, was so friendly and accommodating. He responded quickly to emails and phone messages, and set us up with a reserved table, reduced cover, and open bar option for my guests. When we got there, the door staff, bartenders, etc. were also really nice. Music on the lower floor was great, hip-hop, top 40, some older classics too. I didn't get a chance to see any of the other floors. The place was really packed by around midnight, and it was a fun, attractive crowd.

Everyone had a great time at my birthday... Many thanks to the Bar 13 team for making it a success. Highly recommended!

Went here this past Saturday night (7/21/07)! Got there around 11pm and it was EMPTY, cover = $10. However, around 12am you turn around and a decent amount of people have shown up. Not crazy get your elbow out of my eye packed but not empty either. Drinks are made super strong so you def get your moneys worth (which is a little pricey for a place with the word BAR in it's title). ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS MUSIC = FANTASTIC!! I would go back to dance the night away. Our plans were to stay for a little but the music had us on our feet ALLL night and the feeling of not wanting to leave. Mainly Hip hop but they thro in the ocasional GNR and Aerosmith tastefully!! Old and new hip hop blended together. Awesome. Crowd is decent looking and there is an open roof deck for smokers, however a line forms later in the night. Didn't spend too much time on the 1st floor which i believe is the "lounge" but while exiting it seemed as tho the music was just as loud as the 2nd floor (the club) so makes no diff.

I've been to Bar 13 twice and have had a great time both nights. A couple of my friends had parties here, and they were hooked up with open bar specials for their guests. The place itself has three floors, including a roof. Each floor is pretty big, so I don't see how the place can get too crowded. The prices are comparable to other bars in NY, but the specials are ones to go for! I'll definitely be asking them to host my parties in the future.

This is offically the WORST bar I've even been to in my life. We went for happy hour on a Thursday night and it was really crappy. The guy at the door was such a loser and was giving people a hard time about getting it - they actually had a velvet rope. C'mon. The roof deck leaves much to be desired and every drink in the place is served in tiny plastic cups. The music was so loud you could barely socialize with people. The place was overcrowded with huge security guys in black suits - this place is a joke. I would never consider going back here. And after 7PM on weekdays and saturday nights they actually charge a cover - do not waste your money. Go somewhere else!!!

The location should have been an indicator of what was inside...very college-ish lounge/club. I felt like I was a frat's dance party half the time, not in a NYC bar.

I've been here for a couple bday parties. Decent music, chill crowd. This place is such a throwback - feels like a house party or college party. There is a rooftop area as well, but it's just OK. And I don't understand the $10 cover, but supercheap drinks make up for it.

i guess the bar itself is ok. they have a rooftop which is nice but there are plenty of other places with an outdoor area.
i was there for a buddy's birthday. we had rented out the third floor for a private party. the bartender (who thinks she is sooo much hotter than she actually is) tried pulling a fast one on a few of us; including myself. i gave her a $50 and got change back for a $20. i didnt realize this until about 20 minutes later. i confronted her about this matter. she "admitted" to giving me the wrong change by "accident". she then gave me the rest of what she owed me. she was very rude about it. i got rude back and before i knew it i was getting thrown out of the bar. i found out the next day the same thing happened to two of my buddies but they both didnt realize until it was too late. SHADY SHADY SHADY.

DONT EVER GO TO THIS BAR. WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN.

The man below who is saying it was the bartenders fault for scamming him out of his money, he's full of it. I was with him that night and he was very drunk and just liked to start trouble like he does wherever we go. He thought he could beat up the hot bartender but didn't do anything to the big black bouncers. what a tough guyyyyyyyyyyyy

another person we know urinated on the stairs there, that was his fault and he got kicked out. true story.

I've been here twice & have had fun both times. They play good music, but it does get pretty crowded. There was a $10 cover ($30 for open bar from 11pm-1am) one night, then other night, it was $5 (I think because it was after midnight). The roof was good to get some air or for a smoke. The crowd is pretty diverse, which is a plus. There was one weirdo but there's always one of those wherever you go.

Very hot young talent. And crowd. I felt very welcomed here, even though we were visiting from LA. The LA poetry slam team is tight so I had high expectations, and this place nailed it. Very local feel, plus you got a free drink with entry to help you get on your way. The place was packed and we ended up sitting on the floor-I think it was a special champs poetry nite, though, so Im not sure if that's the usual.

Anyone who didn't like this bar prob had one little thing go wrong and let it ruin their whole night. I've been here tons of times over the past few years, and its always a guaranteed blast. It's especially awesome in the summer bc of the rooftop deck where you can smoke and get some air. The music is always good- we usually wind up dancing our a**es off on the 2nd floor. It's unpretentious and the drinks are cheap. Sometimes there is a $10 cover- which really isn't a big deal bc that's about the price of one drink anywhere else. I was born and raised in Manhattan, and I think this is one of the best spots around.

this bar is not worth the $10 cover that i was charged despite being on a list for my friend's birthday party. i feel like they should be paying me for the time i lost there. i felt like i was in a basement the whole time. super-loud crappy music, tons of trashy girls dancing, almost NO guys. the only good part was cheap drinks ($7-8 range). apparently the roof is cool too, but it was closed due to rain so i can't vouch for that. there are SO many better places to spend your time and money... don't go to bar 13!!!

I had my birthday @ Bar 13 a few weeks ago. I bought a few bottles, and although they had told me that the people I had invited would have no trouble getting in, it seems like every single guest was given a hard time, and many of them were charged @ the door.
Also, the bouncers who were standing by the bathroom, were on some sort of an ego power trip, and were harrassing many of my friends.
Although there is a rooftop, no one was allowed upstairs. Its not like the bar was even packed.
Just an average bar, with horrible service, and ego-maniac bouncers. I will NEVER go back to Bar 13 again, and would not recommend this place to anyone.

Louder Mondays are official, the MC is fun and keeps the crowd going, the winner of the slam gets to try out for a team and the DJ has a sense of humor. 2 for 1 drink special isn't too bad either.
The whole atmosphere including the patrons and staff is laid back. Much to love.

It's a decent place to dance and meet folk on most Fridays (the last Fri. I went with my woman, her glasses were inadvertently knocked off and danced on). What takes the cake here is Spoken Word Mondays... it's just soooo relaxed and good to the ears, and it seems the bartender (the same one on the Fridays) mixes infinitely better.

Last Friday, went to 13 with friends and had a blast. The clientele was young (early 20's) and fun. I really liked the layout (3 levels) of the place. Each level had its own vibe and decor. One thing stands out above all, there were a bunch of cute, tipsy, and aggressive women! We were not dissapointed at all with 13. I am going to see if I can have my b-day at this spot.

I arranged a group of ~70 people for my girlfriend's birthday party. I spoke with the bar manager several weeks in advance about having a party there. When we arrived, he was extremely rude only gave us one table for about 6 people. He had told us he'd "take care of us" for bringing in so many people. However, he was just obnoxious when we arrived. He didn't believe people were going to come and said the bar was going to lose money. Very unprofessional. He was busy hitting on some girl in his DJ booth and did not want to deal with us. I regretted having the party there and will NEVER go back to Bar13. Also the "rooftop" was not so great at all. NO view. Just a plain old roof with a fence around it. There are a lot of better rooftop bars in this city.

This place was so awesome. We took my best friend there for her bachelorette party and we had such a great time. The music was terrific and the DJ was HOT!!! The drinks were really awesome too and not too expensive.

.

10 bucks to get in....waste....line....even bigger waste.

This place is full of people that I think are 21....or 22. New to the city and loving the scene. Only good thing about this place is the roof, the other 2 floors are like house apts with pounding music...in which the selection is questionable. First floor played a lot of madonna, second was more hip hop, and the roof....can't remember if there was music.

Drinks are 6 bucks. This place used to be cool 5 years ago...kinda beat at this point, but what the hell do I know, I'm just a poster.

Oh and like most places that don't know how to run right...you can't hear anyone talking to you. So those pick up lines boys aren't gonna work too well to get you to make out like a little one on the couches.

been going to 13 for years off and on. was my home when i first moved to nyc. just went back after @ 2 years and so impressed. its like the same, still really fun. no attitude. easy prices. great staff. people dancing. heard they've been running 9 years.
and the roofdeck addition is fab. its like miami. very impressed. a good place without the bells and whistles.

I always have a good time at Broadcast on Thursdays. I go to dance to the 80s New Wave music, not to be part of a "scene," and I've not been disappointed yet. The bartender is great, the drinks are strong and there's no cover. What more could you want?

Recently had my birthday party there. Although the night started off w/ one of the managers forgetting to inform the manager on duty of my party and passing on the guest list, they made up for it by reserving a section for my party of 60+ and checking on us throughout the night to make sure things were ok. Definitely a nice spot...good music, good drinks, great vibe. The rooftop is a great area to take a break and chill.

I went there a few weeks ago with some friends and this has to be one of the most ghetto-ist places I've ever been to. As soon as you go in, it feels like the floor is tilted for some reason. The music TOTALLY sucked and the DJ wasn't even using records, he was using a damn CD player! (I kid you not) My friend went up to the hole in the wall/DJ Booth and saw it herself. The best way to describe this place is like a really bad house party. The only good thing was that the crowd was very diverse and unpretentious.

If you like an empty lounge, this is the place. I've been going there for 3 years now on thursday nights and the place has gotten more and more empty. The last straw was the bartender's jealous boyfriend telling her to tell me not to stare at her, as if an anorexic woman is something to stare at. No wonder all the regulars have gone elsewhere.

Totally not worth it

This bar, 13.

I went once on Thursday, no cover, decent dj, but the crowd/ atmosphere stunk so bad, it screamed, "I wanna be a cool retro dude/ chick." The barmaids were annoying and didn't serve me right away...I don't even know why I tipped her. Can someone tell me? The only two things that were acceptable in this place was that there were four bathrooms and the color scheme of the place. I would recommend this place to the same tourists who wanna check out NYC and hang out in Time Square, but not for the laid back folk who enjoy beer, company, and non-pretentious crap.

Bar 13 all are welcome. University crowd, mixed with drag queens, punks, art'sy types and local downtown celebrity legends like Michael T., Lee Chapel and white people that invite everyone to celebrate GLAM....

For my birthday 25 of my friends went to Bar 13 early on a Friday night. Since we had a few more guys that we had girls they turned us away. I explained that there were more women showing up later who were on their way, but the woman at the door was totally unreasonable. We went elsewhere and had a fabulous time. Don't come here unless you have one girl for every guy!

i recently had a party there, and besides the fact that they screwed up the list countless times and i had to keep going down to the moron of a female bouncer to let my friends in, they turned away 3 of my guy friends because they didn't want any guys in there. FIRST of all, i had already brought in 50 people to spend money at their bar, and SECOND of all, does no bar owner realize that hot girls are not goin to go to a place where there's NO HOT GUYS?? why on earth would you turn away all the guys, then? when i spoke to the owner, he said "his hands are tied" when it comes to the door policy. riiiiight.

I stopped by Astor Lounge on a whim, and had a time that I will never forget. A debonair gentleman, I believe his name was, "William,"(or was it BillY?) took me by the hand and whisked me in to his paradise palace. The men? All stunning with wavy locks and piercing blue eyes. Would I go back? Not soon enough. I know that they are closing down to renovate, and I can't wait to strut back with my model gorgeous friends.

so the word is out boys and girls, astor lounge is no longer. al is to be replaced/reinvented/remodeled by a group of club kids from the area. billy fresko is supposedly setting up shop. as bill's first endevour this should be interesting, based on his track record this place should be a sure banger. hell if just his friends show up it will be one of the better spots in the city. see ya there....

I fly into NYC a few times a month to do business, I'm a young music exec. who likes to hang out at trendy places but also do not want to deal with any BS. I always make 13 a stop on my rounds and always have an awesome time. I've even come here alone and met people and had great time. But an awesome place for a small group looking to drink their faces off and dance like mad. cool staff, not to full of themselves. Great music. they make you feel welcome.

One of the best nights in a long time, mostly because of the chill crowd and great music. The roof deck is cool, but they could use a bar and a dj up there. Defenitely a place to bring a large group or out-of-towners.
