I went to Daphne for a massage and it was great! A little on the pricey side. Its $140 for a 2hr massage. I was really tense so she even worked her magic for an extra hour b/c she didn't have a client after me and she didn't even charge me

Her sessions were recommended by a friend of mine who saw me as too run down from travel and client meals. I was skeptical at first but went ahead and gave it a try. Daphne??s studio is clean and quiet. The technique is different than a typical massage and surprisingly effective. Clearly, the drainage works as you will need to use the bathroom. The benefits to me are higher energy levels, good general health since starting and feeling a bit skinnier!

Additionally, Daphne will often work on my alignment and muscles as well helping undo the impact of exercise on my body.

I must admit, I've only gone to Daphne once (today), but I can't imagine ever going to anyone else.

Firstly, Daphne's salon is in the front half of her apartment. It felt strange knocking on an apartment door, but the salon section of her house is so professional and beautiful--much larger and nicer than other waxing salons I've been to.

Secondly, Daphne is very sweet and down to earth. She is French and has a lovely accent. She makes a lot of her own products (she went to school for biochemistry), and swears by the Tahitian line of products she carries as well.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, I just got the best bikini wax from her! The french wax she uses makes the process MUCH less painful. I was shocked by how little it hurt (and I hadn't been in quite a while!) She is meticulous and quite a perfectionist, so you won't leave with even one stray hair. My skin has NO pain or redness. This really is a miracle wax! I'm shocked more people don't use it. Also, at other salons, they apply the wax, press on the paper, wait for it...then RIP! Here, Daphne applies the wax to several sections at one time. By the time she's finished applying the 4th row, she goes back to the beginning and rips them all off one after another (there is no paper involved--she rips the wax itself off). This technique gives you a lot of down time from the pain so you're not always clenched and upset.

Pros: Daphne, the wax, the ambience.

I found Daphne in Vogue many moons ago and have been an ardent fan ever since. I first used her renown eyebrow-shaping services--the French wax she uses adheres to the hair, not the skin and thus, is a million times better for delicate areas especially (Am I a wax guru? Nope, work entails lots of traveling for me, and I've tried to hunt down spas in other parts of the country who use the same wax). And I've recently fallen in love with her monoi treatments for the skin and the hair. I have locs, which are often very, very dry. Daphne's monoi oil is the only oil I've ever used for my hair that doesn't cause my face to break out. Plus, it leaves my hair ridiculously soft and conditioned--so much that even my hair dresser noticed. I sent my mother, who has sarcoidosis and diabetes, to Daphne's for a monoi treatment and a lymphatic massage, and she reports much less pain in her legs and feet. AND I'm throwing my best friend's bachelorette party at Belle Fee. So do I reccomend Daphne's services? Just a little :-)

Pros: Though she's by appointment only, she's very accomodating for busy schedules.

I have been going to Daphne for 7 years now, and followed her from her old location on Varick Street because you simply will not find a better aesthetician with better products in New York. She has a special wax for sensitive skin that comes in from France that is so much less harsh than what they use at other hyped spas. Her monoi products are amazing for keeping the skin and hair moisturized, without clogging pores and also has really nice calming effects for skin that is irritated or broken out. Go to Daphne and see for yourself! You will not be disappointed.
