My wife and I were members for 26 months, of which the last 9 months of membership we were living overseas (i.e. paying $140/month but not using). One would figure that if you have a one-year contract, after 26 months it should be easy to cancel.

March of 2011, we were living in Cybergaya, Malaysia and I decided to cancel and save a lot of money. I remembered something about needing to put the notice in writing so I drafted a letter on March 4, 2011 and sent it by basic "air mail." Long story short, I didn't have the contract with me and did see the requirement that cancellation notices must be sent "Certified Mail."

Six months later, I return to the U.S. (last week) and go to buy a car where I find that Pure Austin had a collection out for two months of non-payment through Pro Collect. Our mail forwarding person hadn't seen anything from Pure Austin or ABC that looked like a notice nor any collection notices from Pro Collect and we didn't have access to our domestic cell phone calls while overseas.

Overall, a great gym...horrible contract terms and third party billing company is a pain. They can ruin a near perfect credit score unless you follow every rule to the "t."

As far as a gym goes it's definitely one of the nicer gyms around Austin. The staff was friendly for the most part and the equipment is great. I had downtime on my job and they wouldn't let me out of my year contract for anything. I

Dear Pure Austin, (11/6)

I had an account there with and ex-boyfriend and he closed the account. He sent me an email to let me know that I had to fill something out to close the account for myself so that you would quit charging me. I called your gym and asked you specifically what I needed to do to end the membership, and how to be sure no loose ends were left. I know how your lovely contracts work, and wanted to be sure we were completely DONE...and I had nothing to worry about. Your employee...Brandon, I think....faxed me the necessary paper work and assured me I was finished.

Well....I am looking to buy a car this month. I went to check my credit report only to find that your gym had sent a $69 payment to collections which dropped my credit score 47 points. I just cannot fathom how you all can do that to someone who did all the necessary steps to making a clean break with you. YOUR EMPLOYEES lack of knowledge or skill or common sense to let me know that there was another payment left on the account, after having an entire conversation with me about how I do not live in Austin anymore, and do not use your gym....has really screwed my life up now. I'm not going to be able to get a good rate on a car loan, if I'm able to get one at all. I called to discuss this with your manager David, whose only excuse was that..."he didn't know why the person I talked to wouldn't have told me about the remaining payment or balance, but they just have procedures they have to follow."

Well, you know what....your customer (ME) called you to see what those procedures were and you didn't give me correct information....and this is YOUR FAULT.

Thanks for ruining my day, and ruining my credit that I have been working so very hard on improving. YOU SUCK

Clean, professional and always up to date on the latest equipment and new fitness methods. Everyone there is knowledgeable, helpful and ready to motivate you to work out and reach your potential. Whether you are a professional athlete or a just starting this is the place to get fit and strong. it is also a locally owned and operated gym - if something is wrong you can find out how to fix it through the excellent management staff or the owners who are, more often than not, either in the office or teaching a class. They practice what they preach and know their fitness from top to bottom.

Pros: Qualtiy training and equipment, Possitive, Professional atmosphere - VERY CLEAN!

Cons: parking - but that is about to change for the better

While this is a nice gym, the cancellation process is a nightmare.

If you are considering moving within your contract period, be prepared to have to document your move BEFORE you move, as there is a 30 day written notice policy and you must have proof of your new address (which in my case/view is difficult to generate so far out.)

I love Pure Austin! The staff and the facility are first class. They have a variety of classes to choose from and the instructors are true professionals. If you are looking for a health club that you will WANT to come to each day, this is the one!

The facility at Pure Austin is top-notch. There is never a wait to use a machine, all the machines are up to date and working, and the staff is friendly helpful and non-intimidating. I have enjoyed my membership and gotten several friends to join. I will never go anywhere else - unless I move out of the city of course...

I think Pure Austin is wonderful. I love the quality and variety of classes. I've never been to a gym like Pure Austin. Within 2 weeks of working out at the BAC, my chronic back pain began dissipating.

Everyone here is so friendly and the atmosphere is so positive. After years of hating working out and being sure it would always be something I hated, I had almost given up on enjoying a health club. Pure Austin changed my mind and recently I found myself smiling on the leg press, endorphins at work! I couldn't be happier with the experience I'm having here.

In six short months I am over half way to my goal! The staff always has a cheerful greeting and constantly enquires if it is going well and if everything is on track. They have been my greatest cheerleaders and their support has made my long journey easier and more enjoyable.
