Valet Experience

by Margarita F. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,557

They say call ahead 30 minutes for car. Try one hour and 30 minutes followed by a discussion from the manager that he can't possible know where everyone's car is at all times?

Great experience NOT. he was sarcastic and passive aggressive. The location IS great if you don't care about rude hotel employees fine.

Great location and amenities!

by Rajeev M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 534

The Park Plaza Hotel is right in the heart of Boston. The hotel provides easy access to all the plaza shops and restaurants and everything in Downtown Boston is just a short walk away. The lobby of the plaza is immaculate and everything you need is easy access in this hotel.

location

by Christina G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,445

The Park Plaza is in a great location and is walking distance to everything. The lobby is breathtaking. It was fun to just sit and people watch. Unfortunately, the rooms are very small and not impressive at all.

Great location, good rooms, nice conference area

by scottieb3

I had read the rooms were cramped, but when I arrived that was not the case. It was apparent that the hotel had simply knocked out every other wall, turning one-bed mini-rooms into two-bed large rooms. Consequently, we also had two full bathrooms, which made getting ready in the morning easy. The beds were soft and comfortable, with the right number of pillows. The room felt spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated. Just a block off the Public Gardens and the Boston Commons, I enjoyed the area for it's cafes, T proximity, and ample running paths on the nearby esplanade.

There were only a couple minor complaints: a noisy heating/cooling system that would kick on periodically and no wireless internet. At the price for the hotel, I shouldn't have to pay $10/day to hook up to your cable: free, secure wireless internet is provided at Days Inns and Red Roof Inns, sure the Park Plaza could figure it out.

Pros: Location, Room size, beds

Cons: Internet

Perfect location. Easy walk to Freedom Trail; Charles River (and fireworks for 4th of July visitors); harbor; theatre district; little Italy and Chinatown. We are 60ish and he has a hip replacement; so if we say it is a stroll, it is. Take your time. Eat along the way. Don't miss King's Chapel during the 4th celebration.

Hotel is elegant. Rooms a bit small but doable. If you are a tea drinker, you will have to ask for more. Same for shampoo. Other than that...room adequate and views great. Best mattress I can remember anywhere. Bath old but clean and it works. If you are about gracious old places in spectacular locations....this is it. It is also in the Historic Hotels Registry. Eat in the North End. Italian. Mangia!!

Avoid

by sansserif

It was terrible. The room was really old and tired - and not clean. When I left - stayed one night - I had bites on my back. Bedbugs?? It was a nice hotel once that has been left to decay.......

Over-priced, dirty, and depressing

by pandora76p

I just came back from 2 nights at this over-priced mortuary. The doors looked like they had coffin lids on them, and the rooms were small enough to complete the feel. The floor tiles and carpets were in poor shape and dirt, the shower leaked from someplace causing the wood in the bathroom to decay, and the maids didn't change the bed skirt that seemed to have red body fluid spattered on it. Speaking of the maids, if you like to sleep in and be in your room past 8 am put out the do not disturb or they will be knocking. The internet is a rip off - $11 for under 24 hours of very slow service that you had to go through several songs and dances to get it to work - tech support in Bangalore no less. The hotel was noisy - you could here toilets, TVs, phones, and people in the rooms on all sides (even up and down) and out in the halls. The conference room I was given for my presentation lost power to one side and when I panicked the hotel staff replied "it is an old building so the power supply isn't very reliable." Neither is their TV - I get better reception on the ariel antena at home, and all of the special functions - like the keyboard and the express check out don't seem to work. For $500 for 2 nights I should not be able to hear people on the street from the 11th floor, see tape-as-weatherstripping, or have a room that reaches 90F at night. And all of the information they give you about parking is just a bit off, and don't even begin to believe directions you get. From food to service, not a good value at all! The only saving grace was the irish pub O'Conner's nice selection of things people would really eat, dinner for around $12 per person and prompt/friendly service. Finale the desert bar was good if you go by taste but $30 for 9 spoon size dessert samples? Not that good. Stick to something with a little less "history" until this place actually does the renovations they keep claiming to have done. FYI: a little paint and some new towels don't count!

Pros: good resturants nearby, can walk to historic sites without much trouble

Cons: dirty, loud, expensive, hard to drive to, confusing parking arragenmet for unloading and parking

Not worth it...

by kaydeej21

I stayed at the Park Plaza when attending a formal dance held there and let me say its not worth it. While the hotel is beautiful when you walk in, the rooms are just average for the price. Parking at the hotel was very expensive and the service was horrible. It took us 30 mins to get our car and they couldn't find the car of one of the others in the party!! Overall for the price, the Park Plaza is NOT worth it, there are so many other better places to stay in Boston that you actually get what you pay for.

Pros: Nice lobby

Cons: Price, parking

Do not stay at this hotel!

by spicycricket

My recent stay at this hotel was absolutely horrible. I arrived exhuasted after a 6 hour flight. Had reserved two rooms there, 4 months in advance. Ended up sleeping on a sofa bed because they over booked. Front desk clerk had a cultural bias against Americans and was incredibly rude to me when I was on the cell phone telling my friend telling him I couldn't check in yet because the "woman at the front desk said..." and she started yelling as she heard me say this screaming at me that she is not a "woman but a lady." Good grief! It was nuts!!! Requested room type not reserved. Horrible service, rude staff at resturants, stores and just all over the hotel. I have never experienced such inconsiderate ride nehavoir for people working in a service capacity. I will never ever stay at this hotel again!

Pros: None

Cons: Rude Staff, Tiny rooms with lacking amenities

Will Never Stay Here Again

by cr80

Recently stayed at this hotel. Had to be moved to three different rooms due to rooms not being cleaned prior to check in. Ended up in rooms with no bed, only sofa's and roll aways. Requested room type not reserved. Horrible service, Valet service took over 30 minutes to retrive car, waited almost ten minutes for elevators! Save your time and money!

Location, Location, Location

by mlestokes

An older hotel definitely. The rooms are small & the bathrooms are a bit cramped but it is comfortable enough for the vacation traveler. We had some problems with the Heat/AC but it was immediately addressed. Service was quick, friendly and helpful. The location is absolutely perfect. Close to all the major sites and the subway stop is right across the street. Lots of restaurants & shopping close by. We got a really great rate through a major discount website...would have been disappointed if we'd paid $125+/night for our room.

Pros: Location, Service

Cons: Room Size
