If the velvet Elvis and painting of a half naked hula girl makes you smile then you will love this campy, fun tribute to Polynesian style kitsch combined with stiff drinks and a cool 30 something crowd. This is one of the first restaurants that I ever went to with a group in Seattle, 10 years ago. I will always remember that night as my first one as a stranger in town where I had amazing fun and bonding with my newfound friends. Mai Tais to share with long, fun straws served out of coconuts. Campy fun. Yummy pu pu platters to share.

I have to say that the Bora-Bora room is Bora-boring, so stay in the main seating or bar areas for better ambiance and people watching.

Now-a-days, I come here for the nostalgia and the super amazing spinach salad with duck confit and goat cheese wheel. Yummy personified. Coupled with a blue hawaiin martini or a shared mai tai, your night is fun, delicious and, like a hint of vacation at home.

We were there celebrating a friend of a friends birthday. They rented the big room in the back. I was the "DD" and ordered some drinks for the birthday boy. When I was getting my bill, they added an additional drink on my tab. I asked about it and they said they did not make a mistake... as they were doing shots with another customer. I was not drinking and sober. Screw them. In addition to that, I received another payment on my card two weeks after the fact. That's when I decided to post this review. I have the receipt, too! Since they added an extra drink, I left a cash tip of just a couple of bucks. Apparently they think its their right to get a tip. I'm angry and already notified the b e t t e r b u s i n e s s b u r e a u. I'm NEVER going there again. I guess that's what you get for being the DD. @#$%@%@ %@$holes!!!

luau reminds me of back when i lived on the islands. the kalua pork sandwich is what we'd call "ono" and shaggys spicy wings are the perfect match with the kaha mai tai.

This was the opening act. Reserved the Bora Bora Room for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner; ordered the Ahi sesame sticks, tropical chicken, fried rice, shrimp salad, beef ribs and topped it off with the Mai Tai splash and Coronitas. What a phenomenal spread of food...tasty, plentiful, well presented. So glad we had some leftovers. Jessica, we will definitely be back in touch. Can't wait to introduce this fine restaurant to others. DRios.

This place is a good hangout that makes you get a little vacation vibe. It has tiki torches, thatched umbrellas around. The drinks and food have always been satisfying. I love the pupu platter and the fruity drinks.

Luau has an outdoor patio for summer, and a cozy, polynesian-themed indoor (complete with private room for parties) in the winter. Their food is tasty, in the $10-15 range. They have interesting cocktails (very fruity) and serve buckets of beer (botled) which are fun with big groups. Their portobello sandwich is great. They've also got good specials on weekdays.

The restaurant was really cute, the prices were ok (a little higher than expected) and the service was good, but the place was so quiet! We went on a Wednesday night and we were the only people there most of the time. One more group of people showed up eventually, but it's always a little scary when you are the only ones there. The food was ok, a little cold actually by the time we got it which is funny considering we were the ONLY ones there at that point! I'd go again in a big group to make the place a little more lively.

Hurray for the Luau!
I had not been to the Luau in years and I am happy to report that it is better then ever! The original owners are back and while it?s still a rowdy bar it?s a great place to bring the whole family. Kids are welcome and my 3 boy and they had a great time. The staff is friendly and the food is great and easy on my wallet. I can?t wait to go back!

Happy hour here last something like 5 hours and is good for tropical-esque drinks and cheap pupus (fried food). I come here in the late afternoon with friends when we feel like getting sort of sloshed, especially on weekends, or when the grey Seattle days are getting me down. It's nothing spectacular, and pretty much exactly what you expect, so go with that in mind and you won't be disappointed.

I have got to give a "HUGE" thank you Mr. Price for bring Tino Casanova back! This is to all the people of Seattle and all of the beverage connoisseurs like myself, Tino is the man, however you will be confused by the frenzy of all of the ladies lined up at the bar now if you can wade through the heartthrobs, Tino will treat you like family. Please call to find out his schedule for I can never figure out when he works. I think he was trained by Mer the blur. Trust me he got it!

We booked the Bora Bora room for a birthday party. The room is very festive, and the punchbowls of cocktails kept the party going stong. The disappointing part was the lack of service. The waiter who was responsible for our party spent most of the evening at the bar. I kept having to go out to find him to ask him for anything. If you decide to book the room, insist upon a server who will take care of the party.

Every time me and my roomies have been to the Luau, we have had such a great experience. Seriously, the food is excellent and if you have a fancy for Pina Colada's (like myself), you definitely need to try theirs! Aside from the yummy dishes, the people that work there are stellar. I have had such great experiences in relating to the owner and staff. They are a super friendly and giving group of people that make the overall experience really enjoyable and worth heading back for. Definitely check this one out! (By the way, their "happy hour" is from 12-6!!!)

The Luau is a great place to unwind after a long work week. The tiki motif and easy going atmosphere makes anyone feel welcome. The staff are friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel at home, and the food is great. Even when I go there not planning to eat, I always end up ordering the Rock Shrimp dumplings because they are that good. Otherwise it's all about the Kaha Mai Tai. It has to be the perfect drink to start off a fun night. Hope to see you there!

I've been to the Luau several times, and I've always had a great experience there. They have an awesome drink menu that has a little something for everyone. The Mai Tai is the house special, but there's plenty more on the menu to try...
Be sure to bring your appetite too. My favorite Pupu is the Ahi Poki, but the Shrimp Potstickers, Beef Ribs and Spicy Wings are up there at the top of the list (I've had them all). The rest of the dinner menu is top notch as well. There's a wide variety of main dishes to satisfy almost anyone's craving.
Recently, the Luau has started a lunch menu as well, which features an awesome burger, a tasty B.L.T.A. (the A is for avacado), and a VERY filling item called a "Loco Moco", which I hear is an island culinary staple.
I've also made the Luau a regular stop on Sundays whenever the Seahawks are playing. They have a huge 50 inch HD tv to watch the game on, with game-time food and drink specials to boot.
Obviously I love this place, but for good reasons; quality food and drinks, not to mention the super staff. They make me feel at home every time I walk in the door. If you're in the neighborhood, or looking for an dinner/drink destination off the beaten path, give The Luau a shot. You won't be disappointed.

luau still sux. i will never go there again. bad service.....it is the worst experience i have ever had in my life. waiter yelling at me is unacceptable!!! i used to work in food service and this waiter was out of line. luau? polynesian? it is so funny cause i am from hawaii, and this is not the aloha spirit. how can you disrepect local hawaiians and respectably call yourself luau? DONT GO HERE. food was overrated, and the service was unbelievably bad.

We were real excited to try this place but between my wife son and I all struck out in our choices. After I ordered my entree - a half jerk chicken which was described in great detail- I was told that it didn't come with any sides I made the most of it and got bland yam chips and a piece of supermarket deli counter chicken that hadn't been marinated but merely had some jerk sauce thrown on the skin. When we left my son who had admired their fish tank was asked what he liked about the restaurant and he bluntly said "not my noodles" Definitely not reccomended

I was just revisited the Luau Lounge last night. The original owners have bought back the place. Woo hoo! The last owner ran it into the ground, and am glad they are getting the palce back up on it's feet. I love the Shrimp pot stickers and the wilted spinach salad with goat cheese and macadamian nuts were incredible. My friend ordered the corn bread, and it was delicious - sweet and spicy. They also have Happy Luau from Noon - 6pm seven days a week! How great is that?

...but I'd definitely get drinks. Food is not impressive and expensive, but the drinks...weeeee!! (I mean, they're expensive too, but...) I love the tiki-bowl punch concoction that you share (the house maintains a limit of 2 per table--so you know it's good:) Kind of smokey later on, sometimes the crowd is kind of obnoxious, not the best service, but go with friends. You'll have fun if you know what to expect: this is not fine dining, people.

My girlfriend and I ate at Luau a few months ago and found it to be an all around excellent experience. We went again last night. What happened? While the staff was friendly and expedient, the atmosphere great and the drinks tasty, the food was no better than fast food or worse. The steak was tough and impossible to chew and I found pieces of shell in the scallops, which tasted an awful lot like cod. For the price of these entrees, I expect more care in preparation. I hope last night was a bad night but I won't be going back to find out. Boo on Luau.

Although a friend of mine had recommended Luau, I had a difficult time dragging my husband there. He assumed by the name that it was your typical teriyaki-dime-a-dozen restaurants. Don't be fooled. Very interesting and innovative menu. I loved the Kon Tiki fried chicken and the potstickers. Cute, funky restaurant and very friendly service.

I have to say the ribs carried the trophy for myself. Drinks are exciting and flashy along with the theme of the Tikki Gods. It was a work party, but will be returning for more of a ambient journey with my girlfriend. Adjustments can be made for those "non-carnivoire" desires. This is definately worth the experience for friends and romance!

the coolest people hang at the Luau. Great drinks, fantastic food (ALWAYS go for the special of the day... WOW). Kitschy, big fun. go with a date, or to meet one -- this is the best kept secret in Seattle. One word of caution -- be really careful if you bring a group here -- a miscommunication about a group meal we had planned here really left a sour taste in my mouth!

Just wanted to add a note, if you are just going to Luau for drinks and snacks and you have a group with you don't show up in the early evening. Often time the waitstaff won't let you sit down until 8pm. If the bar is full and you have a group this is a problem.

I have been to the Luau several times. Each time is a great time with family and friends. PuPu Platters are always festive, as are the cocktails! Also, they recently (within the past 6 months) added another room for seatting. Hoorah!

Make reservations to avoid waiting. Also, if you are a light to moderate drinker, the MaiTai to a strong one to swallow... so beware before you order it.

One of the best aspects of the Luau is that you can go for a nice night with good food, or show up in shorts and a t-shirt. You're comfortable either way. The food is fantastic, the service is great, and they have especially skilled bartenders. Can be a little loud.
